“Uncle Bradley made tea cakes today! I just hope Freddie doesn’t eat them all at once again — that was both terrifying and hilarious.”
“Tea cakes? That sounds lovely. I honestly wouldn’t blame this Freddie character if he did eat them all.”
“I’m sorry... were you saying something?” A small sigh escaped her as she shot the other an apologetic look. “I’ve just kind of been a bit out of it, lately.”
"In this swarm of cigarettes and dark sophistication they appeared here and there like figures from an allegory, or long-dead celebrants from some forgotten garden party."
- Donna Tartt, The Secret History (via ripbunny)
they were children when she drew the conclusion that charles was her minotaur, that he was hers.
she was a child when she drew the conclusion that had ariadne shorn her bull, she would have seen her brother whole - pretty and haunted by the weight of his horns.
she was a child when she made the decision never to let anyone but her see her brother naked.

“That’s a great idea, but I don’t really know how I would train it myself. And, also, the very fact that you mentioned it in the first places tells me I should be wary of you.”
“You could always ask a trusted friend to do it for you, someone who won’t secretly train it to attack you.” A small chuckle escaped Mily as she arched an eyebrow. “Wary of me? I wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“You know, I didn’t think of that—” Jane paused in thought. “I should wish for more snow.”
“See, that’s the spirit! With us both wishing for more snow, school is guaranteed to be canceled.”
“What? Of course I have! Why do you doubt me, Mills?”
“Because you have virgin written all over you, Bun. In fact... that’s probably why you never truly let loose whenever Henry suggests a ritual.” A coy smirk formed on the girl’s lips as she tilted her head to the side. “You saving yourself for someone special, Corcoran?”
“Well…I could. It does sound like the sort of thing they would enjoy. I guess I’ll ask them if they’d like to go.”
“Oh, splendid! The success of my party is riding on you, no pressure or anything.”
“Snow is a pain in the ass at seven in the morning when I have to drive to school.”
“Okay, I can definitely agree with that... school in general is a pain in the ass and the snow doesn’t really make it any better. Although, some mornings with snow are great due to the fact that school can always be canceled.”
“I suppose so. Oh, I’m so sorry, where are my manners? Jay Gatsby, at your service.”
“Jay Gatsby? As in the Gatsby that throws all those extravagant parties? Gosh... I feel like I’m meeting a celebrity.”
“Well… I don’t know. I mean, it sounds lovely — it really does — but I’m sure I wouldn’t have much fun.”
“Oh come on, it’ll be fun! I promise! Why don’t you invite some of your friends so that you don’t feel so apprehensive?”
“I have an irrational fear of carnivals... especially after American Horror Story. I can’t be the only one, right?”
“Yeah, I’ve definitely had sex with, like, 4 girls at once. It was pretty amazing.”
“Oh please... you’re so full of shit, Bunny. I bet you haven’t even had your first kiss yet.”
"Ye should’ve spoke up then. ‘course I’ve got one.” Simon pulled the carton of Viceroys from his pocket and took two cigarettes from it — one for the girl and one for himself. "Need a light then too?” he asked before lighting the cigarette dangling from his own lips with the old lighter he had fetched from his pocket.
Camilla gave a small nod of gratitude as she took the cigarette into hand, placing it between her lips. “Got my own, but thank you anyways.” After a few seconds of digging around in her coat pockets she retrieved a lighter, igniting the end of the cigarette and taking a long drag. “You are a lifesaver,” she murmured after a steady exhale. “I think I’ve seen you around before, Sick Boy right?”
“You know, I should get a seeing-eye dog instead of this stick — then all the ladies will be all over me… Even if it’s just for my dog.”
“That sounds like a master-plan. You could also use the dog against your enemies. If anyone makes fun of you, you can just send the dog after them.”
“It’s supposed to be spring, why is it snowing?”
“Weather in Virginia is known to be a bit bipolar, although I don’t really mind the snow. It gives me an excuse to sit inside cuddled up with a book all day.”
