When He Falls Asleep While Waiting for You - Namjoon

“You guys, seriously, I’ve got to go!” you say with a smile, playfully shoving your friend’s arm out of the way. “I’m already super late.” You glance down at your watch and feel an immediate shot of guilt—almost 97 minutes late. 

    “Oh, let her go,” one of your coworkers says drunkenly. “She’s got to run home to that boyfriend of hers!”      The guilt intensifies, but so does the smile on your face. “That’s exactly right. Make good choices, everyone.” With a final wave, you escape the restaurant at last, stepping out into the cold night air and shivering a little. You check the time once again, then, groaning internally, reach for your phone, certain that you’ll have a barrage of worried or upset text messages from Namjoon. You’re surprised when you don’t find any. You were supposed to meet him at the studio 100 minutes ago—had he decided to go home early? Hesitating just a moment longer, you dial his number, hoping he wasn’t too unhappy with your tardiness.      It rings and rings and rings, and when you get sent to voicemail, the first bit of worry streaks across your mind. You open your messages: I’m SO sorry! are you still at work?     You don’t wait for a response, heading instead in the direction of the company building, which isn’t too far from the restaurant where your coworker had insisted on celebrating his birthday. You really hadn’t intended to stay that long, knowing he was waiting for you and that the two of you would get to spend a precious “night off” together, but it had taken a while for your coworkers to assemble and you hadn’t been able to make your escape until much later than planned. You walk a little quicker.      The building is relatively quiet for this time at night, and you reach his studio quickly. Pushing open the door, the first thing you see is him, passed out in his cushy work chair. Exhaling softly, you shut the door behind you and move towards him, a smile crossing your lips as you hear him snoring softly: he must be really tired. You sneak a peek at his computer monitor—and feel your heart grow 11 sizes when you realize he had been looking at a file of pictures of the two of you together.      “Joonie,” you whisper, climbing carefully onto his lap, “I’m here.” You stroke his face softly, too much in love with this man to put into words. You smile as his eyelids flutter open at your careful touch. “Hi, baby.”    There’s a moment of confusion, followed by utter joy as he recognizes you, and he immediately wraps his arm around you, pulling you against him. “My love,” he says sleepily. “Yes, you’re here.” He can’t stop himself from pressing a tired barrage of kisses to your collarbone, ignoring your soft laugh.      “All right.” You pull back after a moment, brushing his hair back from his forehead fondly. “We need to get home. Are you ready?”     He nods, but his eyes are still half-closed. “Mmm,” he agrees, his arms still around you.      You grin and lean in to kiss his cheek. “Let’s go.” You wriggle out of his hold, and watch as he slowly shuts down his computer.      When he gets to his feet, he spends a full minute looking for his favorite black beanie before realizing it’s sitting on the desk right next to his hand.      “You okay?”     “Mmm,” he says, but now he’s looking for his jacket and you realize it’s going to take him an eternity to notice that it’s hanging on the back of the chair.      You reach out and put a hand on the side of his face. “It’s okay, I’ve got it.” Before grabbing his jacket, you finish shutting down the computer, feeling your heart swell again as you carefully close down the file of pictures. He lets you guide his arms into the jacket, watching you with exhausted eyes as you zip it all the way up to his chin. “I’m sorry I’m late, babe,” you say contritely, reaching up to kiss him softly. “The party started way later than I thought it would.”     He locks his arms around your waist, holding you tight even through his zombie-like movements. “I figured it was something like that,” he says, resting his forehead heavily against yours. “Don’t worry, love, I’m just glad you’re here now.” He kisses your lips once, softly, then sighs happily and lets his eyes close all the way as he kisses you again, this time more intensely.      You kiss him back, but break away when you feel his body start to relax too much. “Namjoon-ah,” you say quietly, waiting until his opens his eyes again. “Let’s get you home, okay? You’re about to fall asleep on your feet.”      He gives you a lazy grin. “No way. I’m pretty comfortable here,” he leans in and pecks your lips, “just like—” He kisses you again, “—this.”     “It’ll be more comfortable at home,” you promise, smiling up at him. When he relents, you reach out and adjust his face mask for him, then slip your hand into his. “Come on, baby. I won’t make you wait that much longer.”

[11:21pm] “i love you.” namjoon croaked out, slowly caressing your head that was against his chest. “i love you so much.” he continued to whisper as tears slowly drift down his cheeks. “please stay with me.” you nodded and wrapped your arms around him tightly. “always.” you whispered back as you closed your eyes and hoped this wasnt a dream.

he slips his hands under the hem of your shirt, stroking your back with a soft touch

you inhale sharply at how cold his hands are, laughing a little at your reaction

“Sorry,” he murmurs, barely pausing in his work as he lightly kisses the skin just below your jaw. “I’m so glad you’re here, babe”

when he finally sits back, he keeps running his hand lightly along your back, but looks a million times lighter and happier

you smile at him and lean in to kiss both of his eyebrows, making him laugh

when you move to kiss his lips again, he makes a low sound of happiness and presses you closer
