Combeferre knelt before his prince, his lover, “The king is sending us to battle in the morning,” he finally built up the nerve to tell him, “The entire kings guard marches out at dawn.”
Courfeyrac froze at his words, looking at Combeferre with wide eyes as he shook his head. “No. No, no, you can’t.” He whispered hesitantly. “You can’t go, you can’t leave me.”
Courfeyrac wrapped a towel around him carefully. “I can ask for food to be brought up if you wanted to have dinner in bed?”
Ferre was about to protest but considered it and then nodded, “Probably for the best my love…”
Courfeyrac led him to his bedroom and got the clean clothes a servant had laid out for him, handing them over.
Ferre followed him and put the clothes on, finally feeling like he could relax just slightly.
While he was getting dressed Courfeyrac went to the door and called over a servant, asking for their dinner to be brought up to them. Once he was dressed he went over and hugged him tightly.
Ferre hugged back, closing his eyes tightly.
He held him close and stroked his hair gently. “You’re here my love, you’re home, and you’re safe.” He whispered.
Ferre finally let his shoulders fall and his body relax.
Courfeyrac led him to the bed and helped him lay down. “Go on, just relax.” He said softly, pulling a blanket over him.
