Thoughts on the CSW

I believe that this year's CSW event definitely improved from last year's CSW event. During last year's event, when I was an English 120 student I remember I was with with a friend and we kept losing each other because it was so packed. It literally felt like that through the whole entire time I was there. I even had some trouble talking to people about their projects to see what was the main purpose of it was. But this year's CSW was better be cause it was packed but not as bad where you were still able to get some breathing air. I feel like it was more organized as well and I was also able to get good feedback from other student's projects.

CSW Interview Assignment

Yesterday at the CSW I had another great experience just like I did last year. Last year was mostly me just looking at everyone’s different projects but this time I was the one that had to make the project which made it really interesting for myself. There were multiple projects that caught my eye during the CSW that I couldn’t choose which one I wanted to do for my interview assignment. But the one I landed on was from a student name Zakeisha and her research was about childhood obesity. I first found that to be very interesting since that is very common in today’s world and I wanted to know more.

    For Zakeisha’s project on childhood obesity she was giving out little foldable flyers that had pictures and all kinds of facts all around and through the flyer. I thought the cover photo of the flyer was really interesting. In the middle, it had a child suffering from obesity surrounded by multiple people. The people that were surrounded by the kid were people that trying to show him what things he needs to do to not suffer from obesity. For instance, it had a buff guy in shape meaning he needed more exercise or outside play, a doctor meaning that he is there to make sure he is in good health, and many more.

    I can relate to this topic pretty well because I have a god brother that suffered from childhood obesity. The main reason did was that all he really did was sit in the house, eat, and play the game all day. He wasn’t getting any outside or exercise play what so ever unless it was the summer time when he would always swim in his pool. He always seemed to look up to me and want to be like me so I was always there to help him out and get him in the best shape for his own health.

    Overall, the CSW is a great event to see different experiences on how they change their writing style to a more engaging style instead of on a white piece of paper. Both times that I have attended the CSW I have always learned something new and I recommend all students to intend so it will change the way people want to write papers.

This article is about how the Department of Agriculture reported that nearly 17 million people suffered from very low food security. Suffering from very low food security which caused them to have to skip meals or not eat for a day because they didn't have enough money to buy for food. People that have to live this lifestyle can't help but depend on food stamps or food pantries to assist them for food. The article states how food security issues were greatest in the South, in inner cities across the nation, in families with a single parent, in Black and Hispanic households and in households with children. I feel that the people that have more people in their household suffers tge most because since it's so many people that they have to divide their portions so much to where its basically like they have anything on their plate

Food pantries' primary reason they exist in the world is to help people that suffer from hunger. According to this link hunger is a term that has 3 meanings. One meaning states that hunger is an exhausted condition caused by want of food. A second meaning stating that hunger is the want or scarcity of food in a country. The last meaning stating that hunger is a strong desire or craving. The link also talks about the number of people that suffers from hunger which is what I will be ppsing to the audience at the CSW.

I find this article to be pretty Interesting. It was Basically About how a guy named Ewing that was unemployed and live in his Volkswagon van back in 1979. Then he decided that he wanted to do something and he went to volunteer for a food pantry and now he ended up preparing to take a step down as an executive director of the no profit organization. Its crazy how some people can just wake up and want to actually do something good no only for themselves but for other people too.

Memo 5 CSW Ideas

For my research paper I researched about what was the main reason the Fish and Loaves Community Food Pantry provided food assistance for people. So the plan I had for CSW was to prove the audience how much of an impact food pantries/food banks/etc. have on communities. Coming up with ideas for my CSW project has been pretty tough because I've been thinking of multiple ways to prove someone how much of an impact food pantries have in a matter of minutes in a creative way. But I am still not sure if thats the point I want get across for my audience. An idea that I had was to just show a couple graphs and charts that shows percentages of how many people go to food pantries to get food or use food stamps to get food. The purpose of this idea will just show the audience accurate information of how many people use food pantries or food stamps. Another idea I had involves actually bringing in artifacts. The food pantry I researched was called "Fish and Loaves" so I thinking about bringing in a couple loaves of bread and have each loaves be used to once again be shown how many people depend of food pantries or not. Food pantries purpose in the world is to help people that suffer from hunger so that goes along with my last idea. I could display 2 different situations with one situation showing how someone suffering from hunger lives and the other showing how someone who doesn't suffer from hunger. I don't know everyone's life but I believe most of us in our generation doesn't suffer from hunger including myself so my purpose will basically be able to show the audience what it will actually be like if they did suffer from hunger. I feel that it will be more interesting for the audience to know and will get more out of it. So as you can see I am pretty undecided with some of my ideas and hopefully I will be able to come up with a clear plan after meeting with Professor Montgomery at my appointment.

This is the logo of this specific pantry im guessing but the meaning of the words can go for every food pantry in the world. There's not one person that controls one food pantry to run a food pantry. There's a huge group of individuals that all come together as a whole and work together to provide hunger relief in our community just like the picture says. That's really what all of these food pantries are all about is working together to help everyone out in our community which is for a really good cause.

Child poverty figures in developed countries released by Unicef in 2011.  United States ranks 2nd highest.  Time for more austerity.  They can starve a little longer and go without health care if it will protect the profits of the wealthy.

As much as Americans want to look outside our own country for someone to help, please remember that America has poverty. That every city, town, and county has poverty. Help your neighbor and don’t let a donation to help a starving child in a far off place make you forget the needs close to home.

I found another quote in the Bible dealing with food that somewhay relates to my topic in a way. The quote is from Genesis Chapter 9 verse 3 that states, " Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything." I truly believe in that verse of the Bible because I also feel that every living thing or human being should always have a way to have food to eat. I believe that explains why there are so many faith-based food pantries out here because first off they are thought of and created by churches just like the Fish and Loaves food pantry from my research.

This winter has by far been one of the worse winters we have ever had. Its so bad that it affected so many familes causing their heat bills to be so extreme that they have a hard time getting by in life. They have no choice but to depend on food pantries and these food pantries know how bad it is that they prepare themselves ahead of time for a lot of people needing assistance. In this case Kupchick food bank gets their products from wal mart and restaurants so they are able to to assist many food pantries if they run out of supplies.

I found a very touching and meaningful quote by Nelson Mandela that states " Overcoming poverty is not a task of charity, it is an act of justice. Like Slavery and Apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. Sometimes it falls on a generation to be great." This quote is so touching to me because it is literally so true. It is very possible to overcome poverty you just have to sit down and think about what actions you have do change your situation around. Really that not only with just poverty, that can actually go for anything to overcome in life. I also agree with Mandela as he says it falls on a generation to be great because I believe that there are challenges you come across in order to be great.

This article talks about how a food bank of Yuma residents plan an initiative to have a lot of lemonade stands to raise money for an organization's capital campaign. I think that is a pretty cool that they brought a very old idea to raise money because I remember making a lemonade stand when I was a little kid. I really think it was interesting that the Yuma Community Food Bank is taking the money they make for a good cause by giving back and that they don't care how much money they end up with because the CEO of the food bank said "We will be grateful for any amount that they raise."

Poverty is not a choice. People do not choose to be poor. There are reasons why they are poor and most of those reasons are entirely out of their control.

I think this article is pretty true. Poverty is really not a choice. I mean if you think about it why would someone decide to sit on the side of the road asking for money? Poverty is such a terrible thing that some people can't even control it can just happen. The changes and downfalls they've had in the government has really caused many people to fall into the poverty cycle and they can't do anything about it.

This is a most recent blog I found written on February 14th 2014. It says how Congress past the new Farm Bill that swept changes to agriculture, nutrition, in conservation in the U.S. Feeding America. I think it was pretty interesting how it said the U.S Feeding America fought hard and for a long time for this bill to get passed. It showed how dedicated and how much they care about having a hunger-free America. Hunger is becoming so common for people in this world lately and there should be more help going on instead of only just from the local food banks and soup kitchens out here.

It's absolutely crazy to read about how many americans suffer from losing their jobs, their homes, and also going to bed every night starving just because the economy had its downfall. The article talks about the number of these people drastically increased in the Baltimore County and Kent County that food banks have a hard time keeping up serving these people with food. In the previous year a food bank distributed 18.6 million poinds of food and that was only to satisfy a fraction of people needed. So that's even more terrible knowing even food banks are struggling to help these people out.
