» Supernatural Creatures: Werewolves
Werewolf folklore (sometimes referred to as a lycanthrope) are believed to have originated in Early Greek culture. Werewolves are humans with the ability to shapeshift into a wolf or wolf-like creature. They can either change purposefully at will, or are under curse where they can only change under a full moon. With a curse, a werewolf will revert back into their human state once the sun rises. In some cultures it is believed a man will not remember becoming a wolf if under curse, and in others he will remember.
One of the earliest myths of werewolves was in Ancient Greek culture. In the Ancient Greek myth, they told of a man named Lycaon, an early king of Arcadia that served his own slaughtered son to Zeus. This infuriated the god, and as punishment he turned the king into a wolf, slaughtered his other 50 sons and resurrected Nyctimus, the son killed and served to Zeus. Thus it could be believed that any child of the wolf, Lycaon, carried the curse.
In old European folklore, beliefs of werewolves grew parallel to the belief of witches. Naturally, anyone believed to have been a werewolf was killed in Europe from the 15th century to the 18th century. Early on in this period of superstition, lycanthropy was believed to actually be mixes of either wolf-riding or wolf-charming (in other words a type of ‘witchcraft’, therefore believed to be witches). After the time period of the witch trials, werewolves became more integrated into fairy tales and folklore for fiction.
Now, with the growing presence of werewolves in fiction along with the history of the wolf trials, techniques to be rid of werewolves or kill them were created. The most popular and common technique is with a silver bullet. However, firearms did not become a common weapon until after the 15th century so beforehand silver daggers were used. Why silver? It was believed that the alloy has some sort of mystical tie to the moon. Werewolves are also tied to the power of the moon so ironically, the power of silver will render the werewolf’s regeneration abilities useless, thus allowing it to be killed properly.

Mythology meme: Medusa (favorite tragic story)
I told the world that you were beautiful
An angel of war
With wisdom of a thousand men
and an owl’s heart set to soar
I praised you for hours
I laid at your feet
Betrayed for Poseidon
Look at what he did to me
You told the world that it was my fault
You set a curse upon my head
My voice used to hum
It now hisses instead

“You’re not the first to suggest as much.”
He doesn’t seem much bothered by the statement though. Whether that is caused by genuine apathy or just his current state of entirely too caffeinated is up for debate.
“Then you’re lookin’ at a four hour wait, minimum. On the flip side, you could go one floor up and ask Damien or Scott about the really tall knight dude who came through here not long ago. But knowing those two, it’s a bit of a toss up whether they’ll be any help.
—Mind if I ask what you’re doin’ lookin’ for those two?”
And she was not at all surprised by that answer. Given the mother, the son was no doubt to be any less unique -- to put it nicely, and in consideration for a world that Morgan believed that they shared.
"For your mother? I just wanted to make sure I was in the right place. For the knight? I have an offer for him. He and I go way back."
“Seventeen. And I’m translating ancient Babylonian scriptures. Well, that and the dishes.”
There’s a momentary pause, if it could even be considered that long—his caffeine addled system wouldn’t allow anything longer.
“Depends on what time it is and what day it is—of which I’m aware of neither. Most days she’s home pretty early. Mom isn’t one for workin’ late, y’know?”
"...You are very strange."
Who was he anyway? She had come looking for a sun spirit and instead found a boy bordering on bouncing off the walls. Wait a minute -- a son.
"I believe I get the gist of it. And I believe it is noon -- Wednesday. If she is not here then perhaps you have seen an rather tall man? Who could quite possibly be mistaken for some kind of prince from those fairytales?"
“No, no, too much to do. Maybe some other time. An’ yeah, she lives here. Not here right now, but you’re in the right place.”
"You're twelve. What on earth have you to do?" Mind you this was coming from a woman who raised her son to be a weapon and carry out her revenge for her. "And when exactly can she be expected to return?"
”Oh, um, sorry. Haven’t slept in a while. What’d you say you wanted?”
"Then perhaps you should have remedied that with sleep? At least then your speech wouldn't come in short bursts of hyperactive locution, wouldn't you say? What I wanted to know is if this is the residence of Miss. Milton."
”—What?”
"...Perhaps I should find someone who hasn't consumed half of he United Kingdom's caffeine supply." 'Twould certainly get me a full sentence
