Here’s another little-known bat fact:
Orphaned baby bats are often swaddled tightly like teeny burritos to mimic being cuddled by mom and help ease separation anxiety.
They also seem to find pacifiers soothing.
I’m pretty sure I’ve posted on this before, but there’s always someone who hasn’t heard about this before. Plus, I’ll happily take any excuse I can to post cute baby animal pics (especially when they’re wrapped like tiny furry burritos) :)

Sometimes, Catherine found herself in interesting situations. Begging her best friend for an assignment? A little embarrassing. Meeting a famous celebrity because of it? Interesting. Finding herself overthinking everything? Typical.
This wasn’t new to her.

---------------
“And remember to always be nice. No rude comments. Literature. Talk about poets. Writers. The universe. Whatever, just-”
“Breathe, Jane. Jeez, you seem to be more nervous than I am. And I am the one going on a date with a super hot AND intelligent girl.” Anne groaned nervously and played with her own fingers.
“You’re right. I am sorry. We talked through this, okay? If there’s anything I can do to help just leave me a text message.” Seymour sighed before pulling the girl into a tight hug. Boleyn enjoyed the motherly gesture and wrapped her arms around the woman's waist.
“And now you may want to turn around and adore this 'intelligent and hot’ date of yours.” Jane whispered and turned the girl around.
Anne gasped loudly as she spotted Cathy walking down the stairs, greeting her with a big smile.
“You look-” Anne began, struggling to find the right word to describe the goddess in front of her.
“Stunning? Gorgeous? Beautiful? Pretty?” Jane whispered suggestions.
“Bomb.” Anne finally finished the sentence with a grin, coaxing a chuckle out of her date.
Seymour sighed softly and pressed a kiss on each of their heads. “Alright, girls. Have the best time ever.”
“Thanks mum.” Anne rolled her eyes dramatically, before reaching for Cathy’s hand to lead her to the door. “Let’s leave this crazy lady alone.” She joked, but already made a mental note to thank Jane with a big flower bouquet. Without her help, this wouldn't have happened.
“And you planned all of this on your own?” Cathy asked with a chuckle as she entered the coffee shop.
“To be fair, Jane helped me out a bit.” Boleyn confessed, a tone of crimson creeping up on her cheeks. The smell of freshly baked cake and brewed coffee crawled up her nostrils and she took her coat off with a big smile on her face.
“That one over there, that’s out table.” Boleyn explained. It was hard for her to hide the excitement in her voice when she saw how pretty everything had turned out. The small table was located between high bookshelves and accompanied by two dark green armchairs. On top of the table was a pretty vase filled with orchids and roses. Jane had outdone herself. It looked like a small copy of every writer’s dream living room. The only thing missing was the fire place, but the fresh cake and heavenly coffee made up for it.
“It looks so pretty!” Cathy exhaled in disbelief and immediately claimed the chair that was closest to the shelves.
Boleyn sat down opposite her with a chuckle. Just a second later a waiter arrived with a knowing grin on his face.
“Hi. Uhm. Can I have a large-”
“Large Americano with one milk and two sugar. Aaaand one vegan Apple Caramel Tarte.” Her interrupted the writer before she could finish her order. “Here you go.”
Parr watched him with big eyes whilst he was putting down the plates in front of her, then turned to Anne.
“How does he…..?”
“I told you we’re special guests today.” She chuckled and took a sip of her own coffee.
Cathy shook her head fascinated, then decided to give the Tarte a try.
“By the way...you- uhm...you’re allowed to take the flowers home.” Anne mumbled, her mouth filled with a bite of cupcake. A part of her was hoping Catherine couldn't hear her. Was that the right moment? To give her the flowers? They haven’t been here for half an hour and Anne was already giving her flowers… what if Cathy freaked? What if she thought she was a creep? What if-
“They’re for me?” The soft look in Parr’s eyes made Anne’s heart jump. She quickly swallowed and cleared her throat. “Y-yeah. I brought them. They’re for you.”
“They're wonderful… Thank you, Annie.” Parr smiled her warmest smile, then reached over the table to lovingly touch Boleyn’s hand.
“May I ask why Roses and Orchids?” Cathy smiled gently, leaving her hand on top of Anne’s whilst carefully stroking the flower’s petals with her free hand.
“Remember a few nights ago when we had that movie night? I asked you what’s your favourite…but I never got an answer. So I figured I’d get you both…” Anne knew her cheeks were burning red by now so all she could do was pray that her dare wouldn't notice.
“And what have I done to deserve this…? All of that?” Catherine let go of her hand to gesture around the café.
“Just being you, Cathy.” Boleyn answered with a smile. “That’s enough.”
The rest of the date went better than any of them could have wished for. Lots of laughter, stolen glances and excuses for constant body contact involved. Cathy could still feel the soft skin of Anne’s hand sliding into hers and intertwining their fingers on their way back home. It was a wonderful evening. Magic. Probably the best date Cathereine’s ever been on, she thought.
Caught up in thoughts she didn't even hear the soft knock on her door as she was taking her make-up off, ready to go to bed. In the reflection of her mirror she could suddenly see Cleve’s head popping in.
“Hey there, survivor. Mind if I come in?” Anna asked with a grin but didn't even wait for Parr to answer. Within a second Cleves found herself sitting cross-legged on Cathy’s bed. “Spill.” Her smirk grew even bigger.
“Well.” Parr tossed the used makeup wipe into the bin, then turned to look at the girl on her bed. “It was magical! I loved every second of it!” She had to restrain herself from squealing.
“That’s amazing!! And?”
“And what?” Parr asked confused.
“Did you kiss?”
Cathy nervously fidgeted in her chair. “We held hands…?”
“Catherine Fucking Parr.” Cleves threw her hands in the air with a loud groan. “She took you on a date, everything perfect and you miss the perfect chance to kiss her?!”
“I was nervous okay…?”
“That’s no excuse.” Anna huffed. “You better move your freaking arse to her room and kiss her.”
“Now??” Cathy yelped and shook her head fast.
“That’d be so awkward!”
“You do whatever you think is right, honey. Did you at least thank her for the date?”
All the colour drained from Parr’s face when she realised she has praised almost everything during this date but never, not with a single word, did she say ‘thank you’.
Cleves sighed loudly. “Yeah, you know what to do now.” She said with a wink before ruffling Parr’s curls. “Goodnight, kiddo.”
With that, Cleves left her alone.
Naked feet shuffled over the cold wooden floor of the old building as Cathy slowly made her way down the corridor. It was quiet, almost like no one was home. But Catherine knew it was just due to the late hour. They were probably asleep. Not Anne tho. Anne never went to bed before 2am. Therefore, Cathy had an hour left to talk to her. Just talk, right?
Geez, the past few days have been one hell of a emotional rollercoaster to Cathy. She didn't know what exactly was going on between the Boleyn girl and her and all she wanted was clarity.
Just...talk, Parr reminded herself, pushing Cleves words out of her mind.
Once she had reached Anne’s room she carefully pushed the door open, so lost in thoughts, she forgot to knock.
The fairy lights above Anne’s bed put the room into a golden and warm light. Cathy stopped in her tracks when she realised Boleyn wasn’t here. The sound of a flush sounded from the girls en-suite bathroom and Catherine jumped.
But when the door opened she couldn't help but stare.
Anne walked out, all ready to go to bed in a large white oversized shirt. Cathy’s cheeks blushed deep red when she realised the girl was, in fact, only wearing that shirt.
“Cath!” Anne cried out surprised, but soon started smiling. “You okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Her face turned serious in concern.
But Cathy wasn’t able to open her mouth, nor could she tear her eyes from the sight in front of her.
What happened next wasn’t something Cathy would ever be proud of, but also something she didn't know she was capable of until she did it.
Just a split second later she found herself pressed against a warm body, lips hungrily kissing the girl that was now trapped between herself and the wall.
Luckily, Anne didn't oppose and melted into the kiss, the second Cathy connected their lips.
Suddenly, Parr was scared. She didn't know this feeling, something so new and so overwhelming but she enjoyed it and took it all in, she let it drive her without breaks. Everything around her seemed to blurr. It was just her. Her and Anne. Her lip’s and Anne’s lips. Her body and Anne’s body. And the warm fairy lights that held the two lovers in a golden sea of passion.
Cathy knew she was drowning in it, completely and with no regrets.
A loud shriek caused Parr to sit up with a start.
“The gays have found each other!” Howards voice echoed through the house.
Confused and overwhelmed, Catherine rubbed her head. She winced, when suddenly a hand carefully caressed her bare back.
“What do you want, Kat?” Anne’s sleepy voice rang from besides her, sending a shiver down her spine.
Yesterday’s images creeped up in front of her eyes and she couldn't help but bite her lip in happiness.
If only she had this confidence all of the time.
“I wanted to call you downstairs for breakfast and- Cathy? Why are you not wearing a shirt?”
“We’ll be down in a second.” Anne answered her cousin, but Howard ignored her.
“And you neither, Anne? Are you guys oka- OH MY GOD. YOU ARE BOTH NAKED. YOU ARE-” Kat turned around to yell through the entire house again.
“THEY ARE NAKED. GUYS. THEY ARE NAKED.”
She kept repeating over and over again, until Anne threw a pillow at her.
“Shut up and close the door! Give us some space! Fucks sake. We’ll be down in a minute!” She rolled her eyes.
Once the door shut closed, Parr turned to look at Anne whose head was dangerously close.
“I really enjoyed last night…” Cathy mumbled what seemed appropriate for her to say.
“So did I.” Anne answered and breathed a gentle kiss on her lips, then carefully caressed her cheek.”I think it’d only be fair if I sleep over at yours tonight.” She added with a cheeky smirk.
“I’d be happy to offer you that spot next to me in my bed.” Catherine chuckled.
“What if I don’t want to be next to you?” Anne mumbled, her lips now tracing over the soft skin of Cathy’s neck.
“Where else would you want to be?” Parr asked confused.
“On top of you.” Cathy could feel the girl grinning against her skin.
“You’re such a child.” Catherine groaned and playfully nudged her shoulder.
Anne looked up with a smooth smile on her lips.
“And that’s why you love me.”
Easy words. A flirty tone. But a message so heavy and real, Cathy could feel her eyes tear up.
“That’s why I love you.” She whispered, her voice scratchy.
“And do you want to know a secret?” Boleyn asked, gently pushing the other girl’s chin up with a finger.
Parr slowly shook her head as she started into these green orbs in front of her.
“I love you too.”

“Don’t tell me what to do! This is my house! My rules!”
“Oh? So I am not allowed to have an opinion anymore?”
With a loud groan, Cathy covered her ears with both hands to block out the fight of her parents downstairs.
Lost and frustrated she stared at the brown boxes in the corner of her empty room.
The past few days have been hell and Parr didn't have the heart to unpack any of her stuff. Not yet.
Deep down, deep deep down she was still hoping that all of this was a joke.
That her mum would come into her room with an idiotic smile and yell “Gotcha, Cath!”
Then they’d all pack their bags and move back to London. Except for Cathy, she didn't need to pack anything. She knew this would happen. She was prepared.
The slam of a door downstairs snapped the girl back into brutal reality.
As much as she’d love that to happen - Cathy knew there was a 0% chance of her dreams becoming reality.
She sighed loudly and swung her legs off the bed.
The fact that her parents just filed a divorce wasn’t what made her sad. No. And hearing them fight downstairs just showed her once again how glad she was that it was finally happening.
But leaving her friends behind? Her school? All of her achievements? London? And moving into this small shithole called— crap, she already forgot the name.
Nothing was worse than that.
Without realising it, Parr suddenly found herself in the front yard of their house.
Prefect, at least she couldn't hear the screaming out here.
She sat down on the warm concrete and closed her eyes for a second to take in the warm summer night air.
“You have a lighter?”
Cathy jumped at the voice that suddenly rang in her ears. She opened her eyes again and turned her head, but the only thing she could see was the old wooden fence of their new house. Or was that-
She concentrated on the darkness, until she made out the silhouette of a girl sitting on the other side of the fence.
“Pardon me?” Catherine spoke up and moved closer.
“A lighter? Fire?” The girl repeated.
Cathy was now close enough to see her face through the fence.
Her light skin was practically shining in the dimmed light of the old street lamps. Her hair was as dark as the night itself, falling over her shoulders in soft waves.
Cathy could feel her dark eyes staring at her, but she wasn't in a rush. Not at all. She took her time to take in the beauty that was right in front of her.
Her cheekbones sharp, just line her jawline.
A small smile tugged on the girl’s lips as she realised Catherine was taking her sweet time to check her out.
Lips- Cathy gasped as her gaze fell upon her perfectly formed plump lips, a thin cigarette loosely stuck between them.
“You know smoking kills, right?” Finally, Parr spoke up.
“Exactly. That’s why I am doing it. Now, do you happen to have a lighter or not?” The girl seemed to grow impatient.
Cathy hurried to take the pink lighter out of her pocket.
No, she didn't smoke. She would never.
But she was proud owner of 23 different candles and a lighter could always come in handy.
“Finally.” The girl groaned as she lit her cigarette.
“You just moved in, right? Couple days ago?” She asked while blowing out some smoke, then handing the lighter back through the fence.
Parr nodded softly, immediately thinking about how badly she wanted to move back to London.
“Wow, you don’t seem too happy about it.” The girl stated.
Cathy just shrugged her shoulders. She didn't want that girl’s pity. She just wanted to go back home. Her real home. Her old life back.
As on cue, the front door flung open and her dad stormed out of the house in big steps.
“Oh, yeah! Run away! Again! That’s the only thing you can do, apparently!” Cathy’s mum yelled from the door.
A loud and angry slam of the door, then the headlights started blinding the two girls, until the car disappeared in the darkness.
Another slam indicated, that Parrs mum had left inside again.
For a few moments, silence hung in the warm summer air.
“Sorry that you had to see this.” Cathy finally mumbled and turned her head to face the girl again, but her eyes only found darkness.
“I think you need some distraction.” Parr turned to find her standing right in front of her. She was tall, definitely taller than Cathy herself. And probably only one or two years older than her.
Irritated, Catherine started at the hand the girl was offering her.
“I’m not gonna kidnap you, don’t worry.” The brunette laughed, then dropped the cigarette and stepped on it with her black boot.
Hesitantly, Catherine reached for her hand and was immediately pulled up on her feet. She stumbled a bit, but the girl held her by her shoulders to steady her.
Parr was so incredibly close to the stranger, she could smell her perfume. She smelled like summer, like strawberry fields and flowers, with a bitter hint of cigarette smoke. But Cathy was immediately addicted.
This split second felt like ages, until the girl released Cathy and turned around to walk towards one of the cars parked in their driveway.
“Bollocks.” Cathy heard her mutter.
“Left my keys inside and locked the door. Wellp, gotta walk then, kiddo.” She shrugged and signed Parr to follow her.
“Where are we going?” Cathy asked a little concerned for her own security.
But this girl seemed nice, trustworthy. Although for some reason Parr’s breath seemed to hitch every time the girl looked at her.
She’s well intimidating, that might be the reason, Cathy thought and shook the thought out of her mind.
“Not gonna tell you.” The girl chuckled and turned on her heels, now walking backwards to face Cathy.
“Are you sure you’re not gonna kidnap me? Kinda sounds like it you know…”
The girls lips curved up into an mischievous grin.
“I know we only know each other for ten minutes. But you gotta trust me, honey.”
Honey. Honey. Honey.
“That’s what Georgie heard before he was eaten by a clown.” Cathy answered, trying to look somewhere else but the girl’s face.
“Mh. Let me rephrase that. Do you like adventures?”
“I like adventure books. Yes.”
“But have you ever been on one?” She asked and pushed her dark hair back, checking out Cathy’s face.
Parr remained quiet.
“Well, we’re about to change that.”
Cathy lifted her head to gaze into the girl's mischievously sparkling eyes. Now, under the street lights, Cathrine could finally make out their colour.
Dark lashes framing beautiful, big eyes with dark green orbs. Green? Or was it blue? Or maybe a mixture…
“I don’t even know your name.”
“Neither do I know yours.” The girl shot back, not breaking eye contact for a second.
“I’m Catherine. Catherine Parr.” Cathy introduced herself, palms suddenly sweaty.
“Well, Cath. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” The girl suddenly stopped in her tracks and Cathy had to jump to not run into her.
With a soft chuckle she watched her dramatically taking a bow in the middle of the street, then charmingly reaching for Cathy’s hand to place a soft kiss on top of it.
“The name’s Anne.
Anne Boleyn.”
THE CONTENT WE DESERVE
I'm so sorry for this - I originally wasn't going to post but I feel obligated to give some content, even if it isn't much. All I can say is that I tried and hopefully I'll get back on track soon.
Words: 1238
Trigger warning: sadness, sex euphemisms/innuendos
-
Waking up next to him never truly felt right.
It was cold, and even with his arms around her, Catherine felt so displaced, so out of her body. The place in his arms that she was filling was supposed to be occupied by another; anyone - anyone other than her so that she could stay alone in her room.
Her room felt better, with all of its pages and candles, the pale grey paper that lined the walls felt much more comfortable than stale cream of his ever did. When she craved touch, she returned to her desk, to continue her endless scrawl, her search, her letters for something just beyond her reach. Something too complex to fathom.
Love.
Was it truly love that she felt when she lusted to be in his bed? Was it love that drew her back to his quarters no matter how hard she willed herself not? Was it love at all? -or was it just sadness.
Perhaps it was the sadness that reeled her back to him, the leaching demon of her self expression lurking just past the doors of moving on, waiting to pounce and reduce her to the shell of a woman, of a girl, that she was once before. The sadness, her best friend, her worst enemy. The one that consoled her on the nights in cold sheets, the one to wrap its arms around her and let her cry until she could no more, her only company in her life spent lonely.
Catherine saw it in the shadows, even on the days with the brightest, scorching blaze of day whenever she withdrew to the shade, the irking doubt came waltzing in, taking her hand and dancing with her fragile hope until the break of dawn.
That was until she met the girl with the sun in her smile.
Anne Boleyn was a girl she met when she tumbled through the doors, 15 minutes after the lecture had started on the first day. She was rather petite, having thrown herself into the seat next to Catherine, hoping (and succeeding) in taking the notes that were within the taller girl's books.
It was a tradition that she was late, Parr was the find out. That was why she was never scolded, or reprimanded, because her consistent high grade compensated for her absence. And each day, one after the other, she sacrificed her notes to the feisty girl, watching her as she desperately paraphrased her sentences in an immaculate effort to catch up.
She had nice handwriting, too. It was strange - but Catherine would love to have as good a penmanship as she did. Though frantic, her letters and formation remained uniform, a constant through the distress.
Parr found herself confiding in this girl, exchanging contacts, sliding her post-its with soft grins.
The way Anne's pen formed her name made her stomach sink and her toes curl, and her voice when she had begun her expedition for permission to call her 'Cathy'.
Soon after granting her the title, the Cathy disappeared, and it was replaced with mon cœur, most often. Sometimes mon amour, ma chérie, if Anne was feeling nice.
That was what had brought her to Anne's flat, to where she lived alone, sustaining herself on microwaveable food, her studies and her art work.
One of the more prominent features of Anne's environment was that it was covered in art, paintings and sketches and intricate linings of silhouettes and figures. The coverings beneath didn't particularly matter because the walls were full of life: they told the story of Boleyn.
"What does this one mean?" Parr asks, one day, voice low and gentle, not wanting to rouse the other girl too much. There's a soft swish of air before she appears next to her, a grin peaking her lips. The painting was of a tree, large and bulky and streaking down the page. Strokes of paint are large and blotchy, though only the tree; the remaining scenery, the entire left side of the page, was completely made with the smallest brush. It was a sky of deep orange that blends to perfection to a fading yellow, and shaded with tinted clouds rolling alone a sole horizon. Water below it reflects the gorgeous golden hue of the vastness above. Though it was far from realistic, it was passionate, and the images seem so surreal but so familiar, so close but so far.
"I painted that after the first class of this year." Anne beams, peeling the paper upwards to reveal the flipside, showing a mess of swatches and the date it was made, plus the name of the piece. 'Her.'
"It was the first day I spoke to you!" She shakes her head, the stupid grin not quite leaving her cheeks. "I remember thinking something about how long your legs were- all good- don't worry- I'm not complaining- but- and then just how beautiful you were. You were so effortless and natural and you were just there. A goddess in the midst of people. A tree amongst the ocean."
"Strangely insightful." Catherine stoops, tilting her head towards the Boleyn girl. "Do all of your works have such deep meaning?"
"Nah. Most of 'em are just 'cause I got bored and inspired when no-one would give me attention."
"Still a story, nonetheless." She says with a shrug, eyes falling to the wall again. "Did I ever tell you how beautiful your drawings are? They look like they have been crafted to perfection by an angel."
"That's because they were, duh." She teases, taking Parr's sleeve between her index and her thumb, pulling her to the sofa, where she folds herself, allowing the taller girl to sit across from her.
Catherine's lips never waver from their smile. "Are we watching a film?"
"Mhm! Go ahead, mon amour, put whatever you want on." Without fail, every time Anne spoke a word of French a shiver slathered down her spine. The way her voice changed, her tone shifted to account for the foreign language- the way it rolled off of her tongue like it was natural for her. Still, Catherine manifested with the remote after she had bent to get it, flicking the TV on and scrolling through Netflix, finding a true-crime documentary and settling into the arm of the sofa.
While she was so infatuated with the screen, Anne took the time to pick up a pad of paper and a charcoal pencil, and in time, depicting the love of her life onto the paper, from her shoulder blades to the curls of her hair to her fingertips, resting against a leg. The straps of her shirt falling down her arm, resting. Catherine didn't have to pose for beauty, she didn't have to pose for her to be a muse. Catherine just had to be.
She had caught her, and had smiled and kissed her hands and her lips and her neck in a gift of thanks in the hours afterwards. Her Anne, whose hands were gifted with the talent of artistic expression (and many other things, she'd discover).
Waking up next to her felt so, very right.
It was warm, and she would wrap her arms around Anne after too long of who-knows-what. She felt a home around Anne: a place of belonging and occupancy, where they were neither themselves nor each other - just lovers, loving in the only way they knew how to.
Together.

“Anne?”
Pity filled eyes stared at the back of the barista’s head, causing heat to prickle against her skin. A strangled sound ripped through her throat echoing through the small room Anne had trapped herself in.
“What are you doing in here? The cafe closed an hour ago-”
“Can I just be alone?” Anne mumbled, her voice cracking painfully with loud sniffles following. “Please.”
Anna felt her heart crack.

Hello everyone! Today I come to you, not with an update for WAJMS, but a hella long one shot! (12.8k yooooo).
This is a bit different, as it is also on AO3. But it being such a long length, and my deadline coming up, I figured this would be the best place to update it on.
