[đ] - the events were still fresh in his mind. but it seemed as if everyone else was more than willing to put it all behind, willing to forgive and forget and move on. barry couldnât.Â
there was nothing to be gained by doing this. why kick a man down when heâs already on the ground, already lost a war that happened long ago. the right thing to do would be call the police, a man named looker as barry dimly recalls, but he couldnât do it. not to volkner.
the blurry world around him was more vibrant than usual, but not in a pleasant way. the only thing clear was the sight of a door, and he banged on it, with all his strength- as if doing so would chase away all the burning hate for saturn, the betrayal from the gym leader, and the muted feeling of⌠despair?
how could volkner do this? why? what did the blond man see in ANY of these former galactics that was worth forgiveness. barryâs face was blank, looking much like the human version of the calm before the storm. impatient. brewing. steady.
barryâs eyes flashed blue for the briefest of moments and he almost recoiled from the blow of despair coming from saturn. he hadnât felt anything like it. this personâŚmight as well be a dead man walking; or, at least, thatâs what barry saw.
 â ăťâĽâŚ â you- what. â ăťâĽâŚââââ
this? this hallow of a man was once a feared member? hair like an abandoned birdâs nest, and eyes that glazed over with nothingness⌠barry gritted his teeth and looked down, his knuckles turning white as he tried to control his bubbling anger. so thatâs why volkner took him in.Â
â ăťâĽâŚ â do you think this is a joke? who said you could look like that! â ăťâĽâŚââââ
a nonsensical question. but it was all he could manage without blowing up.  â so what so what so what â   , the two words kept replaying in his mind as barry waited for saturn to,-  â ăťâĽâŚ âsay something already!â ăťâĽâŚââââ his head snapped up and he glared at the other, even stepping closer to block the door- as if he was scared of saturn slipping away.
The kid doesnât look so committed once theyâre face to face. It's not that heâs any less angry, judging by the clenched fists, but more like heâs been met with the unexpected--- which has left his resolve wavering. Saturn isnât sure what to make of it just yet ( considering heâs dissociating and all ) but something has Barry shocked and at a loss for words.
What he eventually goes on to say brings Saturn slowly back to the present. He blinks. Thatâs cheap, to go straight for his appearance. What does it matter anyway? Were they supposed to predict the circumstances of this visit and spruce up just for him? ... But thatâs probably not what Barry meant.
Coming all the way here with such ferocity, probably ready to talk Saturnâs ear off and rough him up for everything heâs done, only to find this pathetic shell of a person instead... Is thatâs why heâs hesitating?
You canât push someone down further than rock bottom and Saturnâs been there for a long time. Thatâs not to say someone couldnât try but itâs not as easy to call that âheroicâ.
  âSay something already!â Fine, fine...
âWhatâs a joke? ... Am I laughing?â The sarcasm is evident, along with some genuine confusion. âI donât know what you want me to say. Youâre the one who came to me.â The blond boy makes the effort of blocking the door, as if they were going to shut it and avoid the entire interaction. Well, theyâd be lying if they said they didnât consider doing that.
Saturn sighs deeply as they comb their fingers through their hair, only to get them stuck in the tangles and eventually give up.
âBut as long as youâre giving me this opening... How did you know I was here? And what do you want?
Canât a guy rot away in peace---?â
