Actual answer: the sheep know the dogs are not sheep, and they also know the dog is protecting them and take their cues from the dog about whether they need to run for the barn or can just ignore anything scary that approaches.

However, a friend once had an extremely premature orphan lamb born in December who had to live in the house for a couple of months with leg braces and all that, who due to spending her lambhood with dogs instead of sheep came out of the whole experience convinced she was a livestock guardian dog! She would patrol the perimeter of the fields every evening with the actual dog, stand watch in the barn door at night like the dog, and was more than willing to throw down if she saw something scary coming towards the flock the way the guard dog did. Tragically orphaned lamb did a convincing job at being a guard dog without actually having any of the biological advantages a dog has over a sheep.

Which I suppose made her Sheep Batman.

I'm rewatching the PJO show and there are some changes from the book that I loved (like Sally being the one telling Percy he's a demigod), some I don't mind and one in particular that I really dislike. And they change I don't like is-- Gabe as a whole. Here he's an asshole. Just an asshole.

Book Gabe wasn't just an asshole and an idiot. He was a monster. An abusive piece of shit. Both Percy and Sally were abuse victim in the book. Sanitizing that storyline and watering Gabe to just an idiot was not something I liked because apparently showing domestic violence victims is too much and too dark for kids in this era, when that's a problem thousands of children and their mothers go through daily. The one change I can't stand

the thing is that he's still IMPLIED to be a monster. he does the same things he does in the books, the only difference is we dont have percy's inner monologue telling us things he did in the past. but he still acts like any abusive guy i know

i was raised in an abusive house (my father being the abusive one until my mom left him) and let me tell you he acts REALLY SIMILAR to gabe in the show. he would stand over us to intimidate us, not work at all and just gamble my mom's money, yell, belittle us (especially my older brother), and all the things gabe did in the show. he may have seemed like "just an asshole", but thats what abusers often seem like to an outside perspective (and why a lot of abuse victims get pushed aside)

he may not be shown to be explicitly physically abusive, but he very obviously is verbally, emotionally, and financially, something that is glossed over so much more and can honestly at times be WORSE.

i honestly really like that gabe is like that in the show, because a lot of abusers are like that. it may not be the obvious, everyone-can-tell-youre-being-abused physical, but it's STILL ABUSE. it's just a lot harder to tell if you dont know what youre looking for
