Gifts Fit for a Queen

Hope your week is starting off right.

The holidays are right around the corner and regardless of what you celebrate or believe in you all deserve a little treat.

As it gets cold our curls tend to be on the dry side and what better way to moisturize them than with a gift set from some of your favorite natural hair brands like Shea Moisture and As I Am.

Shea Moisture has gift sets that they sell during the holidays that contain the “Coconut and Hibiscus collection. This includes the Curl and Shine Shampoo, the Curl and Shine Conditioner and the Curl Enhancing Smoothie. They are all the original sizes of the product but you can get all three in the set for $15 at Walmart. Now that’s a deal because one of these products alone is $15. Unbelievable ! A totally convient. I did the happy dance when I saw this set because I’m nourishing my curls on budget.

There are tons more gift sets for natural hair products online and in stores. Shea Moisture is just the cheapest one I found at the moment. As I am costs about $70 for a three product set at Walmart so balling on a budget doesn’t exist there.

Don’t Forget the Oil 😬

Hope your week is starting off right.

I’ve talked to you about hair products and mask but now I want to talk to you about the types of oil you should put in your hair.

Oil is a must have for natural hair. Since it’s harder to get to our scalps without a comb, oil is used to reach the scalp and penetrate it to moisturize the curls.

So here are 3 oils that are the best for a natural hair.

1. Avocado Oil

This oil has fatty acids which make the hair feel soft and promote shine. It works great for dry and damaged hair while also carrying vitamins and protein. It’s light so it aborbs and does not make the hair feel heavy.

2. Olive Oil

This oil has anti-inflammatory elements that help prevent dandruff. It has vitamin E which helps promote hair growth.

3. Coconut Oil

This is the holy grail of all oils. It comes in a solid but can be melted into a liquid for all your hair needs. Also it can reduce hair loss and breakage.

All these oils can be purchased at your local grocery store for a fair price. They can all be combined into a hair mask to make the ultimate moisture mask for your wash days.

Holy Grail

Hey Reinas

Since the weather is starting to cool off ( depending on where you are in the world) I wanted to show you my favorite hair mask using all natural products. Okay you got me, it is literally food from the kitchen.

I use this mask to revert damage from my hair after using heat or just to revive my curls if they are looking a little dead.

The mask consists of the following products;

1. Mayonnaise

2. Olive Oil

3. 2 eggs

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

All you have to do is mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until everything is fully combined.

Numbers 2 - 4 are optional. You can switch them out or add other things that work better for you. For example, I put cinnamon in my hair to promote hair growth and I will never do it again because cinnamon was in my hair for weeks after 3 shampoos!

So when doing the mask make sure your hair is damp so it has something to hold on too and find a place you do not mind getting messy. I usually apply hair mask in the bathroom.

After applying the mask put your hair under a shower cap or plastic bag; something disposable. Let the mask sit in your hair for 30 minutes and wash out with cool water and shampoo for popping curls.

Remember to apply hair products to moisturize your hair after rinsing out the mask. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Quickies 🏃🏾‍♀️

Hey Reinas

It’s been a busy semester for me and I haven’t been able to do wash N’ go’s like I want to. Mostly I have been wearing quick cute hairstyles like ponytails and buns.

So to save you another read I’m just going to link you to some videos for quick hairstyles for all hair types.

Hopefully these videos help you have an easier day. I know they have helped me. Also, remember to moisturize your hair when performing these styles. It will prevent breakage and make your hair shine.

Alternative Slay

Hey Reinas 👑

Hope your week is starting off great. I cannot believe it’s already October, but fall is my favorite season so I’m super happy.

So today I want to talk to you about other ways to style your hair in order to get a different curl pattern.

The hair styles I will be discussing tofday will be the following; Twists Outs, Braid Outs, Bantu Knots and Flexi Rods. Although there a plenty more, talking about all of them would take 7 pages.

So we’re not doing that today.

A braid out and twist out are super similar. It’s just the twist out requires 2 strands and the braid out requires 3 strands. It all depends on what kind of curl pattern you like. I usually do braid out using my usual hair product routine because my hair won’t hold twists. I’m not sure why it just doesn’t hold. The twist out curl pattern gives more of a natural curl look whereas the braid out pattern gives a more krinkled and kinky look. Either is beautiful. It’s just about what you prefer.

Okay, so Bantu Knots have become really popular so I’m sure you have seen them or heard of them. Trying to do them to your own head is another story. To create a Bantu Knot you have to section your hair into small pieces and for each piece twist the sections all the way up into a tight roll, then secure it it with a bobby-pin or a ponytail holder. Make sure you use your usual hair routine when doing these, they need something to hold on too. Bantu knots give you a tighter spiral curl look. When they a mastered they look amazing. I have never managed to look like anything close to amazing when trying this style. So I’ll just stick to the braid outs. But you should totally give it a try and post how they came out.

Lastly, we have the flexi-Rods. Flexi-rods are kind of like rollers but they are bendable and you smoothly wrap them around your hair and secure them at the end for a loser spiral curl look. Again, make sure to use your usual hair routine products when performing these styles so your hair can last longer and retain moisture.

Alright so that’s it. Remember no matter how you wear your hair you are beautiful.

Protect the Crown 👑

Hey Reinas 👸🏾

Today is going to be kind of quick, busy week and all but I realized that I should tell you how to protect your beautiful deep conditioned hair.

So today I’ll be talking about how to protect your hair when you’re going to bed.

When preparing to go to bed using a satin scarf, bonnet or pillow case is the best way to go. This is because they prevent frizz, stop breakage and keeps your hair hair moisturized and styled ( if you did a protective style )

I use a satin bonnet because it’s super simple. You just put it on your head and it has elastic on the end to keep it secured on your head over night.

Satin pillowcases can be purchased anywhere you get bedding and it removes the need for a bonnet or scarf because the pillowcase itself will prevent breakage.

We have to remember to protect our crown. So cover it in silk and watch it grow.

For the men reading my blog you can protect your crown too; by purchasing a Durag. They come in all styles and textures now. But it’s all for protecting your hair.

So that’s my tip for the day. Oh one more thing! Instead of drying your hair with a bath towel use a T-shirt. It also helps prevent frizz and breakage.

Deep Conditioning is Life, Right?

Hope your week is starting off right

Today I want to tell you all about my top three deep conditioners. I deep condition once a week, sometimes twice if my hair is needing EXTRA attention. So these are my go-to’s when my hair needs a little love. Keep in mind this is not a particular order, I literally buy all three if I can whenever I purchase products for my hair. These deep conditioners changed my hair and I’m hoping it will change yours too , some in the matter of minutes.

The first deep conditioner that I love is the Aussie Moist 3-Minute Miracle Deep Conditioner. The reason I love this conditioner is not only because it is quick but because it gets the job done in those 3 minutes the product sits in my head. It literally coats every strand of my hair with moisture and revitalizes every curl. This is the perfect deep conditioner for those that are pressed for time but their hair needs some love. I picked this product up from my local Walmart for around $4 but I am sure you can get it anywhere they sell hair products.

The second deep conditioner I love is the Mega Growth , Anti-Breakage Strengther Deep Conditioner by Profectiv. The reason I love this conditioner is not only because it smells great, like grapes and coconuts but it has great slip and it helps your hair grow. This deep conditioner is instructed to be left in for 10 minutes but I leave it in for around 30 minutes just to make sure all my curls get treated. You can also leave a little of the product in when you rise most of it out to keep strengthening your hair safely. I picked this product up at Walmart for a little over $5 and I have not seen it at any other store besides Walmart. It is fairly cheap just a little more time consuming that the 3-Minute Miracle. Go ahead and pick it up.

Finally, my third favorite deep conditioner is the Deep Treatment Masque by Cantu on their Shea Butter line. I love this conditioner because it works well with the other Cantu products I use after I deep conditioner. It moisturizes well and it is super thick so it coats every strand similar to the other deep conditioners mentioned. I usually leave this one on for 30-45 minutes just because I usually use this one after I have put heat on my hair and I am trying to apologize to my curls by pampering them in hope to reverse the heat damage. It usually does. I’ve picked this up from Walmart for about $13 but the prices have varied depending on what store you get it from. It is a bit more expensive and a bit more time consuming so it for what I like to call a spa day. That’s a day where I paint my nails and toes, do my hair from start to finish, mediate and drink some green tea with honey.

So those are my top three deep conditioners.

Hey Reinas! 

Let’s Talk the L.O.C Method. The L.O.C method stands for Leave-in Conditioner, Oil and Cream. It can also stand for Liquid, Oil, and Cream and/or Gel. 

Me personally, I prefer to use a leave-in conditioner instead of a liquid. I usually apply Aussie Moist Conditioner to my hair and use my shower comb to distribute it evenly. Then I would add olive oil to my hair just to seal in the conditioner; then part my hair into two to four sections. ( depends on how I feel) After that, I would add a dime size amount of Cantu Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream to each section evenly. Lastly, I will take an old T-shirt and ring out some of the water in my hair just to cut the drying time in half; then apply a gel to my hair to hold the curls longer and give more defintion.

 You can use any gel that doesn’t flake. I found a really great one at the Dollar Tree and it works wonders for a slick back ponytail.
