This is a page and cover from StarBrand and NightMask #1 a marvel comic. I'm throughly impressed with the entire book especially this page. Let me tell you why. StarBrand (the blonde kid) is utterly MESMERIZED by this girl he just met. Hasn't even heard a SINGLE WORD come out of her mouth and he's experiencing what could only be considered love at first sight. The writer gets big points for the main love interest being a woman of color who are constantly represented as less attractive compared to white women. But here's StarBrand, the human embodiment of Earths Planetary Defense System who possesses INFINITE POWER limited only by his imagination, confessing his love for a woman of color. And she's not just any girl either. She is disabled with an injured leg as well as missing an eye. Things that would generally be looked at as imperfections, were FEATURES OF THE WOMEN THAT THIS ALL POWERFUL BEING FOUND BEAUTIFUL ENOUGH TO FALL IN LOVE WITH INSTANTLY. And it's not like she's some damsel in distress either. They meet at his college dorm and SHE'S HIS RA! As in SHE HAS AUTHORITY OVER HIM AND THE REST OF THE RESIDENTS. AND THIS WAS ALL IN BOOK #1 Well done marvel.

He placed one last kiss on the fullness of her lips before pulling her into his chest and shifting so his body was half beneath hers. “I could stay like this with you for days,” he murmured into her curls.

She chuckled lightly. “Cheesy.” She reached up and ran a finger along his jaw then down his upper body, relishing in the shiver she felt run through him despite the fact that they were both still quite warm. “I’m sure your regulars would miss their latte art, and the world would collapse without me because of the whole ‘Being A God’ thing so…not an option.”

“Is it not though?” He pulled away from her slightly, just enough to enable him to look her in the eyes. “You’re telling me you haven’t thought about staying with me?”

Her brow creased with confusion. “Staying…” Suddenly her eyes widened. “You mean staying here?” She gestured wildly with one hand. “On the surface? As a mortal?” 

A pause. “Well, yeah.”

She let loose a burst of wild laughter that felt highly inappropriate for the setting (his bedroom, in his bed) and the amount of clothing both of them were wearing (none). “Oh my gods. Ohhhh my gods. You actually think,” she struggled to take a breath between her laughter and her words, “that I would give up immortality…fucking IMMORTALITY…to live as a tiny human?” She snorted. “With YOU?”

If he looked hurt at her words, she took no notice. “I’m a fucking GOD,” she howled. It felt like an hour, but maybe it was just one minute, before she took a couple deep breaths. “Can you imagine if I’d become human to live with you and then you like, got hit by a car or something stupid the next day?” At this she burst into another raucous peal of laughter and positively screamed, “YOU’D BE DEAD AND I’D BE MORTAL FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. FUCK NO. Oh my god, I’m gonna pee. I’m gonna pee.” She slipped out of the bed, completely oblivious to the look of utter embarrassment and horror on his face. “I’ll be right back.”

She walked out the room clutching her stomach and taking deep breaths as she stepped into the bathroom adjacent his bedroom and closed the door. Not ten seconds of silence had passed before he heard her laughter ricocheting off the tiled walls, and started to believe she’d been right in saying no Hell could be worse than what he’d experience here on Earth.
