Am I truly just your duty…” It was Wylans turn to duck his head in shame and avoid looking at Jesper. He hesitantly looked back up again when Jesper stepped close to him, reached up, and gave Wylan’s crown a tilt to put it back properly sitting on his messy hair.

“Do you really mean that?” he inquired, eyes wide with hope.
The two of them broke into a wheeze.
“I would laugh, but I think if I did, I’d break a rib,” Y/N commented.
“Women in Fjerda wear corsets all day,” said Matthias. He was the tallest in the room, standing out so blatantly it made the other two want to curl into themselves. “I don’t know how you’d survive.”
“Yet another reason to never want to go to Fjerda again.”
His eyes narrowed slightly.
“Sorry,” she mumbled.
“If anything, I think Kaz is the prettiest princess in the room,” Wylan insisted.
Dirtyhands slowly looked down at him from two stairs above, raising an unimpressed brow.
“It was a compliment, Kaz. For the love of all Saints. Take it.”
Rather, he shifted his gaze back out amongst the crowd, waiting for the mercher who owned the home to find himself busy in the kitchen.
“What is taking him so long?” mumbled Matthias.
“It’s Jesper,” Wylan stated dryly. “Why are you expecting anything more from him?”
“You’d think he’d learn how to tell time by now.”
“Not once since I’ve known him has he been early,” Y/N remarked.
“What about on-time?”
“Once.”
“When was that?” the Fjerdan’s head tilted quizzically.
“When we kidnapped you.”
His eyebrows shot up, then he nodded. “Alright.”
There was a flinching crash that erupted from the room over. A collective of “Aws” and “Ohs” as well as annoyed chatter floated out from around the corner.
Wylan shrugged, “A little late, but that’s alright.”
“Damn right,” Y/N muttered. “Go. Go.” She pushed Wylan up the stairs behind Matthias and Kaz.
To all of their surprises, the office was unlocked.
“Idiot,” Dirtyhands mumbled. “Matthias, take off the painting.”
As instructed, he lifted the enormous portrait of the ballet dancer from the wall. Kaz’s eyes were almost alight at the safe built into the wallpaper.
“Does he look at me the way he looks at stolen goods?”
“Yes,” Matthias and Wylan said in unison.
Y/N’s eyes widened and her nose scrunched. Meanwhile, the mastermind was too galvanized by the dial on the black box to notice their commentary.
A small, but dramatic, gasp caused everyone besides Kaz to spin around.
“Wylan, keep it down, will you?” he said.
“That wasn’t Wylan …” Y/N mumbled.
When Kaz turned to the target of their gazes, he spotted a stupified child standing in the middle of the room, big yellow stars on a blue nightgown reaching just past her knees. Her hair was in two braids, strands that looked as though they were hanging on for dear life not to come loose. She couldn’t have been more than four years old.
“How the hell did she get in here?”
“Oi, watch your tongue,” Y/N nearly snapped, head turning back to look at him. “We’ve got a wee lass in our midst. Let’s keep it her father’s fault for when she becomes corrupted.”
“Is that who you think about?” said Matthias.
Her head whipped to him, expression full of rage. She pointed a finger at his amusement. “I swear to all Saints and my dead grandmother, you may be 6’4, but I will still ram you down like a brig to a canoe.”
“Wylan,” Kaz bit out.
“Do you see how small she is?” he exclaimed. “She could have come up from the floorboards!”
“Are you a fairy princess?”
The room suddenly became deadly silent. If it weren’t for the party downstairs, you’d be able to hear their breathing.
The little girl had an almost unnoticeable lisp. She was staring right at Y/N. Her eyes were wide in curiosity. Y/N couldn’t help but smile at her innocence.
A small groan escaped her lips as her breathing constricted once more from kneeling down. She flattened a palm over her stomach as she forced out: “Yes, I am.”
The merchant’s daughter gasped again. “I knew it! I knew you were real!” As her small arms threw themselves around Y/N’s neck, the thief searched the wall frantically. Her eyes caught on a few drawings in wooden frames, but only one of them was signed.
“Wait!” Delilah exclaimed, pulling back. “Why are you here with Papa’s safe?”
“Because, Delilah—”
She gasped again. “You know my name?”
“Yes. All fairy princesses know their friend’s names.” She couldn’t help but grin as the four-year-old squirmed with joy, her small legs and arms doing a little jig. “Delilah, your papa has stolen magic dust from the sprites. My prince charming and I are here to get it back, but you weren’t supposed to see us. Can you keep a secret, Delilah?”
She nodded vigorously. “Yes. Yes. I can keep a secret. I won’t tell anybody. I promise. Oh, I’m so mad at Papa! I’m gonna get so mad at him!”
“No, no, you can’t say anything. Sulk, throw a tantrum, give him the silent treatment, don’t react. Anything but tell him the reasoning.
“Once adults find out fairies are real, their magic dies. And do you know what happens when fairies' magic dies?”
Her eyes became as wide as saucers, the diamond iris on display. “They die?”
“Yes, they die.”
Matthias and Wylan snorted lightly from behind her.
Delilah whispered, “Which one is your prince charming?”
The grin that grew on Y/N’s mouth became too big, causing her to shove her bottom lip between her teeth. She turned to fully face the others and pointed to Kaz, whose expression didn’t flinch despite not understanding.
“Really?” Delilah whispered as though he was the most extraordinary thing she’d ever seen.
“Mhm.”
“Are they fairies too?” she said a little louder, poking out a chubby finger toward the other two in the room.
Y/N smiled, “Yes, they are my royal guards.”
Neither of the boys could help but smile, as if the lie gave them a dash of confidence.
“Wow,” Delilah breathed.
“Now. Where are your parents?”
“Well,” she strung out the word. “Papa is downstairs because he is having a party with his friends and Mumma is sleeping but she gets very tired during the day because she’s super busy so she won’t wake up and Papa already put me to bed but, don’t tell him, but I don’t actually go to sleep, I just sit at the top of the stairs and listen to him and his friends talk—they’re very weird—sorry. Mumma says that’s not a nice word. They’re very different—but then I saw you and I followed you!”
“Okay. Let’s get you back to bed, then, huh?” Y/N straightened out the sleeve of her nightgown and took her small hand. “Come on.”
“Goodnight prince charming!” Delilah grinned at Kaz, whose eyes snapped open wide.
“Yes, that’s him, bedtime, let’s go. Say goodnight, Delilah.”
“Goodnight, Delilah,” Wylan and Matthias said in unison, the upturn of their lips evident in their tone.
Kaz still hadn’t replied. And once they were outside the closed door, Y/N could hear the two boys burst into a fit of hysterical laughter. She could only imagine what Dirtyhands’ expression was like. Luckily, she didn’t just have to imagine.
Kaz appeared just as brooding as she expected on the walk home.
“I’d say that plan went exceptionally well,” said Wylan, his voice bouncing off the walls of the buildings.
“Oh, yes. It was the best heist yet. What do you think …” Matthias walked backwards to face Kaz, a wicked grin on his lips. “Your Highness.”
“Watch it, Drüskelle.”
“Oh, leave them be,” hushed Y/N, hooking her pinky around his. “They’re only making fun.”
“And it’s annoying.”
“When are they not?”
The smile on her face faded.
“Why won’t you look at me?” she said.
“What are you talking about?” Kaz retorted.
“Ever since I came back to the room you haven’t looked at me.”
He turned his gaze toward her and lifted a sculpted brow. “I’m looking at you right now.”
“That’s not what I see in your eyes.”
His other eyebrow lifted as if to say “Really?” and she mocked the gesture. Kaz spluttered, then sighed in defeat.
“I liked seeing you with her.”
“Kaz Brekker has normal human emotions towards his girlfriend? Who would have ever thought of such a possibility?”
He rolled his eyes, but she could see the smile he was stifling in the corners of his lips.
“If it’s any consolation, I could tell,” she added.
“How?”
“Your face was blank the whole time. You do it when you’re giving something your full attention. It’s sort of like your scheming face just, without the crease between your eyebrows.”

I’ve literally had multiple people ask me straight to my face if I was bisexual because they suspected I was and even tho I knew in all three of those situations that the person I was talking to was safe (either queer themself or an ally), it was really scary to be forced in that moment to come out without my consent, or feel forced to lie about it in order to protect myself, regardless of whether I needed to or not. I can’t imagine being a world famous celebrity and having fan pages dedicated to my alleged sexuality, analyzing every behavior I did and whether or not it was queer, calling all of my relationships PR relationships or beards because they are so convinced I am a homosexual. Either erasing my bisexuality to call me a lesbian or forcefully outing me. People who don’t even know me. It’s scary and honestly creepy enough having someone who knows you personally do it, but someone who’s never even met you? And doing it in front of the whole world? I would never feel safe enough to come out, not just because of the risk of homophobic attacks, but because the people who claim to support me are the ones that made me do it
All of the actors for the Six of Crows storyline are remarkably well cast, but gonna focus on Kit Young for a second because that dude has something so fucking special. There's a subversive joy in his choices as Jesper that just kills me. Like at the end of season one with the line: "Tell me you have a plan. I don't care if it's a lie."
Reading that in your head without having seen his interpretation, the instinct is to go a little ragged, sardonic, exasperated - something to tell us that the character does actually care but just fucking can't deal with this shit right now. But Kit puts a pleading inflection on the line, his Jesper truly wants to be lied to, bringing it around to comedic desperation.
And it's not just with this line delivery, those facial expression reactions he does elevates every scene he's in. My favorite underrated moment is when he gives Wylan a confident wink and thumbs up when they're both getting the shit beat out of them. The juxtaposition of Jesper indicating "this is going exactly according to plan" when it's clearly not brings so much fun to the scene.
But the scene I keep coming back to over and over that I'm blown away by is under the carriage, when Jesper remembers Wylan. I could see so many actors taking those line directions and putting some angst behind them. We know Jesper was hurt when Wylan left in the morning, we know he blocked it out because his ego was bruised and he didn't want to face the pain of it. It would have made perfect sense for the line reading to have an edge to it, any indication of a grudge.
But Kit's face is lit up with nothing but fondness and joy as he remembers. And obviously actors aren't islands, the writers and directors have big influence - and they clearly are in line with a joy-filled Jesper, since the first thing they have Jesper say isn't "and you left me," it's "and you brought me stroopwaffles."
Jesper isn't a clown, but he's allowed to be one when he wants to be, and Kit leans into choosing joy with such effervescence. It only serves to make the dramatic scenes that much more heart wrenching. I hope we get a lot more Crows on screen, but whatever happens I'm excited to follow Kit's career, what a talented dude.
neither scott nor gerard knew that kate had raped derek, because derek never told them! so scott can't be be held accountable for dehumanising or "violating" derek (which scott never did, because it's just a neck grab.) what scott did to derek made derek a better person and taught him a lesson. not to mention that scott's plan defeated gerard and saved everyone's life. scott had a reason to use derek; just like scott had a reason to say that the hales deserved to be burnt alive by the hunters
I'm sorry, but did you literally skip all of the first part of my post? If you did, then I highlighted why what Scott did is something horrible to do, to ANYBODY. The fact that Derek is a rape victim makes it worse, but it's not like the action within itself isn't horrifying.
Look at this way: what if it had been, say, Jackson instead of Derek? My werewolves-in-lacrosse-is-cheating post aside, let's say that whoever Jackson bit would get the instant ability to play lacrosse like a pro and would become part of Jackson's team, and would also get dashing good looks. Jackson only bites the select few people whom he trusts and cares for, like Lydia and Danny, and sees the bite as something special, a gift. And then, when Scott is supposed to be allied with Jackson, he picks Jackson up, forces open his mouth, and closes it around Gerard Argent's arm, and later reveals that oh no, it was a trick all along, I've already dosed Gerard with lacrosse-bane LOL.
Jackson feels betrayed. He gets that it needed to be done, but to feel his own body be picked up and to be forced to do something that he thinks sacred, WITHOUT HIS CONSENT... despite the end result, it's horrifying. Those few moments haunt him forever. And all of it, ALL OF IT could have been avoided if only Scott had told him, Jackson, Scotts ally, that it needed to be done. And even then... well, Jackson would probably consent to it, but I wouldn't exactly call him a dick if he didn't.
And no, it wasn't just a 'neck grab'. Scott forced Derek to bite Gerard, even after Derek REPEATEDLY said no. If you rewatch that scene, Scott picks Derek up, forces open his mouth, and makes him bite Gerard's arm. It is... genuinely horrifying to watch.
Plus, Scott DID know that Derek's family had been burnt by Kate, even if he didn't know the exact story. He was basically setting Derek up for a lifetime of ptsd. If it had been an in the moment thing, a last resort (like, say Matthias getting Nina captured in the ice court. He had zero choice, because he needed to lure Brum in, get him to trust him, so that he could free Nina later. But I digress, or I'll rant about soc forever), then I probably wouldn't blame Scott. But he had to have been thinking of it for AGES, at least back when he started filling the capsules with mountain ash. Am I supposed to believe he couldn't think of anything better? Well, if that's so... then all disrespect intended, Scott is a fucking idiot and not half as smart as he thinks he is. Which in itself isn't a bad thing-- you don't HAVE to be super smart. But there's a reason that smart people make the plans, and it's because, well, they're smart, and they're the most capable of making good plans. So, either Scott is an idiot with zero-self awareness, or he's an ass.
Look, I don't know what the hell you're smoking, but generally, saying that the people trying to kill you and your ally, even if you think said ally has betrayed you, were right in burning said ally's family to the ground, killing literal, innocent children, when you've seen firsthand how BRUTAL the people trying to kill you are... yeah, it's a pretty dickish thing to do. Or idiotic, I suppose.
Well, I guess what I realized by making this post today is that there's a chance that Scott isn't actually a dick, he's just fucking stupid with zero critical thinking skills or self-awareness. Which... well, if that's what you were going for, anon, then I guess your goal has been accomplished.

Yeah, you're right. Derek learnt a lesson by having his bodily autonomy taken away and his body used against his will. Inej learnt a lesson by getting caught by Tante Heleen and being forced to relive the worst days of her life during the ice court heist, and Wylan learnt a lesson by getting beaten horribly by his father. Daenerys learnt a lesson by getting rape threats from Dothraki warlords and Yunkaii slavers. I could go on, anon, but I think that this is quite enough.
i know i rbed a post about it yesterday but i'm still so mad about what s&b did to wylan. they took literally his whole personality away. they took away his bashfulness and anxiety. they took away his cunning and his mischief. they took away his quiet courage and his jealousy. they watered him down to a bland outline of a person and then ruined his whole dynamic with jesper as a result. their whole thing in the books relied on their friendship, the slow burn, and their emotional turmoil, especially in crooked kingdom. they lost everything that made them special when the show had them hook up before the season even starts. they ruined all the reveals with wylan's backstory. they literally could not have done a worse job with him. and it sucks because jack wolfe probably could have done a wonderful job with wylan's character had it been written properly. but he never got the chance.
