Elisa was so, so disappointed in herself. She’d gotten so lost in the parties and Dominic and his bad friends, she had completely abandoned her actual friends. She had abandoned her schoolwork, ditched more classes than ever before and had not been spending enough time with her family.

Most of all she was scared of how low her grades were. She’d missed so much and it was now hitting her that if she couldn’t pick herself back up, she would not graduate with the rest of her class. She couldn’t let that happen. One month until the end of the year, exams looming dangerously close, but she had to try. She had to get back control over her life.

Elisa never imagined this would happen. She never thought she would be so blind and stupid. “He’s a good guy.” She had been saying to herself. “He isn’t always nice but he’s a good guy. Not many people know his good side, but I do. He loves me.” It was embarrassing how long it took her to realise that was so wrong. She had never been more than arm candy. His girlfriend just so he had one. Stupid.

She had expected calls and texts. “Where are you? Are you okay?” Maybe even “I’m sorry.” But nothing happened. She hadn’t been to school because she didn’t want him to come looking for her there, but her very few friends said they never even saw him there. It took more than a week for him to reach out to her. With a text that said: “When you stop moping can you pick up some beer, I’m hosting a party tomorrow.” When she didn’t respond he said: “Hello? Are you dead or something?” And a final “Bitch.” when she didn’t respond to that either.

Stupid. It took her that long to realise he didn’t care about her. She was so embarrassed. She let him take advantage of her and didn’t even see it. It wasn’t her fault, but still she could only blame herself.
