BARBARA MACHIN is the newly-appointed Visiting Professor for the TV & Film Section, School of Creative Technologies. A BAFTA and EMMY award winning screenwriter, Barbara created BBC1’s world-wide selling hit series WAKING THE DEAD which ran for ten years. She was part of the writing and producing team and is currently working on a USA version of the show and creating and writing a new long-running crime series for Sky, THE TRUTH. Her crime adaptations for the screen include CARLA, INSPECTOR ALLEYN and AN UNSUITABLE JOB FOR A WOMAN. Barbara is passionate about the craft of writing and showrunning and her Inaugural Lecture - entitled DARING TO DREAM: Taking Creative Risks will encourage students and staff to consider and expand their own approaches to creativity.

Mike Bushell is a sports presenter for the BBC. He presents the sport on BBC Breakfast on Fridays and at the weekends, and sometimes on other weekdays. Bushell holds the world record for trying different sports, on his Saturday morning slot, on BBC 1, in which he tries to inspire people off the sofa to be more active and try a new activity. With a Drama & Television Degree, Mike has developed a very successful journalism career.
