Solangelo angst….

Nico is naturally has an avoidant attachment style…Will is doing his best to work with it, but it’s difficult. After a particularly rough day, Nico is isolating himself in his cabin. Will comes to check on him…Nico insists on being left alone…instead of leaving entirely, Will says nothing. Sits on the floor away from him, and slowly lets Nico move closer as he gets more and more comfortable. It becomes routine, Will is never pushy, just there to support him and be patient.

Thinking of goth nico again

I'm thinking about Nico's (unintentional) asexual coding again, specifically about how is arc centers the "fringe within the fringe" aspect.

We know the demigods are outcasts/misfits and don't fit in with the mainstream ie. the mortals (demigods have trouble with schooling, "normal" jobs and lifestyle because of Adhd, Dyslexia, being tailed by monsters etc). We also learn that Nico happens to be quite consistently an outcast among his own, first in CHB and then at Camp Jupiter, thus establishing his role as the "outcast within outcasts".

This is actually a very interesting, albeit unwitting parallel with the queer community and asexuals: The queer community itself is marginalized, a misfit in the mainstream cishetallo society.

Despite this, the asexuals were (and sometimes still are) excluded from the queer community at large, in essence emerging as fringe within this fringe…if you see now what I'm driving at.

Uggh, Nico having these unintentional but very concrete asexual metaphors and coding is something which crops up in my mind ever so often.
