"Against All"
In a world marked by uncertainty, bringing a new life into the world is an act of hope and vertigo in equal measure.
This work stems from a question that defines our times: what future awaits those born today?
The structures surrounding the child evoke a hostile, fragile and ever-changing environment; a world beset by environmental, social, economic and technological challenges whose limits we are only just beginning to grasp. Yet the central figure shows no fear. He rests.
Far from representing despair, the work speaks of life’s extraordinary capacity to find a way forward even in the most adverse circumstances. Of how innocence, tenderness and the desire for a future persist where everything seems uncertain.
The child does not exist on the fringes of the darkness that surrounds him. He dwells within it. And yet he sleeps.
Perhaps because every generation inherits an imperfect world. Perhaps because hope has never consisted of the absence of dangers, but rather in the will to keep growing in spite of them.
