The very first time I listened to The Ugly Organ I was in the car with two of my best friends at that time. We had just watched āFrom Hellā at another friendās house and as we were leaving it was raining and the power was out on the street. That was when one of the bastards decided to blast on Harold Weathervein on the car, as if we were not scared enough. The song had this atmosphere and Iāll never forget how it felt when I first heard it. We just stood there listening quietly to the whole album.
Life came upside down a few times since then, but I always relate Cursive albums with the most important friendships I have/had and how they managed to see us survive through our roughest moments. Our priorities have changed, we have changed a lot, but always had the band as an āintersectionā in our tastes and our lives as music fans.
In 2012 a group of friends managed something amazing: bringing Cursive for two shows in Brazil. I didnāt know it back then, but it was the perfect opportunity to see that all the shit I had been through was in a long lost past and that the music is one of the few things that stays forever. For our little group, it was cathartic to finally be able to scream ādo do do do do do do do the worst is overā from the top of our lungs as you can (barely) see in one of the photos.
After the shows I was left with this beautiful setlist, a new āfamilyā and so many incredible memories. I canāt thank Cursive and everyone else involved in those shows enough. Really.
