This project documents the experience of gender non-conforming and transgender biological boys at an annual weekend family camp. Camp You Are You (whose name has been changed to protect the privacy of the participants) offers a temporary safe haven where gender-variant boys can freely express their interpretations of femininity alongside their parents and siblings. These images represent the spirit of the children as they shine in an atmoshpere of support. Here they can be true to their inner nature without feeling the need to look over their shoulders. 

We at Crossing Over are thrilled to hear that such an important place exists for these boys.

The Struggle Against Transgender Discrimination: Watch Video and Help Rebecca Fight for Transgender Rights!

Rebecca Jurro, host of The Rebecca Jurro Show, was fired from her job because she was transgender.  In 2007, New Jersey passed a law banning discrimination against transgender people in the workplace.  However, Rebecca explains in the video that the law is poorly enforced, and people must keep fighting for what is right.  Watch this video, and help Rebecca spread her word!

"United by Love, Divided by Law" a story about true love and hardship

One couple, New Yorker Alison Medina and Brazilian Michele Castro were once separated by DOMA. However, they finally have the chance to live out their happy married lives in the USA thanks to the Supreme Court ruling on June 26, 2013 in the case of Windsor V United States, which ruled DOMA to be unconstitutional.  Watch Jimmy Chalk's video, "United by Love, Divided by Law" to view a snippet of this courageous couple's fight for true love.

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. The Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence that year and began an important memorial that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.

"The Transgender Day of Remembrance seeks to highlight the losses we face due to anti-transgender bigotry and violence. I am no stranger to the need to fight for our rights, and the right to simply exist is first and foremost. With so many seeking to erase transgender people -- sometimes in the most brutal ways possible -- it is vitally important that those we lose are remembered, and that we continue to fight for justice." - Transgender Day of Remembrance founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith

Participate in the Transgender Day of Remembrance by attending or organizing a vigil on November 20 to honor all those whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence.
