“ i didn’t expect to see you here.”
the queen munjeong’s birthday celebrationstatus : accepting
if it was any other person that asked the question, kim seolhwa might’ve pursed her lips in the impertinent sort of way she would in the face of obvious slight. but this is her sister-in-law, the beautiful princess of the blood – and she could not do any wrong in the younger girl’s eyes. so she smiled, bright-eyed and pink-cheeked with excitement, as she sunk into the prettiest little bow; her deep maroon skirts fluttering out around her.
( as if she was the only flower in the garden, brighter and lovelier than anything else )
“of course i wouldn’t miss it for the world, sister!” outsiders might see her as a presumptuous little thing who dared to call queen munjeong’s eldest daughter as ‘sister’, but as the precious youngest sister of kim hyunsoo, she had earned the right the second the princess joined their family. not many of the yangban class could call the king’s family as their own, and seolhwa could only wait with bated breath to see if their families could be even more closely intertwined. but her putting forth her ambitions is unbecoming for a woman, and the beautiful thing was not going to disgrace her family before earning a husband that will propel her rank into the heavens.
“it must be a wondrous thing to grow up in such a beautiful palace… one could only assume that such loveliness could become such a person as yourself.” she smiled, softly and with a flicker of the same loveliness that she could only wish to embody herself.
so she looked up at the elder – figuratively, and literally – a small lilt of her head as her gaze fluttered to peer from under her lashes. giddy, excited, ever so effervescent.
“your highness, i daresay my brother is the lucky one in this match, although i’m sure you’ve heard it all before!” a giggle, a flash of a smile – it was obvious that the youngest of the three kims is the one most suited for court life.
for a pretty thing spun for moonlight, it’s difficult not to be suited for equally pretty things.
