i’m so excited the 1975 is back but it feels kinda bittersweet.

Ive been listening to them since self-titled came out, all because my dad bought me that record (my very first) that christmas. that’s what got me here today, almost 9 years later. i owe my love of this band to him, he was the one i discussed theories with during drops, listened to music with, and was the one adult in my life growing up who didn’t make me feel ashamed for being a hardcore fan.

now i sit here, with the box proudly tattooed on my arm, watching them start another album cycle and tomorrow will be three months without him.

i miss you dad.

when opening night for the show you’re helping run is the same day as state contest for chamber choir so your “hell weeks” as we call them, overlap and you haven’t slept in a week. and i have 2 tests the same day as opening night and state. woo

happy autism acceptance month!!! just a couple reminders:

-do not donate to autism speaks, as they are considered a hate group. if you’re looking to donate, autistic self advocacy network (asan) is a much better option! paige layle on tiktok and youtube has amazing content explaining why if you’d like to know more!

-don’t “light it up blue” or use the puzzle piece symbol, as both were created and popularized by autism speaks, use a rainbow infinity symbol instead

-autism doesn’t need a “cure” nor will it ever have one. it’s a neurotype and can’t be changed, and it doesn’t need to.

-the spectrum isn’t a straight line, it’s more like a color palette. everyone on the spectrum needs help in different ways, and everyone is not “a little bit on the spectrum”.

-functioning labels are inherently harmful

-asperger’s syndrome is no longer a diagnosis, and it has a really messed up history. i won’t go into it, but it has a direct tie to the holocaust.

-self diagnosis after much research is usually considered valid, especially for women. most research on psychological disorders has been done on cishet white men, leading to their symptoms being what “qualifies” you for the disorder. when brain structure of those assigned men and women, on top of societal expectations that lead to behavioral differences, are very different. and healthcare in the U.S. particularly is very expensive, not everyone has access to a diagnosis.
