Further Adventures of The GMA

Let’s get up to speed.

Tunneled under Faltower to reach the docks, explored a ship, destroyed a swarm of rats, almost lost the Monk. Discovered Magical Items

Traveled up a hillside and camped in an outcropping.  Woke to find a homebrewed creature based on a RL coworker. Giant creature with Giant scissors - a creature the feature of a nightmare childrens story to remind you not to run with scissors.  Lost the Fairy.

Encountered the Zombie Townsfolk, talked to the being controlling them, discovered that the guard abused his position in a violent, adult way.  Convinced the voice to let us through.  Headed toward his base, the glowing remnants of a fallen tower that gives the town its name.

On the road we noticed a plume of smoke, set out to discover the source was a small hut.  Met a character named Baba who gave us magical items and riddles about the future.  Left us with a house that has giant chicken-like legs.

At the tower we entered and discovered ourselves in the past.  We explored, fought displacer beasts, almost lost the monk, and learned of the inhabitants of the tower. Met a Dragonborn Barbarian. Discovered the plot to sacrifice one of the inhabitants to the god of a cult.  Met the voice, a ‘chronomancer’ who traveled through time to save the life of the woman who was/is/will be sacrificed. Joined his cause to destroy the cult before they formed almost a millennia prior to our normal timeline.

Hints that Half-elf could be descendant of previously mentioned sacrifice, cult forming in the Underdark, half-elf is on a quest to kill her father, who may be in the Underdark at this very point in history.

Travelling to cave with entrance to Underdark, encountered starving owlbears, almost lost the monk. Encountered a bugbear and goblins that had captured a unicorn, almost lost the monk (wait did we?), killed them and rescued the unicorn.  Discovered there is a shadow thing in the forest turning creatures inside out. Decide to travel out of our way to the forest

Red dreams of the forest, finds an obelisk, hears a new phrase before waking. “Eld Fen.”

Encounter a Hill Giant, almost lose the monk, bed down.

Red finds Faltower

Along his travels, Red follows the advise given to him by his dreams and learns he has some magic ability, and meets up with a Fairy Rogue with a wild personality and they travel together for a time as he learns his skills.

Red dreams of a giant barnacle over his head and after some research discovers, and travels to the Barnacle Beak Inn in Faltower where an enormous barnacle hangs over the bar, somehow positioned to appear ready to attack it’s patrons.

Their first night there the pair enjoy some beverages until the evening is disturbed by a guard in a high state of hysteria. Apparently the town is dead silent beyond the Inn walls and he is hearing voices.  We come to learn that the barkeeper knows this guard as a drunk who is prone to wild stories.  Red steps in to offer the guard a drink in exchange for the rest of the story. Three other patrons are also curious so the six of them return to Red’s table.

A very drunk Tiefling Monk, a Half-elf Rogue, and a High-elf Druid join the guard and the Fairy at the Warlock’s table.  As the guard calms down to tell the story he interrupts himself with shouts, stands, and his body crumples as if a vacuum is created inside him.

Trying to determine what happened the group looks outside to find the tavern surrounded by the citizens of Faltower standing shoulder to shoulder in some sort of trance.  The warlock reaches out telepathically to find each mind only filled with static.  The back door yields the same results.  A couple of members of the party attempt to attack some members of the citizenry, causing damage but not opening the wall.

Retreating to the Inn, they discover the patrons have disappeared under a trapdoor in the floor of the kitchen.  They follow.

HA-larious

So I haven’t been on tumblr in a while and returned to write some current DnD character/campaign inspired stuff.  Spoiler: our group is called the Glitter-Mane Alliance because of an inside joke after an encounter with a unicorn. So I used the tag #GMA.

When I revisted the post in my feed there is this little Watch Free thing added and I’m like, ‘what’s this feature?’ I thought something stupid, that maybe they turned text posts into videos of some sort

Blood Wave - “Red”

On a mountainous island an evening came when the seaweed and algae bloomed together to turn the sea a violent shade of red. As the sun set a single life fought its way to our realm. The only child born to the island this evening was a Tabaxi male with orange tinted tan fur, covered with small ringlike spots, the largest of these surrounding his left eye. Green eyes opened into a world that would show him a harsh life.

Named after the sea phenomenon, Blood Wave grew up on an island with peoples that treated him with a reverence that was only fear in disguise.  Any relationships he managed to maintain were due to his effort and learned charisma.  Most interactions left him wanting, all too aware of the false faces he was shown.  An only child, his parents treated him the way he expected any child was treated, with love and with anything he needed that they could provide. 

Blood Wave got shortened to Red over time in an effort to dim the memory of the event that occurred on the evening of his birth. An event that still caused many distress despite the fact that his birth was the only major thing to happen on that date.

Red retreated into his own life when possible, simply to avoid the interactions that drained him and left him feeling empty. He enjoyed reading and was often caught daydreaming.  Eventually those daydreams became full dreams, tinged with what he could only call personal prophecy. If he ignored them or tried to change them they would turn into nightmares, both figuratively and literally. The first of these that he ignored lead to the house fire of a neighbor.

In his teenage years, Red withdrew more than previously and one day found himself in a mental hole he could not escape, like the island he lived on.  He traveled to the highest mountain on the island and attempted to convince his body to fling him from the peak.

His body froze and Red found himself in a dream, his body hairless and burning in a purple fire of magic. He felt the pain and as it left him the dream changed. He was on a ship headed with the Island falling away behind him. He felt his own voice in his head, If you want to leave, leave, but not this way, I will provide.

Red returned home and spent 3 miserable days trying to make sense of his own weakness before a commotion brought him and all of the residents of the island to a northern beach, where a ship had ridden up onto the sand. The ship looked like that in his vision.

He negotiated with the crew and after the damage to the vessel was repaired and dug out from the beach Red was on the ship, a bag of prized possessions and maps with him.

Yeah when it comes to actual awards and fancy goods, but when it comes to basic needs, basic human decency, and accomodations, those things should always be handed to people. No one should have to “earn” those things.Value people as people, not base it on how much they produce.

Actually studies show that people who live in places with universal income (who are given money with no strings attached just for being citizens) do far better work than those who don’t and are more enthusiastic to do work.

This is because they still want nice things and will work for those but the part of their energy that was devoted to worrying about if they have enough money to pay the rent and bills this month is now freed up to do other things.

Some people will always be lazy and take advantage of the system, but they are always a tiny percentage and it seems ridiculous to me to punish the majority and severly hamstring their abilities just because a handful of people will simply live of basic income rather than work.

It’s been tested a couple times. In Canada, in some European countries, and the results are always the same. There are two groups of people who show a statistically significant (Greater than one half of one percent, or 1 in 200) increase in Not Working and living off the guaranteed income. Parents of Children under school age, and full time students. Among ALL other groups, employment actually INCREASED. Why? Because guaranteed minimum income means that homeless people can get at least a basic low end apartment. It’s hard if not impossible to get an above board job without a permanent fixed address. Also more people were able to have and maintain a BANK ACCOUNT. It is often hard to get a decent job without an account that can accept Direct Deposit for paychecks. Also, lost work time due to illness and injury decreased across the board. It turns out if people are getting a decent amount of money each month they can A> afford to eat better, and B> obtain decent medical attention both preventative and emergency. Crazy right? So why hasn’t it caught on? Because it doesn’t directly benefit the people in power, and it increases THEIR PERSONAL taxes, their CORPORATE TAXES, and thus decreases their PERSONAL INCOME. So, because Jeff Bezos and Alan Greenspan might fall from making 100 billion dollars a year to making 99.8 billion dollars a year, it’s a hard NO and we can all fucking die.. The End.

I would be far happier with this on top of minimum wage than with what I’m making now, which while I’m fortunate to make, doesn’t last beyond bills and often leaves me surviving on the kindness of others.
