Whenever there was a birthday in the family or any other special day that needed to be remembered, you could count on Diamond to literally be the first one to forget all about it. No matter how many reminders she got leading up to the event, her mind just moved so fast a lot of the time that it was easy for her to forget things and for her to just get distracted altogether. There were even times when she failed to remember her own birthday…If it wasn’t for her Personal Assistant, Stefanie, Diamond was sure that her life would have had little to no order to it whatsoever.
As it was, it had taken Stef having to physically come down to the photography studio and literally drag Dime out of the wardrobe department and into the waiting car, for Diamond to finally remember that it was her uncle’s birthday that day. “Oh hell,” had been her response as she facepalmed. The fact that her uncle was turning fifty was a big deal, and she had completely forgotten about it - so caught up in finally getting back to work, and spending time with Darren…and thinking about the whole mess with Zoe. Thankfully, she had already bought him a gift weeks ago, and she made sure the driver swung by her penthouse on the way so that she could pick it up.
When they finally pulled up to her uncle’s house, Diamond climbed out of the car and after thanking Stef and the driver, she made her way to the front door, knocking gently. As Ronan answered, Diamond could tell from the look on his face that he hadn’t been expecting her. She just gave him a mirthful smile as he backed away, and shook her head, “Not a chance, Uncle…What, you think you could turn fifty on us and not have us make it even a little bit of a big deal? Do you now know us at all?” she chuckled.
Before he could try and make an actual attempt at an escape, Dime stepped forward and wrapped her long, thin arms around him in a tight hugs, followed by a kiss to his cheek, “Happy Birthday, you old man.”
“Yes I did. Fifty is merely one more step to weak joints and sagging skin. We have standards as Washingtons. We’ll have that youthful glow which is a mix of melanin and keeping our hands clean when life gets hard. I was hoping to have a peaceful day without any mentions of fifty.” He wrapped his arms around his niece. As much as he complained, he appreciated all the love his family was giving him. Without them he wouldn’t be the man he is today. “I love you Diamond. Even if you are trying to stop me from running away.” he sighed. “Would you like to come with me? I am treating myself to a birthday present which has four legs and doesn’t meow.”
