God cares about your holiness.
I keep seeing all these posts going around saying, âIt doesnât matter what youâve done in the past! God will forgive you!â
And, yes, thatâs true. God will forgive you for your past sins if you confess those sin to Him.Â
But I think that we also need to remember that God can keep you from sinning in the first place. Heâd rather you would strive to be holy than have to be continually forgiven. And while He will never stop forgiving, I think itâs just as important to stress that God cares about you not sinning. God wants you to fight sin in your life. He wants you to be pure and holy.
Think of it this way. We are ambassadors to the world for Christ. That means we are representing Christ to those who do not know Him. Obviously God can forgive us for sin, but how are others supposed to know that? Isnât it better to be holy, since God is holy, and we are representatives of God?
Remember David? God forgave David for adultery and murder. In the 51st Psalm, David pours out his heart to the Lord and asks for forgiveness, genuinely heartbroken over how he had sinned and broken Godâs heart. And God forgave him and was merciful to him. But God still rebuked him and punished him, because, according to II Samuel 12:14, it gave the enemies of God a reason to blaspheme. Now people who hated God could point at David and say, âWell, HE did it and he follows God, so I guess it doesnât matter what I do!â
We ought to want to be holy because we love God, but we need to be holy because we belong to God. So, letâs not excuse sin because we know weâll be forgiven. Letâs fight against sin, because we know that this will please God.
Amen! Even if you fail, repent as many times as you need to because the road to holiness isnât easy. But be encouraged that God knows your heart. Donât stay stuck in guilt. Pursue God in the way He is leading you, and put your focus on Him. Donât put your focus on your sins or your failures. By putting your eyes on God, He will lead you to freedom and breakthrough.Â
just listened to a teaching about this. salvation is not a transaction but a transformation. the goal of salvation is not just to go to heaven but to be drawn into union with God and apprenticeship to Jesus.
