the ‘well what did you expect’ reaction to the u.s. mens post-win-shitshow is so frustrating cause. actually i think these are really unique circumstances we’re living in and it’s more than just oh white man is republican, and i think a lot of people are normalizing the acts of this administration by acting like it isn’t. the shit happening over here has gotten so undeniably egregious so yeah it is a bit devastating seeing them party with ultra mega super evil overlord’s henchman who is playing an active role in ripping people’s lives apart, and then going above and beyond locker room talk by also parading it around on the internet after the fact. i literally do not give a fuck how drunk they were these are grown ass men who fully know what they’re doing.

and none of that is even to mention the side issue of the hughes brothers, whose mother has played and is STILL playing an active role in the expansion of women’s sports, going on their little pr zoom calls and media availability and glazing women in sports just to turn around and punch down on them with neo-hitler himself.

nuance exists but it does not exist here. having grown up in the south as a leftist like yes it is so complicated seeing people you love turn out to be morally inept pieces of shit but these are rich white men you do not know. there’s a major difference between not really knowing where they stand vs now having it splayed out in front of you. you do not need to support them. frankly i hope not a single man in that room feels the touch of another human being for the remainder of their lifetime.

summary: sid just yearning for ya

a/n: been a while lol so sorry! writer's block got to me, and i was so unmotivated, but randomly got inspired today to write even if it's short. anway hope you guys enjoy! :)

it was one of those rare days during the season that Sidney actually had free time, and how he wished you were here.

and most of the time, you were—just not now.

while he was at home trying to enjoy time without you (which was impossible by the way), you were on a trip with all of your friends halfway across the country. he couldn't complain, considering he'd known about the trip the second it was suggested.

in fact, he'd encouraged you to go. sidney knew how lonely it was during hockey season, and he would never let you give up the opportunity where you could enjoy yourself, especially during a time when he knew you needed it the most.

the only issue now is that the trip managed to land on one of the days sidney ended up getting off. it sucked, and he was bummed.

basically the whole day he spent getting stuff done around the house. things that he would always do with you when you were here. it was sappy, but he couldn't help that everything in the house reminded him of you.

the scent of your body wash that refused to leave the bathroom, the pair of socks that sat on your nightstand, the yogurt you forgot to eat that had gone bad in the fridge, even the fucking way that the couch had perfectly molded to your shape in the exact spot you sat when you watched his games from home.

sidney missed you—way more than he thought he would. it was weird, he didn't quite understand. he was away from you most of the year, away from home. he always missed you, but this time it was different, because you were always there when he got home.

the warmth of your body, the softness of your hair, the smell of your perfume; they were all things he longed for when he was home. even if it was just for a night.

so when he came home that day, and you weren't there, he didn't know what to do. and the day after that, too, when he had to wake up without you next to him in the comfort of your bed since what felt like forever.

it was torture, and do you know what the worst thing was?

the day you finally came back, he wouldn't be here. sidney would have to spend yet another miserable day without you.

so, when he stepped foot inside the house, he left everything at the door and walked straight into the living room, his face basically beaming when his eyes locked on you.

there you were, on the couch, in your spot.

like the speed of light, sidney walked over to you and picked you up into his arms, your legs wrapping around his waist.

the giggles that left you as he pressed what felt like millions of kissed down your neck were like songbirds to him. he never wanted them to stop.

reluctance gnawed at him as he pulled away, but it quickly faded as his eyes ran over your face, a small smirk growing on his own face as he leaned his forehead against yours.

sidney didn't even let you speak, immediately pressing his lips to yours as if he were a man starving; there would be time for talking, but now wasn't the time.

you didn't know how long you kissed, taking only a few pauses for breath, but when he finally slowed, sidney murmured against your lips:

"I'm never letting you go."
