"Oh yeah there was a shadow duel in the volcano....then more later on...how many duels have actually been fake than real is the real question here....UHHHH'"
It was just another thing that he wasn't able to experience with them, a twinge of guilt and upset coiled within his gut. He wouldn't dare call it jealousy. There was nothing to be jealous of. At least nothing reasonable.
...... But times like this, made him realize just how much the others saw him as an outsider. Not that he'd ever asked what had happened before he arrived at Duel Academia..... But he also felt like he couldn't.. The disdain on Sho's face, the way that even with the bridge built between himself and Judai's friend group, there was still a little gap left he couldn't quite hurdle himself over.
Like he'd stolen something from them.
But it'd always be erased before he could fully question if what he was seeing was true. But from the look on his family's face every time it happens- he might not be too far off the mark. Jesse never had seen himself as a competition against his other friends, there had just never been any opportunities to really get to know the others- or maybe he'd been blind to them. Too excited to have found a like-minded individual that he'd shut out the others in the throws of the moment without any real consideration.
Maybe that was his fault. Or at least partially so.
But he shook off the feeling regardless, his feelings about something that he himself needed to mend didn't need to fall onto Judai's shoulders so squarely. Or at all really. These were his demons to fight. Instead he takes Judai's hand and kisses the back of it.
"Shadow games." He repeats wistfully, "You all have had all four years of danger then." Part of his heart pangs in sympathy... Though the last comment strikes him as odd.
"Faux shadow duels............... You're not sure if they were real or not...?" he supposes... This isn't surprising. Considering most of Yugi Muto's adventures were held under lock and key, so if they existed back when he reigned supreme..... "..... I wonder if......" he trails off. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe there's no connection between the true Shadow duels and the Duel against Darkness that Judai had.........
... Yeah maybe it wasn't connected.
"I'm just glad you're still here and kicking despite it all." Jesse smiles softly. "You'll have to tell me about the copy of Ra. ... I assume the Volcano duel was more recently? So we'll skip that for now."
