Yelling about Perfume (Day 20)

21/9 Ghoulish Goods is a house I stumbled upon and have loved so far. This entry is about their Haunted Library scent featuring notes of Dusty Pages, Sweet Tobacco, and Mahogany Shelves. Very straight forward starting with an earthiness with a touch of floral, drying more woody, very aged smelling. Quite nice.

Like hugging a grandfather after not seeing them for a while. Smoke and dust hanging in the air.

Ghoulish Goods has really good staying power in my experience and this one was no different at about an hour and a half.

Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed Haunted Library and would for sure wear this one. A really mellow 'weird' scent. For sure a fall scent and one that will be getting good wear.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 19)

2/9 This is one of the first perfumes I sought out. Death and Floral's FROGS! is kind of a classic in the indie perfume world that I have jumped into. With more 'normal' notes of Warm Woods, Cedar, Moss, and Yuzu and wild cards like Frog Skin and Mushrooms, this has something for everyone. Very foresty and funky while wet, it builds some citrus and muskiness as it dries. It does have a distinct 'amphibian' note that is intriguing.

Sitting by a pond deep in the forest, surrounded by frogs and trees. Super strong Hozier vibes.

I've noticed that Death and Floral scents have the best staying power stats I've recorded. This one was a whopping 2 hours 15! And that was because I needed to sleep and updating early! Probably closer to 3 hours.

Final Thoughts: I bought this with high expectations and it has lived up to (and exceeded) all of them! One of my favorite things about wearing this scent is telling people what you're wearing by simply saying 'Frogs' and watching the confusion. LOVE!

Yelling about Perfume (Day 18)

29/7 Osmofolia's And Life & the Fields, a Honeycomb, Grains, Tonka, Neroli, Hay, and Apricot scent that has a sweet, fruity musk and dries much more green. Super well-rounded and easily identifiable notes.

Like a fall farmer's market; dry grains, late harvest honey, and bright fruits scattered about.

I was smelling this one for about an hour and that was just when the throw died. I could still pick out most of the base notes at that point.

Final Thoughts: I LOVED this one. Super wearable and could easily cross seasons though it really read fall/early winter to me. This one solidified the love I hold for Osmofolia.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 17)

18/7 Another showing from Sugar and Spite, Shroud. Violet, Geranium, Coconut Milk, Saffron, and Cedar. A strong opening of geranium with the earthiness building. A hint of spice in the back with creaminess throughout.

An interesting 'old lady' smell, like a pre-layered Avon scent. A great blend of classic and unique.

This one hung around for a good while. I clocked it at an hour 15 but gave up for sleep so who really knows haha.

Final Thoughts: I actually really enjoyed this floral, surprising considering my normal wants. I could see myself wearing this one though I don't know if I'd routinely reach for it.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 16)

17/7 A new house introduced in this little experiment, Osmofolia. Reverie is a rather complex scent, boasting notes of Steamed Rice, Marshmallow, Ambrette, Clove, Black Pepper, and Haze. A super sweet earthiness opening building into a more spiced, atmospheric experience. Quite enjoyable.

Like the end of a woodland picnic, wafts of food linger in the air but it's mostly just the surrounding nature.

I noticed the scent dissipate around the 45 minute mark to just faint wisps of aroma. This recording happened around the end of the day though and that might have skewed my results.

Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one and could see myself wearing it pretty routinely. A good all-rounded scent!

Yelling about Perfume (Day 15)

26/6 Death and Floral brings us Astronaut Makes a PB&J today. I love this houses experimental scents and this is definitely one of them. Gourmet Peanut Butter, Royal Jelly, and Wonder Bread are the only notes listed and this mix does a pretty good job of displaying them. An earthy honey-ness starts off the journey and dries with more of the nuttiness and bready notes.

An outer space sandwich that I didn't know I had the context for in my head. It smells otherworldly but still has a 'sandwich' essence.

This one clung on for dear life! Around 2 hours before I either went nose blind or it began dissipating. You need to know you like this one before fully committing.

Final Thoughts: This is for sure a divisive scent. I'm not sure if I like it yet and I wore it for 2+ hours! I think I'm hanging onto this one to come back to and might keep it around simply because it's so strange.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 14)

17/6 Picking back up with a pick from Poesie. Madar is a Rice Pudding scent highlighting Cardamom, Cinnamon, Orange Blossom, and Sugared Pistachios. It's an earthy, sweet-spiced fragrance while wet and develops a floral nuttiness as it dries.

Like the slightly sweet dessert passed out after a meal of lamb and rice -- fragrant and subtly complex.

This was rather fleeting in staying power at just 20 minutes. It faded into a faint 'perfume' smell but no distinct notes could be detected. This was without a lotion or other 'sticky' substance so that is something I need to experiment with.

Final Thoughts: I loved what was going on in the scent profile and thought that the combo on my skin was really good. The staying power is something that I'm hesitant about just because I expect something a little better than sub half hour. This is a house favorite though so it'll be sticking around until I figure out a solution.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 13)

10/6 Morari îs one of my favorite houses and we have their Poached Peaches today. Simply Syrupy Peaches and Cinnamon. It is a cinnamon-y sweet smell wet with a slight fruitiness as it dries but nothing specific.

Like a bakery in Christmastime, mince pies specifically, cinnamon forward and a fruitiness that's hard to place.

This one stayed in place for about an hour before fading into a faint spice scent.

Final Thoughts: I liked this one but I don't think this is Morari's best. I think this will be a layering scent for me around the holidays. We'll keep it in the cycle for now.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 12)

6/6 Poesie's Headmaster was one I picked up on a whim and I couldn't be happier. Notes of Pencil Shavings, Cherry Pipe Tobacco, Suede and Paper. Very woody throughout and dries down into a nice floral ish scent with a hint of Leather.

The first thing that left my mouth as I applied this was 'fucking gender envy in a bottle' so I think that tells you how much I love this one. It is the ideal library scent -- very old-school bookish vibe.

This guy hung around for a long time at least an hour fifteen until I couldn't tell it was there but that could be a 'nose-blind' situation.

Final Thoughts: I LOVE this scent. I would consider this a signature scent if it wasn't a collection they've discontinued. This is one I've reached for pretty consistently since I grabbed it and will continue to do so.

24/5 Another Riddle scent, Poppy this time. Orange Blossom, Rose, Ylang Ylang, and Lemon. It's an updated Old Lady smell, really rose heavy. The citruses come through in the dry down and brightens the whole experience.

This reminds me of the perfume my grandmother wore but updated. A little lighter and fresher but still hyper feminine.

This perfume would not leave my skin. After an hour and a half, this was tapering off into indistinguishable nothingness. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I typically do these in the morning before work and I had to keep checking my wrists for dissipation rates. Definitely biased there.

Final Thoughts: I think would be great on someone else but my skin really skews it hyper feminine, which isn't what I'm looking for consistently. Probably another rehome.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 10)

23/5 One of the only "conventional" oil houses I have, Riddle. Starting with there baseline, Original, with simply Amber and Musk. This is super basic, especially compared to the rest of my collection. It is really just 'skin plus'. Super wearable and, probably, a good layer-able.

It is advertised as a 'pheromone' perfume which I don't love but the smell is over all pretty good.

This one hung around for about an hour before I noticed a taper in scent payoff. This one clung to my skin and even at the hour mark, I was still smelling it pretty well as I moved around.

Final Thoughts: I think I liked it? It's so one note that I don't know if anyone could have an extreme reaction to it. It'll probably be an amplifier for other scents in my use but we'll see how it goes.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 9)

22/5 Today brings Alkemia's Esprit de la Terre. A few of the notes (as there are a million) are Green Cedar, Leather, Coriander, Ambergris, Olive Flowers, and so many more. It is a Green woodsy scent but it's sooo confusing. Wafts are okay but all together it's simply too much.

It's like being transported into the most bio-diverse section of a forest has -- so many things intertwined. So overwhelming.

This one dissipated into indistinguishable perfume smell in about 30 minutes.

Final Thoughts: On my skin, this through everything and the kitchen sink at me. I liked the paper test strip I did but wearing it made everything too much. I'll probably rehome this one to someone who hopefully has more luck than I did with it.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 8)

20/5 One of my few full size oils, Hades from Bath Sabbath. The initial scent profile is a punchy, citrusy pomegranate, which makes sense with Pomegranate, Lime, Bergamot, and Frankincense notes. The darker incense kicks in as it dries.

It's the deep richness of a Dark Academia Aesthetic, a professor grading papers into the night with a lightly citrus scented candle. Very like the God it's named after.

This one doesn't cling to dry skin very well (but does extremely well with a lotion barrier). I noticed that it dissipated in about 20 minutes with just wispy scent after that.

Final Thoughts: I love this scent! This is one of the closest to a daily wear that I own. Can not recommend this one enough!

17/5 Another Sugar and Spite scent: Love is Lost. This one has a base of Nag Champa, Dark Plum, Indian Sandalwood, and Black Vanilla. While wet, it is almost exclusively incense but evolves into a plum-y, woody experience.

It is like the hug of sensory experiences walking into your favorite metaphysical shop (please tell me others have a go to shop), slightly overwhelming until you relax into the experience.

It was pretty average for the amount of time you get big wafts of scent at about 25 minutes, when it petered into smelling almost like you just left an incense filled room.

Final Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one but it is a sensory overload while wet. I don’t know if I could convince myself to put this on first thing in the morning and for that I don’t know if I would wear it more than every once and a while.

16/5 She Dreams in Digital from Andromeda's Curse. With notes of Lavender, Oakmoss, Icy Blueberries, Ylang Ylang, and the Inevitability of Entropy, it begins as an Earthy Floral. It mellows into the fruitier notes and becomes more complex.

Smells like the 'blue' flavored candy you'd pilfered from an old lady's bag at church. A good blend of 'manufactured' and natural scents.

This one was hovering around a half hour for dissipation, when it softened into a lightly floral musk.

Final Thoughts: I think I like this one but I do have a mild allergy to lavender so I really shouldn't be exposing myself to it very often. I will be giving this to someone who will enjoy it more regularly than me.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 5)

13/5 From Alkemia, we have Ammil. It has only two notes reported: Wet Snow and Ice and Velvety Warm Skin. And it did an amazing job of portraying both. It was a nothing floral while wet and developed into an honestly cold smell in that I wrote “like to the point I have nothing else to say”.

It really was a winter day in an almost sterile way. There isn’t a nature note so it is purely cold air, nothing else.

It didn’t stick around long without help with only 20 minutes of distinct scent. It was extremely light from the jump though.

Final Thoughts: I love this so much. It was more of a sensational experience than scent at a point so I don’t know if it’s a wearable one for me.

Yelling about Perfume (Day 4)

11/5 We’ve got a Sugar and Spite offering with Bread for the Devil. Notes of Blackened Bread, Ripe Pumpkin, Dark Spices, and Amber Honey. This was a Yankee Candle in liquid form, intense spice with a more vegetal dry down.

This was walking into a mall corner with a Yankee Candle, Bath and Body Works, and a White Barn in early October. A walking headache, honestly.

It clung for about an hour and I really think it was longer but I went a little nose blind after a while.

Final Thoughts: I liked it but at what cost. It was so strong that I will have this bottle forever.
