âOh, my God. He is gorgeous.â Dakota said sincerely, looking at the photos on Lilaâs phone. It made her wonder whether or not she would ever have children. âHe could be a model, honestly.â
âThatâs so badass! Well now I think we definitely need to do it. The pool is kind of big, though, I feel like I need to buy more to give it the desired effect.âÂ
âOh, Iâm sure heâs adorable.â Dakota said. âHave you got any pictures?â She asked. Lila was sweet and offered a nice change of pace to Dakotaâs usually drab days, so she wanted to be engaging.
âI ordered fifty of them online the other night. you can have as many as you want.â Dakota offered. âI kind of want to toss them all into the pool and see what happens.â
âMe neither.â Dakota replied. âI love the rain. I used to live in the desert.â She added. Her old town usually didnât come up much in conversation, but today she was feeling nostalgic and lonely. âI always told my parents that my dream was to live somewhere cold.â She said. âI think Chicago fits the bill half of the time.â
Dakota grinned. âThanks, youâre sweet. Sorry, I just rant about myself a lot. Iâm a little selfish. Whatâs your babyâs name?â

âItâs okay. Onto better things.â Dakota said, then shrugged. âUnfortunately, most of them are married.â  She joked.
âGod.â Dakota rolled her eyes. âThis idiot is trying to sell me pressed pills Iâve never seen before for $40. Iâm 100% sure that itâs either tylenol or meth and he got all defensive when I started to challenge him and just insisted it was a clean cut.â She said. âIâve got a weed guy but heâs pretty much just good for that.âÂ
âIâm dealing with the death of my career.â Dakota said, with a little melodramatic groan. âSorry, thatâs probably insensitive to the people who are dealing with real death.â She added. âMy showâs a flop. Iâm trying not to let it tank my career.â
âOh, thatâs wonderful.â Dakota murmured. âIâm trying to like what I do.â She said, with a dry laugh. âItâs a little difficult lately.â
âI know, God, Iâm the fucking worst. Sorry, I lived in the City with a bunch of artists for years, it was pretty candid.â Dakota said, rolling her eyes. âIâm serious.â She added, then narrowed her eyes. âUnless...youâre actually a cop.â She suggested, folding her arms to mimic Benji.  âIn which case I donât even know what a molly is and have never rolled at any club. Ever.â She joked.Â
âOh! Thatâs why you look so familiar. I thought I recognized those legs.â Dakota said, cracking a sly grin. âI saw you last week. Iâm usually not partial to ballet but I really enjoyed myself.â She said. The tickets had been a gift from a producer who asked her to go and integrate herself into the arts scene more.
âOh, thatâs good work too, Iâm sure.â Dakota said, nodding. âThat must have been hard when you first started out.â
