Fashion Spotlight: Damaris Lewis
New York bred renaissance woman Damaris Lewis has already done it all. She’s modeled internationally for the likes of Saint Laurent and MAC, was handpicked by Prince to dance beside him on tour, and acted in Oscar winning film (BlacKkKlansman). Her latest venture is Siram, a wellness and lifestyle editorial platform. We caught up with Damaris on her latest project & more.
How did the idea for Siram come about?
I realized wellness was starting to become trendy, to look like something instead of feel like something. Every living thing on this planet is wellness and aids to wellness, so Siram is a place that does not exclude anyone based upon where they live, what they look like, and what they have access to. It is more important to eat, sleep, and live well than it is to try and find the perfect way to do each of those things. Siram was created to be a guide to a lifestyle rooted in relaxation over stress.
When did you realize you wanted to do something creative professionally?
I’ve always been a creative. I was born a creative, so it only made sense that I begin my own platform at some point in this life. I get a lot of joy out of healing myself and others based upon what I have experienced and what I am always learning and it was time to share that with the world.
When are you most at peace?
I am most at peace when I am in the sun, and specifically standing or lying still. It’s as if I am a plant who is simply being and thus receiving countless mind, body, and soul benefits.
What’s your greatest fashion memory?
My greatest fashion memory would hands down have to be walking onto the carpet last year at the Cannes Film Festival for our film BlacKkKlansman dressed in head to toe Off White and styled by Sara Klausing. Dressed in all white on that carpet reminded me that standing out can always be one’s best quality.
You balance film work & fashion so beautifully; what are the biggest challenges & rewards with both?
The biggest challenge between the two worlds is losing the egos that I have built up and associated with both. I am actively working to get to a place where the two can coexist. Not model Damaris or actress Damaris, just Damaris. More so for my mind than for entertainment purposes.
What makes you happy right now?
Right now, it’s knowing that I am shifting my awareness from trying to be to being. Life happens on a different vibration when you don’t give other people power over you. Something that is very hard to do, but worth the journey.
