charles: yes, if we have a mercedes engine. with the ferrari engine, it's going to be a bit more complicated. straights aren't really our thing, but well, we'll maximize what we've got.

Q: No one would want Max as a teammate. Would you like to have someone like Max alongside you, or is he too big as a presence to have alongside you?

Charles: He’s an exceptional driver—a four-time World Champion. But I’ve always considered myself very lucky because I’ve had the chance to race alongside teammates that were always very good: Lewis, Seb, Carlos. So no, it doesn’t scare me. And if one day it would happen, it would also be a nice story. We started together back in 2010, we raced through every karting category together… so why not?

Q: He’d have to come to Ferrari, though—you’ve got a long-term contract with them.

Charles: Exactly. But for now, let’s enjoy Lewis.

Q: Has your relationship changed over the years? People have seen all the old videos on social media—you were rivals even as kids. He has no frieds, i don't think friends exist on track.

Charles: Definitely not. Once the visor comes down, there's no friendship. But yes, our relationship has changed. We’ve grown up, we’re much more mature now. Life has changed a lot since we first started racing. When you’re a kid, you experience everything at full. What happens on track, I was convinced he was a bad person, and I’m sure he felt exactly the same about me.

As you grow up, though, you realize that people, beyond what happens on track, are very different. So yes, our relationship has changed.

Charles: Anyone, really. But honestly, I enjoy racing Max because I know he never gives up—and neither will I. Then we’ll see what happens. That’s the beauty of racing. That’s what I love about it. It’s what gets me buzzing once I get out of the car, because there’s no room for emotions while you’re driving. Although sometimes, after doing something truly special, you can still feel the shivers running through you. So yes, I like racing Max because I know neither of us let it go.
