The man who named my narrow bed was a quiet person, but he had good questions. âI suppose you do love me, in your way,â I said to him one night close to dawn when we lay on the narrow bed. âAnd how else should I love youâin your way?â he asked. I am still thinking about that.

⊠â Since Riley was at pre-school, Casey had taken the time to catch up on her grocery shopping and, well⊠to try and clear her head. So far, it wasnât working. Thankfully, someone spoke up and caught her attention. She lifted her head from her hand as tired eyes opened, offering the male a small smile. âI can only imagine what some of them would read â sure, Iâd love to hear some.â If anything, maybe it would cheer her up.
In the promise of welcomed nuisance, Calvin propped his opened manila folder from his backpack - setting it cradled against the bars of the child seat of the car: his own baby. He picked a test paper at random ( some kid named Fletcher with wretched handwriting ) and read on: âan average american spends $8000 on food each year; it takes only $150 to buy a yearâs supply of ramen and a grand for a casket.â His lips pursued in contemplation of the afterglow, commenting then on its practicality. âUnnecessary, but weâll have to make do. Want another one? I cannot vouch on how depressing or regrettable it would be however.â
exgrcyhart:
âOh really? Now you got me more curious, so please tell me what they wrote.â
âYour curiosity gives far too much credit on what some of these kids wrote -- one went of to confess that they had a threeway behind my lecture desk. I eat my sandwich on that desk.â

âI feel like if I say yes, Iâm going to be scarred for life. But, sure! Why the hell not. Educate away, teach.â
âIâm debating on being polite enough to spare you the hyper-detailed sexual ones as I donât think I can pay for therapy for the both of us, but did you know that there is day dedicated to putting your pillow in your fridge?âÂ
âIâve put a two-point bonus question on the last exam, and I asked them to put write something I didnât know. So far, I regret the hell outta it. Want me to read âem for you?â

Normally, Izzy wouldnât be doing such scut work. After all, he was the owner, it wasnât really something he should be doing. But, Abraham, his main bartender, and the one he would normally defer all this lame stuff to, had called in sick. He would be upset, but it was kinda nice, standing on the street, handing out flyers. Kept his mind off the bigger things that were distracting him these days. Making eye contact with someone, he smiles widely, âHey you, you look like you like half off beer and pinball tournaments, here have a flyer,â he says, shoving it in the personâs direction, resisting the urge to just straight up shove it in their hands, âIt starts at five thirty tonight.â
Like all great things, Calvin has succumbed to the dreary life of monotonous social media addiction. He walked then with his focus on an article about unicorns in a very dubious content site with a very dubious title -- and bam! Heâs got a pink flyer with less than favorable font-sizing, interrupting his imaginings of rhino-horse hybrids. âIf my students start missing out, Iâll know where to find them then,â he said as folded the paper into an airplane. It was less than satisfactory to linger really; but as the let the plane take flight and watched it very eagerly crash land on someoneâs unsuspecting head, he reached for another flyer and read the fine script - turning back to avoid the poor victim. âWhat beer do you serve? I might fly a plane better drunk anyway.â
My brother once showed me a piece of quartz that contained, he said, some trapped water older than all the seas in our world. He held it up to my ear. âListen,â he said, âlife and no escape.â
