The hadīth describes how any illness or anxiety that besets a Muslim results in purification of his soul and forgiveness for his shortcomings. Therefore, if a person is tested in this way he should be patient and expect reward from Allāh as expiation from his sins. In this context though, trouble is not sought after as the Prophet ﷺ always asked for well-being and good heath and often prayed seeking refuge from serious illness.
It is a sign of the mercy of Allāh that one sometimes has minor illnesses to make one remember Allāh’s bounty of good health and strength.
