The Wizard and I / Happy Birthday || nocturnalxfacade
Noticing the otherâs nervous disposition in avoiding eye contact and the question itself, a soft chuckle slipped from the blonde, although it was almost too quiet to hear. Although many would be expected to grow annoyed with Zexionâs stubborn reluctance to accept something so similar after so long, that wasnât the case with Demyx. In a way the otherâs attitude only worked to draw the elder to the shorter Slytherin even more so. Although he did not particularly like work, Zexion had become a challenge which was now undeniably appealing.Â
Smiling with soft amusement in aquamarine eyes, the blonde removed his thin arms from around the smaller frame in favour of retrieving the book once more. As he began to flick through the pages in search of another song, the same light amusement could be heard in his voice. âFine, but youâve got to answer the question after this one.â Even if he was not annoyed with the otherâs reluctance, Demyx still held desire for a clear answer to be given.Â
Glancing through the pages, the Slytherin was half tempted to sing a song about throwing caution to the wind and living life for the shear thrill of it, although there was a clear disdain for work held in the song also and he doubted that would go down well with Zexion. That had always been something he liked about the character Fiyero though, but it would be expose the other to that side of him too strongly, at least for now.
Instead, the teen selected a song from near the end of the musical, another intended as a duet, but its soft yet powerful nature was much more suited to his own voice. Demyx had never attempted to play that particular song however, so it made him nervous to play it now all of a sudden. Although his hands shook lightly as they hovered over the keys, once again his confidence rose as he actually began to play, his voice joining the soft melody just a few moments later. âIâm limited. Just look at me⊠Iâm limited. And just look at you, you can do all I couldnât do. Glinda, so now itâs up to you, for both of us. Now itâs up to you."Â
"Great, now you keep talking in lyrics", Zexion rolled his eyes, but a soft smile was tugging at his lips. "I almost regret getting you that book."
But the song did the trick. Zexion's voice was lighter than it had been moments earlier and he wasn't feeling so uncomfortable anymore. Nervous, yes, he doubted that feeling would be leaving any time soon if ever. But as he had hoped, Demyx's playing and singing had had a soothing effect on him. Zexion ran his fingertips over the white keys of the piano, careful not to press too hard. For few minutes the room was completely silent if one didn't count the soft sound of their breathing. Then Zexion took a deep breath, cobalt blue eyes fixed on his hands instead of Demyx.
"I do believe you. You've given me no reason not to, really." It was the complete opposite. Honestly, Zexion was astonished Demyx hadn't given up the chase yet. He had been purposefully difficult every step in the way, hiding himself behind walls and walls of insecurities. "I'm just not sure I understand why."
He brought his hands to his lap, grasping at his fingers and twisting them almost painfully. He could feel the heat rising to his cheeks and the way his face changed into a flustered expression as he stammered out one more confession. "I-I... You're an idiot, Demyx. And I don't get you at all. You keep doing things that catch me off-guard and I get uncomfortable, but-- But then you do things like this, and--", another twist of fingers, accompanied by a soft sigh, "I like you, you know. A lot. I like being kissed by you. No-not the first time, but just now... It was nice."
"But you must know that I haven't done anything like this before, with anyone. I don't understand anything. I've-- I've read things, but..." Zexion shrugged helplessly; nothing he had read had prepared him for this, or really explained anything he was feeling.
Zexion curled up on the bench, pulling his knees up to his chest and digging his heels on the edge of the bench. Admitting all those things to Demyx hadn't really made him feel better, or relieved, like he had hoped it would. He leaned his forehead against his knees as he hugged them closer to his body, turning to look at the blond Slytherin from the corner of his visible eye. It had been up to Zexion; now it was up to Demyx.
The war might be over, but a new one is just beginning.
Lord Voldemort is dead. His surviving supporters have been rounded up and thrown into Azkaban for life. The world seems peaceful and right again, but look closely. Not everything is as it seems.
The Ministry of Magic has been on high alert since Voldemortâs demise. After two gruesome wars and countless supporters of his Cause, they fear there may be vigilantes on the loose. In order to put a stop to a new reign of terror, the Ministry of Magic has begun instating brand new laws to assure that this does not happen again. However, with each passing day and each new law, it seems they are the only threat that has been oppressing their people. While everyone tries to recover from the war, a brand new war between total control and basic human freedoms begins to form. A rebellion will inevitably build, and not a single soul will be safe from the Ministry of Magic.
When you canât obey the law, will you rebel?

A small chuckle slipped from Demyxâs lips once again as he heard Zexionâs response. Although the smile refused to fade from his features, the blonde shook his head lightly and spoke after a brief pause, his words sounding with a teasing air rather than being entirely serious. âWell then I guess youâll just have to get used to it~â Of course, Demyx hoped the other would grow used to things over time, though there was no saying if he would, and the student did not want to appear as if he was forcing things upon Zexion. It hadnât ended well for either of them last time.Â
At the feeling of the slate haired Slytherin pulling away, the blonde slowly loosened his grip also, though he refused to let go of him entirely just yet. Zexion didnât seem to shown any signs of annoyance or discomfort at being held, so Demyx assumed it was okay for now at least.Â
For a few moments the blonde allowed the silence to go on between them, simply choosing to watch the otherâs nervous actions with a soft smile. However, as the silence prolonged, Demyx knew breaking the silence would be left to him, though how to do that left him feeling wary. He knew what he wanted to ask, though he doubted bringing up their earlier encounters would go well in the current situation. Nonetheless, before long he forced himself to speak his thoughts aloud, seeing no way of avoiding the question. âSo, do you believe me nowâŠ?â He muttered quietly, avoiding meeting the otherâs eyes.Â
Zexion worried his bottom lip between his teeth as he thought about his answer. He did believe Demyx. For a Slytherin, the blond was awfully sincere - or a really good actor. It was still possible this was some sort of joke or ploy considering their house. But even as he tried to convince himself that was the case, if only to save himself from possible embarrassment, Zexion couldn't really bring himself to believe Demyx would trick him. He had been genuinely pleased about the present, and for some ridiculous reason beyond him, seemed to care for Zexion.
Still, admitting it was a step too big for him, and he ended up shrugging awkwardly and avoiding Demyx's gaze. He couldn't look into those soft aquamarine eyes right now; he was unable to lie but also unable to tell the truth. Most inconvenient for a schemer like the slate-haired Slytherin boy. He wanted to tug at his bangs, but if he played with them too much Demyx would learn to recognise the nervous gesture, and Zexion didn't want to be that easy to read. The blond was too talented at that as it was.
Growing more uncomfortable by the minute and unable to reason with himself enough to calm down, Zexion decided that distraction was his best bet then. He coughed softly, trying to get his voice under control; it still came out a bit squeaky. "Could you play something else from the book? Another song you like, maybe?" It would give him a couple of minutes to think, and he would be lying if he said he wasn't pretty much enamoured with Demyx's voice. While the warm arms around him weren't that bad, it was something Zexion wasn't used to. The Slytherin's voice, however, was safe territory (almost anyway). Maybe it would help him relax enough to address the issue that clearly couldn't be avoided any longer.

Demyx had never really been one to question what he was doing, or even why he was doing it, but despite that it was rare that anything would ever stop him. Zexion really had been right when he accused the blonde of being impulsive. But what was life without taking a few risks every now and then? Surely it would not have been worth it to simply sit back and allow the slate haired Slytherin to distance himself as he so clearly desired. Or at least, it had been until now. Even so, Demyx did not question the events and instead was merely happy that things were turning out as he had hoped.Â
Hearing the sound of the otherâs snort, he could not hold back a full laugh in the place of his previous giggles, having never expected to hear such a sound from a student who always appeared to be highly composed (that is unless heâs being kissed by surprise). Nonetheless, it pleased Demyx to see there really was more to Zexion than meets the eye. Of course the blonde had always know that, it was simply a matter of the other allowing him to see that side of him, the side that was more relaxed and cheerful, rather than being intent on assessing everything that occurred.Â
After just a few moments the laughter died down from Demyx and his expression continued to warm as the head of slate hair rested against his shoulder. In silence, the blonde shook his head for a moment before lightly resting it against Zexionâs, subtly breathing in his scent deeply. A subconscious part of him was intent on memorising ever aspect of this particular birthday, even down to the light scent of book and fresh parchment that appeared to linger around Zexion.Â
Demyx remained like that in silence for a few moments, though when he did finally give a spoken response a smile could be heard in his tone of voice. âI wouldnât say itâs bizarre.â It was just another thing they disagreed on, but he doubted it would matter in the long run.Â
Zexion hummed softly in response. "I suppose it depends on the point of view", he said. Recalling his own birthday, the slate-haired Slytherin was glad he had been able to repay Demyx and make him this happy. The present itself hadn't been anything special, and even after the song he felt a bit awkward about buying it; Zexion felt like it was slightly presumptuous of him to buy a music sheet book for someone he didn't even know that well (despite living in the same dorm for years). He was immensely relieved it had worked out so well.
If this could be described as 'well'. Sure, it was nice right now, but Zexion knew the moment could be over at any second. He was so out of his comfort zone that he wasn't sure where his limits lay. On the other hand, he was content with the way things were, but on the other hand, he was nervous Demyx wasn't and that made Zexion want to run. Now, though, he didn't have a proper excuse to do so (last time Demyx had surprised him and he hadn't known how to react), so his manners won over his nerves. Tentatively he pulled away, not far, but so that they were barely touching anymore; Demyx's arms remaining loosely around him.
Not sure what to do with himself, Zexion stared at his hands and twisted his fingers in his lap. He flashed Demyx a brief, nervous smile before biting his lip and fixing his focus back into his fidgeting hands. He had no idea what was supposed to happen next. Honestly, the whole coming in here part hadn't been expected in the slightest. Something was supposed to happen next, though, and it was Demyx's move.
âNo.â
âBut itâs cute.âÂ
"I must disagree with your definition of cute."

Although he had been expecting (simply out of pure fear) Zexion to pull away from the kiss as he had done last time, it pleased the blonde greatly to find this was not the case. Lingering within the kiss also, Demyxâs long fingers continued to rest lightly against the otherâs cheek, thumb softly caressing the cheek in hopes of helping the other Slytherin to remain calm. Though, by the looks of things he wasnât having any trouble with that on his own.Â
Without breaking contact, Demyxâs other hand soon reached to wrap around Zexion as the hands were placed against his chest, holding the younger student in a strong yet gentle embrace. It was clear to the Slytherin that the object of his affection was willingly accepting the action this time around. Just that knowledge alone brought a smile to the older teenâs lips, though he could only hope that Zexion did not snap back to his usual demeanour once his mind caught up to what was happening.Â
After a few long moments, the blonde was the first to break the kiss, needing to release the breath he had been holding. Giving little to know thought to the action, Demyx kept his face close to Zexionâs, foreheads almost touching. Not knowing what to say, the only sound made by the teen was that of a clearly happy and excited giggle, one of which caused the blonde to blush when he realised the sound had come from himself.Â
Feeling the strong arms around himself, Zexion tried to recall the last time he had been held. It took him a while, and when he came across a memory, it was blurry and Zexion couldn't be sure it was a completely real one. He had been maybe five or six years old, and he had been running in the garden. Being as clumsy as many young children were when they were excited, he had stumbled on something - probably his own feet - and fallen to the ground, face first. His father had been at work, but his crying had caught his nanny's attention and she had rushed to his aid. She had hugged him and comforted him before healing the scratch on his cheek. It wasn't probably the first time it had happened, and definitely not the last, but soon Zexion had become uncomfortable with her fussing and by the time he was nine, he hadn't been hugged in ages.
He couldn't remember his father ever hugging him or holding him.
This was different though; he wasn't being fussed over, and Zexion had a feeling he could still pull away any moment he wanted to. He wasn't used to being held, but it wasn't as uncomfortable as he had thought he would expect. He had a feeling he should be more uncomfortable with this, but the embrace was gentle and Demyx was obviously happy, so Zexion didn't feel like having an identity crisis right then. He could worry about being comfortable and uncomfortable later.
Zexion let out a shaky breath when Demyx pulled away. He studied the blond's face, the smile on his lips and the odd warmth in the aquamarine eyes. His own eyes widened slightly in surprise when Demyx giggled, but then he snorted softly and leaned to rest his head against Demyx's shoulder, releasing a muffled laugh there.
"This is bizarre."
"..Wait.
'Zexy'?"
