Court is extremely smart. He’s pre-med, after all, and fully intends to go into a branch of medicine where he can focus on helping people who - like he had - struggle with their gender identity. He’s intelligent, motivated, and has lofty goals - a lot of people just don’t see it at first. He’s got the blue eyes, the pretty face, the easy laugh, and gentle voice, and people see the whole package, and the way he goofs around, and assume he’s not the brightest. It’s fair, honestly - he does have his ditzy moments. And he definitely does lack a little common sense and can come off like an idiot at first, just because he’s so not worried about coming off smart, or proving anything to anyone, and just wants to enjoy himself. But once people start to get to know him a little more, they realize there’s a lot more under the surface. Even if the surface is that pretty.

Two years ago, when Court showed up as a freshman, his newly developed looks and the confidence that went along with them found him blending right into the popular clique. While he was aware that these were the very people who would’ve ignored him in high school, he couldn’t help but go along with it with the slightest sense of awe. Maybe because he is friendly with both Kit and Jesse, he never had anything but positive interactions with Greer, the two blondes actually getting along extremely well. They often goofed off together, Court definitely someone that could bring out her more easy going side, though that could be said for most people he interacted with.

No,” he answered, the words honest, if a bit blunt. “But she also wasn’t the horrible person some people like to paint her as. I don’t know. I only ever had good interactions with her. And even if I hadn’t, it’s not like I’d never want her to disappear. Or anyone.”

court was definitely more shy/reserved/closed off in his younger years - before going through puberty, he was skinny and felt so outta place in who he was, so he held himself back a lot and was very much one of the shy nerdy kids

there was definitely some bullying as well through middle school/early high school, which definitely didn’t help him feeling comfortable in his own skin

his personality started to come out a lot more once he began to feel more confident, and people realized he was a complete goofball, albeit one who is very pretty

he had a glow up around senior year of high school, and was suddenly much more welcomed into the popular cliques

not being one to hold grudges, ash became friends with a lot of the kids who were previously mean to him

when he came to ogden, he was instantly accepted in as a jock, and fit in with the quote-unquote cool kids. it was a shock for him, and he tries to hide his still very loud nerdy side so they don't realize he doesn't belong and kick him out

Court was pacing back and forth on the sidewalk, mumbling quietly to himself. He probably looked crazy to any passerby's - and it was something that he undoubtably would've been alarmingly aware of any other time. Perhaps once his mind cleared, he'd recollect all the looks people were giving him as they did walk by with complete and utter horror, but for now...he was distracted enough. Eventually, though, Court started walking off towards the entrance of the parking lot, hands in his pockets, shoulders too tense to look like he was casually strolling, when a pair of headlights swept over him. He froze for moment, a small silhouette in the drivers seat sparking enough recognition that he stepped off the sidewalk directly into the path of Lola's car as he raised a hand up. In greeting, though perhaps it should've been more of a signal to stop.

Milo scanned over Courtney's note, then his eyes flicked up towards him when he suggested it was Ollie. "Well…" Was all he could really say for a moment, because this seemed like an unfair note. Even more unfair than his own. "Yes," he said, "that is all illegal. But if you send in Ollie's name for any of that stuff, you might has well send in Monty's. Or Anya's. Or maybe even Link's." Although Milo didn't know if Link was actually doing anything illegal, he'd be surprised if they weren't. "I don't know if those count, because… they're not really secrets, right? Ollie's not hiding any that, not really anyway. But if you do send him in, it's not like G can say you're wrong. So, if that's what you want to do, go for it." It seemed unfairly simple, and complicated.

"Yeah, but..." Court's voice trailed off, as they just shrugged up a shoulder. He liked Monty and Anya and Link. And he didn't think they had anything to do this. That was the difference. "Yeah," he finished lamely, instead of actually saying that out loud to Milo. He frowned, letting out a sigh. "You're right. But I don't know who else it would be." Besides the three people he mentioned. And sometimes what seemed like probably most of the people in their social circle, to be honest. "I just...think Ollie makes the most sense. Am I wrong?" he asked Milo, a wrinkle appearing between his eyebrows as a hint of worry appeared on his face.

parker offered a small grin, but there was an undeniable sadness in the curve of it. court's answer possessed every hallmark of one cloaked in cordial kindness. the laughter, the generalness, the you understand sentiment. not that there wasn't a chance of there being truth in it. parker was sure he had been very busy, but couldn't help her overly-analytical nature. had she gone wrong not pressing the issue earlier? would he had confided in her if it were a bigger deal?

"right, i heard jesse was going especially hard on you guys lately. got himself an elbow to the face because of it. lingering bruise." parker motioned at her own face and hissed in a breath, half-concealing a sympathetic chuckle. "maybe when you become captain you can take a less dangerous approach." that was, assuming he wanted to be captain. she thought, if that were the case, he could easily achieve it—he was as dedicated and respectable as they came. all the makings of a good leader. team sports voted on that sort of thing, right?

Court made a small noise, neither a confirmation or not, his brows wrinkling at Parker's statement. Jesse had been going hard on them. Coco could hardly walk some mornings because of it. But he didn't remember Jesse getting an elbow to the face, nor anything that would cause a bruise on his face at all. He clearly had been distracted in practices - he'd have to work on that. "Maybe, but..." he let out a low laugh, shaking his head. "I doubt I'll be captain next year. There are much more qualified guys on the team," he said, a bright smile on his face. His performance was definitely not setting him up for that, at least. "Plus, it's not like I could live up to Jesse if I was. He's been doing a great job."

Jesse set his taco back down, reaching for more tomatillo sauce to drown it in. He nodded a little absently as Coco went on, eyes only flicking up once he mentioned Jesse being captain as he rolled his taco back up and took another bite. Perfect.

He snorted around a mouthful of his food as a few of Coco's toppings went flying, the question turned back around on him. He shrugged as he chewed, setting the taco back down and swallowing. "I'm feeling the pressure, for sure," he admitted honestly. Even if their coach hadn't explicitly said it, Jesse knew he was on a short leash this year after the article and his own antics the year prior, so he really wanted— needed— to pull the stops out for this final season.

"It's kinda what I wanted to talk to you about," he hedged. "I was wondering if you wanted to run some new plays I'm thinking about trying, just me and you? I think we could stand to tighten up defense a little more on the [bad knee, right or left? idk] side."

"Don't," Court said, the word very earnest, a hint of panic in it as he looked at Jesse with wide eyes, not wanting him to feel that way. He shouldn't feel pressure - he was a great captain! The best! The whole team loved him! The coach definitely didn't, but Court was absolutely oblivious to that. Along with a lot of other things.

He started bobbing his head, nodding along before Jesse had even clarified what he wanted to talk about, about to agree before he even knew what it was. Until he did know what it was. Did Court particularly want to help with new plays? Well, yeah, of course. But did he think he could? He wasn't entirely sure (he was sure, he definitely couldn't). "Oh," he said, taking another bite of the taco, simply to buy himself time. He couldn't say no. He couldn't let Jesse know that his injury from two years ago still was bothering him. "Sure. Yeah. Of course! What types of plays?" he asked, a bright smile on his face, as if he was excited about it.

"I wish I'd stayed behind, if I'm honest." It wasn't like the Hamptons came with any particular sense of novelty. It wasn't like it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In hindsight, it was hard to reconcile the decision to go. Had theirs been indicative of the typical college experience, perhaps there was some sense of validity to the argument about making memories, or friends. But Ogden had been anything but. And showing up places you were invited to, more often than not, came with some sort of fine-line caveat.

"Or maybe you are G," she says, though it is plainly evident that it is not an opinion she holds much stock in. Coco was not cruel enough. Heni was not sure of most things, but that she could draw a line under. If there was anyone on this campus who was, at their core, good, it was him. "Do you want to come get some food, or something? I haven't seen you in forever."

Sarcasm wasn't exactly Coco's strong suit, as earnest as he was, so at Heni's words, his eyes widened, starting to stammer, denials nearly tripping over themselves on their way off his tongue as a flush came to his cheeks. Her next words made it clear that she didn't mean it though, the flush only deepening as he realized it, though Court just bobbed his head, offering his roommate a shaky smile. "Yeah. Let's go get food!" he said, trying to do his best to sound like his normal, chipper self.

There was a taco place Jesse wanted to try so he offered to drive, the conversation easy with Coco the way it usually was. The way Jesse could always count on. As he took a seat across from him, six street tacos spread out like his own personal buffet before him, he plucked one up and took a bite before he turned his attention back to Court. This was more than just a personal, friendly visit and Jesse wanted to navigate it delicately. "How you feeling about this season?" he asked around his mouthful of food.

Absentmindedly, Court flexed his knee under the table, extending out his lower leg and retracting it back underneath him before he answered Jesse, the motion an instinctual reaction to the question. "Feeling great," he chirped after a moment, flashing Jesse a bright smile. He wouldn't dare saying anything else, no matter his true feelings - he couldn't risk being benched or anything like that. He quickly turned towards his own half dozen tacos, eyes darting back and forth over them before picking one up at random. "Don't worry about me, though - I'm not the captain. Or a senior," he said, brushing away the question with a quick gesture - yes, with the hand with the taco, a few toppings going flying. "How about you?" he asked, before taking a bite from the taco, quickly trying to turn the subject from theirself.

She decided against voicing it, but the line of conversation indicated to Rhia Coco was being a bit of a buzzkill . Every invitation, every playful incitation was deflected. What was going on with them? Usually they weren’t so frigid. They weren’t being rude, in fact Coco was never anything but infinitely generous with their courtesies. “The fresh air’s all around you, silly,” Rhia pointed out obtusely. She gestured all around them, before looking back at Coco with a raised brow. She wasn’t used to this dismissive attitude, and her interest slowly died upon realizing they were unwilling to match her enthusiasm. “What’s up? Who shit in your Cheerio’s this morning or whatever?” she asked briskly.

"Wh-what?" Court asked again, sounding like a broken record at this point, his chin tucking in ever so slightly as their eyes widened at Rhia. "Nothing's up. I was just...getting air," he said, his denial starting off strong but quickly fading off lamely, not quite able to meet Rhiannon's eyes. He knew coming to this party was a bad idea. And he couldn't exactly explain that to Rhia, could he? "I just meant you didn't have to come with me - I don't want to interrupt," Court continued after an awkward breath, gesturing towards the people she had been with. "You were in the middle of something, don't feel like you need to keep me company."

"Dude," Monty began, his smile hanging loose and crooked as his wandering gaze finally settled on Coco again, "d'you really think G waits around for for an invitation to anything?" No, G was definitely the proactive type. His nose scrunched as he thought back on the previous year, mind picking through casual kickbacks and annual parties alike, wondering which G had attended -- which G had personally arranged, even. Maybe they were a beloved sorority member, head of one of the party planning committees. "Remember Greer's birthday last year? The pool party?" he asked Coco, eyebrows raising slightly. "She had Ollie throw it." Monty's pronoun slip between 'they' and 'she' made that infinitely more confusing, head shaking as he clarified, "G did, I mean, not Greer. Could you imagine that?" He snickered softly to himself, not considering that information incriminating in the least.

Court paused, head angling slightly towards a shoulder as he considered it for a moment. He supposed he had assumed G was being invited to these things. "I guess...I did, yeah," he admitted, wrinkling his nose slightly as he glanced over to meet Monty's eyes, a flush rising on his cheeks, a hint of hesitation appearing on his face before he spoke. "You don't think they're someone who's getting invited?" There was no way they had the access, the knowledge, the reach they had if they weren't, was there? At the very least, they had someone on the inside (cough, Ollie, cough). Proven only more by Monty's next point. "Really?" Court asked, his eyebrows furrowing, already fixated on the path of thoughts that Monty had unknowingly sent him down. "Why would G do that? Why Ollie?" The real question Court wanted to ask went unspoken - he couldn't exactly say hey, Monty, do you think your ex-boyfriend is G because every piece of information I hear makes me more positive he is! Or, well...he could, he just didn't think it would go very well, and Court did not do well with arguments.

Nat blew raspberries in his direction, playfully booing his lack of gossip. "Well that's no fun," she complained good-naturedly. It left her in a bit of a predicament, though. Because she did have things to share, she just didn't want to be the only one. There had been Mari, and there had been Eddie, and she was bursting at the seams to talk about both of them. Any of them, really.

She wasn't done prying yet, though.

"Not even a New Year's kiss?" she pouted. "You can't give me anything?"

Coco shrugged, a sheepish tilt coming to one side of his lips. "Maybe a New Year's kiss. But it was just a midnight kiss, nothing to say beyond that," he said, the words coming out quickly. Two people who kissed each other at midnight because it was expected, a party full of people and not wanting to be the two left alone. He didn't want to get into it. "So please. Tell me about what's been going on with you - it will be very welcome."

She watches him, watches the confusion paint itself across his features like a performance art piece, before she finds herself almost forced to blink. Like momentarily shutting her eyes would factory reset the situation. Did people like Sassa? Was that the general consensus?

The knife edge of their intonation snaps Heni's attention back into place like a rubber band. What was there to be drawn from his? Had G ... been in the Hamptons? Heni had always been under the impression that Ogden's premier blackmailer had tended to operate from afar – that they were some almost-omniscient being whose reach knew no bounds. And this, the revelation that those on campus had not been privy to G's little icebreaker parlour game, it shattered that illusion. Had they been in the house? That narrowed the list of suspects significantly.

It takes her another split second to realise that she is lost in her own thoughts, and she has to make a conscious effort to focus back on the conversation. To avoid going through the guest list with a fine tooth comb, leaving Coco in silence. "I think we all did." She offered up a little shrug. To soften the blow, she supposed. "It was - It was weird. We were all given a, I don't know how to describe this, a prompt, I guess, to go and ask someone else at the party about." Heni has half a mind, then, to continue by saying: 'you know, like, Nate fucked Greer's mum, go ask him about it', but she bites her tongue. "Insinuating that people were holding things back about Greer, I guess." A pause. "So you got nothing?"

"Oh." Court spoke volumes within the word, a sinking feeling somehow plummeting their stomach even lower, a perpetual cycle of feeling left out and then guilt that he wanted to be included in the first place. That wasn't it - of course he didn't want to be included in this. But if he had been because he was included in other things, like the party in the first place....well, that could've been nice.

But he hadn't been.

"Yeah, no," he said, shaking his head, leaning against the counter, eyes on the floor between him and Heni instead of meeting her gaze. "I didn't get anything. But maybe, uh, I mean...it's not like I'm holding anything back about Greer," he said, letting out an awkward laugh, realizing that implied Henrietta was only a beat after he spoke. "Not that everyone who got a text would've been but like...I don't know. You know what I mean."

The mention of New Years Eve made Milo wonder if any of these were about Charlie. If she really had gotten away with whatever was going on with her. If G really did just ignore you the moment you left campus, like they had done with Diego. He hoped so. Charlie was probably already out of the country and causing problems for someone else anyway. But it wasn't really what Courtney was asking him. So, he nodded his head. "Yes, I remember," he said, "at the rave. Why? Were you sent something that you think could be about Ollie?" Milo couldn't even begin to guess what that might be. Ollie wore most of his misdeeds pretty openly.

Court started nodding, his head bobbing up and down emphatically before he pulled the valentine out of his pocket, glancing at the note once again before sliding it towards Milo. "I know it's like..." Coco paused, his head tilting towards one shoulder as he thought about it for a moment, wondering how to explain why he was so sure it was Ollie. He had valid reasons, he swore! There was so much evidence behind it. "Everyone kinda knows Ollie does illegal things, right? Like with the...y'know," he lowered his voice, eyes widening at Milo. "Drugs. And the helping with schoolwork. That's illegal, right? I feel like it has to be about him." There was the questioning of why Ollie would send him a note about himself but...maybe he was just trying to confuse Coco.

Milo was currently doom scrolling over his morning yogurt and granola when Courtney approached him. It took a moment for his eyes to lift from his phone, but it took even longer for the other to actually take a seat, and speak. Clearly whatever they had to say was of a important matter, and while that would usually intrigue Milo, considering the number of conversations he'd had recently about dire subjects he would rather not hear whatever Courtney had to say. But he sucked it up, and nodded his head. "Sure," he said as he turned off his phone. "Is this about fanmail you were sent at the Valentine's Day party? It seems like a lot of us got some."

Court hesitated for a moment, a flush coming to his cheeks as Milo turned his eyes on him, wondering for a moment if this was the wrong thing to do. He wanted to turn and run, his metaphorical tail tucked between his legs as he avoided this conversation. But he couldn't, he couldn't risk...whatever G had planned. "Yeah," he said, the answer high pitched and dragged into far more syllables than it needed to be. "I mean, I don't really know what all went down with everyone at the new years eve party, but I, uh, heard G was reaching out to people. And well, do you remember last year when I talked to you about..." Court paused, glancing from side to side before he leaned in slightly closer to Milo. "Ollie?"

Court was fairly panicked. The valentine he had gotten pointed towards one person in his mind - Ollie. He knew that Ollie did illegal things. The whole doing people's homework and tests and fudging their grades and all. But if Ollie was G...and Coco knew it...why would he give him a valentine pointing towards his own wrong doing? He felt like he was being led into a trap and he had no idea how to get out of it. So...he went to one person he had raised his suspicions about Ollie in the past too, even if it had been nearly a year ago. Finally spotting Milo - having been watching for him for nearly an hour - Court approached him, his hesitation visible in every line of his frame as he slipped into the seat across from him. "Hey," he said, a nervous chuckle audible in his voice. "Can I, uh...talk to you about something?"
