mizi having to objectify herself in zomst in comparison to fighting the objectification in alnst is fucking me up
the whole time i was watching, i just felt this horrible pit in my stomach. good job vivinos & team at making me feel like a gross, sweaty man looking at mizi's objectified and oversexualized body 😭
this is just my interpretation but I like to think that because of the time she's spent as an idol Mizi has gone completely blind to her surroundings. From the inside she lost hope after seeing how rot the industry is but was unable to leave. All she could do was blind herself to the truth.
Meanwhile Sua lost only part of her vision. She sees and is aware how disgusting and toxic everything is but she has turned a "blind eye" to it because of her desperation to be with Mizi.
And in the end, Mizi couldn't even see the person who has loved, and still loves her to the very end. Sua is the only one holding on.
small zombie stage meta:
is it too early to say that mizi killing the rat/her mother embracing her is very reminiscient of mizi's philosophy (of being the one to crush/be crushed) in alnst? in this case i think it could be her having an abusive parent/household (leaning towards her father but honestly her mother being abusive would be so fun considering the 1 frame we got) and then coping by lashing out against the rat. which COULD tie into her 'hurting/exploiting others as a coping mechanism' and 'evaluating others based on their capacity to hurt' theme that was present in alnst, and will probably be present again here
also, i think sua taking away mizi's cigarette/mizi slapping her for it is SUCH a wonderful representation of miscommunication happening in real time im so in awe. sua does it out of concern (please don't hurt yourself) but smoking is likely one of the only ways mizi could get out of the industry, so it's a chance for her to run away from the exploitation by ruining her own body. so for sua to take it away, it's almost as if she's saying 'you need to stay miserable for me'. at least, that's how i see it. given their other comics before, this seems on brand for mizisua
i also think it's so neat that ALIEN stage specifically denies the spectators humanity, therefore enabling it to balance both colonialism/imperialism and exploitation in the idol industry, while ZOMBIE stage dehumanises the performers, shifting the focus onto the performers who can only perform on stage because they're zombies. it's the other side of the coin!! can't wait to see how they'll tackle the 'disqualification' of humanity that idols experience :3
Zombie Stage is so good because I feel like hivemind infected zombie body horror is a much more effective medium than "space alien eugenics cult" for criticizing the Korean entertainment industry, the gross fetishization and medicalization of Asian women, and beauty as capital in a consumerist society (literally: the scenes where idols have parts of their body auctioned?? sold?? as consumer products!!).
In particular, I think Mizisua (esp. Mizi) can be more effectively utilized by the narrative, because they are not just women being sexualized for entertainment, but *lesbians* who must perform heteronormativity for their audience, causing a split between public and private selfhood. The cost of sacrificing your lesbian identity to become more palatable...taking into consideration the rampant sexism and homophobia around the idol industry too.
The epistemic and systemic violence committed upon them is made visible on their bodies. Mizi's zombie design choices are so fucking impactful: we get close-ups of her chest and other areas of her body, while dehumanizing her by removing her eyes and face (probably sold, like the other idols?); she is even tied and brutalized in one scene. Symbolically, Mizi becomes a faceless, oversexualized doll-like commodity for a leering male audience. There are several shots directly reminsicent of Mima from Perfect Blue.
[ Note: The male zombie following Mizi, Sua discovering her brutalized body in a dark alley, the Perfect Blue references etc, all seem to point towards the imagery of sexual violence. Once again, keep in mind that this is not altogether uncommon in the K-entertainment industry. ]
Also, this mv seems to strongly imply that Mizi used to be more tomboyish and masc-presenting, before the desire for heteronormative approval (as embodied by the idol industry) made her conform to a super feminine presentation. I've always loved the butch Mizi headcanon and it's fantastic to see that confirmed in a way.
Anyway, I was one of those people who never really had strong feelings for Mizisua back in the day, mainly because I was tired of the incessant moralizing by their fans when the earlier episodes of Alien Stage were airing. I began to love them a lot more after the discourse™ started, because I like my yuri toxic, and generally despise when gay or het couples can be granted emotional complexity, but lesbians must be bland cottagecore healthy Barbies lmao. It was True Face and Fragile God comics + Karma MV that actually made me enjoy their dynamic.
It's refreshing to see how explicitly complicated and toxic their dynamic is in this version of their story; the MV is from Sua's POV and I thought her decision to get infected and live in this purgatory-like hellscape with Mizi instead of letting the latter pass peacefully was kind of, well, Obsession 2026 coded. All in all I'm definitely invested in Mizisua now–I've always said Vivinos is best at unsettlingly eroticized horror with queer themes, and I'm excited to see how this plays out!
With Hyuna working to burn the stage all to the ground instead of working for a new potential future and with Sua’s conflict of making Mizi live forever with her instead of dying herself because she physically cannot let go; I think it’s safe to say that zombie stage is about taking the INVERSE of the main conflicts.
It’s pleasantly surprising not only for plot but for characterization because that means then we’re exploring the darker sides of these character’s personalities —more accurately—the specific ways in which humans can act so utterly inhumane for love to the point where they evolve into something monstrous (hence the zombies).
If alien stage is about how there is inherent qualities of goodness, redemption, and above all, love, even in an environment which was deprived of all moral standing to create it, then zombie stage is the opposite.
It’s going to explore exactly what mizi said in the end: that humans cannot love without exploiting.
Humans in a modern setting, with raised in a “regular” world environment, and thus have a better standing of what is right and wrong. That is until, they are placed within a survival circumstance which thus causes them to completely and entirely disregard that.
And this only then makes me wonder, what will the paralleled endings look like if that be the case? That these characters might do the exact opposite of their moral standings in alstg?
I’m excited
#/im so sorry if this makes no sense or it’s just so painfully painfully obvious im so sleep deprived im moving countries rn please dont judge me I just think its cool n i

"Bakugou will probably be the one coming after our flag," Todoroki says. "If it looks like we're about to lose, you should distract him, Midoriya."
That jolts Izuku out of his muttering. He looks up at the rest of them, confused. "How?"
"Pretend to break up with him," Iida says flatly.
"Tell him you're pregnant," Todoroki deadpans.
"Seduce him!" Uraraka says, grinning.
This is going to be a disaster.

A Wish for the New Year
✧ ships: bakugou katsuki/midoriya izuku
✧ summary: Izuku and Katsuki head home after a New Year's Eve party with the rest of their old classmates. Izuku tells Katsuki how grateful he is for their relationship, to the point that even if they broke up, Izuku would be happy they had these past few years together at the very least. Katsuki, however, is not pleased by Izuku's choice of words and shuts that insecure attitude down immediately with a few choice words of his own.
✧ word count: ~750 words
✧ tags: sfw, fluff, established relationship, soft bakugou katsuki
The streets are silent at this time of night, the sky dark and uneven between the flurry of snowflakes rushing through in the air. The soft, golden glow of the streetlamps and twinkling fairy lights on trees and storefronts guide them through the night. It almost looks like the stars have fallen out of the sky and onto the Earth, like they're glimmering and shining just for the Izuku and Katsuki. It's beautiful, and the thought makes Izuku smile to himself.

i love fake plot holes
little inconsistencies that at first you assume "oh, the author must have fucked up", but then later on you realize that no, it was on purpose, they wanted you to think they fucked up but they hadnt
related: when you think "this has Implications the author didn't think about" and then it turns out the author was thinking about them the whole time
