It's too simple of an answer , too obvious a path , and though the reassurance sounds so sweet from such pretty lips , it flowing so freely ( and with such familiarity ) suggests she should further reflect before taking anything to heart . She may mean well , perhaps intending nothing more than to truly , sincerely ease the doubt Caitlyn oft tends to settle on ... but something doesn't sit right . A certain tingle within her temples , a breath she cannot release — the tension she feels isn't released with comforting words , for they do not hold warmth .

        callous hands came to grasp at ones soft, only a little rough 'round edges in comparison  -  thumbs press    &.    caress against knuckles. it's hard to keep teeth from poking beneath a spreading smile, eyes of silver remained on each other's embrace. though, brows furrow, a tinge of sadness within expression    ......    wasted months sulking    &.    FEELING SORRY FOR THEMSELF  rather than trying to reach beloved, or stay true to their own morals. being buried at the bottom of a mug granted comfort, an escape outside of fighting tooth 'n nail for survival. brawler's only known such things. the mere thought of becoming reliant    &.    obsessed at being by another's side is foreign  -  it's frightening.

She didn't mean to speak the insecurities that had been plaguing her , didn't mean to breathe life into the self - loathing she had hoped to bury , but guilt is an overwhelming pain to swallow . Everything she has done , each misguided step , may have brought them to where they are now , but ... how deeply she wishes she could have spared so much pain .

Her gaze falls to Vi's abdomen ; shame now doubled for how pathetic she sounds still harping on about the past . She is no victim , deserves no pity or grace for her wrongs , yet Vi always chooses to forgive . Meets her with understanding , patience and a love she oft struggles to comprehend . It is unconditional , and though she hopes her mother carried the same pure love for her daughter ... she's never been the perfect Kiramman .

Subconsciously , Caitlyn's hand falls to that same place she had foolishly targeted all those months ago , only to quickly be enveloped by Vi's own . Breath still feels caught within her throat , but the caress grounds her enough for eyes to rise again & meet Violet's own , no longer heavy with grief she struggled to bury .

She did not expect to be met with the same shimmer of regret in beloved's eyes .

' But ... you were right . I should've listened to you , I shouldn't have been so eager to ... ' An inhale , sharp and labored — perhaps she should listen now , too , and move forward rather than linger . ' You were never my enemy , Violet . Ambessa certainly wanted you to be ; it'd make things easier ... '

Digits curl into Vi's touch , gently soothing the wounds inflicted over far more battles than there should have ever been . ' We can't change what happened , but ... We can make it right . Together . I know you had some ... reservations about working with the Enforcers before , but we could make sure the force never again works against Piltover and Zaun's people ... '

i think Cait would be incredibly obnoxious about every holiday in general, but especially any holiday where she can give things out to people. the buckets of candy are quite literally lined up outside the door. she spent hours deciding which kinds to get to account for everyone's taste and allergies. everyone take one. you will be set for the entire year. enjoy. but brush ur teeth.....

The regret may threaten to pick apart your heart forever , but there is little that will come from self - hatred . Instead , a simple vow is made : protect Vi , and Piltover , with your life . Grief and rage shall never again blind her , and Vi will never know a life without love .
