I wanted to share with you all possibly the best panorama I have ever taken. Court Mort and I went to the OU Library today and it was one of the most frustrating experiences ever. Our librarian was decently helpful, but it wasn’t anything like the other stories people have been telling. But we found some books and some online articles relating to our books. We printed out the articles and found our books pretty easily. However, when we tried to check out our books, I didn’t have my library card and Courtney’s wouldn’t work. So we had to settle for only our online pieces and now I have to go back to check out my books when I get my library card. But going to the library and not being able to check anything out was really annoying. I’m probably going back later today to get them. I’ll keep you all posted since I know how interested you are in my adventures on this mythical quest to get an A in lit.

I am so sorry that your experience at the library was so awful. It’s so weird because when I went, the librarian was really nice. Maybe we got different librarians? Are you going back today? Because if you are, Garrett and I are meeting there at 3:30 and we could all meet up :) Haha, I just love how sassy this post is at the end though.

Yeah I second everything Claire said. Our experience was extremely frustrated trying to find the actual library. We looked like a couple of lost puppies roaming around trying to find the building. I later had to come back with my fellow OU student of a friend, Geoff Williston to actually check out the book. What a great experience.

Oh and I watched the movie

I really enjoyed watching the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s. It was interesting to see how the producer changed the content from the book. The book characterized the narrator as homosexual, but the movie painted him as someone in love with Holly. That really threw me for a loop. I did like the producers choice to make Audrey Hepburn star as Holly Golightly. She definitely fit the mold for who I imagined her to be.

I’m done yessss.

Words cannot describe the joy I feel receiving a “check” on my general introduction. Overall my experience has been frustrating, but positive. I felt like by the end of this project I had become a better writer. Like honestly I feel better about myself after I finished this project. By the end I feel like I got better at writing more analytically as opposed to just summarizing the plot. That was probably my biggest struggle through this whole project, but hey...I overcame it!

First off, I would just like to say, Audrey Hepburn is beautiful. Anyways, what I love and hate at the same time about reading my book is that there is a face to the character. For some reason I like to be able to create my own character in my head based off the book...I guess that's just the fun of the book. But then again I guess I like being given an interpretation of Holly Golightly. She really fits the bill of what her character is in the book. I'm looking forward to watch the movie later on. I wonder...could that be used as a background source?!

So I finally got my book of criticisms at the library and man was that an experience. First it took a while just for me to find the library because it was so inconspicuous looking hiding behind the larger engineering building. When I finally got inside, I asked the librarian if she could help me find criticism on Lord of The Flies. Almost reluctantly, (this was on one of those extremely cold days so she probably didn’t want to be there either) she pointed me in the right direction which helped but I still had to follow the endless rows of bookshelves all the way down to the end and then decipher the countless sub-categories of how the books were placed. Finally, I found a solid row of books of criticism on Lord of The Flies. This one is a newer version that is basically made up of all the other ones. I have only started to read it, but it’s really interesting. It basically starts off by disregarding Lord of The Flies as anything but a time piece and says “that British schoolboy savagery is not in itself an adequate emblem of universal evil”. After reading only a small part of the book, I have already gained several different perspectives on the book which are all quite fascinating.

I was going to read Lord of the Flies as well. It was actually very hard for me to get into it and I couldn’t see myself writing any papers on it. But I did see a lot of information on it. That is the good thing about picking a well known book because everyone has read it and everyone has an opinion on it. Well at least the important people.

I would have to agree with you that finding the actual library is a pain. There are very few signs and the parking is not close either! Glad to hear you eventually found what you were looking for.

At first I was confused about the different structures that the two narrators had. One was very analytical, it was like the literature I’ve been used to (ominous 3rd person). The other narrator is Janie, who is loud and expressive and captures all the dialects of those around her in speech. It was...

I struggle with the narration too! It's driving me crazy actually. I feel confused like I don't know who's talking and ahhh. Whatever I still like the book.

For the first five chapters, I was struggling to get through the reading. I couldn’t stand the dialog and I would skip over large chunks of it. It was taking me so long to read because I was thinking so hard about what the characters were saying. Once I finished the chapters, I decided to go back...

I like how you came up with the idea to read it aloud..I did that too. For some reason I found myself struggling through the dialogue more that way. It makes me wonder how the editor of this book managed to edit the whole thing. This is some difficult stuff!

Reflection of the first few chapters...

Reading the first chapter I was lost. I didn't like it at all. It didn't help that former students gave this book a bad opinion too. To my surprise...I LIKE THIS BOOK. I never like books so this is a big deal everyone. I feel like I'm taking this journey with Janie as she navigates difficult relationships and struggles with finding herself. I'm rooting for her to come out happy. Hopefully that's how this book ends.

Yes this is proof that I went to the library with Claire. Definitely very frustrating and I had a headache by the end of the day. I told Claire we just had to act cool and pretend like we were in college while we were there. But I must say finding the library was a challenge in itself. I will be going back to the library to actually pick up the books soon. My adventure is to be continued...

breakfast at tiffany's {part 2}

Alright so I kinda need some advice. My book has a really famous movie that goes along with it and I'm wondering if I should wait to watch the movie until after I finish my project. Any thoughts?? I'm afraid I will mix details or who knows maybe it will help....?

I am so in love with this book. The descriptions of Neverland and the characters are so strong, I can’t help but feel like I am a character in the novel myself! The transitions in the narration create this effect throughout the entire novel, making the reading experience an adventure by shifting...

I think it's so great that you found a book that you can't put down. It's really interesting to me that you picked a Disney based book and still love it. I feel like I would personally struggle with mixing the actual movie with the book, but then again the book clearly provides a lot more depth. My book, Breakfast at Tiffany's also has a famous movie based off of it but I'm trying to hold off on watching it until after I finish my book. But I'm glad you're enjoying your book!

I finally settled on the Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton. New York City is almost like a fantasy to me and I like how it is outlined in this book. The old NYC is very regulated and has a lot of rules. The rich stay rich because they marry rich and are assured a good life. It’s nice to set foot...

I'm soooo happy you finally settled on a book. You did a lot to pick your book so you deserve a good one. I did some research on this book too and it looked like a really great book! I like how you pick a book that you think it's not exactly like you because it really helps to open up your perspective. Hopefully you enjoyed it!

Brave New World #4

So i’m not exactly sure what prompted me to do this but I was looking at the cover of my book and decided to google image Brave New World to look at all the different covers. I was surprised to find such a wide range of covers. Some (like the pic above) have what looks like a “soma” pill on the cover, while others have several fetuses in test tubes. The cover of my book has what look like replicated mannequins all walking in a line. I  think it’s interesting to see all the different covers because it shows how different aspects of the book are valued depending on the cover. I just attached this picture because it was my favorite cover that I saw! Anyways, I think you all should google the covers of your books too (you may be surprised by what you see)!!

What an interesting perspective to take. Knowing you and your artistic self, it's cool that you are trying to understand a book based on art. For my book, Breakfast at Tiffany's, some use the movie cover, with Audrey Hepburn, and other books use the stereotypical "Tiffany blue" that is well known. Looking at the cover really says a lot about the book before you open it. Some say "you can't judge a book by its cover", but sometimes I think that's the best way to go. (Even though Kreinbring might call me #judgy)

breakfast at tiffany's {part 1}

Starting off, I'm beginning to enjoy the tone of voice. The author, Truman Capote is so intricate with his details and has a very spontaneous train of thought. Maybe I like it because I think that way myself. The book mentions several different characters in the opening chapters (Mr. Yunioshi, Holly Golightly, Joe Bell...)I'm hoping to be able to keep track of the characters as the book progresses. I feel so much pressure riding on this book to be good!

Starting off The Scarlet Letter I was getting really confused. The language is hard to understand and it takes a lot of effort to understand what exactly is going on. I like it though. Its interesting and the rest of the book is exciting me to see what happens.

I agree with both of you. For my book (Breakfast at Tiffany's) I felt a hard time connecting to my book originally. To be honest I feel like maybe I have a ton of stress on me with this big project that I'm worried about missing details. I'm wondering if I'm gonna have to read my book over twice because there's so much that I'm afraid of missing...?

Picking the work

As I made my choice of book, I wanted to make sure that there would be enough literary criticism on it. My author, Truman Capote is very well known, and there is plenty of information on him. Going forward I am legitimately very excited to start this book. (And I never get excited when reading books).

Picking the work

For me personally, I'm not a huge reader. I don't have a list of books that I want to read, so I really had no idea where to start. I went onto goodreads.com and looked under classic literature. From there I saw Breakfast at Tiffany's. I had heard of the movie with Audrey Hepburn so I knew it was well known. The choice for me was obvious. Breakfast at Tiffany's it is.
