They really do tell on themselves. They have to force religion down their children's throats so of course anything not religion centered must also be getting shoved down their throats at the same pressure level.

They understand that it's indoctrination, but how dare someone else try to counter-indoctrinate their children. They have mislabled indoctrination as education to the point that all education is indoctrination to them. And thus only the indoctrination they approve of is allowed for children.

My theory is that they may be heterosexual*, but there's no time for them to be shoved into m/f romance tropes even when they wouldn't fit the characters. We see them interacting as equals and partners by the end of the movie. We see romantic chemistry and yearning and the tragedy of never getting to explore that. We have the ingredients of an amazing ship, and they die before there's time for the default assumptions of that writers have for m/f couples to interfere.

Basically, there's no room for the hetero romance tropes to get in the way of the characters and their chemistry.

*Or not. I can see either of them being bi or pan.

Okay so I think this is actually the skeleton key to all the m/f ships I get feral about vs. the ones that I can enjoy without the urge to desert civilization and howl at the moon.

Katara and Zuko? They have intense chemistry of some sort going on, but never romantically involved in canon. I have needed them to kiss since I was like sixteen and I still do, though I would now prefer they do it post-finale. Roy and Riza? The history there, on top of their personalities. But they can't express their feelings about each other, I am hyperventilating about them.

There's a pattern here, is what I'm saying. I'm not sure it's even about the gender thing. My big m/m ship is Stucky, and again it's that intensity that canon never gets a chance to fuck with.

Because Luke and Mara? Even Jaina and Jag? Depends on who's writing them of course, but they're amazing. MANY feels about these guys.

So many straight ships are played straight( pun intended), that they begin to feel indistinguishable. But put actual tragedy, or mutual denial, or disregard for heteronormativity at the center and I'm ready to start a new ao3 binge.

Royai was the ship that made me realize I don't hate reading romance, I just don't like the standard hetero romances you see in the bookstore. I devoured fanfic about two war criminals who refuse to be happy as punishment for their sins but are still rabidly loyal and protective of each other.

As a kid I found the angst of Rogue and Gambit delightful. The denial and insistance she's no good for him, the patience and acceptance of her powers(I'm focusing on what parts of the ship intrigued me). The fact that she could crack him like a glowstick, and he would let her if it meant being in her arms.

Jyn and Cassian aren't a ship I'm necessarily feral for, but it's one I can respect and enjoy with enthusiasm. Just the tragedy of what if makes it so much fun. Also they don't flirt with each other on first sight. They're rough and disinterested in each other beyond their goals. They actually get to interact as characters a and b instead of mc and romantic interest. And I really think that helps. Like... not immediately having them be in romance mode gives them a chance to shine as they do begin to like each other. When your ship isn't tied up in one character being the romantic interest of the other it makes for more intriguing ships? Like they're each a fully developed character who interacts with the entire story not just the character they were made to romance.

In a straight romance, the story often makes the romantic interest less of a character and more of an accessory. And that's regardless of if the mc is masc of fem. I think heteronormative romances center the idea of love instead of centering an interesting plot about two people too often.

Really tired of customer "care" saying, "just follow the steps and you can fix the issue".

I have tried the steps 15 times. I called 4. I've gone in store and tried starting a brand new account. I've been through the reset password routine a baker's dozen. I have read every reddit article and tried every 'hack' someone has come up with for my issue.

If any of that worked do you think I'd be here explaining that this account hasn't worked properly in years and I just want this one function to work!

Jesus fuck I know some people need to be tild to turn a computer on and off again. But if I tell but you 5 times that this doesm't work for me. For fucks sake try something different.

I think anyone wasting their time being mean or hateful to fandoms and people enjoying themselves for just a little bit in this fucked up world are genuine cowards. Oh they'll talk shit about fanartists for not drawing to their made up specifications but god forbid they call their politicians and let them know what they think of them.

They'll complain about a fic with uncomfy themes and tropes as if it personally victimized them, but how dare anyone ask them to reblog a list of resources for people in need of assistance.

Can't let that tumblr user who's been reblogging their favorite 5 ships for a decade have their fifteen minutes of peace, but they can't pause rage baiting them long enough to complain about actual fascists.

They have dozens of opinions about what aspects of fandom are good and moral, but they don't even talk about the weight of a system so intertwined with real pedophilia that nobody wants to do anything about the epstein files.

It just feels like so many haters and contrarions want to tear people down and they waste that energy on the folks trying to escape the late stage capitalism hell simulator instead of pointing it at actual villains. It just annoys the hell out of me that a tag I'm enjoying can suddenly be spammed with disgusting hatred and unfounded accusations about the fans. When there are real badguys with real world harm in their intentions.

I come here to escape the doomsday prophecies and nazi germany parallel discussions and the videos of supposed military veterans wearing a full face mask on a "credible" news source....

I think ao3 is literally the only site where no censorship means no censorship. you can post the most vile things on there — things that will get taken down on any other platforms — and ao3 will protect you, your works, and your rights to create whatever you want, however you want.

and no, this isn’t me saying “write that messed up, disgusting thing” because while, yes, write it if it’s what you want (I myself enjoy writing dark fics, something I believe would be considered “vile” to a lot of people), this is me saying in a world of censorship and capitalism, ao3 really is a treasure.

Fandom friends, I give you a daily reminder

I find it hilarious when someone who isn't a fan and doesn't actually know the lore, context, history, or characters gets on the internet and says their 'hot take' backed by 0 evidence. In fact it is so funny I laughed for 15 minutes at someone who was so grossly mischaracterizing a franchise favorite that it was like they were describing a different character.

And then I saw they were sending hate to gay ship artists for making two white guys slightly different shades. And somehow tying that into racism and mysoginy. But instead of trying to have coherent discussions they were saying shit like 'who are they? They don't even look like the characters you tagged!'

Which is my point about this post.

Reminder to block dingbats who are intentional haters/contrarions instead of trying to talk to them. It's like trying to fight one of those used car lot air dancers. They have no substance to their argument but are so hell bent on being right they will say or do anything to upset or hurt you. And if they're taking to picking on fanartists and shippers, it's best to not engage because they're just here to bully people and you shouldn't even think about them.

The only reason I am is because I am so tired of seeing people genuinely enjoying something harmless (fictional people can't cause harm and aren't going to make people evil) and getting outright attacked by someone who isn't even in the fandom. Like this goes outside of fandom discourse because someone in the equation clearly doesn't belong anyways.

Imagine being so bored on the internet you act like ship war soldiers from 15-20 years ago about a media you don't even like. Or are so in need of being the victim that you antagonize people who were minding their own business. Just so you can cry: 'see I'm the only one who truly understands and everyone else is crazy!' That's some really unhealthy behavior. Do not engage with toxic people on the internet!

There is no hope engaging with that level of hate. It's sad truly, to see someone that bitter seek out negative attention from fans who don't even know they exist...And I understand the desire to educate and help, but some causes are too far lost in the sauce to be worthwhile. So please if you see this person lurking in your fandom (they seem to attack trending media/ships) please do not engage. Block so they can't see yout wonderful art, discussions, and fics and move on. You should worry about protecting yourself and your fandom mutuals.

And if you think you know who I am talking about, don't name them on this post, I'm trying to do the exact opposite of what they do. This is just a reminder to block people who are actively bullying others on the internet. No matter how compelling their takes might be, do not engage with them. See if others with less vitriol and venom are discussing the topic in less abusive ways.
