Oh, how I have treated you so unkind. Oh, how so unkindly others have treated you. Yet, you still remain intact, bearing the physical, emotional, and psychological scars of unpleasantry for so little to see. Body, you have carried my being for years. You are much younger than I am in here. For reasons not yet completely known to me, there have been times where I have pinched you until you bled, cut you until you bled, starved you, poisoned you, and exploited you. Through all of this, you still remain with me: A young, beautiful shell carrying an old, bitter being.
Depression has allowed me to do these things to you. I never meant to hurt you. Family history runs deep within the vile rivers of disparity and self-loathing. I greatly apologize for those times I lacked the emotional and psychological ability to stop forced hate upon you. I want to blame my family history for my own past.
Rightfully so, these thoughts and actions are learned at a young age and I do not believe I would have naturally turned out this way if it werenât for everything I have witnessed since birth.
Anger, depression, addiction, lust, and selfishness: the list continues. I have always known anger. I have always seen physical anger. These learned actions and reactions have caused me to harm you in ways I would never harm another living being. I cannot even kill a cockroach without crying inside.
My dearest Body, you did not deserve any of those things. I have taught you to stay still while I transcended into deep meditation. I taught you to stretch and run. I nurtured you with medication to heal you even when my brain maliciously told me not to. You are so incredible. I donât tell you this often enough, but I spend long moments just staring at you up close. I love the rivets in your skin and the olive hue it gives off under its paleness. I am learning to love your eye color and your toes. I am learning how to give you what you need when you need it instead of selfishly taking and keeping from you.
With all of that being said, there is nothing I would want to change about you. Your lips are beautiful. Do not listen when I tell you theyâre too thin. Your nose is perfect. Do not listen when I tell you itâs too big. Your vagina is magnificent. Do not listen when I tell you itâs not. Your nails are exactly as they should be. Do not listen when I tell you theyâre too brittle.
The only things I wish to change are of my spirit. I am bitter and angry, yet hopeful and happy. Iâm sorry that my mind is a bit confused, Body. Iâm so grateful for you! For you have not betrayed me once. It is I who has betrayed you.
Yet, you inspire me by continuing to carry me forward!
You give me so much hope!

I salute your integrity and patience; your sense of commitment on making sure that your significant other feels secure and will stay significant in your life and relationship as long as it lasts. How youâre adjusting (if youâre in a new relationship) and how well youâve adjusted (if youâre in a long term one) your daily schedules just to communicate with them. And how youâre incorporating them in everything you doâwhether you send them a selfie of you doing your job or drinking coffeeâjust to make them feel that they are a part of your everyday routine even if theyâre miles and miles away.
Being in a relationship is never easy, but when thereâs physical distance in between, maintaining one is an altogether different experience. You feel like the world is against you. You have to constantly hear and battle criticisms because long distance relationship is not a real relationship is what they say. So sometimes youâre urged to prove that yes, it is! Because what else could you call yours? You go to your Facebook profile and post screenshots of your Skype dates and tagging your significant other just so you could get peopleâs whispers of negativity off your back, because your relationship will last and youâre working on it.
At the early stages, that would probably your solution, and thereâs nothing wrong with that. It only shows that youâre proud of them. You donât hide how you feel and you want everyone to know that thereâs no criticism in the world that could break you two apart.
However, if youâve been together for years, the need to prove that your relationship is going strong goes lesser to zero. Because over the years youâve come to realize that thereâs no need to prove anything to anyone. The only people you need to prove yourselves to, of how dedicated you still are to the love you gave and the commitment you pledged, are you two; the ones who are in a relationship. It doesnât matter if your friends donât always see you on their Facebook walls. It doesnât matter if each of your Instagram accounts is full of weird pictures and almost none about you two. Itâs unimportant if people you know is thinking that the lack of pictures as proof must mean that you two have broken up, only to be surprised one day, as they scroll through their newsfeed, and stumble upon a random photo of you two in one place which would make them say, âWhat? Theyâre still together?â
Thereâs no ideal relationship. You cannot expect one from two imperfect people. Thereâs just love, respect, honesty, trust, and commitment. If the both of you are dedicated to stay in each otherâs lives, without having to restrain the other or having the urge to chain them to you, distance is not going to become something bigger than it already is, especially in our generation today where most of our lives are spent and posted on social media. Long distance relationship has been made easier by video calls and chats. And I think LDR couples basically worship the Internet because of that.
As the quote says, âDistance has no meaning when two hearts are one,â and I wholeheartedly agree, being in a long distance relationship myself. So again, to all the couples out there who has proven that itâs true, that had literally went against all odds, I salute you. I respect you. Please continue making the world a better, more loveable, and more worthy place to live, and for the rest of humanity to become less cynical.
