bj had just blown into town, she set up camp in a spot that seemed to be ‘free property’ just to last until the town’s campsite has an open plot. though she was tired from a long, hot day of untying and unpacking everything, settling in and figuring out her next moves - the blonde kind of wanted to explore her new hometown. so, she settled on taking her bike down the road to explore a bit more, opting to go into sparky’s upon sight. now that, was where she’d find good conversation. as bj made a b-line to the bar, spinning the chair slightly as she sat, “did i scare you? usually, i’m one to make a boisterous entrance, i’ll try better next time.” she joked. “i’ll take whatever you recommend, so, the fries and bartenders’ choice drink? oh, the stronger the better !” she grins, leaning on the bar. “ i travel, so,  i got this lil game i play whenever go somewhere new, i live off of recommendations. at least, for a while. i’m not picky at all, so, it’s always fun.”  

Aidan grins at the bubbly blonde seated in front of her. “I’m sure your entrance was perfect, I was just too in my own world to enjoy it,” she jokes back. She’s never seen the woman around town before, but that fact is quickly explained when she mentions she travels. “Sounds like a high risk but potentially high reward game?” She chuckles and moves to put in the order of fries into the kitchen. “What’s the best recommendation you’ve gotten? Oo! And where were you when you got it?” 

The bartender starts working on a drink that she feels fits the woman’s vibe, and makes sure to meet her one request, the stronger the better. Aidan loves experimenting with new drinks, and her fave for the beginning of this summer has been trying out new frozen drinks. The one she’s whipping together now was tested and eagerly approved by a group of friends who have more of a taste for alcohol than she does. “Tequila sunrise slushie?” Aidan says with a hopeful raise of her eyebrows as she sets the drink (garnished with a pink paper umbrella) down in front of the other woman.

It’s taken CJ two weeks to get situated and into a routine she could be proud of. Though Sparky’s bar had seemed enticing the moment she landed in Wellcliff, she knew the biggest lesson she’d have to learn this summer was self control and moderation.

So, with CJ’s room fully unpacked, a job secured and protein shake downed, she finally treats herself to a cold beer and — “Some fries,” the woman’s chuckle is contagious, and she offers a laugh in return too, taking her seat right in front, lifting her arms up to reveal a tiny, rainbow string bracelet on her wrist. “And a corona,” she takes a chance, “Plus something your boss lets you drink on the job.” 

The blonde’s sudden appearance in front of Aidan is jarring enough, nevermind the fact that she’s also gorgeous and has a contagious smile that literally lights up the dim bar. She’s either a tourist or new to the town, the bartender decides, because there’s no way she’s been in Wellcliff long and not caught Aidan’s attention. “You’ve got it,” she replies with a grin, eyes flickering down to the rainbow at the customer’s wrist that confirms what her vibes already hinted at. 

Aidan turns to call in the order of fries to the kitchen before grabbing two bottles of corona, cracking them open, and wedging a lime on the top. “Cheers,” she says, setting the bottle down in front of the woman and holding up her own to clink them together. She takes a swig of the beer and leans her hip against the bar. “So, what brings you to little ole Wellcliff? I’ve never seen you around before.”

Tapping the person sitting beside her on the shoulder, she grins. Holding up a melting s’more, she offers it up with a small gesture. “I made too many.” she says, motioning towards her plate piled high with s’mores. “My eyes were bigger than my stomach.” she adds, wide smile still evident on her face.

Aidan stares up at the stars, thanking whatever higher power is out there that the bonfire landed on such a beautifully clear night; being able to stargaze is definitely a cherry on top of the summer festivity. Her eyes are pulled down to the person sitting beside her, though, when she feels a tap on her shoulder. “Damn, those look amazing,” she gushes, taking the s’more that’s being offered out to her. “Thank you so much. I never turn down food.” She laughs to herself before taking a big bite, careful as possible to not make a complete mess. “Mm, perfect. Have you ever considered being a professional s’more-maker?”

There’s a long list of things Aidan loves about her job at Sparky’s--the laidback environment, picking up on all the town gossip, getting to give entitled drunk men a piece of her mind when necessary--the list goes on. But probably her favorite thing is getting the cooks to give her baskets of delicious, perfectly golden french fries to eat behind the bar practically every shift. It may seem like a small thing, but she’s tried many a french fry in her day, and none of them compare to Sparky’s. It’s a weekday and still pretty early, so the bar is slow except for a few regulars who are already taken care of, and Aidan finds herself munching on the fried delicacy while queueing up some songs for the night. She’s so distracted by the taste and the music that she doesn’t realize the person walking into the bar until they’re seated right in front of her. “Oh sh--,” the bartender starts, swallowing and standing up straight from her position leaning against the bar. “Sorry, didn’t hear you come in.” She chuckles to herself and runs a hand through her short hair. “Can I get you started with something? I can definitely recommend the fries.”

[chyler leigh, cis female, she/her] have you seen AIDAN THOMPSON hanging around? the THIRTY FOUR year old often hangs around THE BOARDWALK when they’re not being a BARTENDER at SPARKY’S PUB. i’ve been told they’re LAIDBACK but FLIPPANT, and when i look at them, i see LEATHER JACKETS, LAZY MORNINGS IN SWEATPANTS, and STARGAZING ON THE BEACH. wellcliff wouldn’t be the same without ‘em! aidan thompson has hardly ever known a life outside of wellcliff. it’s where she was born and raised, only ever leaving when she went off to college in boston.

she’s the older sister to a set of twins, a brother and sister, who are 28.

growing up, aidan was super shy and anxious, but she had a core group of friends from elementary school that stuck all through high school. when aidan came out as a lesbian her senior year, her friends were pretty supportive, but they kind of lost touch after parting ways for college.

her parents weren’t so supportive, though. aidan was never really close to her parents, but since she told them she was a lesbian before leaving for college, their relationship has been even more distant.

with that in mind, aidan can’t really explain why she moved back to her hometown after college (in her own apartment, though, definitely not with her parents). maybe a sense of nostalgia, or a fear of the unknown...or maybe just that there’s nothing she really wanted to do with her degree, and how she really loved working the bar at sparky’s over the summers. so since graduating, that’s where she’s been.

college was pretty transformative for aidan, though. school was boring to her, but she graduated with a degree in sociology, ‘cause she found it interesting enough. she really only went to college to appease her parents, and to get out of the small town to find herself--and she did. she made a group of lgbt best friends and found her true love, marijuana, both of which helped her get over the shyness and anxiety that had burdened her so much thus far. the self-confidence she left with was definitely more important than her degree.

she loves her job at the bar, loves joking around with all the regulars and the fact that she can just have a good time--especially when someone who she’s able to flirt a little with comes in.

some bonus facts

aidan is a lesbian first and foremost. her lesbian identity and community is one of the most important things to her (and it’s something she misses about college)

she’s pretty much always at least a lil stoned

people say it’s ironic that she’s a bartender but doesn’t really like alcohol much (besides beer and the occasional glass of red wine)

she loves space and the stars, and is super interested in astrology (sagittarius sun, taurus moon, scorpio rising)

she’s not great at opening up about her emotions because that’s not how she was raised–but she will open up once she feels comfortable enough

she’s very goofy and loves to laugh; her mission in life is to have as much fun as possible pretty much.

she wears sweatpants pretty much whenever she can and loves being comfy and cozy

she loves playing video games and listening to music

she has always loved skateboarding (though she worries sometimes that she’s too old for it now)
