My Work Inspired by my friend's writings
A diplomat assigned to Vienna smoked a cigarette while peeling an orange. He pondered about his late brother with the lazy eye and missing left ear. His brother liked oranges, so much so that he ate the peel. A sad vision of his brother choking on an entire orange brought a tear to the diplomat’s eye. He tried to help his brother, but efforts were in vain. Thus the diplomat in Vienna ate an orange every day in homage, taking his time as he wish his brother had.
(written with a straw full of orange juice as a Mozart arrangement plays)
I love this
Been trying to write/type about a Flemish sailor from the 1840s named Petrus, but can’t seem to get it right for some reason. Perhaps it is due to not knowing enough about the time or not having the will to seek that knowledge. Petrus gets stranded in Galveston after a disagreement with a crew mate over the topic of Belgian neutrality, and spending the night in a field on the mainland after getting drunk with some Hessians. He often misses Bruges and laments how he wouldn’t have left for Antwerp if he could have found meaningful work. Petrus goes to Austin with some Bohemians he befriended to learn a new trade. Marries a Mexican woman in San Antonio after several months of courting. He and his wife eventually go to Mexico after her cousin is accused of being in collusion with the Mexican government and killed without trial. Petrus fights on the side of the Mexicans during the Mexican-American war after being promised land and citizenship. Mexico lost the war and Petrus lost a leg, but a son was born and a home was established in Orizaba. After that it is uncertain as to what happens to him beyond having more children and becoming a barber. Not sure if he lives through the Second French Intervention.
If I figure it out, this won’t be here.
Twenty past five. Making a list of books that will probably be forgotten about. Every list I make is often forgotten. Recommendations are always welcomed. Considering investing in a sketch pad. An old art journal has me nostalgic.
