Finally finished it (or at least finished enough of it to be satisfied to leave it as it is, lol)! I really liked this scene between Vax and Percy, with Percy at his more vulnerable.

Kynan, what am I to do with you?
arrowled:
she pushes all of her weight down as vax attempts to push her back up again, more out of spite than desire to remain on the floor. “trink was very comfortable until you distrubed me,” vex glares up at her brother as she is rolled onto her back, her arms swiping at him with her open hands. “beside, it’s so far away,” the ranger whines, a pout pinching her face. she’s still debating which vax to focus on.
“you’re ridiculous,” voice comes affectionate as he’s feebly batted at by a pouting, drunken sister. vax loops calloused fingers ‘round her wrists and tries to tug her back towards the bear - he hasn’t made any noise, so vax is assuming the beast has just put his head back down to nap. bear and his mistress are so alike it’s almost unnerving sometimes. “c’mon, then, back to trinket. he does make a good pillow.” sleeping on the bear is better than sleeping on the stone floor. “if you whine at me tomorrow about a sore neck i’m gonna smack you.” an idle threat said with a lopsided grin.

❛ STAY ALIVE 'til this horror show is past, ❜ he said, eyes cast elsewhere, towards the horizon. as if looking would reveal to him that clenched knotwork of terror that awaited their arrival. as if it would loosen the arc of tension defining his entire form & posture. he looked at vax then, gaze heavy & cold : death changed his perspective. had confirmed many things about his placement in the universe & where he, where all of them, factored into the complex order of things. // @daggerled liked !
eyes drift from percy to the sky, dark and shimmering with stars. hands rest on the dagger he’s in the process of sharpening rather than rest with the other sleeping members of the party, curled into tents and around the slowly sputtering embers of camp fire. first watch is usually something he takes - but the presence of percy is a welcome one. lips draw taut for a quiet moment as head ducks in a nod. “ - percy,” he begins, voice low and hesitant. “we don’t know what’s going to happen in the coming days. should something happen to me - should i not survive this - will you take care of her for me?” it ought to be no question who he’s referencing, eyes cutting for a moment to vex’ahlia’s tent for half a moment as he does so.
arrowled:
vax succeeds in pushing her up, but vex allows her legs to go slack beneath her, and she instead makes contact with the floor with a dull smack. the only notification of any pain she’s experiencing is an exaggerated, prolonged groan, her cheek pressed to the ground. “nooo…” she grumbles, her legs kicking behind her, making soft thuds as they hit the floor. “you can’ make me do anythin’.”
the thump when his sister hits the stone has vax rolling his eyes, crouching beside her again and trying to get her back up. they’re both stubborn beings, the twins, and this fight could go on for hours - might go on for hours unless someone ( pike or keyleth or percy, probably ) comes and finds them quarreling. “doesn’t your bed sound so much more comfortable than the stone floor, stubby?” he teases and placates at the same time as he rolls her onto her back.
lakeknight:
{ Great Goddess preserve him. How he’ll even begin to pronounce that name, he cannot fathom. That strange sound… The closest he can approximate is perhaps the ch sound, the voiceless velar fricative common to his native tongue. And the outstretched hand – what is he expected to do with that? His first instinct is to take it and press a kiss to its back, as he would to a noble lady. It seems a bit ridiculous, but then, so does this whole encounter. }
“I must first welcome you to our fair city, Vachs‘ildan. I am called Lancelot of the Lake.”
after the man doesn’t shake his hand, vax blinks and lets his arm fall back to his side. alright then. a little rude - but the man seems well meaning enough. maybe he’s still caught up on what gnomes are. it seems odd that someone wouldn’t know of gnomes, at least to vax. “uh, vax’ildan.” he corrects at the odd mispronunciation of his name. “it’s good to meet you, lancelot.”
like this for a starter, capping at five!
viatcr:
letha starts slightly at the sudden appearance of the figure before her, a few smaller branches tumbling from the top of the pile to plop in the squishy ground. she still stubbornly refuses to drop the load in favor of her daggers — a BANDIT wouldn’t make such an ungainly appearance, she reasons ( unless he’s the DISTRACTION, the more paranoid part of her insists ). “ hello. ” she says instead, tone wary and obviously so. “ are you ——– okay? ” small talk is not so much a strong suit of hers — talking in GENERAL is not so much a strong suit of hers, save for the strict, tactful rules of keeping peace ( something constantly sought after — the messenger never wants to be the one SHOT ).
vax rotates an ankle as if making sure ligaments are unharmed beneath boots and skin, head tilted down and eyes startled. “oh - yes, i believe so, thank you.” voice is thrown into a different tone and accent - best to disguise his identity a little bit. “sorry if i startled you, damn woods are a death trap.” hands brush dirt from the front of his cloak, crooked smile directed at the girl.
please stop framing me for murder. just because i have killed 1,846 people doesnt mean i killed that specific one
The Picture of Dorian Gray Sentence Starters
❛ The books that the world calls immoral are books that show the world its own shame. ❜ ❛ Behind every exquisite thing that existed, there was something tragic. ❜ ❛ Experience is merely the name men gave to their mistakes. ❜ ❛ You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit. ❜ ❛ Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing. ❜ ❛ Whenever a man does a thoroughly stupid thing, it is always from the noblest motives. ❜ ❛ I will not bare my soul to their shallow prying eyes. ❜ ❛ I don’t want to be at the mercy of my emotions. ❜ ❛ I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them. ❜ ❛ The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it. ❜ ❛ She is very clever, too clever for a woman. She lacks the indefinable charm of weakness. ❜ ❛ Men marry because they are tired, women, because they are curious: both are disappointed. ❜ ❛ Some things are more precious because they don’t last long. ❜ ❛ I love acting. It is so much more real than life. ❜ ❛ I am tired of myself tonight. I should like to be somebody else. ❜ ❛ I knew nothing but shadows and I thought them to be real. ❜ ❛ Nowadays most people die of a sort of creeping common sense, and discover when it is too late that the only things one never regrets are one’s mistakes. ❜ ❛ One can always be kind to people about whom one cares nothing. ❜ ❛ The reason we all like to think so well of others is that we are all afraid for ourselves. The basis of optimism is sheer terror. ❜ ❛ The soul is a terrible reality. It can be bought and sold and bartered away. ❜ ❛ Laughter is not at all a bad beginning for a friendship, and it is by far the best ending for one. ❜ ❛ They get up early, because they have so much to do, and go to bed early, because they have so little to think about. ❜ ❛ I have grown to love secrecy. ❜ ❛ Sin is a thing that writes itself across a man’s face. It cannot be concealed. ❜ ❛ A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her. ❜ ❛ Yet you poisoned me with a book once. I should not forgive that. ❜ ❛ The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history. ❜ ❛ I was wrong. It has destroyed me. ❜ ❛ You like every one; that is to say, you are indifferent to every one. ❜ ❛ You have killed my love. ❜ ❛ You used to stir my imagination. Now you don’t even stir my curiosity. You simply produce no effect. ❜ ❛ The secret of remaining young is never to have an emotion that is unbecoming. ❜ ❛ You know more than you think you know, just as you know less than you want to know. ❜ ❛ What fire does not destroy, it hardens. ❜ ❛ I have given away my whole soul to someone who treats it as if it were a flower to put in his coat, a bit of decoration to charm his vanity, an ornament for a summer’s day. ❜ ❛ Every impulse we strangle will only poison us. ❜ ❛ She knew nothing but she had everything he had lost. ❜ ❛ I can stand brute force, but brute reason is quite unbearable. There is something unfair about it’s use. ❜ ❛ I didn’t say I liked it. I said it fascinated me. There is a great difference. ❜ ❛ I want the dead lovers of the world to hear our laughter, and grow sad. I want a breath of our passion to stir their dust into consciousness, to wake their ashes into pain. ❜ ❛ Is insincerity such a terrible thing? ❜ ❛ If they know nothing of victory, they are at least spared the knowledge of defeat. ❜ ❛ But the bravest man among us is afraid of himself. ❜ ❛ I am afraid that woman appreciate cruelty, downright cruelty, more than anything else. ❜ ❛ If I could get back my youth, I’d do anything in the world except get up early, take exercise or be respectable. ❜ ❛ I was dominated, soul, brain, and power by you. ❜ ❛ You might see nothing in him. I see everything in him. ❜ ❛ I should fancy, however, that murder is always a mistake. One should never do anything that one cannot talk about after dinner. ❜ ❛ To define is to limit. ❜ ❛ I suppose it comes from the fact that none of us can stand other people having the same faults as ourselves. ❜

arrowled:
vex inhales deeply in exaggerated gasps for breath as her brother rolls off, dramatically clutching her throat. “do not!–” her face pinches into a disapproving pout, swiping at him with a clenched fist, with little force. “–do not make bear puns, it’s rude and unacceptable,” the word “unacceptable” is a formless slur as she rolls onto her side to run her hand over trinket’s fur with a lazy hum. she feels vax’s hand under her shoulder, groaning in protest to the action.
he mock-dramatically dodges the blow, rolling into an overblown somersault to avoid the soft blow. “unaccepawable?” it comes out a lilting, teaching question, eyes glittering as he slots himself beneath vex’s arm and tries to get her to stand. “c’mon, you lush, to bed.”
arrowled:
ʙᴇᴛʀᴀʏᴀʟ! a yelp escapes her as she’s knocked backwards onto trinket. beneath them, the bear grumbles, his head lifting from the sleep, the sudden act of treachery happening on his back rousing him from his nap. “vax, no!“ a whined protest as she wriggles beneath her brother, his chest pressed against her face. “how could you be- beter- bertray me like this?” her slurred words are clumsy on her tongue “your own flesh and blood?”
betrayal, indeed. “a traitor to all vex-kind.” he mumbles with a soft laugh, rolling off of her and more fully onto trinket. a quick nuzzle is given to the grumbling bear’s shoulder as vax chuckles. “do you mean beartray you?” it’s a horrible pun and he knows that before it even comes out of his mouth - it makes him laugh, anyways, patting trink’s side and rolling onto his feet in a crouch. “c’mon, you, you’re hammered.” vax nudges at his sister’s shoulder, trying to wedge himself beneath her and get her up.
