Britain’s queer youth are under attack. The Tories would have us believe that we are in a new age of freedom and safety, and that the fight is over.  Same-sex marriage has been held up as the holy grail of LGBT equality. But the truth is, they are deliberately and knowingly forcing queer young people into destitution, homelessness, and in too many cases, to self harm and suicide. On Wednesday, the government confirmed their plan to cut housing benefit for 18-21 year olds. Centrepoint youth homelessness charity estimates around 20,000 young people will be affected. These are young people who are already being hit hard by low wages, high rents and, thanks to another Tory scheme, will soon lose their access to Jobseekers Allowance (to be replaced by a workfare programme which will force young people to work for £1.91 per hour). These young people will join the existing 80,000 who find themselves homeless each year, of which around one-quarter are LGBT.

After previously blogging about the Young Greens logo that I made for the Green Party UK, the job was finally wrapped up and the artwork delivered.

Since the original mocks, the typeface has been changed to the official brand font for the Green Party, TheSansOffice Bold, and small tweaks have been made to other supporting text and the icon.

I’m still quite happy with the concept of using an icon based around a sapling, which then matures into a fully-fledged Green Party logo / party member, and am looking forward to seeing it used (or possibly abused) out in the wild.

And so, the non-work design work continues…

We know that some of you face expensive costs for Further Education next year, and we don’t think that’s fair.

A Green Government would

Scrap fees for all Further Education courses

Reinstate Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

Write off all outstanding debt and resulting interest related to 24+ advanced learning loans provided by the student loans company to fund tuition for level 3 and 4 courses.

Increase the funding per student in Further Education to match that in schools.

Global overshoot occurs when humanity’s annual demand for the goods and services that our land and seas can provide—fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, wood, cotton for clothing, and carbon dioxide absorption—exceeds what Earth’s ecosystems can renew in a year. Overshoot means we are drawing down the planet’s principal rather than living off its annual interest. This overshoot leads to a depletion of Earth’s life-supporting natural capital and a build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
