there is a general equalibrium for most versions of arduien and smiley who keep their roles (or in the case of swapping swap the names most times)

if smiley is much stronger then arduien in body or politics they do whatever they want with arduien

if smiley is only a bit stronger they can be evaded but the chance of capture is too high for arduiens liking (like canon)

if they're both the same strength its easy(er) for either to escape when the other gets too toxic (unless they're codependent which is another problem)

if arduiens slightly stronger they can (usually) scare smiley away or exert an influence over smiley (or be evaded ditto ditto on the capture chance)

and if arduiens much stronger they can do whatever they want with smiley, which 2/3rds(~) of the time involves murder, either in forcing or framing smiley into it, or smiley ending up dead or something more complex(and probably necromancy based)
