Dancers Ajani Johnson-Goffe and Emma Portner reclaim an East London Theatre constructed in a period of social intolerance, legal repression, and cultural marginalisation. Set to the song “Spook” by Adult Jazz, who’s album is explained as “The idea of Queering things” … the two carve through through the implicit oppositional issues of private vs. public, quiet vs. loud and seen vs. watched. As performers adhered to an auditorium, they deconstruct the confines what it means to perform. Moving boldly as a form of existence with a quest to belong. Contemporary issues placed in a historical context with historical issues placed in contemporary movements.
