Jasper Whitlock was born in the 1840s in Texas. He grew up in a time of turmoil and joined the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. During his time in the war, he met a vampire named Maria who turned him into a vampire. He became a major in her vampire army, which was focused on controlling newborn vampires for combat purposes. Over time, he grew weary of the fear and sadness that surrounded him, the strong emotions taking it's toll on him, and attempted to leave. Angered by this, his sire Maria explained there was an easier option to it all...by switching his emotions off. By doing so Jasper became a killing machine, surrounded by of the constant violence and bloodshed. However even this grew tiresome to the humanityless Jasper, and he finally left Maria's army.
Jasper wandered as a nomad for decades, struggling to control his bloodlust and violent tendencies. He eventually encountered Alice Cullen, a member of a peaceful vampire coven, whose determined and bright personality had the jaded vampire uneasy. Overtime her determination to be by his side slowly let his first emotions to begin to return....hope. It wasn't long with the woman by his side that he switched his humanity back on, and accepted the new sense of purpose and family that she offered with the Cullen's.
As a member of the Cullen family, Jasper is known for his calm and reserved demeanour. He has trained extensively to improve his self-control and to harness his empathic ability to manipulate emotions. Despite his struggles, he remains a protective and valuable member of his adoptive family.
