Izuku isn't sure how it happened.
One minute he's walking in the shopping district, then in the blink of an eye, he's less than a foot tall with fur all over his body.
He's been transformed into a bunny!
The girl who bumped into him panics and runs off. Somehow, instinctively, Izuku's bunny body knows how to move around and hop. He chases after her for a little while, but in the end, he loses sight of her in the crowds because someone picks him up off the ground.
Someone with gentle hands and aggressive red eyes.
"Kacchan!" Izuku cries, but his voice comes out as a quiet squeak.
"Who left their damn pet running around in the open like this?" Kacchan grumbles, turning Izuku around this way and that. "Especially near the street on a busy day like this. You could've gotten hurt..."
Izuku frantically flails his paws and kicks his hind legs, desperately trying to signal to Kacchan that it's him. But he freezes when Kacchan holds him close to his chest, gently petting Izuku's fuzzy forehead.
"Stop freaking out," Kacchan says, looking down at him with the tiniest of smiles. "I'll find your shitty owner, don't worry."
Kacchan? Being nice to him? With that soft look on his face? Izuku must be dreaming.
Todoroki and Kaminari catch up to Kacchan and immediately take notice of the bunny in Kacchan's arms.
Kaminari coos, leaning in close to Izuku. "Aw, who's this little guy?"
"Found him scurrying around in the crowd," Kacchan grumbles, back to his old aggressive self. "Fucker would've gotten crushed if I hadn't picked him up."
"Cute," Todoroki murmurs. He reaches a hand out to pet Izuku, but Kacchan turns his back on Todoroki, glaring at him.
"Don't touch him!" Kacchan snaps. "It's probably scared because of all the unfamiliar faces."
Kaminari grins, grabbing Kacchan's shoulder. "Awww, you just want the cute bunny all to yourself. You don't have to be shy, Kacchan."
He says Kacchan's name teasingly. Kacchan shakes him off, kicking him in the leg.
"Ow! C'mon, man!"
Todoroki checks his phone. "We were supposed to meet up here after an hour, but Midoriya's running late."
"Oh, yeah," Kaminari says, leaning over to check the time on Todoroki's phone. "Text him."
"I did earlier," Todoroki replies. "He read the message but hasn't responded."
"That's weird."
Izuku had been walking around while looking at his phone. That's probably why he bumped into that girl in the first place. If Kacchan knew what happened, he would scold Izuku for sure. If only Izuku could speak up...
Katsuki stays silent throughout the whole conversation, his expression remaining the same. But then, Izuku feels Kacchan's grip tighten around him, clutching him closer to his chest. Loudly, Katsuki says, "Shitnerd probably got too excited about some dumb merch and lost track of time. We should look for him."
Is Kacchan...worried about him?
No. Izuku shakes his head. There's no way.
"It's only been ten minutes though..." Kaminari says.
"I'll try calling him first," Todoroki says. He dials Izuku's number, and the three of them jolt when they hear Izuku's ringtone in the distance. The three of them follow the sound, then stop in front of a pile of clothes on the ground, with Izuku's phone buzzing next to them. Todoroki picks up Izuku's phone. "What...?"
"No way..." Kaminari whispers, shocked. "Midoriya's running around naked?!"
"No, you dumbass!" Kacchan yells. "Something obviously happened!"
"I know that!" Kaminari shouts back. "I was just trying to lighten the mood."
Todoroki stares blankly at the clothes. "Midoriya..."
Izuku squirms in Kacchan's grip, trying to jump down to the clothes so he can give them a sign that he's been transformed. But Kacchan holds onto him firmly, making it impossible for him to break free.
"Was he transformed somehow?" Kaminari asks.
"Unlikely," Todoroki replies. "Quirks that can transform others are extremely rare."
Kacchan stays silent, squatting down. He shifts his grip so that Izuku is tucked against his body with one arm. Then, with his free hand, he checks the pockets of Izuku's pants, grabbing his keys and wallet. He opens the wallet, showing off the money inside to Todoroki and Kaminari.
"The money is still here which means he wasn't robbed," Kacchan says. "His ID and other shit are still in there too."
"We should call Aizawa and the police," Todoroki says.
"On it," Kaminari replies.
Kacchan tucks Izuku's wallet and keys into his own pockets, frowning down at the ground. Izuku catches a glimpse of his own reflection in a nearby shop window. His fur is a rich viridian, and his eyes are a dark, dark green that looks almost black. In their scientifically advanced quirk society, pets with uniquely colored fur weren't uncommon. That means that Izuku seems like any other normal bunny, which means there's zero chance they would question his appearance.
Izuku slumps in Katsuki's arms, defeated. The three of them spend the rest of the afternoon contacting Aizawa and searching for Izuku until the police arrive. Dusk falls over the city, golden orange sunlight melting across the sky into a deep midnight blue. The four of them arrive at Heights Alliance much later than they anticipated, with Class 1-A waiting for them in the common area of the dorms. The disappointment and concern is evident on their faces.
"Couldn't find him, huh?" Kirishima says.
"Aizawa-sensei told us to leave it with the police and sent us back to the dorms," Todoroki says.
"Let's save our energy for tomorrow," Uraraka says with a determined look on her face. "We can all search for him together—"
"If Aizawa-sensei permits it," Iida interjects, chopping the air once.
Satou walks over from the kitchen, holding out a plate. "I made mini cheesecakes for everyone."
Kacchan lingers in the corner of the room, his back towards the rest of the class, clearly clutching something close to his chest.
Mina approaches him, peering over his shoulder. "Hey, what're you holding—?"
Kacchan turns around, trying to keep whatever he's clutching under his shirt hidden. "Fuck off!"
Izuku wiggles around in Kacchan's shirt, wriggling out of his grasp and popping his head out above the collar of Kacchan's shirt.
Hagakure gasps. "Is that a bunny?!"
The others crowd around Kacchan, trying to look and reach out. Mina coos, "Can we pet him?"
Kacchan snarls, leaning away from them. "No!"
Izuku tries to look around the room, searching for Koda. But he can't seem to see him anywhere amongst the faces of his classmates. Then he remembers—Koda had already left to go on a family trip for spring break. So Izuku's going to be stuck like this indefinitely over the break.
His classmates' voices clamor around him, growing louder and overlapping one another. The sound is overwhelming, grating against Izuku's sensitive bunny ears. Izuku trembles instinctively, squeezing his eyes shut and trying to pull his ears down with his paws. He's unable to grab onto his ears though, so it ends up awkwardly patting his head rapidly, as if he has an itch.
Kacchan walks away from them, grumbling, "Don't follow me."
In the hallway, the silence is a relief for Izuku. Gently, Kacchan scratches Izuku's head with two fingers as he walks to the elevator. Izuku melts at the sensation, then freezes when he remembers he's still inside Katsuki's shirt—
And he's pushed right against Kacchan's bare pecs.
Slowly, Izuku presses a paw into one of Kacchan's firm pecs, his paw sinking into the skin.
Squishy.
If Izuku was still human, he'd be blushing furiously.
"Not comfortable enough for you?" Katsuki says as he steps out of the elevator. He walks to his bedroom, locking the door behind him. Gently, he pulls Izuku out of his shirt, setting him down onto the ground.
And then, Izuku's heart jumps out of his chest when Katsuki starts stripping.
Izuku internally screams when Kacchan takes off his t-shirt, and then the long-sleeved shirt that was layered underneath, exposing the entire top half of his muscular body.
Izuku hops over to him, pawing frantically at his leg. Kacchan glances down at him, unbuckling the belt on his jeans. "Calm down, I'll play with you in a minute. I gotta change first. Clingy shithead."
Kacchan's pants fall to the ground, and Izuku's soul practically leaves his body. Kacchan kicks off his jeans and walks over to the dresser, searching for something to wear. Torn between hiding or looking, Izuku covers his eyes with his little bunny paws, but finds himself moving his paws slightly away, peeking at Kacchan's gorgeous body.
Izuku tries to ignore the feeling of disappointment inside him when Kacchan finally finds something to wear. He slips into a black tank top and sweats, then picks Izuku up off the ground. Kacchan lays down on his bed, resting Izuku on his chest. He brushes his knuckles across Izuku's cheek, and Izuku tilts his head to nuzzle into Kacchan's hand.
"I wonder if you have an owner," Kacchan says. "None of the pet shops I went to seemed to recognize you."
"Because it's me, Kacchan. I'm not a rabbit," Izuku tries to say, but no sound comes out. So he just rubs his cheek against Kacchan's hand even more.
"I'll keep searching for your damn owner tomorrow," Kacchan says, stroking his thumb across Izuku's fur. "But if they turn out to be a piece of shit, I'm keeping you for myself! You got that?!"
If only he knew it was Izuku on his chest and not an actual bunny. He probably wouldn't be saying such sweet things to him.
"I'll keep searching for that shitty Izuku too," Kacchan grumbles. "That damn nerd is always getting himself into pointless trouble. He better not be dead in an alleyway somewhere..."
"I'm right here, Kacchan, don't worry," Izuku squeaks, pressing a paw to Kacchan's heart.
Kacchan picks up Izuku's paw off of his chest, wiggling it around. "Would it kill him to be more careful? Idiot doesn't even realize how much he worries me."
Izuku's ears perk up.
Kacchan worries about me? Izuku thinks to himself.
"He's always fucking up that body of his with One For All," Kacchan continues, "and acting like he can do everything on his own. When will he learn to ask for help properly?"
He pauses, squeezing Izuku's paw between his forefinger and thumb.
"I wonder if that's my fault."
Izuku's heart melts inside his chest, guilt gnawing at his stomach. He knew his relationship with Kacchan had improved greatly, but he never would've thought Kacchan showed this much concern for his well-being, to the point where he blamed himself for Izuku's tendencies. Izuku wishes he could tell Kacchan to cheer up.
"I want to make it up to him," Kacchan murmurs, red eyes somber. "I wish I could tell him how much I love him, but I know I don't deserve it. It's not fair to him to be selfish."
Wait, did Kacchan just say he loves Izuku—?!
Before Izuku can process or react or even blink, Kacchan holds him up with two hands, grinning his regular ol' feral smile.
"But I don't have to worry about you, right?" Kacchan says, bringing Izuku close to his face. "I can be as selfish as I want!"
Softly, he pecks Izuku on the nose, and suddenly, Izuku is looming above Kacchan on the bed, back to his human form.
Completely naked.
With his lips pressed against Kacchan's lips.
They stare at each other, frozen in shock, eyes wide open.
And then Kacchan is shoving Izuku off of him, scrambling backwards onto the bed. "What the fuck?!"
Izuku stands up quickly, a little dizzy from the sudden transformation and adjusting to his real body. "Kacchan, you—! Oof!"
Kacchan catapults a pillow straight into Izuku's dick. "Cover yourself!"
"R-Right!" Izuku yelps, clutching it close to his crotch. They both gawk at each other for a moment, reeling from everything that's happened in the past couple of minutes. Izuku's head is still spinning from the confession and kiss—
Kiss.
"You kissed me!" Izuku shouts, blushing. "And you said you loved me!"
Kacchan flushes red, shouting back, "You were a bunny! That doesn't count!"
Izuku steps forward, his heart pounding inside his chest. "But you meant what you said, right?!"
Flustered, Kacchan struggles to come up with an excuse. "That-That wasn't—That didn't—It didn't mean anything—"
"Don't lie!" Izuku rests one knee on the bed, getting closer to Kacchan, who's curled up against the headboard of the bed with his knees close to his chest. Izuku leans over him, gripping the top of the headboard with both hands, caging Kacchan in with his muscular arms. "Did you really mean it?"
The excuses, the denial, all semblance of logic and reason—they dry up in Kacchan's throat as his eyes flicker between Izuku's face and the rest of his body. "The—You forgot the pillow—"
Izuku doesn't have enough rationale left to care about that. His brain is still a little fried from the transformation and the crazy, infinitesimal chance that his feelings might not be unrequited. He leans in close, their noses centimeters apart, gazing deeply into Kacchan's eyes. "I love you, Kacchan."
He leans in, pressing his lips to Kacchan's mouth. The kiss is gentle and soft at first, sweeter than cotton candy and warm, like honey. Kacchan grasps at Izuku's biceps and Izuku's hands slide down to rest on Kacchan's back, pulling their bodies close together. When they finally part, Izuku rests his forehead against Kacchan's.
"Izuku, I'm sorry for—" Kacchan starts.
"I know," Izuku says, cutting him off. "You don't have to say it."
"Are you really okay with me?"
"Of course," Izuku says with a smile, kissing Kacchan's forehead. "You're my hero."
Kacchan's brow furrows. He whispers, "But I've hurt you before. What if I hurt you again?"
"You might hurt me"—Izuku places the palm of Kacchan's hand on his chest, over his heart, intertwining their fingers—"and I might hurt you, but we'll pull each other up when we fall down, right?"
Kacchan nods, and it feels like an oath, a promise for their future with each other to be brighter. "Right."
"Let's be together forever, Kacchan," Izuku murmurs, leaning in for another kiss. He pouts when Kacchan suddenly shoves him away.
