The Wizard and I / Happy Birthday || nocturnalxfacade
"Great, now you keep talking in lyrics", Zexion rolled his eyes, but a soft smile was tugging at his lips. "I almost regret getting you that book."
But the song did the trick. Zexion’s voice was lighter than it had been moments earlier and he wasn’t feeling so uncomfortable anymore. Nervous, yes, he doubted that feeling would be leaving any time soon if ever. But as he had hoped, Demyx’s playing and singing had had a soothing effect on him. Zexion ran his fingertips over the white keys of the piano, careful not to press too hard. For few minutes the room was completely silent if one didn’t count the soft sound of their breathing. Then Zexion took a deep breath, cobalt blue eyes fixed on his hands instead of Demyx.
"I do believe you. You’ve given me no reason not to, really." It was the complete opposite. Honestly, Zexion was astonished Demyx hadn’t given up the chase yet. He had been purposefully difficult every step in the way, hiding himself behind walls and walls of insecurities. "I’m just not sure I understand why.”
He brought his hands to his lap, grasping at his fingers and twisting them almost painfully. He could feel the heat rising to his cheeks and the way his face changed into a flustered expression as he stammered out one more confession. “I-I… You’re an idiot, Demyx. And I don’t get you at all. You keep doing things that catch me off-guard and I get uncomfortable, but— But then you do things like this, and—”, another twist of fingers, accompanied by a soft sigh, “I like you, you know. A lot. I like being kissed by you. No-not the first time, but just now… It was nice.”
"But you must know that I haven’t done anything like this before, with anyone. I don’t understand anything. I’ve— I’ve read things, but…" Zexion shrugged helplessly; nothing he had read had prepared him for this, or really explained anything he was feeling.
Zexion curled up on the bench, pulling his knees up to his chest and digging his heels on the edge of the bench. Admitting all those things to Demyx hadn’t really made him feel better, or relieved, like he had hoped it would. He leaned his forehead against his knees as he hugged them closer to his body, turning to look at the blond Slytherin from the corner of his visible eye. It had been up to Zexion; now it was up to Demyx.
A soft smile never leaving his face, the blonde continued to play through the song, content with the apparent silence in the rest of the room. Although Demyx was able to play through the song with reasonable ease, it was clear --to his ear at least-- that he would still need much more practice before he would be able to play it well enough. He saw no need to make that comment aloud though, especially when Zexion seemed to already enjoy it as it was.
Hearing the slate haired Slytherin's comment caused Demyx to laugh softly though, his smile growing wider. "No you don't. If you regretted it you wouldn't have asked me to play again." Smirking a little, hints of a teasing tone could be heard in the blonde's voice.
A moment later the Slytherin felt silent however to listen to Zexion's explanation, glad to see he was going to choose to be open about what he was thinking after all. Remaining silent as he listened, gradually the teen's expression began to soften once more. Although he did not know what to say to everything that he had been told, the blonde hoped that what he was going to say would put Zexion at easy at least somewhat.
Pausing for a few moments to collect his thoughts, Demyx pulled his hand away from the piano where it had lingered on the keys after playing and replaced it instead lightly upon Zexion's shoulder. "As much as you might want to know why, there's not always a reason. Some things just are what they are. And..." Hesitating for a moment, the blonde's cheeks flushed a little as he continued, though he forced himself to continue, wanting to be as truthful as the other had been. "...Even if there is a reason, I don't know what that reason is. All I know is that I like you too. A lot."
For a number of seconds aquamarine eyes pulled away from Zexion's at hearing the other's confession and he continued without turning back to him. "Believe it or not, you're not the only one. There aren't that many openly gay students around here after all." Reaching up to rub the back of his head, Demyx tried to brush the thought off with a nervous chuckle. He may not have had much experience, but that fact had gotten him into some awkward situations before now.
Once the colour in his cheeks had died down, the taller turned back to the other and spoke in a sincere voice. "Books can't teach you everything though. Some things you can only learn through experience." Despite often playing the role of the dummy to most, without realising it, Demyx had accumulated a vast understanding of human emotions and the like.
