Fuck anyone who says “why do you care about the election - you don’t even live in America.” Even if we forget for a moment that the U.S is arguably one of the most influential governments in the world and what they do effects us all, a basic sense of human empathy is what makes those living outside of America so terrified. We’re scared for every woman who is going to be denied access to an abortion and those who will inevitably die in an attempt to access an illegal one. We’re scared for every person who will seek asylum from war and poverty but will be denied compassion. We’re scared for LGBT+ people who don’t feel safe in their own communities. We’re scared for people of colour and the institutionalised oppression that they experience every day. We’re scared for victims of sexual assault knowing that their President invalidates and trivialises their experiences. We’re scared for our ailing environment. I could go on forever. We’re scared and sad and angry and disgusted that someone so vile, so comically ridiculous will probably be elected as the leader of the free world. Sometimes the bad guy wins and, in this case, it’s fucking scary because the bad guy has the power to make or break the lives of hundreds of millions of people. You don’t need to live in America to understand that, you just have to have some sense of human compassion.
!!!!!
Y'all pissed off Captain America
If you voted for Trump tonight, make sure to explain to your gay, trans, female, black, Latina/o, and Muslim friends why they don’t matter to you.
If you voted Third Party tonight, make sure to explain to your gay, trans, female, black, Latinx, and Muslim friends why they don’t matter to you.
If you deliberately chose not to vote, make sure to explain to your gay, trans, female, black, Latinx, and Muslim friends why they don’t matter to you.
Reblog this if your blog is a safe haven for ALL non-white, disabled, trans, queer, and/or women, and your ask box is open to anyone who needs it tonight, or anytime, for the next few years.
i can’t fucking believe yall hate women and minorities and immigrants this fucking much
Protest votes are a privilege. One that is most enjoyed by people who are privileged. When you wake up the next day and Trump won, nobody poor or disadvantaged will thank you for your protest vote. If you are progressive and care about the rights of minorities and the other, vote for someone who at least lends their ear to their concerns. Otherwise I will just assume you are selfish. Perfection is often the enemy of greatness. If you are still stuck in the period of your life when you expect there will always be a more perfect and more viable option, maybe you just haven’t matured enough. Life honestly involves compromise in even our most basic decisions—and especially in politics. That’s simply how our country has gotten as far as it has.

Donald Trump in and of himself is not even the biggest problem. Yes, he’s a moron. No, he’s never been a real success at anything. Yes, he’s a racist and a bigot and full of hate, but he can’t directly ascend into a giant throne casting lightning bolts at people. That’s not what’s happening here. There are still channels to get through. He can’t just fuck everything up completely in a few weeks or months. That’s not the scenario America is facing.
The essential problem is, Trump’s victory is a victory for all those millions who actually feel the way he feels. It is validation for millions of people who want to hate and destroy and devalue others. It is a victory that allows racists and homophobes and misogynists and bigots and sexists to say, “We are right and we have spoken.” It’s a victory for the mean and the cruel. It’s a victory for bullies. It’s a victory for rapists. It’s a big, big win for hate. It’s a massive step backwards, back to where those people want to be, and they will do their fucking best to drag everyone back there with them.
