ngl sometimes i think i portray kev as too whiny/depressed or anxious but then i remember he’s literally a twenty yr old kid who suddenly was hit with 1. the fact he destroyed his whole college full of people 2. that he now wielded a cosmic power 3. that he now had to protect an entire planet with that cosmic power 4. was THEN told by several entities that he’s basically a cosmic fuckup (some nicer than others) and then i’m like..I’m Probably Doing Fine

kevin suffers from anxiety and depression disorders, and it was NOT a result of him becoming starbrand. though both conditions worsened when he first gained his powers, he already had them beforehand and experienced difficulties with social anxiety and chronic depression regarding his daily life and inability to connect with others well.

       “ you don’t need to tell ME that! ” he speeds up just then, taking a glance back at their pursuers. “ what do you think? first one to the outskirts of the city wins? ”

     HE WONDERS IF PETER WILL EVER KNOW HOW MUCH THOSE FOUR WORDS MEAN TO HIM. not just in the moment, but through it all. to have people, even just a few, BELIEVE in him, means the world, if not the galaxies. and he doesn’t know how to convey that, but he’s starting to realize he’s not alone among the stars. so he SMILES, teetering on the edge of the open shuttle door. there’s chaos waiting below them but he’s got that spark of confidence to him when he says “ thanks, starlord. ” and steps out the boundaries of the ship.

     “ i’ll be back. i’ll take care of everything on my end, i promise. ”
