Xoxo, M. 🧜♂️💙
“Is this really necessary?” You tug at the rope binding your wrists.
“Sorry.” Adrian rubs his jaw before slipping his mask back on. “You throw a mean right hook, you know that?” His gloved hands push you along through the tall grass and towards the bike. You glance over your shoulder. The car is parked where you left your Adrian, but there's no movement. Where is he?
“He's going to kill you.” You hiss.
“He'll understand once I talk to him. Besides, I left a note.”
You suck in a breath and break away from him. “Adria-”
But he grabs you, lifting you off your feet and squeezing the air from your lungs. “I’m right here.” His voice is soft in your ear, sending chills up and down your body.
“Adrian, please…”
“I promise. This won't be so bad.” He drops you next to his motorcycle. ”Get on the bike.”
You hesitate.
“Please, trust me. It's me. ” His voice breaks around the last word, and you soften. He may have five more years worth of silver in his hair, but you saw it in his eyes. This is Adrian, your Adrian.
Clearly he has plans for you and he isn't going to let you leave without a fight. You just don't have it in you to hurt him. With one last glance back, you slide onto the seat. Adrian's fingers deftly loosen the rope from your wrists and he slips in front of you.
“Hang on tight.” You hear the smile in the tenor of his voice, a voice you know so well. Then the sound of the engine fills your ears and the bike shoots forward down the path and towards the darkening horizon.
Even though you're sure your head can't spin any faster, the landscape begins whizzing by at a dizzying speed
Leaning tight against his broad back, your arms tighten around his waist. As one gloved hand slides protectively over yours, you squeeze your eyes closed, hoping that the man you left behind can forgive you.
---
When Adrian shoulders his way into the safehouse, Ads, Chris, and Larry are sitting in one of the booths waiting for him.
He slams the knife down, skewering the table. The note floats down and Chris grabs it.
“I found that pinned to a fucking tree. The bastard knew we were following him and planned it out!”
Adrian thought he was going to pass out when he looked up after hanging up with Chris and didn't see you coming back. His knee jerk reaction was to wait just a moment longer, but when he realized the bike was gone he sprinted towards where it was parked last. He studied the tire groove in the ground where the bike had peeled off from for less than a breath before he started calling your name, searching frantically. What if you were lying somewhere hurt? He was close to the copse of trees you disappeared into, ready to start the search, when he saw the glint of a blade Vigilante had left in the tree. A note was skewered to the trunk.
He gripped the blade, knuckles turning white, as he read it. “She's safe. You'll understand why later. Meet at the coordinates below. Tomorrow at dusk.”
Without you, the drive back to the safe house was cold and quiet. He barely survived accepting that he lost you once. The fact that he wasn't there when you needed him, that he let you slip through his fingers a second time, tore at him like a feral animal trapped in his rib cage.
Ads makes a skeptical sound low in her throat, pulling him back into the present.
“I mean, he's you, you couldn't foresee this happening?”, she says softly, hands spread. “He lost her four years ago. What would you do if you were him?”
“Fuck!” Adrian tugs his curls. “I don't know, have a conversation? Not just … wisk her off on my fucking rad motorcycle.”
“Dude, it sounds like you'd totally do that.” Chris's lip curls and his brow raises. “It says right here when and where to meet them.”
Adrian's hands are knit, resting on the top of his head. He looks up at the dingy ceiling tiles, blinking back tears. “What if he hurts her?”
“Adrian, you would never hurt her!” Adebayo stands and lays a soothing hand on him. “Annoy her? Definitely. But never hurt her.”
A smile pulls at her lips. “The reality is, right now, he’s probably telling her all about how manta rays are born curled up like little burritos or that spiders can break dance.” Adebayo's eyes widen and she shoots a glance at Chris.
Chris stands abruptly. “Yeah man, it's okay. We're going to look up these coordinates he left and go get her. Don't worry.”
“Really?” Adrian studies his friend.
“Yeah, of course.” Chris smiles sadly. “We struck out tonight too. Didn't even get a glimpse of Emilia.” Chris clears his throat. “So, it looks like it's just us guys again.”
“And me, I'm here too.” Ads reminds him.
“Yeah, and Adebayo.” Chris says quickly. “But what I mean is our girls are gone and we're going to save them. This is some epic quest shit!”
“Technically, your girls are probably both with you, just the you's from the future...”
“Ads, can you just let us have our moment?” Chris says, pulling Adrian into a one armed hug.
Adrian glances at Larry who's laying on his back in a booth and tossing peanuts into his mouth. “Where's Rip?”
“I don't know what that little fucker gets up to.” Chris shrugs. “Probably had to go do some ninja shit for Flag.”
Larry sits up at this, gestures and chortles. Chris laughs. “Another banger man, where do you get this shit?”
“What’d he say?” Adrian asks, looking between the alien and Chris.
“He said we should go to the bar and have a few brewskis. It'll help us focus.” Chris grins and pulls Larry to his feet. He shoots a glance over his shoulder at Adrian. “You coming?”
The bar is packed. Luckily Adrian, Chris, Larry, and Adebayo squeeze into an empty table in the corner next to the old juke box machine and the dart board.
“What the hell, why is everyone and their grandmother here?” Chris complains. “Smells like a high-school locker room.”
“Chris, do you see many other places in town open?” Adebayo sits back in her seat shaking her head. “Pretty sure this is one of the last vestiges left of the dank crusty humanity that embodies our fair Evergreen.” She tips her beer bottle towards Larry. “Glad you're here to see it.”
“Cheers, fuckers!” Chris grins and raises his beer.
Adrian inclines his head and clinks his bottle with the others before taking a sip and setting it down.
Chris bumps his shoulder. “Before we get too deep into our cups, let's go over the plan for tomorrow.”
Adrian's head snaps up at this. “I looked up the coordinates, it's the abandoned subway system out near the lumber mill.”
“Oh, shit. I remember! Me and Gut always used to go down there to mess around with chicks and smoke the devil's lettuce.” Chris smiles nostalgically.
“What the hell! Is that why you guys never let me come with you?” Adrian’s nose scrunches.
“No way, dude.” Chris's voice shoots up an octave. “We totally wanted you to come.”
“Then why did you let Gut tie me to the flag pole outside your house when I asked?”
“We were doing you a favor.” Chris's eyes dart around the table before he leans forward and lowers his voice.
“Adrian, you were afraid of the basement at school because the radiator was loud."
“Everyone knew that evil clanking came from the pits of hell! Besides, your little stunt had everyone calling me Pole Boy my entire freshman year!”
Adebayo snorts. “Pole Boy? That's not even original.”
Grimacing Adrian takes a slug of his beer and sinks lower into his chair. “Somehow that made it worse.”
Chris drains his beer and rubs his hands together. “Anyways, you finally get to go now! It says dusk. Not really sure what that means…”
“Dusk is when twilight ends and true night begins.” Adebayo raises her brows.
“Okay so…”
“Just before ten o'clock…”
“I’m not waiting that long.” Adrian leans forward, elbows on the table. “We get there as early as we can and stake it out until they come.” He slices his hand down in a chopping motion, thudding it on the table. “We cut them off before they even know what's happening.”
“Adrian, listen to yourself…”
Chris holds a hand up to quiet her. “Ads I know you're trying to help, but I think it's the perfect plan. Adrian has it right. We get there early and fix this as soon as we can.”
“Thank you!” Adrian grins a wide bright smile.
“I got your back, bro.” Chris winks before his eyes widen. “Hey, I bet you can't beat me in a round of darts!” Then he stands and cracks his knuckles.
Adrian jumps out of his seat. “Oh, you're on!”
---
When the bike begins to slow, you untuck your face from Adrian's shoulder and blink against the misty rain. With the exception of the street lights reflecting off the wet road, and the few neon signs of businesses still open to patrons, Evergreen is dark.
Despite the windows and doors being blacked out and boarded up, you recognize The 11th Street Kids' old headquarters immediately.
Finger combing your tangled hair back from your face, you accept Adrian's hand when he offers to help you off the bike. Knees shaking, you slide off the seat and into his arms.
“You okay?” His strong grip holds you up by your elbows. No, you're really not okay. You're in another dimension, in another time, kidnapped by the love of your life's deranged future self.
You swallow back the truth. “Why are we here?” Of all places, he's brought you back to the beginning.
“It's off Flag's and Luthor's radar. It's safe, I promise.”
“But why did you bring me here?”
“You'll see.” When he pulls his mask off his brows are knit under his tuft of loose curls. “Trust me.”
“I'm trying Adrian, but this is all… it's all so crazy.” Tears spring to your eyes and the question you'd been denying yourself answers to tumbles from your lips. “What happened to us? To you?”
Adrian presses his lips together, eyes tracking the ripples of a nearby puddle as a gentle rain begins to fall around you. You blink up at him, rain drops and tears cling heavy to your lashes.
“I… I lost you. I trusted someone I shouldn't have.” His voice wobbles, eyes squeezing shut as if replaying what happened in his mind.
“Chris.”
“Peacemaker.” He corrects. His eyes finally meet yours. “I’m the one that's supposed to be buried in the ground. Not you.” Even with the darkness cloaking the street, his eyes are bright. “It was never supposed to be you.”
His gloved hand reaches up and cups your cheek. You lean into it, savoring the warmth and familiar touch as his thumb caresses away the rain and tears.
“I still can't believe you're here.” His voice is barely above a whisper as he leans in, lips brushing yours. Pushing away the desire to chase the sadness in his eyes away with a kiss, you turn your face and he presses his lips against your cheek.
“It's me…” He whispers, breath tickling your ear. You bite back the confusion flooding you. Is it him? He has his eyes, his face, his voice… his touch. But this Adrian is wholly separate from the one you left at the car. Either way, denying him the comfort of a kiss sits heavy in your chest.
When someone clears their throat you step back from him in surprise. His hands trail down your forearms and gently drop to his sides.
“I hate to break this moment up, but the Metas are going to be doing their rounds soon.” Judo Master says quietly from the open doorway, arms crossed. He closes the door gently, gaze lingering between the two of you.
Swiping at your tear stained face with your forearm, your eyes flick up to Adrian, who's unabashedly staring at you, chest rising and falling with steady deep breaths, raindrops clinging to his hair and glasses.
“Adrian, you're staring.” You sigh, feeling your cheeks flush.
“I can't help it.” He tries and fails to steady his voice. “For the first time in four years, I can feel my heart beating again.”
You find your hand reaching for his. Fingers laced tight, he opens the door, and you both step into headquarters.
The inside of headquarters is just as it was before you left. The same shelves and desks. Even the motivational poster Adebayo had tacked up on the wall behind the coffee bar survived the test of time and an interdimensional invasion.
Two men sit in computer chairs, backs to the door when you walk in.
“What is it now, Adrian? I thought I told you we needed more time to-”
“Economos?” You can't hide the shock from your voice.
John Economos spins in his chair, eyes widening behind his glasses. He looks the same, even though five years have passed.
“Holy shit, can I see ghosts now or are you actually here?” He stands awkwardly until you close the distance and give him a hug.
“Sorry to break it to you, but you don't have a sixth sense. I’m actually here.”
He pulls you into a bear hug, lifting you off your feet and spinning you. His eyes are sparkling and cheeks pink with mirth when he sets you down.
“Five years, three days, seventeen hours, six minutes, and twelve seconds.” Sydney Happersen mumbles, typing as he speaks. “Thats the exact linear coordinates between Sanctuary and home.”
You glance up at Economos. “He’s still alive?”
John pushes his glasses up. “I was going to kill him, but he grew on me. Like a tumor… not like something pleasant.”
“If something grows on you, it's parasitic in nature, therefore nothing that takes to growing on you would be pleasant.” Happersen says matter-of-factly.
“I could still change my mind!” John snaps, glaring over his shoulder at the chuckling Happersen.
For the first time in days, you feel like you can see a way out of this mess. Economos is alive and has Happersen, the mad scientist who built the worm hole that tore through this dimension and into countless others. Since his tech caused the rift between dimensions, he's the best chance at separating them again.
You're breathless with excitement. “Tell me everything that's happened.” You lean against Harcourt's old desk and glance at Adrian as he settles in next to you, shoulder brushing yours. “Then tell me how we fix it.”
Economos’ eyes flick between you and Adrian, then he checks his watch.
“Shouldn't we wait until everyone's here?”
Adrian's gaze roams your face when you look up at him. Without pulling his eyes from yours, he answers Economos. “She should be here any minute. You know her… never late.”
“Yeah, such a tight ass!” John's smile fades and he swallows. “Please, don’t tell her I said that. It sounds so wrong. What I meant is… she's always very punctual.”
“Who?” Your brows knit, trying to read the mind working behind those eyes. “Adrian, who's coming?” Your stomach twists when you see a shadow there.
Before you can take another breath the front door unlocks and swings open. Pulling the black hood from around her face, she stops and assesses the room.
“I thought we weren't going to tell them until tomorrow.” She's as stern as ever, but when a small smile pulls at her lips you can't help the tears that fill your eyes.
“Emilia?” You watch as she strolls into headquarters, just as she always does, like she has the biggest balls in the room.
“Don't go getting all soft on me now.” You don't miss the quiver in her voice or the electric green of her watering eyes. “We made it this far. Just a little further to go.”
When her gaze trails up to Adrian's face, there's a tenderness in her features that you've never seen before. “Let's go over the plan one more time.”
---
“Shit, dude.” Chris slides his boots across the pavement, stretching his legs out. Adrian sits next to him on the curb, hat pulled low to shade his eyes from his friends sight, paper bag rustling around the bottle clutched in his hand. Larry is on the other side of Chris, stretched out on the sidewalk with his hands pillowing his head.
Chris looks up at the night sky where the giant rift glows brighter than the moon, nearly washing the stars from view entirely.
Adrian finds it hard to believe it's the same sky he lay under weeks ago watching shooting stars with you, wishing you would give him a chance.
“How'd we ever get here?” Chris slurs.
“What do you mean? Get where?” Adrian drains his beer and sets it aside.
“Us. How did we get here?” Chris's brows knit.
“You know why.” Adrian says softly pushing a pebble across the pavement with the toe of his sneaker.
“But it wasn't just that, was it?” Chris glances over. “Doing that... killing her. It was the last straw.”
Adrian clenches his jaw. Chris looks away, sighing.
“I’ve always been a fuck up, but I never would have thought I’d do that. I know she's important to you.” Chris says softly.
“I love her.” Adrian corrects him sharply. “You realize I do have fucking feelings, right?”
“I know - ”
“I've only said otherwise because no one has ever cared. No one listens! No one has room in their busy lives for my stupid fucking feelings.”
“I'm sorry. I've always been too wrapped up in my own shit to be a better friend. I don't know why I did it. But… I'll do anything to make it right.” He belches. “Well, almost anything.”
Adrian doesn't want to know where Chris will draw the line at fixing what he's done. He wants to think the best of his friend, but doing that is why he's in this exact position.
Leaning forward, he rests his elbows on his knees and smooths his ring finger and thumb together. “I know I've never been your best friend. After Gut and then dad... I was completely alone. But you would meet up with me sometimes and we'd hang out fighting crime and destroying home appliances… ” Adrian swallows back the fact that Chris only knew him as Vigilante at that time.
“I was a jerk.” Chris murmurs, eyes cast down. Adrian breathes through the embarrassment settling in his chest.
“You're like a brother to me... the one I always wanted. I know I have a brother, but Gut hated how different I was. He wasn't a brother, or even a friend. He was just another bully.”
“Gut’s a total dick, dude. You can't help that deep down you're just a nerd.” Chris looks at him, then quickly away again, a muscle in his jaw feathering.
“You know, I… I never saw Gut the same after he gave you a bloody nose after the school talent show. Your magic tricks were actually cool as fuck. To this day, I still wonder how you made that rose float between your hands.”
Adrian nods. “Thanks.” He'd spent all summer practicing that trick alone in his room, hoping that Gut would be impressed. All that work reaped the opposite reaction.
“I'm sorry I was such a dick to you growing up.” Chris squeezes his eyes closed before he speaks next.
“I remember what it was like to be the little brother. I looked up to Keith like he hung the moon in the fucking sky.” He glances at Adrian, then back at the bottle he's twisting in his hands.
“I guess, I've always seen that piece of me in you. How you followed Gut around everywhere like he was some kind of hero. Fuck... it hurt so bad to be reminded of having an older brother. And once I found myself in the position of being even a little bit like one?” He shakes his head and tosses his beer bottle, it shatters against a nearby dumpster.
“I'm a fuck up. And I'm sure as hell not qualified to be looked at as having all the answers. When I found Keith on Earth X, for one sweet moment, I thought I had my brother back. It was always just him and me against the world, and our world was the one my fucked up Nazi scumbag of a father built around us. It was hell.” He wets his lips and looks out into the distance.
“We could have run. If we were a little older, I know we would have. But, that’s my fault too. I had to move on without him.” His voice shakes around the words.
“Well, I tried, but I didn't make it too far.” He pops the cap off of another beer.
Larry chortles, the noise low and craggy coming deep from his chest.
“Yeah dude. I'm totally wasted right now.” Chris shakes his head and sets the bottle down. “Guess no matter what fucking dimension I'm in, I deal with my bullshit the same as always.”
Adrian stares at his shoes for a long moment, head spinning, breath hot in his chest, before Chris bumps his shoulder.
“Let's go get some sleep.” He hiccups. “Important mission tomorrow, remember?”
---
There's an actual bed in Economo's old office and you could cry tears of joy when he offers it to you.
“I have a ton of numbers to run before I can even think about turning in for the night.” He glances at Adrian and Harcourt who are having a heated discussion in the hall.
“Are you sure?” You press your lips together against the instinct to tell him just how much you've missed him over the last few days when you thought he was gone.
He offers a soft grin. “I usually pass out at my desk lately anyways. Now that the plan is in motion, I can barely tear myself away from the keyboard.”
You sit back on the bed. “It's big enough for four, we could all squish in.” You laugh.
He shakes his head, chuckling. “Like a pile of puppies? I don't think Harcourt would go for that.” He pauses before turning towards the door.
“I missed you. When I heard about Peacemaker and what he did, I couldn't believe it.” A pink flush creeps in around his eyes. “Glad you're back.”
“I missed you, too.” You nod. When he slips out, his words linger.
What Peacemaker did.
Harcourt steps in the doorway, behind her a dark shadow with a familiar silhouette lingers in the hall.
“The clothes fit?”
“Yeah, thanks.” You almost feel like a brand new person after changing into clean clothes, brushing your teeth, and scrubbing the grime off of your face.
“Sorry we couldn't get you a proper shower.”
“It's okay.” You pause and study her face. It's changed in the last five years, her features have softened but her gaze is as sharper as ever. “Honestly, Emilia? What I'd really like are some answers about what happened to me four years ago.”
She stiffens at this and tilts her head towards the open doorway behind her. When she turns back to face you she studies you with narrowed eyes. “You'll get them from the only person who was actually there.”
Your heart sinks. You don't want to drag the truth out of Adrian. You don't think you'll be able to keep a clear head hearing what happened if it's coming from him. But maybe you owe him that much. You incline your head. “Fine.”
“Be ready in the morning or I'll be dragging your ass out of bed,” she says tersely before spinning on her heel and shouldering past Adrian. He doesn't turn to watch her leave, instead, his sad green eyes just drink you in until long after her footsteps have receded.
“She seems upset.” You say softly.
Sighing he steps closer. “She'll be fine.”
Then he gestures to the bed, a silent question.
You feel as if the breath has been pulled from you and only manage a nod. The tension melts from your shoulders when he sits beside you.
“Do you really have to know? Because, if you do, I can tell you. I can go over every detail, every moment.” He swallows hard. “I re-live it every day.” He adds softly before shuttering his eyes.
You study his profile as he looks down at his hands clenched in his lap. Your palm smooths over his jeans, then rests on top of his hands. He glances up at you, his chin dimpling slightly. “I'm sorry.”
“It's okay.” You whisper. When he pulls you into a hug, and buries his face in your neck you hold him closer. When you feel hot tears begin to dampen your shoulder, your hand drifts up his back and into his hair. As much as you want to know what happened, if tonight is one of the last nights here with him, why make him re-live it again right now, when your both feeling so broken?
When you go back... all of this has the potential to change. This moment won't exist. You don't want to waste it.
“Will you stay with me tonight?” You whisper against his temple, following the ache in your heart.
The bed really isn't big enough for four people. Just two.
You and Adrian study one another in the dim light. His fingers trace your lips, and yours linger on the scar running down his brow to the corner of his mouth.
“How'd you get this one?” your voice is barely a whisper.
“My red visor shattered. The night you…”
“Shhh.” You press your finger against his lips and he kisses it softly. “Tomorrow, he'll want to know. Tonight is ours.”
You trail your fingertips down his neck, across the scar encircling it. Snatches of that night flash across your mind's eye. That was one of the times you truly thought you were going to lose him and it nearly destroyed you. How much pain has he been carrying since your doppleganger died?
His lips part when your gaze flicks back to his eyes. You trail your nails softly down his chest stopping to rest your palm on a ragged scar directly over his heart. Biting back tears you press your lips to it, then rest your cheek on his chest to listen to the steady thumping of his heartbeat.
His arms pull you tightly against him and you melt into his embrace, knowing that tomorrow, the full truth of his suffering will be unveiled. When you finally let the tears fall, they slip down your cheeks and onto his chest. You fall asleep hoping that there really is a way to erase the scars from his heart.
… to be continued …
I've always felt Adrian's canon character has so many gaps and inconsistencies, leaving so much left to explore. In this chapter I wanted to dive into my thoughts on some of those unanswed questions we all have. I'm a true believer that Adrian's character deserves his own complex story, so I hope you enjoyed this chapter 💖 Don't hesitate to shoot me dm or ask if you wanna chat (just be kind) !
There was a crash in the living room, followed by a meow and shushing from your boyfriend Adrian. She stepped out of the bedroom making her way towards the living room. “Adrian?” she calls out as she moves to his bent over frame.
“Hey pretty!” He stands up abruptly and scoots around like he’s trying to cover something. “What are you doing?” her head moves trying to look behind his legs. She pauses for a moment before moving closer, eyebrows furrowed as she looks down at her cat…in a shirt similar to Adrian's vigilante suit. “Why is my cat wearing a shirt?”
“I need a sidekick duh!” he states like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “Okay, but why can’t an actual human be your sidekick?”
He scoffs at her question “Because it risks somebody knowing my secret identity, plus cats have 32 muscles in each ear, allowing them to swivel 180 degrees independently and hear frequencies up to 100,000 Hz, so he can listen for bad guys behind me!”
She nods, processing his words “So instead of getting someone like Kite-Man to help fight alongside you, you choose my cat.”
An offended scoff leaves his lips “First of all I would NEVER have ‘Kite-Man’ be my sidekick and secondly he’s our cat.”
“Right sorry our cat”
.
.
A couple hours later Adrian came through the window with the cat strapped to his chest in a…baby carrier?
She looks up from the screen of her computer taking in the sight of her boyfriend with small scratches on the sides of his mask and on the hard plates of his suit. “I take it that it didn’t do well?”
He closes the window undoing the carrier on his chest, removing his mask “No it didn’t” he pointed to the animal that was now occupying her lap. “He took off on me five times!”
“Is that why he was in a baby carrier?”
“No! He was in there because he kept trying to eat the rats!”
She stopped scratching the cat's head. “What rats?”
“The ones at the pet store!”
“Why were you at the pet store this late, and where did you even find a baby carrier?”
“Oh I found it on some balcony, I can’t believe people let things dry outside at night! I mean what if it had gotten stolen, good thing I found it and used it to keep this little guy safe!”
She took a deep breath. “That still doesn't explain why you were at the pet store.”
“Oh yeah I was looking to see if there were any ferrets there so we can buy one! I need a different sidekick.”
An Adrian Chase X Fem! Reader X Alternate Fem! Reader Drabble
I haven't wrote anything in a million years but I had one too many glasses of wine and can't stop thinking about Adrian Chase so here's this.
Synopsis: Adrian has traveled to the alternate universe to find Peacemaker, straying from the mission because he'd rather find himself first. While heading to his home to find himself he's met with the alternate version of you, his girlfriend, waiting for him to come home.
Warnings: Nothing crazy just making out and absolute embarrassment when he gets caught indulging in a woman who isn't his.
Adrian and Y/n’s relationship in his universe was simple. They worked together in A.R.G.U.S, Y/n having been someone who worked on Project Starfish with the rest of the group, and was thrown headfirst into Project Butterfly. Adrian considered her his number 4 best friend, behind Chris, Eagly, and Ads. She didn’t care for the BFF label, and he knew it. However, what he’d never admit was the reason she was so low behind everyone else was because his ‘emotional constipation’ kept him from accepting the fact he didn’t want her on his best friend list at all. He wanted Y/n in a category of her own.
In the approximate two months that they’ve worked together, Adrian was smitten. Following her around HQ when he had nothing to prep for (which he rarely needed to prep for anything, since he showed up everyday fully geared up for whatever may hit him), making sure her mug of coffee was never empty at her desk, calling her with ‘facts’ about whatever animal had stolen his fascination that week. Normal Adrian stuff she assumed. He even tried to bring his fascination for her up to his BFF Chris once or twice, just to immediately be shot down with “In your dreams, you lunatic.” Nonetheless, Adrian was happy with the time he did get to spend with her. It was enough for him just to see her every day. Or at least that’s what he thought.
That was until they had gone through the portal to their alternate Earth, to try and save Chris. Against the 11th Street Kid’s protests, he slipped away to hunt down the alternate version of himself. Giggling at all the strange indiscrepancies this Earth had from his own and making his way down to his alternate ‘super secret room’, he expected to be met with himself. But that wasn’t the case because curled up in his desk chair, scrolling away mindlesses through something on his computer was Y/n. Not his Y/n, but this universes.
Her head immediately turned up to face him. Her grin was sickeningly sweet. “Back sooner than I thought you’d be.” she beamed up to him sweetly, making her way over to him. “Oh, hey Y/n! Actually crazy story-” but before he could tell her that he wasn’t actually her Adrian, and how cool it was that he was from another universe, her hand pressed flat against his chest snaking up around the back of his neck. The gaze in her eyes was almost hypnotizing, like they were reading past him straight through to his soul, and he really didn’t mind it.
“Did something go wrong?” she asked, concern lacing her tone. Adrian had to pause and buffer for a moment. Y/n was never one to be physical with him. Never one to go into his home for that matter. He was a little confused, but not frightened by the contact. Not at all. “Oh, no it was super sick, uh… getting all those bad guys.” he stuttered out, trying to not give himself up and scare her off. “You uh… you were waiting for me?” he asked curiously. His hand was hovering over the small of her back, daring to touch but too nervous to actually make a move.
“Well I was here when you left, wasn't I?” she teased lightly. He almost swooned over at just the sound of her laugh and soft grin up to him. “Right of course you were, it’d be silly if you had just left when I was gonna come back to you… right?” his voice crept higher at the end when he asked, almost searching for confirmation. The hand that rested on the back of his neck snapped his mask off, gently tugging it off his head as Y/n held it in one hand, and pulled him closer with the other. “I’m just glad you’re okay, baby.” She hummed softly.
Adrian's cheeks instantly grew a deep red as the pet name rang through his ears. His mind was spinning with all the possibilities this world could have for him. Peacemaker was right, this was the best dimension ever. “Oh yeah, I cut it really close y’know. Super dangerous, but when have I ever feared danger?” He rambled nervously. And she just laughed. Not at him, it wasn’t targeted at all. The kind of laugh you give out of appreciation and care for someone.
“As far as I can recall, never.” she said sweetly before closing the space between them and kissing him. Adrian stiffened at the contact, in more ways than one. But quickly leaned into it, wanting to savor as much of her as he could before the real him came busting though the door. The excitement of meeting his alternate self quickly washed away when he was met with the possibility of having Y/n exactly how he wanted too.
His hands hurriedly came up to her back, tracing up and down its surface while he kissed her with a hunger she wasn’t used to on a normal day like this. He could feel her grin into the kiss, almost basking in it. And suddenly his quiet need for his world's Y/n was facing him ten fold. He let out a soft whine as she pulled away from the kiss, causing her to softly smirk up to him. “Really cut it close today, huh?” she teased him lightly. Her free hand came up to brush his hair out of his face.
“Just reminding myself how much I wanna be with you.” he said, weak for her. And for the first time since he broke into this alternate Adrian’s basement, he was being honest. “God you’re just so beautiful.” He continued feverishly. “And you’re mine? I mean wow, I’m just the luckiest guy on the planet.” And another soft giggle and gentle smile came from Y/n, something he didn’t know he craved so much. Adrian was unsure if he’d be able to live without it after this. Before Y/n could even try to respond, his lips crashed back into hers. The kiss was desperate, like a starving man who’s been fed for the first time in days. Except for Adrian, he was starved of Y/n’s affection, and was being fed for the first time in his life.
Adrian slowly walked her back until her back was pressed flat against an empty wall in the basement. He didn’t even need to look to see where he was going, the layout was exactly the same. As soon as her back was pressed up flat to the wall, his lips began to explore, starting at the corner of her lips and hurriedly making their way down her neck. “Fuck, Adrian. What’s gotten into you?” Y/n asked breathlessly, dropping his mask to the ground with a dull thud before her hands came up to the back of his neck, fingers lacing through his curls with a soft tug. As soon as her breathy words hit his ears he was done for. His gloved hands roaming around her sides fiercely, grabbing at any skin he could.
He didn’t answer her question, just continued to nip and suck at any skin she left available to him. His hands fiddling behind her to pull his gloves off before making their way up her shirt to feel her for real. The way her soft hums and groans filled the room at his kisses was intoxicating. “Fuck, you’re perfect..” he sighed against her neck, working his way back up to her lips.
“I mean really perfect.” he groaned. He pulled his lips away to face her fully, looking down at her with nothing but adoration in his eyes. “Do I tell you that enough? That you’re the most perfect woman I’ve ever seen in my life? Because it’s the truth. Not just because I’m seeing you like this, although that's definitely an added bonus, you’re also the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Besides the point, god you’re just- wow Y/n, like really blessing me in every form of the word.” He rambled breathlessly. Y/n’s hands stayed put around the back of his neck, running through his hair sweetly as she couldn’t fight a smile from his words. “I know baby, you remind me fairly often.” She said with a soft giggle.
“Good, because I can’t stress enough how badly I need you.” His words came out with a soft whine, unable to hide how eager he was to get Y/n like this. Full of his soft words and needy grabs, Y/n dove in to kiss him again. Her hands left their spot on the back of his neck to trail down his armored chest. “I’m glad you came around,” she said softly, muffled between kisses. “Came around?” he asked, lifting his head up from the kiss to look up to her. Y/n then grew a little tense from bringing it up. “I mean, you’ve been so work oriented lately, I haven’t got you like this for days.” she admitted a little sheepishly. Days? Sure not weeks, or the months he’s been waiting to get his Y/n like this, but if he truly had her and she needed him, Adrian would never leave her to herself for days. He believed she deserved to be treated like a goddess, as a woman as beautiful and gracious as she was, was one.
He then spoke up sharply, “Don’t listen to a word I say. You deserve my undivided attention.” Which he truly meant as if it were law, before he pulled her back in to kiss her again. Y/n let out a soft moan into the kiss, riled up by his fervor. One hand of hers stayed on his chest while the other snaked back up into his hair. As she lightly tugged on it he let out a moan of his own into the kiss. He was starving, and needed as much of her as she was willing to give him.
Too riled up by the newfound intimacy, he neglected to pay attention to the footsteps approaching from outside the basement door. As the doorknob twisted, this universe’s Adrian began to speak up gleefully. “Babe, you will not believe who I found on my way home, it’s you!” He began cheerfully before facing his girlfriend with… himself?
This universe's Y/n pulled back at the sound of his voice, jolted as her gaze landed on her boyfriend? But she was kissing her boyfriend, right? She instantly pushed Adrian off of her, face painted in confusion. “What the fuck?” she yelped as she jumped back. Adrian stood still, realizing that her real boyfriend had come home. And worse, he’d come home with his universe’s Y/n. Both alternate Adrian and the real Y/n stood still in the doorway, perplexed by what they had walked into.
“Shit- oh uhm, hey! Look, it's me! Or I’m you? Or uh- Woah, what’s that guy doing here, he looks like me!” Through a rollercoaster of guises, Adrian tried to play dumb when confronted by this dimension’s version of himself. His universes Y/n facepalmed with a huff. “Adrian, I know it’s you.” she sighed not wanting to get into whatever the fuck it was that she had just walked into. Adrian X, however, was fuming. “Why the fuck were you kissing my girlfriend?” he huffed angrily as he shoved Adrian back. Y/n X, pressed firmly against the wall trying to wrap her head around what she was seeing.
“Dude, I’m sorry!” Adrian’s voice rang out in a high pitched squeal as he tried to run from Adrian X. As they continued to chase one another around the basement Y/n came face to face with her alternate self. “Uh… Hi, are you okay?” she asked softly. “I don’t know what the fuck I’m feeling right now.” Y/n X let out weakly as she watched the Adrian’s fight one another. Y/n then spoke up delicately. “Yeah, that makes sense…” she said, turning her shoulder to watch them tussling across the room.
Y/n then scrambled over, getting between both Adrian’s. “Okay, cut it out, we’re here for a reason.” she huffed. What she walked in on can be discussed later. She then turned to Adrian, “Ads is in trouble, we need to go.” She said sharply. Adrian’s head cocked to the side in confusion. “Trouble? What do you mean trouble?”
And then the whole nazi spiel was told, and the group set aside their differences to be discussed later as Y/n, Adrian, and Adrian X prepared to go rescue her. Adrian X giving Y/n X a soft kiss on the cheek with a soft muttered, “we’re discussing this later, love ya babe.” before they all dipped out of the room, leaving Y/n X to sit on the couch, dazed and confused.
The walk back over to Chris’ house was tense and silent. That was until Y/n spoke up to Adrian, while Adrian X stayed ahead leading the way. “What the fuck were you doing in there?” She asked. If it wasn’t for his red visor, Y/n would’ve been able to see how red his cheeks got at the question. “I dunno, she came onto me?” It was a weak defense. While Y/n X did kiss him first, he was rather adamant to keep it going. “So you neglected to mention you are from another universe?” She asked sharply. Y/n couldn’t place her rage. Was it jealousy? Seeing a version of herself all wound up by the same guy who always filled her cup, always lingered around her desk after a mission.
“What, I’m a guy! I got excited.” Adrian said weakly, holding his hands up in surrender. “A guy who was rather keen on making out with me!” Ash finally let out with a huff. As soon as she did she bit her tongue, looking away from him. Maybe she was jealous? Sure, he’s made his interest clear by the way he stares at her from across the room, but it’s not like he ever made a move. Adrian had no words for the first time since Y/n had known him. As soon as Y/n was about to push, they arrived at Chris’.
The steps to save him were a whirlwind. What was supposed to be a quick in and out the dimensional door became an all out brawl between the 11th street kids and the cops. The thought of Adrian making out with the alternate Y/n subdued through the fight, then right before she brought it up they were met with A.R.G.U.S as soon as they got back to their world. In the crazy stir of events with Chris being arrested, and the rest of them frozen and unable to fight back as they watched him get dragged away in a cop car, the thought of what she saw subdued, but didn’t disappear.
“You uh… you need a ride home?” Adrian spoke up amidst all the chaos. She was shocked by the request, not expecting him to want to be confined to the ‘vigilante-mobile’ when he knew a conversation needed to be had. Y/n begrudgingly accepted, and got into his passenger seat in an awkward silence.
“So… alternate me..” she said softly, causing Adrian to grow stiff as he pulled out of his driveway. “Fuck, Y/n I’m sorry.” he let out weakly, his eyes trained onto the road ahead of them. “I know it was wrong, but it was you! Except not you, but then she kissed me, and all I wanted to do was kiss her back. And her version of me clearly had not been treating her how she deserved to be treated which killed me inside, and I-” before he could continue to ramble, Y/n voice cut him off. “Pull over.” she said plainly. Adrian’s eyes landed on her for just a moment. “What? Why-” “Pull over.” She said again firmer, so he did. “Look if you wanna walk home I get it, but I don’t think you-” and Y/n cut him off again. “Did you kiss her back because she needed it, or did you kiss her back because you wanted to?” she asked plainly. Her expression was unreadable, and it caused Adrian to get all flustered again. “Well it’s not like I-” and she cut him off once more. “Just answer the question, Adrian.” she huffed sharply.
“I wanted to! Okay? I got excited because there was a version of you out there who wanted me as badly as I want you, and I couldn’t help myself when she was just there waiting for me.” And suddenly Y/n stilled. With the realization of what he had just admitted, Adrian froze too. “Then why’d you never do anything about it?” Y/n asked. It shocked Adrian to his core. She wasn’t mad at him, she was jealous. So he turned to face her fully, putting the car in park. “What, because you’d want me too? C’mon Y/n I was grasping at what could’ve been while I had it, and now it’s over so just stop reminding me.” He said through a soft sigh. His eyes trailed over her, unable to shake the way the alternate her kissed him back so fiercely, how her hands handled him so gently when he was used to her brute force on missions or her unassuming gaze at the office.
“I never said I didn’t.” She said bluntly as she gazed over to him. That caused Adrian to freeze where he sat, hands clutching the wheel for some kind of stability. “What?” Was all he was able to muster in this moment. “Did you kiss her because it was her, or did you kiss her because it was me?” She asked bluntly once more. The tension was thick as Y/n leaned in closer as he asked the question.
“I kissed her because she was you.” He finally admitted weakly, unable to look at Y/n.
Summary: It’s your anniversary and Adrian is nowhere to be found…
[My Writing Masterlist]
WC: 1.6k
TW/CW: Injury (not described in detail), blood mention.
A/N: …so I’m back… sorry for the hiatus, a lot happened. But i am back! So send in requests, bc i have literally no ideas… this one has been in my drafts for 8 months and tbh not proud of it but hey better to get it out there! (is anyone even still here…?)
You let out a long drawn out sigh as you kicked off your shoes as soon as you got into the door. You nudged the door closed with your hip, locking it as soon as your shoes were off. You placed your purse on the kitchen counter as you passed it and made your way to the only bedroom in your apartment.
Once inside, you shimmied out of your fancy dress, letting it pool around your feet. Out of the stifling garment, you allowed yourself to breathe.
You stepped over the dress and over to your dresser. You pulled out one of your boyfriend’s old tee shirts and tugged it on. Usually, you would wear pajama pants due to the cold nights. Your apartment’s heater was on the fritz and it got extremely cold at night.
However, you knew Adrian was going to be very upset tonight. You figured forgoing pants would make him feel better, even if marginally.
The two of you were supposed to meet at a very fancy restaurant tonight to celebrate your two year anniversary. Adrian had made the reservations months ago. The two of you had been talking about what you would eat there for longer. It was the fanciest you could get in Evergreen. With Adrian’s new job paying him more than he got at Fennel Fields, the two of you could finally afford the luxury.
But he hadn’t shown up.
You made your way to the bathroom to start taking off your makeup. You cleaned your face and began your nighttime routine, despite not having eaten dinner. If Adrian hadn’t showed, then you were sure that he also hadn’t eaten. You didn't feel right eating when he hadn’t, even if he did leave you to stand outside your apartment for the past hour. Waiting on him.
You sighed. You knew his unique occupation came with challenges. You had known that going in that he would have to put his job before you sometimes.
That knowledge didn’t ease the hurt, though.
It was lonely when he left for another mission. He insisted that you never come or get involved with his job, but sometimes you wished he would let you in on that part of his life. You knew he killed people, and that he was currently on a very dangerous mission, but other than that you didn’t know much.
When he came to you with his pinky toe almost severed last year, you didn’t ask questions. You just treated his wound and moved on.
You finished cleaning yourself up and walked to the living room. You settled onto the couch and turned on the tv, letting it play as you reclined.
You were on the verge of sleep when your phone began ringing. You opened your eyes and saw the personalized name you had for Adrian. A smile worked its way onto your face, happy he was calling. You answered quickly and placed the phone to your ear.
“Baby, are you okay?”
The other end of the line was silent for a moment, before a woman’s voice came through. “Wow,” she scoffed.
You heard someone on the other end yell, muted because they weren’t next to the phone. “Is she real?”
“Yeah,” the woman on the other end of the phone answered. “You owe me 50.”
The other voice cursed and there was some shuffling.
“Um, why do you have Adrian’s phone? Is he okay?” You had no idea what was going on, but you did know it was very weird for a woman to be calling you on Adrian’s phone.
“I’m going to be honest with you,” the woman began. “No, he isn’t. He’s the worst I have ever seen him.”
“Oh my god,” you gasped and stumbled to your feet. “Where is he?”
“We are treating him at our headquarters-”
“Where?” You demanded.
“Calm down,” she huffed. “One of ours is on her way to pick you up at your apartment.”
“Is he…” Your voice cut off, thinking the worst.
“No,” she sighed. “He’ll be alright. But he keeps fighting treatment, insisting to see you. Something about a date? Either way he’s being annoying so hopefully you can calm him down.”
“I’ll be waiting outside.” You rushed to your bedroom and searched for pants. All you could find was a pair of Adrian’s discarded jeans, belt still looped through. You hopped and pulled them on, tightening the belt around your waist.
All the while the woman described the woman who was going to pick you up - Adebayo - and her car.
“Okay, thank you,” you said, out of breath from running around the apartment. You toed on your shoes and locked the apartment door behind you.
“No, thank you. He’s being so difficult.”
The statement sent a flash of annoyance through you. Difficult? He was injured.
“Tell him I’ll be there soon.” You took the steps from your apartment as fast as you could without tripping and dying.
“Right, see you soon.” The woman ended the call after that and you pocketed your phone. As soon as you left the building, you saw the car the woman described. You ran over and slid into the passenger seat.
She shot you a curious look. “You okay?”
“Well, seeing as I just got a call saying my boyfriend is half dead, no not really.”
“Oh,” Adebayo winced. “Sorry about that.”
“Not your fault,” you mumbled, staring out the window. It was dark, and late, so there were only a few other cars on the road.
As if sensing your unease, Adebayo accelerated the car.
“Don’t worry, Adrian is tough. He’ll be fine.”
You hummed a yes, but you didn’t believe it. You knew deep down, back at the restaurant, that something was very, very wrong. Adrian would never stand you up like that, not without saying anything. You knew something was wrong but you still went home like everything was okay.
You were kicking yourself when the car pulled to a stop in front of a run down building. You shot a look at Adebayo. She was already unbuckling, so you did the same and got out of the car. You rushed inside after she unlocked the door.
“He’s upstairs, in the back room,” Adebayo managed to get out before you rushed past the desks to get to the stairs. You took them as quickly as you could. As you climbed them, you could hear Adrian’s cries of pain.
You stopped in the doorway of the back room. It reeked of blood, the metallic stench hanging thick in the air. Adrian was laying on an old couch, a man leaning over his bare chest, doing something you couldn’t see.
Adrian’s head lolled to the side and your eyes met. Then the spell was broken.
You rushed to the couch and slid onto it, pulling Adrian’s head onto your lap.
“Hey baby,” you smiled and brushed his hair back from his head. His forehead was sweaty and hot, and it broke your heart.
“Babe!” He croaked and lifted a bloodsoaked hand to your cheek. He only seemed to notice then that his hand was covered in blood and tried pulling it away. You quickly placed a hand over his to hold it to your cheek.
Adrian frowned. “Stop, Imma get blood on you…”
“I don’t care,” you shook your head. You glanced up at his chest, which was a mess of gashes that this guy was working to close. Your face went pale at how much blood was leaking out of your boyfriend.
“Hey,” Adrian mumbled and tilted your head down to meet his eyes. “I’ll be fine, lovely girl.”
“I-” Your voice cracked and you felt tears well in your eyes.
“Damn, Chase, this your girl?” A new man strolled into the room without a care, like your boyfriend hadn’t lost what must be a ton of blood.
“Shut up, Chris, don’t look at her,” Adrian pouted and tried to glare at the new guy.
You looked up and recognized the guy immediately. He was wearing this ridiculous suit and metal helmet, but you recognized him from your childhood in Evergreen.
“Hey, you’re Chris, right?” You asked him, even though you knew who he was.
“Sure thing, sweetcheeks,” Chris flashed you a grin.
You glared at him and lifted one hand from Adrian’s head to flip him off.
“Hey, fuck you too!” He retorted quickly.
“Aw, my two favorite people getting along,” Adrian said. You looked down to see him smiling dreamily. His eyes started fluttering, as if he were falling asleep.
“Hey, Adrian, baby, don’t fall asleep on me,” you pleaded with him, shaking him slightly. You looked up at the man stitching Adrian up. “Can’t we take him to the hospital?”
“He’s been through worse,” he grunted. “Mostly surface shit anyways. He just needs to rest it off.”
You frowned. It certainly didn’t look good at all. Then again, you didn’t know much about these things. “Then why did you call me?”
“He was fighting treatment until we said we would call you. Annoying shit,” he said as he pulled another stitch closed.
“Oh, I'm sorry Adrian is such an inconvenience for you.” You glared at the scruffy man until he acquiesced and mumbled an apology.
“Isn't she so sexy when she's mad?” Adrian murmured. He moved his thumb so it could brush over your lips.
You couldn’t help the heat that rose to your face. It still affected you, Adrian’s brazen compliments.
“He will be fine,” the man tending to Adrian’s wounds huffed.
And Adrian was fine, because you stayed next to him the entire night. And now they you had met the 11th street kids, this was just the beginning…
adriaann chase tilting his head back while laughing. eyes squinting behind his aviators. breath wheezing and manic as ever over something that excites him and only him uncaring to the stares and eye rolls sent his way from the rest of the 11th street kids.
"i'm telling you ! it was just suuper funny how-"
god he's just going on and on. you're trying to listen, really. it's late and everyones tired from the mission but vigilante the adrenaline junkie fuck that he is got his fix from a job well done.
you're no better. you’re just as buzzed and awake as he is.
both of you moving about like predators after a fresh kill, basking in the gratisfaction of a broken internal rewards system. standing beside one another at checkmate while everyone else is filing out. calling out their goodnights as they exit accompanied by the sound of the door slamming after.
you however, stay put right there with the other psycho freak on the team not letting the night end just yet. letting the chemicals in your brains fizzle out in the post hunt calm but the high remains.
adrian’s still rambling. from where you're standing you get a pretty good view of the roof of his mouth. jaw hinging and unhinging. flushed cheeks upturned. eyes wide as his gloved hands that are always gesturing wildly now settle on his diaphragm. laughing and laughing with his canines glimmering and catching the light.
no one else is around to see how you’re looking like a total maniac peering up at him. observing how his cuspids protrude from the rest of his teeth when he inclines his head backwards. gazing like the roof of his mouth is the night sky and his fangs are the brightest stars burning for you tonight. you’re completely unsubtle in the way you go about it but you’ve given up being normal a long time ago. not like there's anyone to call you out on what you’re doing-
“heeyyyyy ! are you even-”
listening. yeah listening. his voice bouncing in octave but you’re not giving a word he says another thought.
you’re definitely not ogling at wanted murderer vigilante’s pretty canines. not thinking about how they would feel grazing your lower lip while kissing senselessly. pyring for more and sinking them into the side of your neck. or the other side of your neck and biting harder to break the skin, drawing blood to the surface on top of the spray of someone else's gore across both if your suits. if he's a good boy then maybeee he can leave a bite on the inside your thigh. he'd be sooo gooood once your hands are in his curls, silver wire glasses crooked and relentless mouth put to good use. that would definitely shut him up.
You had a big surprise for Adrian coming up and couldn't wait to tell him about it. Your Paws a Moment work trip was to the Evergreen zoo and aquarium for an exclusive tour and you were allowed to invite partners along. There was all kinds of cool activities and you'd even booked for Adrian to get to feed the manta rays.
Your colleagues were awesome and you'd made a lot of friends including a new starter Garth Curry who was the same age as you and Adrian. He was into D&D and a lot of the same hobbies as Adrian was so you couldn't wait for them to meet and hopefully become fast friends too.
Garth was roughly around Adrian's height with pitch black hair that was usually towel dry wet from a swim and rested shoulder length. His eyes were an almost hypnotising lavender and he had an easy smile. He also certainly kept himself in great shape with a broad muscular frame that showed through his work scrubs.
So it wasn't really surprising that many of your coworkers were interested in him but apparently Garth spurned all of their advances and said he was interested in someone else but wouldn't say who that somebody was.
"So I'll get to meet that infamous boyfriend of yours Adrian huh?" Garth said with a lopsided grin, handing you a feed bag for the rabbits.
"Yep that's right! He's going to be so excited to see the manta rays I can't wait." You beamed back.
"Your boyfriend doesn't really come around here much does he?" Garth said a little pointedly.
"Oh well no he doesn't but Adrian works late nights at that restaurant Fennel Fields as a bus boy so he's usually sleeping during the day." You explained, tossing some feed out for the bunnies.
"We catch up when I go to his place or he goes to mine though!"
"You guys still don't live together?" Garth asked looking shocked.
"Not yet no. I'm still at the Overton Loft Suites with my roommate Ads." You replied cheerfully.
"Doesn't seem like that serious of a relationship then." Garth suddenly said and that made you stop in your tracks.
"Uh what?" You felt dumbfounded by that statement.
"I mean if I was seeing anyone for as long as you've been going out I'd have moved in with them already is all." Garth responded with a playful shrug.
"Adrian hasn't lived on his out of home before, he's with his mom and I don't want to push him. We'll be ready when we're ready." You replied firmly to get him to drop the subject.
"Wait wait...he still lives with his mother? Yikes red flag much?" Garth laughed and then stopped when he saw you frown.
"Sorry I'm only messing around don't get mad." He said quickly looking anxious.
"That's all right, sorry I'm a bit touchy it's just been a rough time at the moment." You admitted, rubbing the back of your neck.
"Damn anything I can do to help?" Garth asked. "Maybe I could give you a neck and shoulder massage to help ease some tension?" He offered.
"Oh, that's very kind of you but that's not necessary." You replied, going back to checking on the other cages for animals staying the night.
"Are you sure? I'm great with my hands, I've been told I've got the magic touch..." Garth tried again, putting on his best princely smoulder for you.
"No thanks I'm okay." You said, continuing to put sheets up over the cages.
Garth pouted at that but got back to work helping close up.
One of your biggest flaws was noticing when someone was actively flirting with you or trying to hint that they were interested in that way. You had after all somehow missed or actively hid away from the obvious neon sign flashing in your face everyday for years that Adrian was in love with you.
And at the moment that particular personality trait of yours was driving Garth Curry, or the Tempest wild. Usually the Atlantean heartthrob had women and men falling to his feet madly in love from the first sentence out of his mouth but you were different.
"How's your marine biology thesis going by the way?" You asked him with that adorable smile.
You actually cared about the words uttered from his devastatingly handsome lips. You listened.
"It's going well thanks! I've been looking into deep sea sharks and porcelain crabs as my next research topic so I might have to go to Western Australia pretty soon..." Garth said with a sigh.
"Wow that sounds amazing! Why do you seem a little bummed out?" You asked.
"Well it means that I'll have to leave here and won't get to see you anymore." Garth explained with a longing look but to you it just seemed like awkwardly intense eye contact.
Something you were completely immune to feeling the effects of knowing the true world staring champion your boyfriend Adrian.
"That'll be a shame I enjoy working with you too but what a cool opportunity!" You replied with a sweet grin.
"Yeah, you're right I guess." Garth said with a slight frown as you finished up the night shift.
"It would be way more of a fun adventure with someone by my side though." He suggested suavely leaning up against the lockers as you got your bag.
"Yeah having a partner is nice." You nodded cheerfully slinging your satchel on your back. "Do you have anyone you're interested in?" You asked.
"Well there is this someone I know who is really smart and knowledgeable about animals and marine life but that's also funny, cheerful, brightens up every room..." Garth waited for the gears to turn in your mind. But you didn't get that he was describing you.
"Did you want me to set you up with someone? I know a lot of the nurses would love to go on a date with you. Marco is really sweet I think you'd hit it off!" You offered excited to play matchmaker.
"No thanks..." Garth said sounding disappointed.
"Do you not want to date a coworker? I get that it doesn't always work out well. But there's some great people at Adrian's and my old work I could ask! Taylor or Taylor's cousin Maria are both single and really hot!" You tried again.
"No I don't mind dating a coworker! It just has to be the right one..." Garth qualified it desperately hoping you'd get what he meant but instead you gave a shrug and swung your locker closed.
"Fair enough." You said cheerfully swinging your car keys around. Garth walked you to your car which was very kind of him.
"Goodnight Garth!" You waved him goodbye.
"Goodnight. See you at the field trip tomorrow." Garth waved back.
"Yes, I can't wait for you to meet Adrian!" You said brightly getting into your car.
"Yeah...I can't wait either." Garth replied under his breath with a scowl.
He knew that Adrian was Vigilante, most of the Paws a Moment crew did because he once took some of the staff hostage but no one said anything to you about that because it was awkward.
You had no problem being with a superhero, not that Garth considered Vigilante to be a hero or super of any kind from what he had learned through observing him he was more of a masked lunatic...still the lifestyle was similar and you weren't phased.
Garth could keep being the Tempest and you could be his Ariel. He was sure that his adoptive father Arthur Curry, Aquaman would leap at the chance to agree for you to become his bride back in Atlantis.
"I'll make you see your true potential my precious pearl and then we can return to Atlantis to be properly joined." Garth promised watching your car leave.
With a sigh, he was determined to prove his worth to you getting onto his motorcycle. Garth would show you how much better suited he was for you than your pathetic boyfriend Adrian Allen Chase by comparison tomorrow.
Parking his lame motorcycle, Garth took off his stupid non combat helmet that didn't even have a sick prescription visor off and sighed.
"Man I really wish I could steal Vigilante's smoking hot babe of a girlfriend. But I'm too much of a snivelling pussy to even try and make an actual move..." Garth lamented when he got home to his apartment a couple blocks away.
"Guess I'll have to jack off to weird octopus hentai again..." He sighed pathetically.
Getting out his house keys, Garth was about to insert them into the lock but a well-sharpened honshu blade shone right at neck height stopped him in his tracks.
"So you like flirting with death's lady in the pale moonlight?" Vigilante asked him. Crimson beads of blood dripped onto the blade and ran down its length to patter on the concrete.
"Hey! You can't do this, I'm Tempura or Tempest or whatever the fuck and I'm the rightful heir to the Atlantic Ocean or was it Atlanta? Anyway! Just wait until my fishfucker daddy Aquaman finds out and he'll-" Garth began and Vigilante pressed the blade wringing some more blood from him.
"Oh please Vigilante don't kill me! I'll never go near your sexy as fuck girlfriend again! Just let me live please!" Garth begged for his life on his knees like a little sad loser. He also pissed his pants and it was super gross and hilarious.
"I'll give you whatever you want! You want underwater riches? Pirate treasure? I'll give you anything-" Garth tried to bargain.
But Vigilante didn't let him finish his sentence and beheaded the fucker. Garth's perfect princely head rolled across the pavement and into incoming traffic ran over by a freight truck shipment of fish sticks that made Vigilante cackle in laughter at the awesome irony as it exploded.
Then he hacked apart the body with his bone saw and rightfully dumped it piece by piece into the ocean to be devoured by sharks.
Sadly after that the murder day dream was over and Vigilante sprang out from his hiding spot.
As Garth rode off on his motorcycle, Vigilante walked out from behind the dumpster and mused to himself at his new love rival and your new infatuated deepsea stalker.
This so called 'Garth' wasn't good at following people, Adrian was immediately tipped off by the obvious disguise in Fennel Fields with the garish over sized shades and trucker hat on indoors. Plus who peeks over a menu to stare at the bus boy?
After confirming by asking Taylor's expert opinion that he probably didn't want to sleep with Adrian he knew that it was related to you somehow.
Besides Adrian had an extensive file on everyone at Paws a Moment to make sure nobody weird entered your inner circle. And this new guy was weird. Garth Curry, originally a lame sidekick nepo baby teen titan Aqua Lad and now the bozo went around calling himself Tempest.
"Pfft Tempest! What a fucking lame stupid superhero name." Adrian laughed to himself. "Oh no a thunder storm I'm so scared! And he can talk to fish? So what? This dude probably gets super freaky with them just like Aquaman..."
"Don't worry my honeybun, I'm not going to let some weird fish fucker steal you away all to Stargate Atlantis! Or the distant lands of Western Australia!" Adrian promised you, heading across the street to where he'd parked the Vigilante Mobile.
He had no doubt that you would ever cheat on him or pick anyone else but the pang of jealousy still plucked at his heart strings.
The insinuations that Garth had made about him not being a good boyfriend seeded a doubt inside himself and now Adrian was crippled with insecurity.
He wasn't able to take the next steps with you like moving out until Chris was back, he needed his best friends advice and support on this kind of thing. You said that you understood but he saw the frustration on your face earlier. What if you were getting tired of him?
No that couldn't be possible, your sex life was amazing and you'd said yourself that you wanted to move out with Adrian when he was ready.
Still when Adrian drove over to your place he was determined to give you that massage and make you only think of him tonight. He was completely and utterly green with jealousy.
When you got home you were affronted by a trail of rose petals that led from the front door all the way down the hallway towards your bedroom.
"Oh hey Ads, how's it going?" You asked Adebayo who was sitting on the couch watching family feud.
"I'm doing good, uh Adrian is in your room. Sorry I didn't realize it was date night." Adebayo replied.
"It's not...I'll go talk to him." You said sheepishly.
When you opened your bedroom door the opening sexy saxophone riff of George Michael's Careless Whisper immediately greeted you.
Oh, whoa, whoa, oh..
Along with Adrian who was completely naked posed languidly on your bed, the Vigilante helmet still on.
I feel so unsure...
As I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor...
He was holding a single red rose and plucked a petal letting it fall gracefully onto his strong thighs.
"Adrian?" You asked eyes widening and jaw dropped.
As the music dies, something in your eyes...
Calls to mind a silver screen and all its sad goodbyes..
"How was your day at work my foxy lady?" Adrian asked, finger suggestively circling the duvet.
"Need me to help...relieve any tension?" He was putting on a deeper voice for some reason.
"Vigilante or Adrian can do that for you tonight, ladies choice." Adrian popped off the helmet keeping it at the nightstand and put his glasses on.
I'm never gonna dance again...
Guilty feet have got no rhythm...
"Or we could do a bit of both..." He put the rose in between his teeth. "However you want me baby..." His green eyes watched yours intensely.
Though it's easy to pretend...
I know you're not a fool...
"Wow Adrian what's the special occasion?" You asked looking at all of the candles and rose petals.
"No occasion, just wanted to show my appreciation for my precious rose." Adrian grinned, taking the rose out of his teeth he handed it to you.
I should have known better than to cheat a friend...
And waste the chance that I'd been given...
"Well I really appreciate that Adrian but Ads is home tonight and out in the living room watching TV. I don't want to disturb her." You said taking the rose and smelling it.
So I'm never gonna dance again...
The way I danced with you, oh...
"Well okay no sex then, no problem-o mama cita! But let me draw you a bath so you can have a good soak and I can give you a massage after." Adrian said quickly sitting up on the bed he went to shut off the music as the next sexy saxophone solo fired up.
"That does sound nice!" You agreed cheerfully.
Then your phone buzzed. So did Adrian's.
[Ads] : I'm going to get takeout what do we think about Thai food? 🔥
"Ooh yum!" Adrian agreed.
[You] : Yes please! Thanks Ads 💫
[Ads] : I'll get it from that place on the other side of town. It'll take exactly 1 hour 5 minutes. 😈
[Adrian] : Why not the Thai place near here? You could get it in 15 mins easy! 🤔
[Ads] : Sure if that's only how long you two would need... 😂
[You] : I prefer the other place. Thanks Ads! 🙏
[Ads] : No worries 👍
[Adrian] : But it's literally the same chain of Thai restaurants??? 🧜♂️
You heard the front door close shut and grinned.
"What but why not..." Adrian began to argue but stopped when you stripped off your top and pressed play on the stereo.
Tonight, the music seems so loud...
I wish that we could lose this crowd!
"Come on, we've got an hour to make sweet sweet love!" You giggled and Adrian nodded eagerly helping you out of your scrubs.
"God that uniform is so hot..." He murmured kissing your neck. "How was work?"
"It was great! Night shift went by smoothly and we didn't have any emergencies tonight so it was just me and Garth locking up..." You started but paused when Adrian gripped you tightly.
At the mention of that name Adrian sucked a rough hickey into crook of your neck making you groan. When you looked down at him his expression was innocent but his green eyes held something serious and intense within them.
"Adrian?" You asked. Was he mad about something?
"Sorry keep going." Adrian said gently kissing your neck again.
"Well anyway tomorrow is going to be super exciting because you know how I told you to keep your calendar free? That's because it's field trip day to the Evergreen Zoo and we can bring partners!" You announced excitedly.
While Adrian had listened in on the conversation you and that asshole Garth had, as soon as you mentioned a surprise for him he'd jammed his fingers into his ears so he wouldn't ruin it.
"Woah that's awesome my sugar plum! Who are you taking along?" Adrian asked, he wanted you to say it.
"You of course silly!" You giggled, swatting him on the shoulder.
"And who am I?" Adrian needed you to say it.
"You're my boyfriend of course!" You said a bit confused at his attitude tonight. "Honey bear what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just needed to hear you say that." Adrian admitted with a slight whimper.
"Oh my hunky dreamboat!" You said soothingly, running your hands through his curly hair. "Of course I'm your girlfriend, I'm your love and your ride or die!"
"Yeah...you're my girlfriend." Adrian firmly whispered into your ear.
You nodded, kissing him on the forehead.
"You're mine." Adrian said, shifting himself lower and gripped your thighs.
"Nobody elses." He parted them and sucked another hickey into your inner thigh making you gasp with a pleasured moan.
"Mine..." Adrian repeated, giving your other thigh the same treatment.
"A-Adrian..." You said breathlessly, what had gotten into him tonight?
"Say it. Say you're mine." Adrian plunged his fingers inside your core, his thumb caressing your clit, his other hand firmly grasping your hair so you were looking directly into his eyes.
"I-I'm yours Adrian." You told him shakily.
"Yeah baby...you're mine. All mine." Adrian nodded with a satisfied grunt.
"This sweet pussy is all mine too isn't it?" He added another digit inside and began a punishing pace fucking you with them.
"Y-yes it is Adrian...oh god..." You cried out.
"I'm the only one that gets you off like this!" Adrian snapped. "Nobody else knows how you fucking like it...they could never give it to you this good." He told you in a harsh whisper, moving down to suck on your nipples.
"D-did something happen on patrol tonight?" You asked him in-between breathy moans.
His possessiveness was off the charts tonight.
"Guess you could say that." Adrian replied with a shrug and went back to swirling his tongue against your hardened pebbles kneading the other with his free hand.
"It's no big deal though, just some stupid guy that thinks he can take something that isn't his." Adrian curled his knuckles just right how he knew you liked it and shuddered when you cried out for him.
"L-like a robbery?" You asked, gripping his curly hair tightly as he was making you become completely undone.
"Did you stop him?" Your panting voice told Adrian that you were close.
Adrian knew you loved hearing about his Vigilante heroics, you tightened around him so sweetly.
"Yeah...he ended up running away scared not trying anything in the end like a little scared bitch." Adrian said and enjoyed how you moaned at that trembling beneath him.
"But if I ever see that fucker again though I'll make sure that he knows he can't go around taking..." Adrian thrusted his fingers nice and deep coating them with your slickness.
"What's not his..." He grunted into your ear as he felt your incredible orgasm ripple through your core against his fingers and his name on your lips.
It was a sensation Adrian could never get enough of, he was addicted to how you looked underneath him like this.
Taking his fingers out of you he sucked them clean with a sweet moan.
"Fuck you taste so good..." Adrian panted. "And only I get to taste you I'm the luckiest guy in the whole damn world."
"Now how does my girl want me? I'll give it to you anyway you want." He asked leaning over you.
"Adrian I want you inside me." You groaned tilting your head back.
"Yeah...fuck yes you do. Because this cock is all yours baby!" Adrian grinned then his green eyes sparkled like they always did when he had an idea.
"I said I'd give you a massage so why don't you turn around for me?" He suggested, getting the massage oil he'd bought out.
"Okay..." You agreed, excited at where this was going. Adrian put a pillow under your stomach and pressed you into the mattress.
"I'm going to pour it onto your back now my beautiful starshine." Adrian cooed, tipping the bottle down your shoulders and back.
You braced yourself for a cold liquid but it surprisingly felt warm and you sighed at how nice it was. The aroma was lovely too a heavenly lavender.
"You like that? I got this one that produces gentle heat to the skin, fascia, muscles and other soft tissue structures..." Adrian said soothingly, his large hands going to your shoulders rubbing it in deeply.
"Oh Adrian, I love it...and the lavender is so wonderful." You sighed dreamily at how good his hands felt.
"Yeah I selected lavender because it's super soothing and used for stress relief, sleep support and helps boost stamina and energy." Adrian kept listing off his facts while digging the flat of his palms into the small of your back. It felt amazing.
"Hmm it's so nice..." You hummed.
"Lavender is also considered to be soothing and balancing which means it helps the body adapt to what it needs..." Adrian finished his sentence by resting his erection flush against your back.
"Oh really does it now?" You asked teasingly.
"Yeah it helps stretch the muscles and releases tension, and the systematic muscle massage I'm giving you will help loosen up all of your joints and ligaments." Adrian went a bit too scientific again excited to share his facts with you.
But the point definitely still came across loud and clear with how the tip of his cock rubbed against the small of your back.
"I also got the self warming oil for it's penetrative qualities..." Adrian informed you, and you heard the unwrapping of a condom wrapper.
"Sounds like just what I need..." You said, turning back to give Adrian a wolfish grin which he returned with one of this own.
"Yeah you need it baby..." Adrian agreed and without any further teasing used a hand to guide himself inside you.
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard...
Your phone suddenly buzzed with a phonecall.
"Oh shit is that Ads?" You asked him. "Maybe she's back early..."
"Hold on I'll check." Adrian picked it up off the bedside table and saw that it was Garth calling. What the fuck did this asshole want?
"Yeah hello?" Adrian answered your phone, still inside you. Your eyes went wide but Adrian smiled down at you the lust filled expression on his face melting away any real protests.
"Oh sorry who is this? I was trying to reach my colleague do I have the right number..." Garth replied politely.
"No who is this? You're speaking with Adrian, her boyfriend." Adrian replied, starting to thrust inside you as he spoke.
"Adrian!" You gasped at that and clamped your hands over your mouth to try and keep quiet.
"Ah, right. It's Garth Curry, I work at Paws a Moment. She left something of hers at work in the parking lot and I was hoping to drop it off at her place. I'm waiting outside the front door." Garth explained, holding a scarf that he'd actually noticed before you left for the night.
But this was the perfect excuse to come see you.
Adrian saw red. This fucker knew where you lived?!
"How the hell do you know her address?" Adrian demanded and you stared up confused at first but then he began to move again harder this time and you concentrated on trying to be silent.
"Well I looked it up on the company computer. We have emergency contact info and it's meant to be cold tomorrow so I didn't want her to not have a scarf." Garth doubled down.
"Sure that's not creepy at all. Well she's not available at the moment so how about you walk around to the side entrance? There's a balcony you can leave it on." Adrian told him still slowly rutting away, you had to bite down on the pillow to be quiet.
"Great, I'll go do that then." Garth said, a little bit disappointed you weren't home but at least he could leave a little note with it.
"Killer. Bye bye now!" Adrian hung up on him, putting your phone back.
"What was that all about?" You asked with a huff, you supposed it was only fair given what you'd done to him with John that one time.
"Just some delivery or telemarketer bullshit, now where were we?" Adrian replied, gripping your hips he started to thrust an unforgiving pace and ensured the angle meant he was as deep inside you as possible.
Adrian knew his trigonometry and felt the efforts of his calculations when you moaned in utter untethered pleasure at the curve of him inside you.
"Scream my name out, I want to hear you say it." Adrian ordered you, rolling his hips with such vigor that you couldn't think straight.
"Adrian!" You called out, your face leant up against the headboard as Adrian fucked you doggy style into the mattress.
"That's it!" Adrian praised you. "Let everyone know it's me doing this to you!" Drilling deep inside you from behind Adrian leant back to get a nice vantage point of the glass balcony door.
Looking back with a big shit eating grin he saw Garth approaching the side entrance and cross over to the balcony with a small jump.
"Adrian...oh fuck Adrian!" You screamed for him.
Adrian enthusiastically waved hello to Garth as he dropped the scarf in horror at the insanely pornographic scene in front of him.
"Yeah baby, that's a good girl! You're so tight for me..." Adrian spanked your ass and you groaned at how nice and rough he was being tonight.
"Who fucks you right?" He asked you fingers digging into your hips.
"Y-you do Adrian!" You relied needily in a loud moan that echoed off the walls.
"Yeah I do baby! And who am I?" Adrian asked you with another loud slap, green eyes locked with Garth's purple.
"Y-you're my b-boyfriend!" You cried out for him.
"Fuck yes I am..." Adrian agreed, grinning back at his pathetic rival as he pumped away.
"And I'm your g-girlfriend..." You added, shaking your hips back making Adrian nearly blow his load right then and there.
"That's right baby...you're all mine." Adrian gave your back a loving kiss, smirking when he saw Garth turn tail and run.
Once he was gone, Adrian turned shuddering against you as he picked up the pace.
He'd shown that fucker who your man was.
Literally.
"Fuck...I'm your man!" Adrian shouted, slamming his hips into you. "I-I'm the one who gives it to you so good!" His forehead pressed up against your neck drenched in sweat.
"I'd fucking kill any other guy that tried it..." He whispered into your ear, making you moan clamping down tight around him.
It was so animalistic but fucking you in front of his so called 'rival' flipped a great big switch in his brain. Tomorrow at the zoo he'd show that asshole again if he needed the reminder.
"I'm yours baby! Are you mine?" Adrian cried out in a desperate pant. "Please say you're mine...please please please!" He begged with you to keep saying it for him. Waves of jealousy were ridden out of him with every jolt of his hips.
Adrian felt so god damn close.
"I'm yours Adrian!" You cried back.
And so were you.
Both of you finished together in a flurry of a loud chanting of eachothers names.
"Wow honey bear what's gotten into you tonight?" You asked him, turning to give him a loving kiss on the jaw.
"Just felt like claiming you a little. Hope that was okay and not objectifying..." Adrian said anxiously.
"Last night you were unhinged. You were like some desperate, howling demon. You frightened me. Do it again." You quoted Morticia Addams with a laugh.
"I would die for her. I would kill for her. Either way, what bliss..." Adrian replied with a grin smooching you on the lips. He'd be your Gomez anytime.
A little while later you had a bath together and got changed for some Thai food when Adebayo returned. Watching Jeopardy you and Adebayo giggled at Adrian trying to guess every answer and getting it wrong each time with a cute 'darn it!' then it was time to go to bed, Adrian sleeping over so you could get to the zoo early tomorrow.
"Huh that's weird..." You said the next morning over your coffee.
"What is my sugar bear?" Adrian asked drinking his hot chocolate with six mini marshmallows. Three pink and three white. No other amount would do.
"I found my scarf that I wore last night on the balcony..." You picked it up and a slip of paper fell out. Adrian picked it up and unfolded it.
You may have won this round Vigilante. But the wars not over yet. -Tempest.
"What's it say?" You asked.
"Just some incel garbage." Adrian crumpled it up.
You were a bit confused at that but shrugged and went back inside to finish getting ready.
"I can't wait to go to the zoo together!" Adrian said brightly when you both got into the Sebring.
The Spice Girls Who Do You Think Are played on the CD player as Adrian started up the car.
The race is on to get out of the bottom...
The top is high so your roots are forgotten...
"Same here, it's been a while." You agreed. "Remember when we went back in middle school?"
"Of course I do my honeybun! I'll impress you with my amazing animal facts all over again." Adrian proclaimed.
"Guess what else? We also get to go to the aquarium." You told him and watched his expression light up.
"That's amazing!" He was so pumped.
"That's not even the best part, I arranged for you to get to feed the manta rays!" You saw his expression completely light up into a brilliant smile.
"Holy shit! No way, that's so fucking awesome!" He fist pumped the air in pure joy. "Thank you my precious sunset I cannot fucking wait! I love manta rays!" The rest of the car trip Adrian told you some questionable manta ray facts.
Giving is good as long as you're getting...
What's driving you is ambition I'm betting..
While he was keeping up a goofy exterior Adrian was internally preparing for war today. Pulling up to the parking lot he could see that idiot Garth was arriving at the same time.
I said who do you think you are?
I said who...
Some kind of superstar?
Garth Curry swung off his motorcycle and cast aside his helmet, perfect raven black hair bouncing against the sun as it rested by his broad shoulders.
You have got to...
Swing it shake it move it make it
Who do you think you are?
Dressed in a midnight blue leather jacket that he shrugged off to reveal his toned arms and amazing physique in a purposefully tight Evergreen surfers club T-shirt, black jeans and polished royal blue doc martens Garth knew he looked irresistible.
Trust it use it prove it groove it...
Show me how good you are!
Swing it shake it move it make it...
His enchanting purple eyes scanned through the employees, most of whom were swooning over him or admiring how cool he was.
Then he found the one person he really wanted to see that entrance who wasn't even paying attention, you.
You're swelling out in the wrong direction...
You've got the bug superstar you've been bitten...
Meanwhile Adrian was in his standard green and white striped collared jumper with high waisted faded belted mom jeans with bright white dad new balances. His unruly curly hair and wire framed glasses magnified his green eyes wider giving him a ridiculous expression.
Your trumpet's blowing for far too long
Climbing the snake up the ladder but you're wrong...
Yet for whatever reason you were staring at him like he was the prince and not even glancing in Garth's direction. It was infuriating, yet in all of his research Vigilante didn't appear to have any sort of mind control ability.
Chatting away with your lackluster peasant boyfriend whose green eyes stared a hole into Garth's head before Adrian dropped them to kiss you on the lips, hands wrapping around your waist and one cupped your backside which you gave him a playful shove for.
Garth blushed furiously getting reminded of the debaucherous sight he'd witnessed last night and covered it up with a polite cough. He didn't hold it against you of course, you didn't know any better than this brute.
But Garth would show you how a true gentleman courted a lady. There would be no sex before marriage of course but Garth would bestow that honor onto you as soon as you agreed to be his underwater bride.
He began to get lost envisioning your life together and him in the place of Adrian making love to you but on a royal bed fit for a queen and was suddenly interrupted by a shout of his name.
"Garth! Hello, over here!" You called him over with a cute wave and he quickly accepted walking past the others trying to get his attention.
"Hi Andy right?" Garth said with an annoyingly dashing grin, putting his hand out.
"No, it's Adrian." Adrian corrected him politely taking his hand to shake it. "If you need to hear it again I'm sure she'll say my name plenty of times today for you to remember it." He added with an impish smirk.
"Garth Curry, I'm a veterinarian surgeon and I specialize in marine animals. I'm also currently completing my doctorate in marine biology." Garth introduced himself with such a princely aura that a few passerbys swooned.
"Cool. I work as a busboy at Fennel Fields. I'm also currently completing the high score on Ms. Pac-Man at the Evergreen arcade." Adrian said his credentials with the same gravitas.
"Garth likes D&D too!" You said excited to see the two bond.
Garth blushed at that looking embarrassed that you announced it so loudly.
"Oh yeah what's your favourite campaign source book?" Adrian scoffed. There was no one on the planet more versed than him in D&D.
"Well I've been playing Ghosts of the Salt marshes with some buddies of mine." Garth replied.
"5th edition?" Adrian rolled his eyes.
"Adrian!" You elbowed him to play nice.
"What? The best campaign setting sourcebook is obviously the AD&D 2nd edition genre-defying masterpiece Dark Sun. I can't help it if he just gave a stupid answer." Adrian replied haughty folding his arms.
"Sorry about him." You said and Garth shone a dazzling set of pearly white teeth in your direction.
Adrian wanted to pull every single one of them out of his stupid handsome face and use them to decorate the tree at Christmas.
"No need, I'm more of a casual player. I like to focus on more active things such as surfing, swimming, water polo, scuba diving...that kind of thing." Garth made sure to flex his impressive arms as he held open the gate to the zoo for you both to enter.
"I can actually hold my breath underwater for a really really really long time..." He said suggestively at you with a waggle of his eyebrows.
"Wow impressive!" You said walking past and not getting the double meaning.
"More like lame...I can be choked for a really really really long time." Adrian muttered under his breath following you in.
"I'll get us some drinks!" You said cheerfully heading to the concession stand, hoping to give them some time to get to know each other.
"What's your damage?" Adrian asked Garth when you were out of earshot. "You into watching me fucking my girlfriend? First times free but I'll have to start charging."
"No need to worry, there won't be a next time. I'm sure she'll see to reason soon enough that I'm the superior choice. I'm the Prince of Atlantis and can offer her the life she deserves, while you're just some bus boy wannabe Batman holding her back. Nothing more than a pathetic childhood friend who latched onto her like a barnacle when her life was going down like the Titanic with her terrible husband. But I'll make her see her true worth which is at my side." Garth replied, his voice like ice.
Adrian looked back at him shocked.
"That's right, she told me all about it. I'm a fantastic listener. Another great quality I have that you don't." Garth grinned at how stunned Adrian was.
"She's not only a beauty but a genius, I've been helping her go for her proper medical license and write a paper for the upcoming conference in Blüdhaven." Garth enjoyed seeing Adrian's frown at that.
"Aww she didn't tell you? We find out if our papers got accepted this week. Then work will set us up in a hotel room together." Garth continued.
Adrian's heart sank. You had never kept this kind of stuff from him before.
"I knew all about that! Shut up you fish fucker..." Adrian snapped as he saw you returning, drinks in hand.
"Hey here you go! What did you guys talk about while I was away?" You asked.
"Just work stuff." Adrian said bitterly.
"We were talking about you and your incredible achievements!" Garth said brightly.
"What do you mean?" You were confused.
"Studying for your license and the paper you've written silly!" Garth replied and you glared at him.
"Hey! I thought I told you I was going to let Adrian know about the paper on this trip today. Besides it hasn't even been accepted yet." You said annoyed the news had been spoiled like that.
Garth found your pouty face absolutely adorable.
"Well I read your paper and it's brilliant!" He exclaimed clapping his hands together.
"He read it?" Adrian looked devastated. "Why didn't you get me to read it my gorgeous sunflower?"
"I never gave you my paper to read." You said pointedly feeling frustrated.
"Sorry, it was up on the screen at work and I couldn't help myself...don't be mad!" Garth explained quickly. "We'll still be study buddies together for your license right? I can be your personal tutor..." He asked hopefully.
"Thanks for the offer but I study better on my own, I was just asking the other day about what textbooks you used." You explained politely and saw Garth's face fall.
Meanwhile Adrian's face had lit right back up again victoriously.
"What's your paper on my sweet pumpkin?" Adrian asked, linking your arm in his to start going around the zoo together.
"Oh it's about the saw-whet owl Duo that I helped nurse back to health and my theory that keeping the window open and letting its mate Lingo come in to see him helped the healing process..." You explained excited to share.
The day went by looking at the exhibits and Adrian telling you a mixture of some legitimate and questionable facts on the animals like any other trip to the zoo.
Except this time he had an annoying fact checker third wheeling their zoo date. At the moment you were gushing over how cute the meerkats were.
"Meerkats have those little dark rings around their eyes because they don't sleep enough and keep watch all the time." Adrian told you, his arm around your waist.
"That's interesting!" He said it so confidently that you nodded along. Then a loud clearing of a throat made you both look behind you.
"I think you'll find those patches are actually there to help protect their eyes from the sun." Garth informed you both.
"Huh, that's interesting too!" You said cheerfully. Adrian's grip tightened around your waist when you complimented Garth's fact.
"You're thinking of sunglasses. And yeah I'd love to see a meerkat in a pair who the fuck wouldn't but I don't see them wearing any do you?" Adrian challenged him.
"Adrian, I think he's actually right about that one." You replied softly unsure why Adrian was so riled up today.
Adrian looked at you like you'd just slapped him, removing his arm from your waist.
"Well if prince Eric is so right why don't you go around the zoo with him instead then?" Adrian snapped.
"Adrian, what's wrong?" You asked him.
"Maybe afterwards you guys can go fuck in your fancy conference hotel room!" Adrian continued tearing up his face flashed bright red before he stormed off.
"I'm just dragging you down..." You heard him mutter and despite your efforts to flag him down he was lost in the crowd.
"Well that's settled then." Garth smiled down at you. "Let's head to the aquarium?"
"What the hell did you say to Adrian?!" You roared at Garth who cringed back from your wrath.
"I uh..." Garth gulped heavily under the ire of your angry gaze.
Meanwhile Adrian had fled to the aquarium and was hiding out next to the seahorse exhibit. He sadly watched a couple of seahorses in love drifting along, the male one pregnant being supported by it's lover.
"I'll never experience love again or discover what motherhood feels like..." Adrian sobbed into his palms. "What's even the fucking point?"
"Well I can probably only help you out with that first thing sorry." You called out to him and Adrian turned away arms folded, bottom lip stuck out.
"Come on don't be like that Adrian. As if I'd leave you for anyone else!" You took his hands into yours and they were trembling. His knees were shaking up and down.
"Why not? He's way cooler than me...plus he's a prince from Atlantis." Adrian said hiccuping with a sob he couldn't contain any longer.
"Uh no he's not cooler than you and I don't care about that kind of thing at all." You reassured him with a hug.
"You know already that he's a prince and stuff?" Adrian asked wiping his eyes.
"Yeah Garth told me he's like Aquaman's adopted son or something?" You said with a shrug. "He goes around calling himself Tempest but I mean whens the last time you saw him saving the world from the butterfly invasion?"
"But what about the hotel room?" Adrian gave you a big sad puppy dog stare.
"The conference is offered online. I wasn't going to attend in person and I certainly wouldn't share a hotel room with a random guy." You said, standing up you offered a hand to Adrian.
"Now come on my pretty prince, the manta rays are hungry it's their lunch time!" You told him.
"Okay my precious princess, don't want to keep them waiting!" Adrian gladly took it and felt silly for getting upset. Of course you wouldn't leave him like that.
When you both got to the manta rays you saw that they were all sitting around the edge of the tank.
"Sorry we can't seem to get them to come over here, they're all huddled around that man over there..." One of the zoo keepers explained, pointing to Garth who was sitting beside the tank crying.
"Oh geez..." You grimaced.
"What's his problem?" Adrian pointed right at him.
"I kinda...yelled at him earlier for saying those things and making you upset." You admitted feeling guilty
"Haha yes my foxy lady that's fucking awesome!" Adrian scoffed. "Wish I had seen that! Can you do it again? I'll record it on my phone."
"Adrian! That's not nice. Garth means well he's just a bit awkward and doesn't really get societal cues because he's from Atlantis and they do things differently there. Also he grew up as a prince so he's very sheltered and spoiled, used to getting what he wants." You explained and when Adrian looked at how sad Garth was his own face fell.
"Wow poor guy. That sounds really tough to deal with actually. I wonder what that'd be like to be the odd one out, awkward, sheltered and not even get obvious social cues..." Adrian mused, then he wandered over to him.
"Yeah that's something you don't really have any experience in huh?" You said following Adrian along with a chuckle.
"Hey, did you want to feed the manta rays with us?" Adrian asked Garth who tried to hide away.
"Leave me alone! I know you both hate me now..." He sniffled. "The manta rays are my friends and we're chatting so go away."
"Woah sick what are you guys talking about? Can I join?" Adrian sat down cross legged next to him and you also approached them.
"Sorry I yelled at you earlier Garth. But I don't hate you and I would really like to be friends still." You said earnestly and Garth mulled that over.
"Same here!" Adrian nodded.
"Well...okay I forgive you. Guess I won't actually order to execute either of these two when I return to Atlantis manta rays please rescind the message." Garth informed the manta rays who circled around in understanding.
"Uh...what?" You and Adrian said dumbfounded.
"I'm joking! We've been discussing Star Trek." Garth admitted sheepishly.
"Killer! Which series?" Adrian asked, green eyes lighting up at the mention of one of his big hyperfixations.
"Well duh, Voyager. The best series obviously." Garth replied with a grin.
"Ugh yes. Captain Janeway...a man of culture I see!" Adrian nodded in complete understanding.
"Don't forget Seven of Nine!" Garth said.
"Nobody could ever forget Seven of Nine, Jeri Ryan is like every nerds sexual awakening." You agreed nodding along.
"So true..." Adrian and Garth said at the same time and then laughed.
"Hey these fellas are hungry shall we feed them?" Garth stood up with a big dopey grin on his face.
"Heck yes! Can you ask them if their favorite color is teal?" Adrian leapt up and got the bag of fish meal ready.
"You're right teal is actually all of their favorite color because it reminds them of the pelagic zone that they live in!" Garth replied excitedly.
"Woah that's my favorite color too! That's so fucking cool..." Adrian grinned ear to ear.
Tossing the food into the tank the three of you watched on in awe as the manta rays majestically drifted near the surface to feed.
The afternoon was then unfortunately over and the zoo was set to close. Standing by the gates in the parking lot the three of you chatted about the X-Files until it got dark and it was time to go home.
Doctor Jones, Jones! Calling Doctor Jones, Doctor
Jones, Doctor Jones, get up now...
Garth's phone buzzed with the ring tone Doctor Jones by Aqua.
"Baller ringtone!" Adrian approved with a thumbs up.
"Hello who is this?" Garth asked. "Oh fantastic, yes I accept and see you then." He hung up and smiled back at you two.
"I got my trip to Western Australia all approved! Oh and I'm betrothed to get married to Dolphin so I don't need to worry about finding a partner anymore. What a relief!" He laughed loudly and Adrian joined in the two of them sounding equally unhinged.
"Congrats!" Adrian gave him a high five.
"Wow that's awesome, congratulations Garth!" You have him a friendly hug.
"Thanks so much for today the both of you! I learned a lot about what a relationship should be like from watching you two." Garth told you both with an endearing grin.
"Aww that's so sweet of you to say!" You smiled back and Adrian put his arm around your shoulder.
"Also I finally got to see what sex actually looks like last night so now I know how to perform it when the time is right!" Garth shouted as he rode off into the sunset, waving you both a fond goodbye.
"What?!" You exclaimed turning to Adrian.
"I don't know what the fuck he is even talking about..."Adrian lied, suddenly unable to make eye contact with you.
"Probably just a weird traditional Atlantean goodbye you know? I finally got to see what sex looks like bye bye my land dwelling friends back off to the ocean I go! Aquaman probably says the same thing to the Justice League after every mission..." He drifted off still staring in the opposite direction.
Adrian kept trying to convince you on the drive home it was nothing. But you kept your glare, arms rigidly folded until he relented and finally told you the truth.
Summary: She’s still in her first year at Checkmate and getting partnered with Adrian on a mission seems like a trap - especially since she’s fighting her crush on him and now they have to play newlyweds with virtually no support from the others. What will they do as nothing seems to ever go right on this mission?

An hour really wasn’t enough time when she broke down everything she wanted to do.
She needed to calm down, she needed to take a second for herself, and fuck, she wanted to just be back in that room with Adrian’s moans.
One of her favorite things about Adrian was the fact that he didn’t seem to even understand how fucking hot he was. He walked around in his dumb polos, ill fitted jeans, and Dahmer glasses as if he also didn’t have the most delicious looking biceps, curls to wrap her fingers in, and canines she desperately wanted him to sink into her neck before pressing sweet wet kisses up and down her neck, her whole body, stopping only when he finally reached her-
She needed to stop.
He was infuriating that way.
He seemed to truly have no idea what his touches and smiles were doing for her as they strolled around pretending to be newlyweds. The fact they were not married was not even enough for a reprieve at night, she would still be sleeping next to him.
So close, but unable to touch. No matter how badly she wanted to.
Adrian wasn’t shy with his feelings. She knew that he and Chris sometimes had threesomes together, so she knew he wasn’t necessarily uninterested in something sexual, but as for a relationship, she had no clue. To her knowledge, he had never had a girlfriend, at least not one he had talked about at work. Then again, a lot of their coworkers tried to keep their personal lives out of work.
Normally she was in the same boat, but around Adrian she felt like a schoolgirl with her rising crush. The way heat would rise on her face whenever he made a silly joke or showed her an ounce of attention and the first time he invited her out with the rest of the office her heart had stuttered so hard in her chest she thought she was going to black out.
She needed to snap out of it. She needed to remember why she was there. She needed to focus on her job.
In order to do that, she needed to have herself a little reset. She pulled out her phone and set a timer for 45 minutes, giving herself a hopeful 15 minutes to prepare herself for the door to open and go back to hiding her stupid crush from Adrian.
So she got to work. First things first she took a shower, taking extra time with her hair and scrubbing her body after being in the pool with other people. Once she was done, she washed her face and put on some comfy pajamas. It was still early in the evening, but she figured it wouldn’t take much to convince Adrian to order room service again. She knew they were due to eat in one of the restaurants soon just to scope out more options to catch any of the targets, but after the loss of today she wasn’t sure she could sit through another one so quickly.
Once she was situated in her pajamas she placed a few star pimple patches on her face and she pulled a book out of her suitcase. She moved slowly towards her side of the bed as she got comfy, checking her timer to find only a few minutes left. She took a deep breath as she started to read. Anything to distract herself from the fact that any minute Adrian would come into the room and probably throw himself onto the bed, yapping a mile a minute probably about some unrelated stranger that was at the spa.
But the hour mark came and went and it wasn’t until almost two hours later there was a soft knock on the door. She looked up from her book, but the door didn’t open. A few seconds later there was another soft knock, the same volume as before.
“Come in?” she asked, more confused than anything as Adrian opened the door and peeked in. He kept his body outside the room, barely pulling himself through to see her. She fought the smile on her face as his eyes searched her face, probably for any discomfort.
“Can I come take a shower?” he said in a very poor whisper, he looked fully apologetic and as if he was fully expecting her to shoo him away from their shared room.
“Yes, Adrian. You can come take a shower,” she said with a gentle laugh as he nodded and quickly dashed into the room grabbing his stuff and running into the bathroom, the shower started a few seconds later. She couldn’t help the smile as Adrian was clearly still worried about her and wanted to give her space she had not so nicely asked for.
If she was honest, that was what pissed her off the most about Adrian. The fact that he seemed to really care about her, but never did he try to make a move on her. She still wasn’t clear where she fell on his best friend list either. She had overheard Chris even ask Adrian about her and said list and Adrian got weird and defensive about it.
She knew she wouldn’t rank above Chris or any of the 11th Street Kids, but damn she at least wanted to make sure he liked her more than Judomaster. Adrian would proudly talk about how low Judomaster was on his list.
She was pulled out of her thoughts as Adrian began singing in the shower, clearly the need for quiet only lasted as long as she was in front of him.
Still, it was cute and private. She wondered if any of the others knew Adrian sang pop songs in the shower. Maybe Chris knew, but she could imagine Adrian pretending to pick a more “manly” song if he were to sing around his best friend. So even if it was weird or selfish she couldn’t help but imagine this being for her, just for her.
His shower wasn’t too long, just about five songs - two of which were the same Sabrina Carpenter song back to back. She could tell by the noises that at this point he was just puttering around in the bathroom to give her even more space, but he was running out of tasks to do.
“Hey, you’re good,” she shouted after she heard him brush his teeth for what had to be the sixth time when he was clearly just him trying to kill time.
“Oh, I wasn’t doing anything, I was just…doing my super long nighttime routine?” he tried as she listened to him move towards the door, still hesitating to come out. “There’s like fifty steps.”
“Adrian, you brushed your teeth like five times,” she said looking up from her book.
“Yeah, that’s steps eight through thirteen,” he said and she laughed.
“Adrian, I’m feeling much better. You can come out. Besides, we still need to order dinner,” she said, and he finally opened the door from the bathroom. He did a quick peek at her before finally walking out of the bathroom.
She looked up from her book and was met with a sight she had dreams about. His hair was still damp, his towel wrapped around his shoulders, his Star Wars pajama pants were frustratingly low on his hips with no shirt. She was pleased to see a small happy trail leading down. He looked absolutely delish and completely out of her reach.
“What are those stickers on your face?” Adrian asked, as her eyes continued to follow him around the room.
“They’re pimple patches, do you want a couple?” she asked, putting her bookmark in her book as Adrian sat on the edge of the bed closer to her. She reached over after digging them out of her small toiletry bag and held out the small container she kept them in. Adrian snatched it and started to inspect it.
“We just did a whole spa thing, you came up here to do more?” he asked, handing them back to her.
“Don’t judge, now do you want me to put some on you or not?”
“I feel like I should be slightly insulted by you calling out my acne,” he said, moving closer to her.
“Then be insulted, I’m offering to help,” she said with a shrug and Adrian let out a loud laugh, one that almost sounded fake, but she had grown to understand that was just his laugh. “Besides I’m literally wearing three right now, I’m not hiding my acne.”
“Okay, then put some on me,” he said, putting on a fake pout while she rolled her eyes but took the container and moved closer to Adrian. Pulling off a few of the stars and putting them on his face, using one hand to bump his chin so she can get a closer look and forcing him to look up slightly.
“Stop being an ass, I’m trying to help you,” she tsked and Adrian grumbled, but at least stopped fidgeting as much. “You also asked me to put these on you, why are you being like this?”
“I just don’t like people touching me, it freaks me out!” he said as she grabbed his chin, finally holding steady. She did loosen her grip on him, enough that she could feel him physically relax underneath her touch. “It’s hard going from being Vigilante and fighting people and then people just touching you normally. Like soft touches, it’s like just waiting for the other shoe to drop.”
“Well, I promise I’m not going to hurt you and only touch when necessary, okay?” she murmured, heart slightly clenching as she wondered how long it’s been since Adrian has let someone touch him like this. She placed one of the yellow stars on the side of his nose, she added careful pressure to make sure it would stick.
“Okay,” he murmured and she tilted his head and placed a second star on his forehead. She smiled as she pushed his damp curls back and Adrian shuddered under her touch, his hands flying to her waist as if he was trying to anchor her in front of him.
“You’re pretty touchy too for someone who just said you don’t like soft touches,” she teased as she closed the compartment and Adrian made no moves to release her.
“I just like how you touch me,” he murmured as he squeezed her side, she fought the urge to let out a gasp. She found herself focusing on his green eyes, large behind his glasses as he smiled brightly at her. Her heart pounding as she found herself lost in his eyes, stressed that so much of his attention was on her and there was no audience for them to perform for…this was just Adrian being Adrian.
“What…what do you want to do for dinner?” she asked, deflecting the best she could as Adrian’s face fell. His hands pulled back from her waist and settled in his lap, moving himself so he wasn’t facing her anymore.
“We can order room service,” he said, sighing as he got up and grabbed a clean shirt. “Do you want the same thing as last night?”
“Um, yeah if you’re okay doing room service again? If you’d rather go somewhere we can,” she said, trying to pull him back in and he shook his head.
“No, that’s fine, I’ll call it in,” he said, grabbing the phone and ordering the exact same thing they got the night before. She gave him a frown as he fidgeted and focused on anything that wasn’t her, but he respected her privacy earlier so she tried her best to do the same. She got out of bed, put her book away, and got things set up for their dinner.
“How was the rest of the spa?” she asked gently as they waited for their dinner. Adrian sighed.
“No luck, I didn’t see anyone from the dossier at all,” he said, laying down on the bed, face first. She frowned.
“Do you think we’re doing something wrong?” she asked.
“No, I mean…we’re following the dossier to a tee, I think we’re just having a bit of bad luck,” he said. She sat back down on the bed, Adrian turned his head so he could look at her, still starfish on the bed. “You’re a great agent, we’re going to figure this out,” he said, eyes locked on hers.
“Tomorrow we should get dinner in the hotel restaurant, see if we can find any of the contacts,” she said, avoiding Adrian’s compliment which made him smile.
“You know, you’re supposed to say I’m a good agent back,” he teased, sitting up and she rolled her eyes.
“I’d say you’re a better agent if we actually had any progress on this mission,” she teased and Adrian let out a laugh.
“Yeah, that’s fair,” he said, getting up at the knock at the door and grabbing their dinner. She smiled as he handed her her plate first and then grabbed his own and dug in. “I think I’m going to go for a run in the morning, scope out a few places, but I’ve also just been itching to move,” Adrian said, she looked over and even in the lowlight she could make out his profile as he looked at the wall, his hands fidgeting.
“Do you want me to go with you?” she asked and he pursed his lips.
“Maybe, you can meet me for breakfast and we can go from there?” he asked.
“Okay, breakfast at nine?” she repeated and Adrian nodded.
“Sounds perfect. I’ll make sure to be as quiet as possible in the morning,” he said and the rest of the evening ended with very little small talk, but every time her eyes caught the pimple patches on his face she couldn’t help but smile. Maybe if at the end of this mission, if all she had were small moments nursing her crush on the strange man it would still be worth it.

The fifteen-hour drive back down to Vegas flew by much faster with you sitting in the passenger seat, Adrian thinks.
The mission itself flies by, too. Five days ago, he laid just like this in this stupid motel room bed, in silent agony, missing you, dreading the silent, lonely nights ahead of him.
Now, he lies here with you sat astride him, stuffed full of his cock, and the bed frame rattles and squeaks, matching your little moans and gasps every time he thrusts up into you, your breasts bouncing, your nails digging into his chest.
“Come on, baby,” he pants. “Oh, fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck—”
“Ah—oh, god,” you sigh, rolling your hips so Adrian’s cock hits you right where you want it. You fall forward a little, let yourself rest on his chest, and he takes over entirely, grabbing you by the hips, lifting you up and dropping you back down, relishing in the tiny noises that escape you every time he hits you nice and deep.
Lying forward like this, your face hovers just above his, and you lean down the few inches to connect your lips with his. He groans at the back of his throat when your lips trail down his jaw, when your teeth nibble at the skin of his neck.
“I’m gonna—need you to come, baby, please, I need it,” he says over the sound of his hips snapping up into yours. He can feel that you’re close from the way you’re holding yourself so tensely. “Touch yourself for me, you can—”
Your hand works between your bodies, between your legs, right to where you’re joined, and rubs furiously at your clit. “Adrian—Adrian—”
He feels it when you shatter, your entire body trembling, and his own body shudders with pleasure as he topples over the edge right along with you.
“Fuck,” he gasps. You collapse, boneless, on top of him, and his arms come around you to hold you close, tracing gently up and down your back, leaving goosebumps in their wake.
“That’s one way to celebrate a mission well done,” you murmur, and he laughs.
“My favorite way,” he says, kissing the side of your head. “You know that. It’s been torture, without you.”
You kiss his cheek softly. “No more torture.”
“Only the sexy kind,” Adrian grins.
You roll your eyes. “Come on. Let’s clean up before dinner. No funny business in the shower. We don’t have time,” you say firmly.
“Of course not,” Adrian says innocently. He’s lying through his teeth. He knows it, and you do too. There’s absolutely no way he’ll be able to keep his hands off of you, especially when you get out of bed and start walking toward the bathroom with your hips swaying like that, glancing over your shoulder with a teasing look.
“You’re evil,” he says, scrambling after you. Your laughter echoes off the tiled bathroom wall.
An hour later, Adrian is almost fully dressed, in his jeans and socks, picking out a shirt. You’ve got half an hour before you’re due to meet Emilia and Chris for dinner.
“Not-Economos isn’t coming,” Adrian reports, reading a text message from Chris. “Emilia declared the mission over, and he dipped. He’s going back to Evergreen. Not that I blame him.”
“His name is Marcus,” you remind Adrian.
“I really don’t give a fuck,” Adrian says as he responds to Chris’s message. You just shake your head, giggling and digging through your bag for a fresh pair of jeans, clad only in your bra and underwear.
“Hey, Ade?” you ask, your tone curious. He looks up from his phone to see you holding up the dress.
The pretty white one, from your closet. That he’d shoved at the bottom of your bag. His heart picks up speed, and his hands suddenly feel clammy.
“Yeah?” he says, trying to play it cool.
“I know I didn’t pack this for myself,” you say, raising an eyebrow. “You planning to take me on a hot date?”
Adrian’s mouth goes dry, watching you hold the dress up against your body.
Am I actually doing this? he thinks, as he looks at you standing there, half-naked and beautiful and here and his. It was a split-second decision, shoving that dress at the bottom of your bag back in Evergreen. He could play it off now, say he wants to take you dancing, or to a nice dinner. But his eyes flick to your left hand. Your empty ring finger. He imagines a diamond sitting there, sparkling, as your hand clutches the fabric.
He clears his throat and decides.
“Maybe,” he says. “If…if you want.”
“Hmm,” you tease. “I don’t know, where are you taking me?”
Adrian swallows nervously.
“One of the chapels on the Strip,” he says. Hesitant. Hopeful.
You freeze, the floral fabric wrinkling as you clench it in your fists.
“Are you serious?” you ask. There’s something in your voice he hasn’t ever heard before. A little breathy wobble.
Adrian looks at you carefully, the way you’re looking at him with wide eyes. The surprise is written on your face, clear as day, but it’s hard to know what you’re thinking, and it makes him even more nervous. His heart skips, a quick rhythm he feels right at the back of his throat, but—it’s out in the universe now. He can’t take it back.
He doesn’t want to take it back.
“I’ve never been more serious,” he says quietly, even as his voice shakes, setting his phone aside and standing up to walk over to you. Your eyes are glassy as you look up at him, and his hands skate up your waist, your arms, your neck, until his hands cup your cheeks. “I love you. And I just spent—all those weeks alone, and now I know what it’s like. To live without you. And I never want to do it again.”
“You want to…marry me?” you whisper, like you can’t believe it.
“I do,” he says, and you smile, wide and bright, your cheeks smushing a little between his hands.
“Really? You’ve—I mean—we’ve never even talked about it—”
“I know,” he says quickly. “I know I’m springing this on you. I just—I was thinking about it the other night, when me and Peacemaker were out doing touristy shit, and I saw all the couples coming out of the chapels, being happy and in love, and—I wanted to do that. With you.”
“I want that too,” you say softly. “I want to marry you, Adrian.”
“Yeah?” he whispers. You nod, and he smiles, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and he laughs. “Really?”
“Really,” you say. “Let’s get married.”
“It doesn’t have to be here, or now,” Adrian says. “It can just be the two of us at the courthouse in Evergreen for all I care. Or—I am technically ordained. I did it online a couple years ago when I was bored. But I don’t know if I’m allowed to marry myself? I mean, not marry myself, but marry myself, you know—”
“No,” you interrupt. “Now. Today. Well—not today. Tomorrow. We need to call John and Ads, and give them time to fly down, so they can be here. And—we need to get rings, and I love you, baby, but you are not wearing the Vigilante suit at the altar—”
“Why not? It’s the nicest outfit I own!”
“You literally killed someone last night. It’s covered in blood.”
“Oh. Right,” he says. “I guess I can probably rent a suit or something, right? Maybe a teal bow tie?” His question is hopeful. You giggle.
“I wouldn’t expect any other color.”
“We’re really doing this?” Adrian asks, because he needs to make sure. That this moment is happening, that this is real.
“Ask me,” you say. “Say the words.”
Adrian’s smile widens. “Will you marry m—”
You cut him off with a kiss, dropping the white dress to the floor so you can wrap your arms around his neck and hitch yourself higher. He does what you’re wordlessly asking, lifting you in his arms, and your legs wrap around his waist as your lips move against his. You’re saying something between kisses, in tiny, quiet gasps.
“Yes,” you say, and Adrian’s heart sings. “Yes, yes, yes—”
Then you’re reaching down, pulling at his belt, unzipping his pants, shoving them down to his ankles. He grinds against you, he can’t help it, walking you back against the wall, and you whine.
“Please,” you say. “God, please—”
Adrian shoves your underwear aside and pushes into you, a slick, smooth slide, and he fucks you right there against the wall in frenzied thrusts that knock his glasses askew. You pull his mouth to yours and kiss him, let him swallow every sound you make, every word of praise you breathe.
“So good to me,” you say. “I love you so much.”
“I love you,” he gasps into your mouth. “God, I fucking love you.”
Your head falls back against the wall when you come, fluttering around his cock, and he spills into you almost immediately after, hot pleasure rushing through him.
Fifteen minutes later, you’re cleaning yourselves up, almost certainly going to be late for dinner, but you can’t bring yourselves to care. You keep stopping, pausing for one more kiss, and it takes longer than usual for you to pull your clothes on and make yourself presentable.
“Are you sure?” Adrian says, checking in one last time before you go. “I mean it. We don’t have to do this now. We can wait. Have a big, fancy ceremony, and get you a nice expensive sparkly dress, and a cake with like, ten layers—I can make Chris and Economos wear bowties, and maybe Eagly could be our ringbearer—”
“I don’t need any of that,” you say softly. “I just need you. And our friends. But I don’t care about all the rest. I just want to be with you, for the rest of my life.”
On the walk to the restaurant, you call Ads. Adrian can hear her screeching in your ear even from several feet away, and he laughs.
“You’ll be here, right?” you ask. “You and John. I need a maid of honor. Yes, you. Oh, Ads, don’t cry—”
Meanwhile, Adrian calls Economos.
“Hey, Adrian,” he answers. “What’s up? I don’t have time for an animal quiz today, I gotta—”
“Ads is gonna book you a flight to Vegas,” Adrian interrupts.
“I—what?”
“We’re getting married,” Adrian says, and Economos makes a choking noise.
“What?”
“I mean, we’re not getting married. I’m not marrying you,” Adrian clarifies. “Obviously. I’m marrying my girlfriend. My fiancee. Who I love very much. Everyone else is coming, so you have to be there too.”
“Jesus Christ,” Economos says. “I knew what you meant, dude. But holy shit, you’re not kidding? Okay. Um. Fuck. I guess I’ll drop everything in my entire life and hop on a last-minute flight to Vegas because I have nothing better to do—”
“You don’t have anything better to do,” Adrian says, confused. “You don’t have a life.”
“Fuck you,” Economos says, but he’s laughing. “Goddamnit. I guess I have to go pack a bag. Congratulations.”
“Thanks,” Adrian says brightly. “See you tomorrow!”
When you sit down at the dinner table, Adrian doesn’t even give Harcourt time to criticize you both for being ten minutes late.
“We’re staying an extra day,” Adrian declares, sliding out your chair for you and then plopping down into his own with a huge smile.
“Five days ago, you were ready to quit your job because you wanted to not be here so badly,” Chris says. “What gives?”
“I didn’t miss home, I missed her,” Adrian says simply. “And we’re staying for a reason. Actually, you need to stay too, so you can be here. You were included in the ‘we.’ Ads and Economos are coming down, we just talked to them on the walk over here.”
“Ads and John are coming? To Vegas?” Emilia clarifies, brows furrowed.
“For what?” Chris asks, similarly bewildered. “The mission is done. I mean, we can have a bomb ass 11th Street Kids reunion and get plastered at the casino. You don’t need to ask me twice. But we can also get plastered on the roof of Emilia’s apartment building for a lot cheaper.”
You reach for Adrian’s hand on top of the table, a tiny smile on your face. He rubs his thumb over the empty spot on your ring finger. Emilia watches the movement with sharp eyes.
“Holy shit,” she says. “You’re not.”
You smile. “We are.”
“You’re what?” Chris says, looking around the table at each of you in turn.
“Oh my god,” Emlia says, clasping a hand over her mouth. “Holy shit. Holy shit.”
“What are you holy shitting about!” Chris cries.
“They’re getting married!”
Chris’s eyes go wide, and he looks to Adrian for confirmation, but he’s too busy staring at you, all love-struck and smiley.
“Dude! Why didn’t you fucking tell me! I’m your BFF!”
“It was a spur of the moment thing!” Adrian says.
“What the fuck!” Chris sputters. “Well—fine. I’m gonna be your best man, though, right?”
“Obviously,” Adrian says.
“And I asked Ads to be my maid of honor. They’ll be here tomorrow afternoon,” you add, smiling.
Emilia shakes her head. “Holy shit. Oh my god. This is crazy. I mean, it’s not crazy. I know you guys love each other. Well. It’s a little bit crazy, but Adrian is a little bit crazy, so really, what am I expecting here?”
“Aw man, Eagly’s gonna miss it,” Chris sighs. “He could have been your ringbearer or something.”
“That’s what I said!” Adrian exclaims.
“Shut the fuck up, Chris,” Emilia sighs, and you just laugh.
“Isn’t it bad luck to spend the night together before the wedding?” Emilia teases at the end of the night. You giggle, but Adrian frowns.
“That’s a tradition rooted in misogyny,” Adrian says matter-of-factly. “And respectfully, I think I’ve spent enough nights sleeping alone recently.”
“Fair enough,” Chris notes.
“Too many wedding traditions are about owning women,” Adrian continues. “Like someone walking the bride down the aisle to ‘give her away.’ She’s not an object!”
“Thank you for respecting my autonomy, honey.” He beams at you. “I still think we should do something the old-fashioned way,” you say.
“Well, you’re gonna wear a white dress,” Adrian says. “Which is supposed to symbolize purity or some bullshit like that. Obviously I don’t care about that, I mean, literally this morning we were—”
Emilia slaps him on the back of the head before he can finish his sentence, and you laugh.
“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?” you suggest. “No misogyny or bullshit there. That’s just for luck, I think.”
He tilts his head thoughtfully. “Does teal count as blue? Or green? I want a teal bowtie.”
“I think the bride is supposed to have all four things,” Emilia says.
“More misogyny,” Adrian says. “Why does she need to carry the weight of superstition on her shoulders? This is a partnership. We shoulder all burdens equally.”
Chris rolls his eyes. “Yes, Adrian, teal is blue.”
“Perfect! And you already have a white dress, babe. What year did you buy it?”
“Why?”
“We need to know if it’s old or not.”
“I think the fact that it was buried at the back of the closet qualifies it in the ‘old’ category.” You giggle at Adrian’s thoughtful concentration. When his mind is set to something, he takes it incredibly seriously.
“I’ve got something you can borrow,” Chris tells Adrian.
“What is it?” Adrian asks excitedly.
“It’s a surprise.”
“I love surprises!” Adrian says excitedly.
“I know,” Chris says. “It’s almost like—get this—I’m going to be your best man for a reason.”
“So if you’re going to shoulder all burdens equally,” Emilia says dramatically, looking at you with a smirk, “that means we get to go shopping tonight for ‘something new.’ What are you thinking? Accessories? Something for your hair, or a bracelet?”
“I’ve got an idea,” you smile, and Adrian immediately opens his mouth to ask what it is, but you interrupt. “It’s a surprise.”
“Two surprises in one day,” Adrian says. “And I’m getting married? Tomorrow is going to be the best fucking day ever.”
“I’ll go with you,” Emilia says. “We can go buy whatever you’re thinking, and then we can meet Chris and Adrian at one of the casinos for one last drink before we turn in for the night.”
“Wait,” Adrian pouts. “Without me?”
“How is it going to be a surprise if you come with me?” you ask.
Adrian looks torn between wanting to cling to your hand for the rest of the night and getting his surprise tomorrow. He hasn’t let you out of his sight since the day he drove fifteen hours straight to get home to you after five weeks of being apart. You’ve been within arms’ reach for almost an entire week, and the idea of you watching you walk away from him, even for just a few hours, makes his chest feel tight with panic. You can see it in his eyes, and you cup his cheek in one hand and kiss him softly.
“I’ll be with Em. You’ll be with Chris. I am not leaving Vegas, you are not leaving Vegas. No more missions. We’re together. I’m not leaving you.”
Adrian takes a shaky breath.
“I know,” he says quietly. “Just…be quick?”
“Two hours,” you promise, and he nods.
“Okay,” he says. “Here.” He opens his wallet and pulls out a wad of cash.
“What—”
“To buy your something new,” he says, shoving the money into your hands.
“You’re ridiculous,” you say, but you take the money, because he’ll argue with you if you don’t. “I’ll see you in a couple hours.” You pull out your phone and set a two-hour timer, holding it up for him to see, and watch a little bit more tension drain out of him.
“I love you,” he says.
“I love you too,” you say, and you kiss him again. “And when I get back, we’ll go pick out our rings, okay?”
“Ooh! Can I bring my Vigilante gloves with me? Maybe they can, like, embroider the left one—”
“Embroider your glove?”
“With some silver thread or something,” he nods. “The people need to know that Vigilante is off the market. Even the criminals should know that I’m taken, babe.”
Chris rolls his eyes. You just kiss your fiance and smile.
The next morning feels weirdly normal. Adrian wakes up with you curled around him, and he feels so fucking grateful for it, because the memory of an empty bed is still fresh in his mind. You’re still sleeping. He closes his eyes and pulls you closer.
But then you’re kissing him, softly, and he smiles as he realizes you’re awake after all.
“Good morning,” you say, your voice all raspy from sleep. He pulls you on top of him. He’s been doing that all week, using you like a blanket, your weight pressing him down into the mattress, comforting and secure.
Adrian opens his eyes when you laugh. You’re a little blurry. He hasn’t put his glasses on yet. You can tell he’s squinting, and you reach over to the bedside table, then slide them on his face for him. He steals another kiss after you do, then checks his phone.
“Can you believe we’re getting married in seven hours, twenty-nine minutes, and forty-one seconds?” he asks, grinning.
“What?” you ask, bewildered that he’s keeping track down to the second, but he misunderstands your confusion.
“You did agree to marry me yesterday, didn’t you?” he says, a little uncertain. “I made an appointment on my phone last night. Unless—you’re not sure? We don’t have to—”
“No, that’s not what I meant,” you interrupt quickly, putting a few fingers over his mouth to stop him talking. He can’t help himself. He kisses your hand, and you smile. “I just—how do you know down to the second?”
“It’s kinda one of the greatest, most important things that’s ever going to happen to me,” he says, trying and failing to sound casual and chill about it when in fact he’s ready to vibrate out of his skin and take you right with him, levitating from the sheer power of his excitement and joy right down the street and through the doors of the chapel.
“You’re such a sap,” you say, but your eyes are shining, and the way you’re smiling at him makes his heart flutter in his chest.
“I’m allowed to be sappy. We’re getting married today,” he says, beaming.
“We’re getting married today,” you repeat, beaming back, just as bright. “Shall we?”
Adrian expects the day to drag, but he’s too busy to watch the clock. The two of you go with Chris and Emilia to pick up Ads and Economos from the airport, and for the first time in months, all of the 11th Street Kids are in one place at the same time.
When you go grab lunch, you stop at a cheap fast-food joint with outdoor picnic tables where you can sit for a while and chat. But it’s not a quick bite. You spend hours there, catching up over too-salty fries, baking in the hot sun, laughing so loud you’re drawing attention to yourselves. Adrian looks around the table and feels so fucking happy he thinks he might explode. All of his favorite people in the whole world are here with him right now, and he gets to marry you today.
Between the trip to the airport and lunch, five hours have passed, and before Adrian knows it, the girls are whisking you off to get you dressed and ready for the evening.
“I’ll see you later,” you say as Ads drags you away into your motel room. Adrian watches you go and feels the familiar pang in his chest that comes with being apart from you, but the ache is soothed with the knowledge that the next time he sees you, you’ll be walking down the street together to the chapel.
He ends up in Chris and Emilia’s motel room with Chris and John, getting ready himself, and when he looks at the clock and realizes there’s only two hours before your appointment time, he’s surprised.
He’s been waiting for the panic to set in all day. That’s what happens in the movies. People get nervous before they get married. It’s a big commitment, it’s a big life decision. But it doesn’t feel like that, not for him.
Adrian decided a long, long time ago that you were it for him. Today, you’re just signing a piece of paper to make it official. He’ll tell you in front of his friends exactly how much you mean to him. But he’s done that dozens of times before. He tells you he loves you constantly. And he knows that you love him, too.
“I promised you something borrowed,” Chris says. He holds out a box for Adrian. “John stopped at the house to pick these up for me before he came down here.”
Adrian cracks open the box, and there’s a pair of silver cufflinks in the shape of Chris’s signature dove of peace.
“Thank you,” Adrian says, and before he can even get properly all choked up about it, Chris is rolling his eyes.
“Don’t be a pussy about it. Just put them on.”
When you text him that you’re ready about an hour later, Adrian nearly trips over himself with eagerness. Chris and John look at him, bewildered, when he rushes out of the motel room and down just a few doors to his own room where you’ve been getting dressed. They watch him knock furiously with fond exasperation.
“He’s so…” John starts.
“Whipped?” Chris suggests.
“Sure, let’s go with that. Just don’t let him hear you say it. He would probably misread a social cue and make it about like, BDSM or something.”
When you open the door, Adrian stares. Ads and Emilia have helped tame your hair into a stunning style, the floral white dress flatters your form absolutely perfectly, and—
“I am so fucking in love with you,” he says. “Fuck. How are you so pretty—”
He reaches for your face to kiss you, but Emilia slaps his hands away.
“You’re gonna fuck up her makeup.”
“Ask me if I give a shit,” Adrian retorts, and he kisses you anyway while you laugh at him.
He does, in fact, smudge your lipstick a little. Once Adrian finally lets you go, Ads rolls her eyes and carefully fixes it as best she can.
As she does, Adrian’s eyes latch onto the sparkling silver necklace at your throat. He reaches for it, picks the charm up between his thumb and forefinger. A tiny letter A. When he swallows, his throat feels tight.
“When did you—”
“My something new,” you say, smiling softly at him as Ads steps back, satisfied with her work.
“Oh,” he says, his own goofy smile growing on his face. “A for—”
“Adrian, yes,” you giggle. “I thought about a V, maybe, for Vigilante, but—”
“It’s perfect,” Adrian interrupts, his voice cracking a bit. “You’re perfect. I’m so happy that I get to marry you, baby.” He goes to kiss you again, and Ads grabs him by the back of the collar.
“I just fixed her makeup, Adrian—”
“Save the sappy speeches,” Chris says from the doorway. “We don’t want to be late.”
Adrian snaps to attention. “No. We should be early, actually. Maybe they’ll get us in quicker—”
“He’s gonna fucking run down the aisle,” John laughs.
Adrian doesn’t run down the aisle. If you were at the end of it, waiting for him, he absolutely would have. But instead, you walk down the aisle together, hands laced tightly, both of you beaming and giggling like idiots the whole way to the altar.
“You’d never guess they were fucking assassins,” John mutters to Emilia, who just smiles and shakes her head.
“Even people surrounded by death all the time deserve a little happiness,” she murmurs.
And you are. The both of you. Happier than you’ve ever been, because you love each other. Adrian has known for ages now that he was going to love you forever, but now—there’s something special about it. Setting it in stone, making it official. Being able to call you his wife instead of his girlfriend, being able to look at the wedding ring he’s going to place on your finger
He’s so caught up in it all—his imaginings of that future—that before he knows it, the officiant is done with his cookie-cutter speech, and offering the floor to the both of you to share your vows, gesturing for you to speak.
You offer Adrian a nervous half-smile and he squeezes your hands. The light in his eyes washes all of your worry away.
“The day I met you, I didn’t even see your face,” you begin. “All I knew was the man behind the mask. I knew you were funny, and brave, and righteous, and a little bit of an idiot, and part of me knew, from that very first week, that I wanted you to be my idiot. Forever. I trusted you to have my back in the field for years, and I have trusted you with my heart for almost as long, and you have done nothing but pour love and laughter into my life. I am so grateful for you, Adrian, and I love you. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life, and I will show you that love every day. No matter how far away we are.”
“When I was growing up, I never thought I’d love anyone like this,” Adrian says, a little choked up. “And now that I do, it’s the most special thing, and Chris might be my best friend, but you are my best best friend, in the whole wide world, and you are so funny and badass and hot and every time I look at you I just feel so—lucky, and every day that I wake up and I get to love you is the best day of my life, and I never want to be without you.” He takes a deep breath after his rambling confession.
The officiant gestures for John and Emilia to step forward. They each hand you something—the rings that you and Adrian had picked out the night prior. Simple, silver bands.
Adrian had wanted to get you something flashier, but you’d reminded him that you were both assassins for a living and you often worked with your hands. A lot of the time, the ring would be living on the new chain around your neck, hiding beneath your shirt right beside the tiny silver letter A. A big diamond would get caught on your clothes and in your hair.
You take the rings now from your friends and slide them onto each other’s left hands. Then your hands come up to cup Adrian’s face, framing his bright, boyish smile that widens even further when he feels the cool metal of your wedding band pressing against his cheeks.
You turn to the officiant. “Can I kiss him now? While you do the boring part?”
The man shrugs. “Be my guest.”
Somewhere in the background, you register the words as the officiant pronounces you husband and wife. Hear the sniffles that Ads and John try to hide, the clapping from Emilia, the wolf whistle from Chris.
You’re too busy kissing your husband to care about any of it.
Several hours later, tipsy and tired, you and Adrian stumble toward your motel room, giggling between kisses. It takes him three tries to get the electronic lock to work because he’s so distracted by your lips on his neck, sending bolts of heat shooting down his spine. He hums and tilts his head to give you better access as the door finally opens.
You start to step inside, but he grabs you by the wrist and yanks you into his chest.
“No,” he says. “I’m supposed to—to do a thing. Carry you.”
“Bridal style?”
“Yeah,” he says. “You’re a bride. My bride. I gotta do my duty. I will not fail at husbanding within the first six hours.”
“I think that’s for when we get home,” you laugh. “And I don’t think husbanding is a verb, baby.”
“Humor me,” he says, picking you up anyway, sending you into another fit of giggles. He steps over the threshold with a goofy smile and then sets you down on the bed and shuts the door behind him. “Okay. All done.”
“Thank you, my love,” you say dramatically.
“You’re welcome, Mrs. Chase,” he teases, leaning over you on the mattress, and then he makes a face. “Ew. Sorry. I wanted that to be sexy, it is not sexy. I’m just thinking about my fucking mom now. Gross.”
“You’re gonna have to tell her,” you point out.
“Not tonight, I’m not,” he says. “Tonight, I am going to make love to my wife, and tomorrow we are going to go home and stay home for several weeks and not talk to anybody except each other, because the rest of the world got to have you for five fucking weeks straight and it’s my turn to be alone with my wife.”
He’s been calling you that all night. Every bartender, every stranger on the street, even to Chris and Emilia and John and Ads, like they don’t know who you are already. The words feel magical on his tongue. He’s not sure he’ll ever get sick of them.
“You’re all mine,” you say. “No missions. No interruptions. Just us.”
You reach up for his bowtie and pull it loose, dropping it on the floor, then push his unbuttoned, already-disheveled suit jacket off his shoulders. His cheeks are flushed, his hair is a mess, his mouth hanging open, reaching forward for your lips, but your duck your head to the side, kissing at his neck instead. He groans.
“You’re so handsome,” you say, nibbling at his jaw as you unbutton his shirt. “How are you so handsome? I’m so lucky.”
“You’re so lucky?” he says incredulously, hands trailing up your thighs. “I’m so lucky. The luckiest guy on the fucking planet. With the most badass, beautiful wife ever. I love you so much.”
“Are you gonna take my clothes off or what? I feel like I’m doing all the work here.”
“I get to see you naked all the time. I only get to fuck my wife in her wedding dress once,” he says. He’s not even smug about it. He’s just—earnest, excited. He just wants you. And you want him just as bad.
He’s just a little bit drunk, maybe, he thinks to himself, the world all hazy and warm. He can’t stop smiling, giggling, and neither can you, the both of you feeding on each other’s joy, amplifying it back in an echo chamber that makes his chest feel tight, like he can’t physically hold in all the love he has for you.
“Do whatever you want with me,” you groan. “Just fucking touch me already.”
Adrian scrambles for your underwear, tugging it down your legs in what he wanted to be a swift movement, but ends up being clumsy. Still, as he dips down to eagerly lick at your slick pussy, you whimper—no matter how clumsy he might be right now, he knows you, knows your body, like the back of his own hand, and it takes him no time at all to work you up to your peak, until your thighs are trembling around his head and his glasses are fogging up.
When you come, tiny gasps of pleasure spill from the back of your throat, and Adrian feels a strange, possessive feeling take over him as he realizes that he is the only one who will ever get to hear you make these noises. Who will ever make you feel this way. You’re his, now, forever, and no one else can ever take you away from him.
“I just can’t believe I get to keep you,” he murmurs, kissing up your body—your belly, your breasts, your neck, until he finally reaches your mouth, delving his tongue inside to meet yours. It’s sloppy. It’s greedy. It’s perfect.
You unbuckle his belt to shove his pants down his thighs, and Adrian groans when his cock springs free and you wrap your hand around him, pumping. He’s already rock hard, leaking precum everywhere, and if he doesn’t fuck you in the next ten seconds, this will be over before it even starts.
He places his hands on your upper thighs, pushing the skirt of your dress up out of the way, and spreads your legs so he has room to settle between them. You lay back on the mattress, watching him, pupils blown so wide he wouldn’t even know what they looked like if he hadn’t spent hours of time staring at your face, admiring every fleck of color in them.
Adrian gives you no warning when he pushes into you, and your eyes flutter shut, thighs tightening around his waist. He thrusts into you with practiced movements, relishing in the fact that he knows your body so well. Knows the exact angle that will hit that sweet sensitive spot inside you, knows exactly how fast and hard you like it. Knows exactly when you’re moments away from your second orgasm, because you start clenching around his cock in that familiar way, tight and warm and perfect.
This time, when you come, Adrian is seconds behind you, his thrusts losing rhythm as he falls over the edge and spills into you. He drops to his elbows until he’s covering you with his whole body, his face hovering right above yours, breaths mingling.
“I love you,” you say, reaching for his left hand. He gives it to you, beaming as you kiss the cool metal of his wedding band. He returns the favor, ducking his head down to kiss the pendant of your new necklace.
“I love you too,” he says. “So fucking much.”
Tomorrow, you’ll head back home with your friends. Next week, you’ll be back at work, doing what you both do best—maiming and killing and whatever needs to be done for the good of your missions. But right now, there’s this. There’s the two of you, joined together, married. And with you, Adrian knows he’s ready to tackle whatever comes along next.
Sometimes She Cries - Chapter 27 (Adrian x Fem! Reader)
Chapter 27 Passenger Princess
Adrian brings you along on a Vigilante mission to cross some items of his list...
Chapter 1 - Chapter 28 | all chapters | playlist
Multi-chapter fic reposted from my AO3 (completed at 40/40 chapters) word count: 273k
a/n: how to tag this one...you have sex with Vigilante while on a mission killing criminals.
tags: smut, mission sex (not missionary tho) violence, references to drugs, Adrian being Adrian, you're both freaky af.
Adrian got his Vigilante gear out of the trunk and a duffel bag tossing it onto the back seat, he began to get changed into his suit behind a dumpster of the Evergreen bowling alley.
"Ready to be my passenger princess tonight?" He asked cheerfully, tossing you his bowling shirt which you caught and folded up for him.
"More than ready!" You grinned, catching his pants.
"Excellent, let's do this my radiant babydoll!" Adrian was kitted out, but he hadn't put his helmet on yet. "I'll explain our mission on the way in the Vigilante Mobile." He said, opening the door for you.
Getting into the Vigilante Mobile you felt an air of anticipation wash over the two of you as well as the strong fragrance of bubble gum air freshener.
"I've been following this new crime cartel that has tried to move into Evergreen from the last one I busted up. Their warehouse is an obvious plant right by the docks pretending to some company that makes those funny fake dancing cactuses or some shit. But really they are shipping cocaine inside them. So I've got enough C-4 in that bag on the back seat to replace it that white powder for their next score and blow them the fuck up!" Adrian went through his plan with you giddily, driving towards the docks.
"Great! How will I help?" You asked.
"Hm well let's do some stuff off the list first, these guys are pretty unprepared because they are expanding from Gotham and sending their D-squad to test the waters here, they really underestimate Evergreen so I think we can cross off a lot. But then I do have a surprise for you to join in on the mission properly." Adrian explained and you blushed remembering the Vigilante list in his diary.
"O-okay sounds good." You replied a bit anxiously, the list sounded great in theory but some of it was quite dangerous. "I'm excited Adrian but..."
"I'll keep you safe, just make sure to listen to what Vigilante says all right my delightful dewdrop?" Adrian reassure you with a gentle squeeze of your thigh. "Don't worry, I'm in control." The confident inflection he spoke with made you shiver.
"Hey can you grab me the binoculars from the glove box my foxy lady?" Adrian asked you sweetly.
Rummaging around past the mixtape CD wallet of kickass tunez, yo-yos and crossword puzzle books, you found the binoculars at the very back.
"Every stakeout needs music!" He pressed play and Ke$ha's JOYRIDE began to blast from the stereo and started dancing to it.
I'm just looking for a joyride, joyride
I'm just looking for a good time tonight
Baby, I want you to rev my engine 'til you make it purr
Your brows raised at his choice of music, the first item on Vigilante's list was for you to ride him cowgirl style while he did reconnaissance.
But this was also Adrian and he seemed to be genuinely rocking out to Ke$ha right now oblivious to the actual lyrics and their meaning.
Keep it kinky, but I come first
Beep-beep, bitch, I'm outside
Get in, loser, for the joyride
"Here you go Vigilante." You handed him the binoculars and purposely swung your legs onto his lap when you turned.
"Thanks!" Adrian grabbed the binoculars, his vigilante helmet still sitting on the dashboard. You frowned but got your own pair out to take a look at the warehouse.
"Does this count as reconnaissance?" You asked him pointedly.
Making every motherfucker turn
Fell from Heaven, no, it didn't hurt...
Joyride! Get in, loser, for the joyride...
"Huh? Yeah it does why...oh." Adrian realised with a gulp, dropping the binoculars to face you. "Only if you wanted to uh do that first thing on the list." He said sheepishly.
"Oh I want to." You replied with a sultry wink.
Suddenly you grabbed the handle of Adrian's chair moving it right back making him exhale sharply when you straddled him. His glasses were askew and before he could, you readjusted them back up his nose.
Keep your eyes on the road!
A label whore, but I'm bored of wearing clothes...
"What do you see baby?" You asked him, unbuckling his seatbelt and deftly unclipping the utility belt of the Vigilante suit to unzip his fly.
You want kids? Well, I am Mother!
"I um...they are doing a deal..." Adrian began his voice hitched a couple octaves tighter as you began to stroke his shaft with a hand.
"O-of the...uh drug...variety..." His voice cracked like popcorn as you increased the tempo, flicking your wrist up and down. The sound of him getting slicker echoed obscenely in the car as Adrian bucked his hips into your fist.
Don't, don't, don't, don't even try to gi-give me shit!
I've earned the right to b-be like this...
"W-which is ahh illegal!" He added sweetly moaning when you pumped nice and slowly, swiping he tip coated in precum with your thumb.
"You going to punish them for that baby?" You asked Adrian with a sultry whisper against his ear. His cock twitched in your palm.
Fishing around in the utility belt you knew exactly where the hidden condom compartment was and got one out.
"Y-yeah baby...I'm going to punish them." Adrian nodded, intense green eyes locked with yours as you tore open the wrapper with your teeth.
"Gonna punish them so hard..." Adrian watched down at how your fingers couldn't quite wrap all the way around his thick cock with a hooded desire spread across his face.
Don't even, don't give me shit...
I'm a bi-, I'm a bitch!
Don't even, don't give me shit..
He hissed in frustration with a frown when your hand suddenly left his dick.
"You'll need your helmet then." You winked and got his Vigilante mask off the dashboard and handed it to him.
"Thanks my sugar plum." Adrian kissed you passionately before putting the helmet on and you could tell the flip was switched as the visor went down. It was an overall change in his posture, becoming more confident, alert and direct.
"You've got to remember to wear protection Vigilante!" You added with a grin, helping put the condom on rolling it down his girth. Then you circled a finger teasingly at his chest.
Joy-joy-joy..Joy-joy-joy...
Get in, loser, for the joyride!
"Well I'm all geared up aren't you going to ride me?" Vigilante said, gloved hands settling in a tight grip at your waist and motioning down to his throbbing erection.
"Isn't having car sex illegal Vigilante?" You teased him further, rolling your hips against his shaft.
"Only if you leave witnesses behind, then it becomes indecent exposure. But all those Soprano wannabe drug dealer fuckers out on the dock are going to be dead soon." Vigilante informed you, lifting you up slightly by the waist making you gasp.
"Come on, you're my ride or die and I'm yours..." He practically purred against your chest, pawing at your thighs to pull down your stockings and panties in one swooping motion.
"Now, ride me." Vigilante ordered, drawing your hips back down, hovering just above the tip.
"Or I die?" You asked cocking a brow.
"Or I'll fucking die from blue balls." Vigilante said dramatically leaning back with a huff and you chuckled.
You happily complied sinking yourself down onto his cock with a moan, Vigilante's grip at your hips tightened and he shuddered when you took all of him inside. "Good girl..." He cooed, threading a gloved hand through your hair pulling it so you leant back.
"Oh fuck yes, that's it...you're so damn tight for me baby." Vigilante sat back to watch you work for a minute before turning his attention elsewhere.
Picking up his binoculars he kept making notes of the action outside despite the action he was getting from you in the Vigilante Mobile.
That made you pout at him but it also just spurred you on to make Vigilante have to pay attention.
"Ahh oh my god...you're so fucking big Vigilante!" You cried out nice and loud for him as you found the right rhythm and took your pleasure on top thrusting your hips.
The windows of the Sebring fogged up from your exertions along with Vigilantes visor that he wiped the condensation off with the back of his glove.
"God you fill me up so good Vig..." You moaned for him, raking your hands up and down his chest.
Vigilante grunted at that in pleasure, hands wavering around the binoculars. His hips twitched and he held firm, but one finger was tapping away on your thigh.
"I love your cock Vigilante!" You kept grinding up and down on him, moaning as his cock filled you each time. "I love it so much!"
"Ahh you take down all the bad guys! It makes me so fucking wet when you punish them!" You chorused out, sitting back with your hands planted against his chest to keep your balance.
Following his eye line through the visor, he was no longer running surveillance but instead was locked onto the rhythm you were putting him through. Green eyes watching how he slipped in and out of you and the sweet slick hot mess you were both making.
"Y-you're my hero Vigilante!" You used the line that you knew drove him absolutely wild.
"Damn it." Vigilante was struggling to keep it together and when you bounced on top of him moaning that you were his hero, he dropped the binoculars with a thud.
Victory was yours.
"Yeah you love it, I know you can't get enough of this cock babygirl." Vigilante agreed with a throaty groan, wrapping his hands around your hips he held you tightly in place.
"Don't worry, I'll fucking give to you. Every inch." He took over control, beginning to fuck up into you completely bottoming out. The slapping thud of him balls deep inside you echoed out in Sebring.
"Your one and only hero Vigilante is going to absolutely rail that amazing tight pussy of yours baby!" Vigilante panted, his visor fogging right back up again as he furiously snapped his hips with a punishing pace that drove you crazy.
"Vig! Oh fuck Vigilante!" Wrapping your arms around his neck to try and hold on as you were brought up and down mercilessly onto his cock.
The car seat was hot and sticky now leather squelching against his suit, your hand wiped the dew away from your lovers visor and then sprung out to grip the fogged up window as he rammed into you desperately.
"Your pussy should be illegal for being that tight...I'm gonna fucking punish it with my cock!" Vigilante rasped into your ear speeding up.
"Punish me baby!" You cried out, holding the Sebrings grab handle to keep yourself upright you began to give back as good as you were getting, making Vigilante moan.
"You fucking take it so good my cowgirl, you ride my cock like a damn rodeo!" Vigilante panted with a wild laugh, spanking your ass.
"Giddy up cowboy!" You giggled shakily dipping your head back and playfully slapping his chest.
Vigilante leant forward and folded you right up against the steering wheel and it let out a long droning beep when your back pressed into it and you froze.
"Shit!" You said clapping your hands over your mouth, quickly recoiling from the wheel.
"They definitely heard that..." Turning around you saw three thugs in the distance pointing right at the Vigilante Mobile and spotting you two inside.
"You're the Bonnie to my Clyde only we're the good guys and way hotter..." Vigilante said, still thrusting and not giving a single fuck about the mobsters closing in on the Sebring.
Instead he only pulled his dick out to swivel you around so you were a reverse cowgirl for him now.
Then Vigilante got out a pair of earplugs from his utility belt and put them delicately into your ears.
"You're my Calamity Jane." Not worrying even when the thugs raised their guns he whipped out his Glock 17 and put it into your hands, closing his own over the top.
Vigilante rolled down the window, dragging your hands outside of it to aim and shoot at the targets.
"Squeeze the fucking trigger baby just like you're squeezing down on me right now with that tight pussy of yours...fuck." Vigilante ordered you with a sharp grunt, stilling his hips for a moment.
You pulled the trigger, the kickback of the gun a sweet addition to the relentless pace Vigilante thrusted inside of you as reward, he moaned when the bullet found purchase right between the gangsters eyes, collapsing into a pool of crimson.
"Good job baby!" Vigilante cooed. "Annie get your gun!" He laughed manically as the body hit the ground and you clamped down around him.
"Y-you like killing criminals baby? Feels good doesn't it?" Vigilante whispered. "I felt you tighten when you saw that fucker die..." His fingers found your clit and you nodded with with a shaky groan.
"F-feels good baby..." You admitted.
Moving your aim slightly to the left you timed it and pulled the trigger again this time on your own, striking another thug in the jugular.
"Holy fuck! You're such a good shot baby!" Vigilante groaned loudly. "So fucking god damn hot my sexy black widow!" He punctuated every world with a frantic pump of his hips.
To the right you took out the last offender smoking him in the chest just before he got the chance to try and shoot up the Vigilante Mobile.
"Ahh fuck you're my Cat Ballou dream girl! Ahh shit you're so tight!" Vigilante cried out sounding very close, his hands reaching for his helmet.
He threw it off and you saw Adrian's handsome face contoured in pure ecstasy. His red sweaty brow was furrowed in total concentration, lust ridden green eyes finding yours.
"Fuck! I'm going to cum..." Adrian admitted, biting down hard on his bottom lip.
"You're so damn fucking sexy killing all those drug cartel motherfuckers like that baby!" His gloved hand went down to your clit desperately but you gripped his wrist.
"Yeah I fucking killed those two-bit thugs while Vigilante was inside me..." You felt so powerful.
Bringing his hands up to your tits instead you had him clinging on for dear life as you rocked his entire world. The leather seats of the Sebring squeaked underneath the sweat dripping off both of you.
"I'm going to cum too, all over your dick." You told him, taking back control you rode him out like a damn mechanical bull.
"Ahh fuck yes cum on my dick!" Adrian practically sobbed into your back with pleasure. "Please cum all over it!" He begged.
"I-I'm..." He whimpered shooting his load as you saw stars still holding the gun in your hands while you railed him.
"M-me too..." You sighed dreamily, stopping your hips and steadying yourself against him.
"Damn..." You both said and laughed into a passionate kiss that only broke when you needed to come up for air again.
"Well that's the first item off the list!" Adrian said happily, cleaning himself up with a Fennel Fields wet wipe from the centre console. Handing you one to freshen up, you also fixed up your hair and checked yourself over in your compact.
"That was fucking awesome my gorgeous sunflower!" Adrian exclaimed, he was so exited that he hadn't even bothered to get out his glasses.
"Let's fuck up these drug dealers!" Instead he just popped the Vigilante helmet back on ready to rock and roll.
The Evergreen docks were creepy at night, the rickety wooden floorboards of the pier holding shadows of crates and shipping containers looming overhead. But you didn't feel fear walking through them with Vigilante by your side, who had both guns drawn.
"There's the warehouse." Vigilante nodded to one of the undisclosed buildings that had a cute cactus mascot on it.
"Let's fuck shit up!" He exclaimed with a fist pump, he had the duffle bag filled with C-4 at the ready slung over his back.
You were armed with a pistol just in case but for the second item on the list you followed behind Vigilante a few paces. Entering the warehouse it was a large processing centre of cardboard boxes and conveyor belts. Those little dancing cactus things were everywhere.
"Hey you nose candy huffing fuckwits quit snake dusting eachother and get out here to face your new worst nightmare, Vigilante!" Vigilante announced himself with a loud battle cry.
"What's snake dusting?" You asked quizzically.
"It's when someone snorts cocaine off a penis my innocent sweetie pie." Vigilante informed you.
"What are all of you stupid motherfuckers deaf from bell-ringing that crack rock?!" Vigilante demanded waving his gun around, he started kicking boxes across the room and smashed the conveyor belt with a nearby tire iron.
Wow Adrian sure did know a lot of drug slang, you realised somewhat impressed.
Shooting a welcome bullet into one of the dancing cactuses, sure enough a bust of cocaine spouted out and you watched on as it sadly contort around with half it's plushie plant brains before it's wiring died.
"You're a dead man!" You both heard a gruff voice shout as the door was busted open.
"Huh? What's that?" Vigilante cupped a hand condescendingly to his ear.
"You should really read palms, cause you're totally right I see a dead man in my future right now!" He blasted the mobster away with two well aimed shots to the chest and forehead.
"Oh yeah? How's this for reading your fortune? I'll kill the girl if you don't drop the gun right fucking now you clown!" Another thug roared, gun pointed at the back of your head.
"Don't move or I'll blast her brains all over the walls!" He ordered Vigilante who turned to face you and your new captor.
"Hey let go of me!" You were wrestled by the forearm and dragged against the armed man's chest.
"I said don't fucking move!" The mobster warned him when Vigilante kept walking forward.
"I'll fucking do it!" The one restraining you raised his gun right against your temple.
"Oh fuck yeah that's it...put a gun up against my girlfriend's head!" Vigilante groaned, beginning to palm himself through his combat pants as he raised his own gun.
This worked perfectly into list item number 2: hostage situation roleplay.
"Oh no! Please save me Vigilante!" You cried out over dramatically, leaning your head back.
"What in the actual fuck?" One of the thugs said.
"Is he jerking himself off right now?" The other one who was holding you turned with a bewildered expression.
"Yeah I'll save you baby...I'll save you so fucking good!" Vigilante promised you, pulling the trigger while his other hand undid his fly to properly jerk off.
The thug next to the one holding you dropped dead and you moaned out loudly as you saw the life drain from his eyes.
"Take them down for me baby!" You ordered him, as your own hand went to your core, biting your lip.
"What in the fuck lady?!" The thug restraining you shouted in alarm at your freak on full display.
"You both need Jesus!" Another mobster shouted.
"Put in a good word for us with him won't you?" Vigilante asked, firing his gun and taking down the gangster who just spoke.
"Oh wait guess you can't because you're going to hell." Vigilante realised and then shrugged.
"Fucking dome this idiot already honey bear!" You snapped at Vigilante, motioning to the thug keeping you hostage.
"Wow my darling honeybun you're so beautiful when you tell me to kill for you!" Vigilante said through gritted teeth as he stroked his cock, watching you struggle in the arms of your captive.
"These two are fucking nuts! I need some back up here ASAP!" The remaining thug requested frantically over the radio.
Begrudgingly zipping back up his fly with a disappointed sigh, Vigilante addressed you.
"Okay my sugar plum he sent for backup like a little bitch so now I have to shoot him. God but you look so fucking hot like that..." Vigilante whined, blasting his Glock 17 with a bullet that tore through the thug taking you hostage right between the eyes.
"Thank you for saving me Vigilante!" You said brightly, walking over to him.
"Anytime my sexy citizen..." Vigilante replied then raised his gun again. "Get down!" He told you, pointing to the ground as a group of mobsters flooded into the warehouse office.
"But Vigilante, I must repay you somehow for rescuing me!" You said demurely. Then you kneeled down, unzipped his fly again and got to work taking Vigilante into your mouth.
"Oh fuck yeah baby that's one way to pay me back for sure!" Vigilante said with a pleased grunt, raising both guns he unloaded the clips into the thugs like shooting fish into a barrel. The kickback was a nice bonus thrust against your throat.
The incoming thugs had no idea what to do with the scene unfolding in front of them.
His pants were around his ankles, the cool night air breeze tickling his balls along with your hand. While you were on your knees bobbing your head with a series of muffled moans.
"Is she blowing him right now?" One thug asked before being blown away into a puddle of crimson.
"Yeah she is, you jealous? Bet you are, my girlfriend is ahh the fucking coolest..." Vigilante groaned as you sucked the life out of him like a vampire.
"Sucking my dick while I smoke these stupid criminals, gosh I love you so fucking much my sugar plum!" Vigilante moaned in pure appreciation of your languid efforts.
"What the fuck? I thought we were leaving the freaky stuff behind back in Gotham! This is so much worse..." Another thug complained before his brain cavity became swiss cheese.
You and Vigilante moaned at the sound of the bodies hitting the floor.
"Don't underestimate Evergreen motherfuckers, we're freaky AF on these streets!" Vigilante laughed manically, tearing through the remaining squad with ease all the while bucking his hips into your mouth.
When they were all taken care of, Vigilante holstered both guns at his hips and steadied his hands at your shoulders to properly thrust inside your mouth.
"You look so fucking perfect like this, I can't get enough of watching you suck me off..." Vigilante tilted his head back gritting his teeth as he twisted your hair in his gloves.
"Your lips wrapped around my cock is the absolute best thing on this fucking earth!" His gloved thumb lovingly glided along you lips and rested on your flushed cheeks.
"I'm going to cum my sweet sunshine. I'm gonna really...ah! C-can I...?" Adrian snapped his visor up to check in with you and when you nodded with a sloppy moan he shut it again with a sharp hiss of pleasure.
"Fuck yeah baby...swallow for your hero Vigilante!" Vigilante was back and his hands roughly gripped the back of your head as he fucked your face. "Good girl, don't waste any of it...fuck you're incredible..." He groaned loudly when he shot his load down your throat.
With a few shaky thrusts he was done slipping out of your lips and you both took a moment to catch your collective breaths.
"Wow holy shit my foxy lady that wasn't even on the list but it sure as fuck is now!" Vigilante said still slightly dazed post orgasm.
"I'm nothing if not innovative!" You said with a grin.
"You're so good to me..." He cooed, getting out some wet wipes and tissues from his utility belt.
Then he whipped out a packet of mints from another pocket and you took a couple with a wild grin.
Taking off his Vigilante mask, Adrian whipped his glasses on and dug through the duffle bag with a cheerful hum.
"Time for the second phase of the plan." He announced, getting out a bundle of bright red leather combat gear.
"And here's your surprise ta-da!" Rolling it out and picking up a helmet that mirrored his own he handed them to you.
"You made me a suit?" You asked flabbergasted.
"Yeah, I took down notes on the one other you was wearing when we went through that inter dimensional portal door thingy and replicated it to wear so if you're ever in danger again like when we were killing those Nazi cops you can wear it to help protect you..." Adrian explained simply with a shrug like it was no big deal.
"I had a lot of time on my hands now that my best friend doesn't want to see me..." He added dejectedly and your heart sank.
"And I guess when I wasn't seeing you either sorry." Adrian admitted with a guilty hang dog expression.
"No need to be sorry, I'm so excited for the suit!" You quickly reassured him with a firm hug and he perked right back up.
"You're so good to me..." Adrian sighed and brought you in for a tight hug. "Okay get your suit on before the next wave of goons arrive, it's made to your exact measurements."
When you zipped it up he wasn't lying, the Vengeance suit fit like a glove. While Adrian's animal facts were a mixed bag of true and false when it came to you he was always right.
Putting your helmet on and flipping down the visor you could see so clearly through it in fact your vision felt somewhat heightened and focused. There was also hearing protection installed which you realized was why Adrian usually yelled so much as Vigilante outside of being really excited.
The utility belt wasn't as heavy as it looked and the holsters had two Glock 17s with red accents. Adrian crouched down to help you zip up your boots and he rested his head on your calf, running a hand up your leg lovingly.
"You're so hot..." Adrian told you a completely entranced look captivating his face when he took you all in.
There was a shout in the distance and you got out your pistol holding it up in anticipation but you saw that Adrian hadn't moved.
"Do you want your helmet?" You asked Adrian and he shook his head with a whimper against your thighs. Clearly the switch had flipped back and Vigilante wanted a break with you in action as Vengeance.
The door busted open and you shrugged, blasting the thugs one by one all of your sessions at the gun range with Adrian shining through as bright bursts of crimson through their heads. You always were if nothing else an A+ grade student.
"Ooooh that girl is murder...everybody get down!" He hummed along to Justin Timberlake's Murder, kissing your boots and you giggled, threading a hair through his curly hair with one hand as the other squeezed the trigger of your pistol.
"You know that she's a killer...watch it get down...watch it get down..." Adrian continued to sing to himself sweetly, knelt down and pressing his head against your waist longingly.
Looking up at your with his big imploring green eyes, Adrian used his teeth to unzip your fly and awaited your nod of confirmation.
"Murder..." He whispered in a shudder when you nodded, trailing his tongue along your slit.
"I'm going to hollow out all of your skulls rip out the stapes bone in your ears until I have enough to make a necklace!" You shouted at the next wave of thugs who looked at one another confused.
"Go back to school motherfuckers! It's the smallest fucking bone in your body! Well outside of your dicks of course." You snapped when they still didn't get your onliner and shot them in frustration.
"You tell them baby...staple their bones together!" Adrian encouraged you before going back to eating your pussy fervently with a deep groan.
You could see the prominent tent formed in his crotch padding that he was absolutely loving this role reversal.
And so were you.
Using a boot to press down on Adrian's shoulder, you used him to leverage yourself up to shoot a taller thug in the kill zone and Adrian groaned loudly at being stepped on.
"You're like a goddess of death! My Vengeance vixen..." Adrian cried out, a couple tears of pleasure forming in the corner of his green eyes.
He was doing such a good job servicing you. So you decided to reward his efforts and keep a boot pressed firmly at his crotch as he devoted himself between your thighs like an altar.
"And you're my good boy aren't you Adrian! Who's a good boy?" You asked him, lightly kicking his erection with the heel of his boot making him arch his back and buck his hips forward.
"Ohh ahh... it's me, I'm your good boy mommy!" Adrian moaned and quickly stopped, eyeing you nervously a bead of sweat dripping down his nose.
"I uh..." He began and but stopped when you ran your heel nice and slow up his crotch.
Huh, that wasn't written down in the diary your thought to yourself and from the bewildered look on his face, he hadn't realised it until then either unlocked on the spot.
"S-sorry..." Adrian tried to apologize and you raised a finger to his lips to shush him.
"Shhh, mommy Vengeance is here." You said with a playful laugh. "And she's going to bathe the warehouse floors in the blood of these cocaine peddling scum!" You called out in a roar to the next oncoming wave.
Tossing the emptied clips of your pistols you grabbed out the sub machine gun slung over your shoulder and fired away in a rain of bullets and that vibrated your entire body, Adrian anchoring you in place as he desperately sucked your clit and began to finger you. The kickback was something else...
"Oh fuck...Adrian I don't think I can stand baby!" Your legs were becoming jelly underneath him and Adrian gave a muffled acknowledgement still kissing every inch of you.
When a lone surviving gangster tried to get the drop on you in this vulnerable state, Adrian swiftly planted a throwing knife into their neck blood spurting from their aorta without even once glancing in that direction or leaving you unattended still eating you out. Now that was multitasking, you thought to yourself.
Hiking your legs over his shoulders and your thighs around his neck, pinning you in place with a satisfied grunt. His glasses were coated in you and bullet residue was in his curly hair from being underneath the submachine gun.
When the air cleared and so did the wave of destruction you left in your midst, not a single survivor stirred and you had never felt so fucking god damn powerful in your entire life. You tore off your helmet and let it fall to your side, face patched in sweat.
"A-Adrian! I'm close, I'm so close! Fuck...!" You cried out to him, dropping the gun on the ground you wrapped your arms and legs around his neck in a crushing pretzel and Adrian stood up, lifting you alongside him until you made contact with the wall.
Pinning you there he pumped his tongue into your pussy like there was no tomorrow. You looked down and saw Adrian was jerking himself off as he ate you out wheezing and you gently smacked his shoulder to get his attention.
"Fuck me Adrian." You ordered him but Adrian shook his head defiantly, his hand leaving his cock entirely.
"Later, first I'm going to get you there my gorgeous murderess." Adrian promised, kissing your forehead before sinking back into your folds.
"Cum for me baby!" He urged you, scissoring you desperately with his gloved fingers while lovingly sucking your clit.
"I've been so good for you baby please oh please cum all over my face!" Adrian whimpered.
"A-Adrian!" Your entire being ached so fucking good as you rode out one of the greatest orgasms of your entire life. Whole galaxies opened up behind your eyes that you squeezed shut.
It was amazing, you'd taken everything just then.
Shuddering against Adrian who lapped everything up desperately like he was drying from dehydration in the Savannah when you were finished he brought you in for a cuddle. Looking down you saw there was a damp patch at his crotch padding.
Your eyes misted over with tears and he gently threaded a hand through your hair as you cried from the amazing rush of it all.
"You're so good, you're a good girl, you're my good girl come here..." Adrian whispered to you.
"I killed all of those fuckers..." You said feebly nodding back at Adrian with a sob.
"Yeah baby you did so good, you fucked up all those criminals you're amazing." Adrian kissed your forehead and made his way down to your cheeks and then your lips.
When you were ready Adrian helped you up onto your feet and he put on his helmet and then did yours.
"Let's go kill the crime boss now, he's holed up in the inventory room. I heard him pissing himself over the radio." Adrian told you giddily, clapping his hands together like it was time to sing happy birthday around the cake.
"Let's do this!" You grinned, slapping down your visor.
When you got to the inventory room Vigilante motioned for you to stand at the side and stay while he got the door with his lockpicks. You heard a loud click and Vigilante sauntered in, duffel bag in hand.
"Who the fuck are you?!" The crime boss shouted at Vigilante, holding a shotgun trained on him.
Vigilante ignored him humming away as he tossed the duffel bag and began skipping around to put C-4 over the place.
"Hey I asked you a fucking god damn question you masked freak! Who the fuck do you think you are?"
"Well duh I'm Vigilante obviously, if you haven't heard of me then that's your problem for living under a rock!" Vigilante scoffed, staring at the shotgun directly pointed at his chest.
"12 gauge. Cute." He said, taking his honshu blade he used it to the jam the barrel and the gauge misfired causing the boss to drop it in a yelp of pain.
"Hurry up and just kill me already." The mob boss spat back and Vigilante shook his head at that with a boyish laugh that turned cold like ice.
"I've looked at your rap sheet. Outside of this lucrative venture, extortion, trafficking, your biggest rap sheet is in rape, sexual assault and battery." Vigilante listed it off and your blood boiled. He put his fingers in his mouth and whistled the signal for you to make your entrance.
"Now say hello to my little girlfriend!" Vigilante announced proudly. He was so ready for you to kill this third rate Scarface wannabe.
You walked in dressed as Vengeance in red black and white, helmet fitted out with a teal visor and sub machine gun in hand at the ready.
"Her name is Vengeance!" Vigilante grinned.
"That woman deserves her revenge. And you deserve to die." He quoted Kill Bill when you lifted the gun and fired.
"Yippee ki yay motherfucker!" You cried out unleashing the whole magazine into that fucking waste of space. The mob boss was an unidentifiable sack of riddled flesh, viscera and cartilage when you were done with him.
Taking deep breaths, you high fives Vigilante and cheered together. "Mission success!" He shouted pumping the air and jumping for joy.
"Alrighty Chi Chi get the yayo." Vigilante said, pointing to the cocaine and you frowned.
"Uh what?" You shrugged completely lost.
"Could you please get the cocaine bricks off the table and put them in the duffle bag for me my precious sunset while I set up the C-4?" Vigilante asked in plain English this time.
"Oh sure I can do that." You got to work tossing the bricks into the bag.
"We really need to watch Scarface together my sugar plum." Adrian said, pulling off the helmet. "Then you'll get all of my zany perfectly timed references!"
"Okay but first you need to watch the Princess Bride to get my zany references! The fact you still don't get them is inconceivable!" You retorted taking off yours, it was insane that Adrian hadn't seen that movie.
"Well there is one movie we've both seen together recently is the Wolf of Wall Street..." Adrian said coyly.
"Oh and what reference from that movie did you want to make?" You knew the answer of course but wanted to get him to say it.
"I want to make the reference together that when we get all of this blood curse money back home to the Vigilante hideout with the rest of it I want us to fuck on the piles until neither of us can think straight. That's what I'm referring to." Adrian said with a big cheesy grin enjoying every bit of watching your face flush bright red.
"That's a good reference..." You admitted.
Adrian went to finish setting up the charges, getting out a wired detonator and placing it in the centre he pressed the big red button.
"Okay now we have like..." Adrian checked his watch.
"Eight minutes to get the fuck out of dodge before this place explodes." He told you, grabbing you by the hand tightly and booked it to the Sebring.
A massive explosion erupted behind you both as Adrian pulled out of the docks, the warehouse you were both just in nothing but ash and molten dancing cactus thingys.
The drive back to the Chase residence was one filled with exhilarated laughter between the two of you to the sweet beat of Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! by the Vengaboys, the entire car stashed to the floor and ceiling with money and cocaine.
Boom, boom, boom, boom
I want you in my room...
Let's spend the night together...
From now until forever!
"This is so much more fun with a partner!" Adrian said turning to you with a dopey smile on his face.
"I'll always be your partner Adrian." You said brightly, taking his hand into yours. "But I might sit out on the tougher missions, those guys were small fry right?"
"Yeah they were hire-a-goon sitting ducks but that still doesn't mean you weren't fucking amazing my sugar bear!" Adrian replied earnestly.
"Thanks honey bear." You gave him a big smooch on the cheek.
Boom, boom, boom, boom...
I wanna go boom, boom...
Let's spend the night together...
Together in my room!
It was a race to the finish line when you both hauled the cash and cocaine down into the basement. Once everything was all in place you were exhausted but the reference Adrian made kept your mind racing.
"All done sugar plum!" Adrian grinned at you, tossing off his gloves and boots but keeping the rest of his suit on he wiped the copious amounts of sweat off his brow.
You took your gloves off to do the same and turned to see Adrian staring expectantly at you.
"Well, now I'm going to stick my dick in you until you can't walk straight my sweet pumpkin." Adrian said the line so sweetly that it made you laugh into the sloppy kiss he gave you.
Laying you down on the pile of dirty blood money, your back was protected from paper-cuts by the combat suit and Adrian zipped down the front to get access to your rocking tits.
He captured your nipples in his mouth, lapping at the hardening buds. Eyes closed shut his expression was the perfect mixture of concentration and ecstasy. Adrian always made sure to address each breast evenly, he couldn't play favorites he would tell you and them.
Sucking a hickey between them both, Adrian ran his tongue down your collarbone to your sternum with a throaty groan.
"Time for the money shot baby?" You asked him with a smirk at how worked up he already was.
"Not yet, gotta give you my fat wad first." Adrian replied with a stupid grin.
Snapping on a condom, Adrian's pants and briefs were around his ankles so they wouldn't touch his butt while you fucked. It was more dry humping at this point you were both exhausted but Adrian was not a quitter.
He grabbed your leg and pushed it up to your chest, lining his cock up with the other hand. You were still wet from earlier and he slid in without any resistance.
"F-fuck...you're so perfect." He admired you as he entered you and started rambling while thrusting shakily.
"Everything about you, I get lost in your dazzling eyes, your soft hair that smells like flowers, your absolutely rocking tits, your strong thighs, your sublime pussy, you're my sexy labyrinth and I'm a minotaur roaming around you for all eternity imprisoned by how beautiful you fucking are..." He said kissing your cheeks softly as he lazily rutted into you nice and slow.
"Adrian you're so fucking perfect, your green eyes are like the ocean and your gorgeous smile is like a great big light house that guides me back to your strong arms. Also your ass is perfect and plump like a big peach that I want to bite into!" You said spanking his ass which made Adrian go wild, properly thrusting into you now.
"Ahh fuck, your cock is also perfect it curves just right and so deep my coke bottle loverboy!" You cried out slapping his ass again to keep going.
"Oh my sugar soaker..." Adrian clearly had more lined up but couldn't find the words as he rolled his hips at your hands beck and call.
Dollar bills cascaded off the pile and floated around you both before settling like snowflakes.
"W-will you cum for me again?" Adrian asked looking a bit worried as he locked eyes with you.
"I don't know Adrian, but it's okay this feels good baby..." You told him trying to reassure him by combing your fingers through his curly hair.
"H-hey touch yourself for me." Adrian requested, pulling your wrist down. "Go on, rub your clit I want to see you make yourself cum while I'm inside you."
There was something about when Adrian got dominant outside of the Vigilante suit that really drove you wild.
You nodded finding that idea incredibly hot, circling your clit the way you liked it and tipped your head back as Adrian began to snap his hips again.
His green eyes transfixed on the motion of your hand and himself entering you like Adrian was making a calculation in his mind, gritting his teeth.
"That's it, get yourself there baby and then I'll blow my load..." Adrian cooed, cupping your face lovingly.
Staring at each other intensely, Adrian took in your expression like he was painting a picture of you in his mind every pleasured gasp a brush stroke he added when you writhed underneath him.
"I wanna fuck you through your orgasm, come on be a good girl and cum first for me!" He ordered you with a desperate whine.
That neediness did it for you, you finally came and Adrian's face lit up with a dopey grin as he pumped away and you were flat on your back. A few thrusts of watching you lost in your post orgasm haze beneath him in wonderment was all he needed and Adrian finished with a loud satisfied moan.
When you two got upstairs and Adrian peeled out of his Vigilante costume and you out of the Vengeance costume you could tell the switch had been pulled over in the other direction when he got out of the shower. He was only dressed in a towel around his waist and his brow was adorably furrowed.
"Uh...while we're exploring all of this stuff..." Adrian said gingerly and continued when you reassuringly nodded and took his hand.
"I-I made something for me to wear too alongside that vigilante dominatrix outfit..." He said with a sharp sigh like he was worried you'd be disgusted or disappointed.
"Wow really? I want to see it Adrian!" You told him.
"Well, okay...I'll go get changed into it. But uh yeah it's...a bit different..." Adrian trailed off walking into his closet and you heard him shuffling around and getting changed with some cursing.
"If you don't like it and think it's weird I won't ever wear it again and I'll burn it..." Adrian said nervously walking out to you.
Your jaw dropped. He was in thigh high teal laced stockings, attached to a garter belt with leather black and white accents running down the sides, and a Vigilante suit corset with red string laced at the back.
He looked beautiful.
"I got inspired by Rocky Horror Picture Show..." He added, his face burning bright red as you appraised it, his own eyes glued to the floor.
"Oh my pretty prince...I love it!" You sighed dreamily at the sight of him all dolled up.
"R-really?" Adrian replied shakily, peering up at you still a bit shy.
"Yeah, it's so sexy honey bear...do you have heels you'd want to wear with it?" You offered.
"No! That's like you wearing my glasses, I don't have the right prescription to wear the heels. It's your thing..." Adrian said insistently, clearly hating the very notion of it so you let it go.
"I'm glad you like it." Adrian grinned brightly at you, his cheeks and ears bright pink. He got a bit more confident and did a little twirl for you to show off the whole ensemble.
"I love it!" You exclaimed, admiring how his muscles flexed against the corsets boning, while the stockings helped accentuate his amazing strong thighs and well defined calves.
Then a loud tapping on the door scared the shit out of both of you.
"Sweetie, are you in there? I'm back from church choir!" Mrs. Chase called out from outside the door and Adrian's eyes bugged out of his skull. "Did you get to sleep?"
"Fuck!" He screamed, throwing the covers over to hide you and then tried to find something to put over himself as the door was knocked on more aggressively.
"I can hear you in there Adrian, what's wrong?" Mrs. Chase opened the door looking at the mess you'd caused over the weekend.
"Oh god it's disgusting in here, young man you need to clean your room..." Then she paused, taking in Adrian's outfit, which he was in the middle of trying to cover up with a bathrobe.
"Mom, seriously I mean it get the fuck out now!" Adrian let out a high pitched holler.
"Oh Adrian what are you wearing don't tell me...you aren't..." Mrs. Chase began, holding a hand up to her lips.
"Don't start mom, just fuck off and leave!" Adrian continued to yell, his face brick red.
"Are you gay Adrian? Like your father? You need to tell her right away young man if you are! I won't let you put her through that torment like Charles being closeted did to me!" Mrs. Chase said, hands on her hips. "I will love and accept you no matter what Adrian but it's not fair to do this to her!"
"IT'S NOT FUCKING LIKE THAT!" Adrian cursed over and over again, rubbing his temples.
"It's really not like that Mrs. Chase!" You piped up and revealed yourself from the covers. "Adrian just likes dressing up in lingerie trust me he's still very much into me! And I'm super into him! Our sex life is fantastic!"
"Oh thank goodness...aw how darling is that outfit, you're just like Tim Curry! Dear why didn't you just say so?" Mrs. Chase asked Adrian with a frown.
"Fine, mom I'm out of the closet, I'm kind of... bisexual? But I also don't really enjoy sex much outside of with her to be honest and I was bro bonding with Chris...but then again I did really want to kind of fuck myself that one time...so I don't fucking know? And yeah I like dressing up in lingerie occasionally...and I love when she steps on my head with high heels on...plus I have tons of other fucked up shit that I enjoy sexually, there happy?" Adrian huffed, folding his arms and waiting bitterly for the insane response.
"Yes I'm super happy! That's just great Adrian, I love my bisexual son and it's so wonderful that you've found such an open minded partner to explore all of this in a loving way! Now should we have some lunch? I'll make sammiches." Mrs. Chase replied brightly, completely unfazed.
"...what really? You're not going to lecture me?" Adrian asked his mother bewildered.
"No? Why would I do that?" Mrs. Chase scoffed at the question and cocked her head in confusion. "Don't be silly! Now hurry up and tidy this room of yours young man!"
"The only thing I have to criticize is that you're wearing protection and not working on getting me any grandchildren..." She chuckled, walking back down the stairs with a whistle.
"Huh. Maybe my mom is cool." Adrian reluctantly admitted.
"Definitely, Mrs. Chase is the coolest!" You agreed with a big grin.
"We should really get our own place soon though!" Adrian said, gripping your hand tightly.
You nodded fervently at that. A private place of your own to be together and keep exploring things was definitely in order.
Hi! Your requests are open, and I saw that you create content not only about Peacemaker, but about DC in general.
My fanfic request is about a reader who is a Wayne, but who chose not to be a heroine and instead she's an investigator/government agent. She wants to take her boyfriend, Adrian Chase, to meet her not-at-all strange family (゜ー゜)
If you prefer something more detailed, I personally imagine a reader in her 30s-35s, a little more serious, who loves Adrian's personality and doesn't mind listening to him talk for hours.
A/N: anon…how did you know I’m getting back into Batman, that’s spooky. I wrote my first Jason fic in years and it’s sitting in my drafts to go up in July, but here you are reading my mind when I haven’t written for them since 2020 or even read a comic since probably earlier than that, so if peeps are a little OOC I am sorry! I also made the reader just part of the bat family because I didn’t want to give the reader a race, so you can consider them a Wayne or not your pick! Thank you @vigilantexreader for the beta!

The private plane was a little over the top, but when was Bruce not over the top?
She had been living in Evergreen for the past five years and while she missed her family, she didn’t miss much of Gotham. It was great for working black ops, always busy, but it wore on her. She wasn’t like her brothers, she didn’t have much heart for vigilante work and much preferred working behind the scenes. Even then working in Gotham was too much and she applauded Barbara for sticking through and always ready to help, but she was happy where she was.
It was Evergreen where she met Harcourt and Economos and it was the first time outside of her family that she actually started to feel like she belonged. It was a nice little bubble the three of them had and then Project Butterfly happened and they started working again with Peacemaker, a man she had only heard of when Harcourt had one too many drinks and would open up about Project Starfish.
But with Peacemaker, came Vigilante. At first she found his endless nonsense really annoying, but coupled that with the fact that every chance he got he checked on her, thanked her, and brought her some of her favorite treats she couldn’t help the small butterflies in her stomach.
And even though she swore of dating vigilantes after watching her brother’s fumble relationship after relationship. Adrian Chase had worn her down.
They had been dating for a little over a year now and for the first time in her adult life she finally felt comfortable bringing her boyfriend back to Gotham to meet her family.
“A private plane is so fucking cool and there’s no pilot? That’s so fucking cool,” Adrian said for what had to be for the hundredth time as he shuffled in the seat across from her, she peered over her book with a small smile as Adrian looked around.
“Yeah,” she said gently and he looked over at her, a goofy smile on his face.
“Are you nervous? Is it weird that I’m nervous?” he asked and she smiled, putting her bookmark in her book and setting it off to the side.
“I don’t think it’s weird that you’re nervous,” she said simply and he nodded.
“I just really want them to like me both as your boyfriend and as Vigilante. I’m so glad he sent the plane because I have no idea how we’d get my suit through the everyday security, like could you imagine?” he said with a bright laugh.
“You didn’t bring any of your guns right?” she asked and Adrian nodded. “Good, Bruce would hate that and I don’t want to start anything because Jason would defend you and then it’ll just be a whole thing.”
“Should I call him Bruce? Mr. Wayne? Batman? Mr. Batman?” he listed off and she rolled her eyes when she realized each suggestion was serious.
“I don’t know I just call him Bruce, but if you feel like you should call him something else, you can?” she said, nudging back at her book as Adrian glanced at it.
“Are you trying to finish it before we get there?” he asked, gently and she smiled.
“Jason recommended it, I wanted to finish it so we can talk about it while I’m there in person,” she said and he nodded towards her book.
“You can read,” he said softly. “I can be quiet for a few hours,” he promised, crossing his finger over his heart. She hummed as she picked up her book, finding herself reading the same page over and over again as she tried to not spiral too much about what might be her brothers’ reactions to Adrian.
She knew at the end of the day that if she said she was happy and they cleared their grievances they would at the very least back off and let her live her life, but getting there might be painful. Especially considering her and Adrian planned to stay for a week. Which also meant that Adrian was going to get antsy and want to go on patrol.
Vigilante in Gotham was almost asking from and it wasn’t that she didn’t think he could handle it, she just wasn’t sure how Bruce was going to feel about Adrian’s “kill first, ask questions later” motto. Maybe she can distract Adrian enough to take a week off and just avoid the conversation entirely.
True to Adrian’s promise he let her read in peace, but she didn’t get much reading done. Most of her thoughts finally circled the worst case scenarios of her family's reactions to her boyfriend. She felt lucky knowing that at the very least there was little they could do to make Adrian not like them. Still a week was a long time to deal with all the frequent flyers of Wayne Manor.
Once they landed, they made quick work grabbing their bags and heading towards the pickup spot. Her face splitting into a grin when she saw Alfred standing outside of one of the Wayne cars, a gentle smile on his face.
“It is so good to see you, my dear.” he said, quickly accepting her hug as Adrian took her bag, smiling and bouncing back and forth on his heels as he watched them. “And you must be Mr. Chase, it’s a pleasure to meet you as well.” he said, holding out his hand, which Adrian readily took.
“Just Adrian is fine!” he said brightly. “It’s nice to meet you too!”
Alfred gave her a smile, before they all got in the car.
“Everyone is already at the manor, eagerly awaiting your arrival,” he said, looking at them from the review mirror and she smiled.
“It’s that exciting?” she teased, squeezing Adrian’s hand as she watched Gotham whiz by from the window.
“It’s been five years since you’ve been home, of course it’s that exciting. You should’ve seen Master Bruce’s face when he got your message.”
“Really?” she asked, biting her lip. “And the fact I’m bringing someone who I…spilled the beans to?” She watched Alfred seem to choose his next words carefully.
“He’s aware of…Adrian’s own… night time activities. I believe that softened the blow. Master Damian had more resistance, but once Master Bruce spoke to him things seemed to get easier. In fact, I think the boys are now excited to get to talk ‘shop’ and show off some gadgets from the bat cave.”
“Oh my god, can we please do that first, that sounds amazing!” Adrian said, looking at her with wide begging eyes as she laughed.
“You don’t want to unpack and get settled first?” she asked, squeezing his hand.
“Okay, yeah that first then cool gadgets. Do you know if I can bring my suit down? I made it myself and I’ve been dying to get feedback and upgrades from others that actually understand what I’m going for,” Adrian asked, leaning forward as Alfred chuckled.
“Oh, I’m sure Tim is going to have a field day with that, he’ll love doing that,” she answered before Alfred could.
“I believe you’re quite right,” he said, pulling into the manor. “You know the way to your room and I will gather everyone in the bat cave shortly.”
She happily led Adrian through the manor, smiling as she listened to his ‘ohs’ and ‘aws’ as he carried both their bags up to her old room. Which was left just how she remembered it. She smiled as she started to unpack and Adrian took in every picture, poster, and knick knack she had left behind. She tried her best to not let the fact the room was the same make her feel any sort of way, Bruce was weird and sentimental about the weirdest things and she tried to not think about the fact that any of them had been waiting for her to come home this long.
“You okay?” Adrian asked, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist, his head resting on her shoulder. She placed her hands on top of his.
“Yeah, just thinking,” she said honestly.
“Ready to go? Or do you want a few minutes?” he asked. “We can always play hookey for a bit. I honestly wouldn’t mind. Not that I’m nervous to meet them at all! I just know that this has to be a lot for you, home for the first time in five years and I’m just so grateful you wanted to share this with me and not just because Bruce Wayne is Batman and I’m about to see Batman’s lair.”
“Don’t call it a lair,” she said, crinkling her nose and Adrian chuckled, kissing her cheek. “It’s just the Bat Cave.”
“The Cave!” he said, trying and failing to sound mysterious as she laughed, leaning most of her weight back and against Adrian.
“Yeah, let’s go to the cave,” she said, unraveling herself from Adrian who pouted at the loss of contact before she slotted her hand in his.
She was pleased they bumped into Jason first, who was quick to wrap her up in a hug that she returned. Out of her whole family her and Jason always got along best, she always chalked it up to the fact that both of them were comfortable in the silence, never feeling like they had to make conversation and they could just exist around each other.
“Hey sis,” he said, squeezing her when she laughed, letting go of Adrian’s hand to give him a proper hug.
“Hey, Jay. How are you?” she said, releasing him as Jason turned to shake Adrian’s hand.
“Here,” he said with a shrug, the wait of the word was clear to her and she was happy that he made the sacrifice for her and Adrian. “You must be Adrian.”
“You must be Jason!” Adrian parroted back and Jason smiled at her.
“I like your methods,” Jason said, skipping straight to the point and Adrian beamed at him.
“Thanks man! See, I wanted to bring my guns, but wasn’t sure about the security of the airport and I figured getting detained on the way to meet my girlfriend's family was not the move,” he answered honestly. “But! If you ever find your way to Evergreen you’ve gotta come check out my set up!”
“Will do, the old man is waiting for you. I’ve got some stuff I have to take care of but I’ll be around a few times this week,” he said, moving to slip away, but she grabbed his arm before he could move too far away. His green eyes snapped to her face.
“Let’s get a drink at some point this week, out of the manor.” she said and he smiled.
“We do have some books to talk about,” he said before finally slipping away. She would never pressure Jason to stay or be around Bruce but she wished for her sanity he would stay.
“Come, let’s meet everyone else,” she said, putting her hand back into Adrian’s before she started to lead them back down. She smiled as she heard the familiar sounds of Tim and Damien bickering and Bruce typing away at the keyboard.
“Hey guys,” she said and all their heads whipped towards her. “This is Adrian-”
“Holy shit is that a bo staff?” Adrian asked, immediately letting go of her hand to inspect Tim’s staff that was in his hands. Tim blinked, eyes wide on her before looking back at Adrian.
“Oh yeah, it’s collapsible and-”
“It’s collapsible!” Adrian practically shouted as both her and Damien winced, but Tim just started grinning. “Oh my god that’s so cool. I typically have a katana on my back that I use on occasion but trust me I’m always looking for new and different weapons to try on patrol. Could you show me how you use it?”
“Yeah, of course. I’ve got a second one. If you want to spar with it, I can show you a few moves.” Tim suggested and Adrian turned towards her and she laughed as he gave her his best puppy dog eyes.
“Sure, just please be careful,” she said as Tim immediately starting leading Adrian throughout the Bat Cave, listing off the various gadgets and gizmos they had.
“Nerds,” Damian said with a scoff as he trailed behind them.
“If they’re nerds, why are you following them?” she asked, smiling as Damian turned to glare at her.
“Someone here needs to make sure he’s actually equipped to protect his city. It’s a travesty none of us have done it yet,” Damian said, shuffling slightly and avoiding her eye contact, but the meaning between the words is still there. His city, her, in Damian’s mind the same thing.
She watched the three of them make their way to the training area as she walked over to Bruce, jumping up to sit on the desk as she watched him. He was at least in casual clothing, she partially expected him to go running off as Batman when she brought a new person home. She guessed the night was still young.
“He’s meta?” Bruce asked her, eyes sharp on the computer as she narrowed her eyes, of course the questions would be the first thing out of his mouth and she wasn’t even sure if he had even looked at Adrian to acknowledge his existence in person. His body stayed tense or well as tense as Bruce would ever show. He clearly felt out of place questioning her at all when she didn’t react the way he wanted.
“How do you know that?” she asked.
“I have access to the A.R.G.U.S. servers,” he said simply and she scoffed. She knew for a fact that Adrian’s file with A.R.G.U.S was far from lacking and she could only begin to wonder just how much Bruce already knew about him before she even said she was bringing him home.
The invasion should bother her, but coming from Bruce she knew it was just the strange way he showed care for them.
“Access or you’ve hacked them?”
“Does it matter? He’s a meta human?” he pressed again as he turned in his chair to look at her, arms crossed tightly across his chest.
“In the loosest way possible, yes he’s meta. He can heal fast, he typically passes out if the pain is too bad and he wakes up fine,” she relented and he nodded. “That doesn’t mean you need to come up with a contingency plan,” she hissed, making sure no one else could hear her as Adrian and Time kept talking about the different weapons.
“I didn’t say I made a contingency plan, did I?” Bruce said and she rolled her eyes. “I think it’s fair that I look into anyone who my kids are dating.”
“Yeah a social media check, not going through top secret files from a government agency,” she said, rolling her eyes.
“I do what I can,” he said and she smiled.
“I know,” she said gently as she looked over to where the boys were, she saw Dick above them leaning against the bannister watching Adrian and Tim spar while Damian egged on Tim.
“Why don’t you go see what Dick is up to,” Bruce said and she looked back over to him.
“I will, but first your thoughts,” she said and Bruce furrowed his brow.
“Thoughts on what?” he asked.
“On Adrian and well…I guess me?” she clarified, looking away. She truly hated how badly she wanted Bruce’s approval at this moment, but she figured they were all weak when it came to wanting Bruce to agree with their life choices.
“He seems nice,” he said gently. “Makes you happy, happy enough to come home and bring someone with you. He understands the field, which I know makes dating feel impossible.”
“Yeah,” she said softly.
“But I like him, I’m sure the rest will give you their opinions, but I’m happy to see you both,” he finished and she nodded, trying to fight the beaming smile that threatened to take over her features.
“Yeah, I’m happy to see you guys too,” she said before squeezing his shoulder and making her way up to where Dick was watching Adrian and Tim. Adrian bouncing around and talking almost nonstop while he and Tim practiced with the bo staff.
“So, he’s a lot,” Dick said, leaning against the railing with her as she watched Adrian and Tim go back and forth about different gadgets.
“Hm, a little” she relented with a small smile and he chuckled.
“But he’s good to you?”
“The best,” she answered honestly.
“That’s good,” he hummed, clapping an arm around her shoulder and tugging her in for a small side hug.
“Baby! Do you think we have room in the apartment for a bo staff?” Adrian shouted up at her and she smiled.
“If it’s collapsible and Tim helps you,” she shouted down and Tim gave her a thumbs up as he focused on Adrian, the two still circling each other before going back to sparing.
“You guys live together?” Dick asked softly.
“He just moved into my apartment three months ago,” she said, leaving out the part where Adrian was living with his mom. Not that any of the bat family really had much of a say in that, they’ve all lived in Wayne Manor or by using Bruce’s help at one point or another.
“That serious, huh?”
“Serious enough I brought him to meet you guys,” she hummed and he smiled.
“Yeah that’s true,” he said, not saying anything else as they watched the two spar. She could tell Adrian and Tim were pretty evenly matched since Adrian was newer to the weapon, but as he started to get a hang of it he started to get the edge on Tim. Once Damian immediately noticed the slip he looked up at her and Dick, giving her an approval nod.
They all end up watching Adrian spar with Damian and katanas and later with Dick as he practiced with escrima sticks. Adrian was having the time of his life sparring with them and the others seemed impressed with how eager he was.
Later when they were wrapping everything up in the Bat Cave, she managed to pull Adrian to the side, whispering in his ear.
“Heads up, Bruce did access your files from A.R.G.U.S. I’m so sorry,” she whispered and Adrian turned to look at her, cocking his head to the side with a goofy grin.
“No baby, he absolutely should do that! I mean what if I was a complete weirdo! I’m glad he’s checking in and making sure you’re safe. Do you think he found anything cool on me?” he asked brightly and she laughed, leaning into him.
“I’m sure you can ask,” she said smiling at him as he smiled back, leaning in to plant a gentle kiss on her cheek.
“Awesome! I wonder if he has access to Chris’ file too! I’d love to know which one of us Batman himself thinks is the cooler superhero!”
“Of course,” she said flatly and Adrian chuckled.
“Hey,” he said, wrapping her up in his arms. He was barely sweaty from the sparring.
“Hey,” she said softly, the others bickering about what they wanted to order for dinner, as if Alfred wasn’t going to make sure she got to pick for her first night back in Gotham.
“I’m really glad you brought me out here, not just because this is sick as fuck and I can’t wait to get to know them all better, but because you wanted me to meet them. It means a lot,” he said softly, his smile almost shy reminding her of when they first started dating and how nervous he would get by her.
“Of course, I’m really glad you said yes,” she whispered and he shook his head.
“You should know by now I’ll say yes to anything you want,” he said, kissing her forehead. “I love you.”

The dm screen was set, relevant dice all in their cups and trays ready to be rolled, minis painted, the only thing missing was...something.
"WHAT AM I MISSING?!" Adrian freaked out for the hundreth time over the dining room table, near tearing his hair out.
“Aw Adrian, it’s okay, it doesn't need to be perfect. It’s not like it’s a wedding or something.” You giggled from the kitchen, preparing snacks with Mrs. Chase. Ants on a log, pigs in a blanket, buffalo wings, jalapeño poppers, nachos, the two of you were going all out and it was time to get the desserts ready.
“This is more important than something trivial to plan like a measly wedding!” Adrian panicked, checking over his minis for the hundredth time. “This is fucking DND with the gang! I’ve been wanting to set this up for YEARS now! But none of them have ever agreed to it before!”
Glaring at the gridded map he had spread out on the table, he frowned and replaced it with a near identical grass plain, only hexagonal this time. “IT HAS TO BE PERFECT!”
Your vain attempts to hint at a wedding sadly fell on deaf ears as Adrian measured out the hexagons per tree minis ratio for three quarter coverage in combat at his DM screen.
“Sorry about him, he gets so awfully nervous about parties or catch-ups with his friends. Probably because none of the kids in Adrian’s classes ever showed up to his birthday parties in school.” Mrs. Chase whispered to you, scooping out some brownie mix for the tray.
“How awful! Mrs Chase, you said that you kept all of Adrian's yearbooks and class photos?” You asked, smiling innocently while internally ready to make those childhood bullies rue the day that they were ever born.
“I did sweetie, let's look over them together! And please call me Loretta.” She beamed, excited to keep showing off her pride and joy.
As everyone began to file in and sit around the table, bringing enough alcohol to open a distillery, you and Loretta ran around trying to make sure everyone was comfortable.
Setting down coasters down at the same time, placemats, cutlery and dips you both loved to fuss over others.
"Can I get a rootbeer?" Adrian called out to the kitchen as you both went to bring the dessert.
"Of course sweetie!" You and Loretta sang back in the same tone.
"Hey dude have you ever kinda noticed that your girlfriend is pretty similar to your mom..." Chris said innocently, before he saw the murder death glare Adrian was giving him.
"If you say that to me ever again, I'm sorry I know you're my best friend in the entire world but I will kill you." Adrian said, his stare so intense that Chris fully believed it.
"Yikes, somebody has mommy issues..." John muttered under his breath.
“Let's introduce our characters round the table!” Adrian loudly interrupted that train of thought before it could go any further. “You're all adventurers who are ready to go questing in the local tavern.
“I’m a halfling rogue.” Judomaster announced, putting his feet up on the table until Langston deftly swiped them off.
“Have some respect while in the lovely Loretta’s abode! And the question was ‘what D&D character are you playing?’ not a basic introduction.” Langston said with a stern glare, before stealing a look at Mrs Chase who you noticed was in a slightly lower cut cardigan than usual sitting next to him.
Rip rolled his eyes and pointed down at the mini in front of Langston. “Haha very funny, why the fuck are you a bird dude? Aren't you bird deaf or something?”
Langston stared at the bird man mini with a quizzical frown. “I have bird blindness, it's a serious condition!”
“Oh dear how terrible. I feel like I've heard about that on dateline.” Mrs Chase put a comforting hand on Langston's shoulder, who immediately snuggled his cheek against it. “You're so strong to suffer with such an affection Mr Fleury!”
“No please, beautiful women can call me Langston.”
Adrian looked like he was about to blow a gasket.
“And I'm not a bird dude, I'm an Aarakockra. Which I assume is like some kind of lizard person. Or is this an elf? It's hard to tell…” Langston trailed off, setting it back down.
“I went for a sorcerer because I'm charming as hell and it's all natural baby…” Langston stared dreamily into Mrs Chase's lovely green eyes as he described his characters class.
“Ooh! I'm a voluptuous vampire warlock who was turned by her patron, and also super charismatic.” Mrs Chase grinned, pushing her cleavage together slightly as she picked up her mini. “She's like Elvira, oh I had a little bit of a goth phase myself. I watched Siouxsie and the Banshees back in the day…”
“I'd let you feed on me anytime baby doll…” Langston drawled.
“I'm a gorgeous wood elf druid with dire doggos as my animal summons!” Adebayo diffused the situation gracefully.
“I'm a half orc barbarian because I want to punch things.” Harcourt explained sharply, cracking her knuckles.
Chris grinned beside her, showing off his mini which he'd crudely painted. “And I'm a hot as fuck tiefling bard. I use my awesome singing to take down all the baddies and tavern wenches panties.”
“AND the tavern dudes panties.” He added to quell the angry eyebrows from Harcourt and Adebayo.
“I'm a warforged artificer.” Sasha said briefly, already looking bored.
“So a fantastic cyborg? How creative.” John scoffed.
“Shut up, what the hell are you playing as then?” Sasha snapped back.
John gave a real nerdy smirk, a geeky smoulder if you will as he presented an immaculately painted mini. “I'm a Firbolg wizard.”
“So a big hairy nerd with no hit points? I thought we were meant to play a character not ourselves.” Sasha clapped back. “And a warforged isn't a cyborg, they are a sentient being made from metal created by magic to fight wars.”
“Nerd alert!” Rip cackled.
The entire table started to go off the rails, a total dms nightmare as everyone began to loudly role play their characters at the same time.
“I'd like to seduce the barkeep!” Chris shouted, rolling his die. “NATURAL 20!” He clapped his hands together like he was trying to set a fire.
“Wait, I didn't say for you to roll…” Adrian began but was ignored.
“So what position do we do? I'm thinking…” Chris continued on graphically while suggesting the hair metal ballads that would suit each one.
“I want to start a bar fight.” Harcourt announced, rolling her dice. All of them at once. “How many do I hit?”
“You can't just start combat.” John sighed. Adrian lit right up at a voice of reason. “Can I order an ale?”
“Of course it's five copper, my fine Firbolg friend.” Adrian grinned, putting on the gruff barkeep character voice he'd been practicing.
“Five copper? What a rip off! I cast charm person to get a free drink.” John said and Adrian's face fell again.
“Are you sure? It's standard for…” Adrian tried to explain but was cut off again.
“I want to steal all the coin off the barkeep!” Rip declared, rolling for it. Somehow another natural 20 and the table all cheered.
“It's a wisdom saving throw for my charm person.” John said.
“Well okay but…” Adrian was floundering.
“Are there any animals I can talk to up in here?” Adebayo asked.
You could tell that your man was getting seriously over stimulated, hands beginning to tremble with his bottom lip.
Clearing your throat sharply you got the attention of the entire room with scathing librarian shush, making all heads turn.
“Ahem, I haven't even gotten to introduce myself yet.” You stated severely.
“Of course! Sorry my love, please tell everyone your character.” Adrian was glad for the reprieve, especially given his mother and Langston were trying to out roll each other for seduction currently.
“I'm a Goliath cleric.” You said cheerfully, placing your mini down. Just like yourself it was wearing a removable black velvet cloak.
“Huh, that's kinda standard.” John mused, the rest of the table similarly surprised at your time choice. Then the other shoe dropped. Along with your cloak.
Everyone's eyes nearly bulged out of their skulls at your cosplay. Black leather studded pauldrons flowed into a chain mail laced body suit in long chained silver ropes that left nothing to the imagination. Thigh-high boots with rings and skulls up the side and elbow-length gloves helped finalise the dominatrix outfit,
“Of the Lady of Pain, Lovitar.” You continued, a cat-like grin on your painted ruby red lips.
Adrian loved that shade of lipstick so much, it was the blood red you wore the very first day you'd met in the library.
“Ah there it is.” John sighed.
“Woah, the uh Scourge Mistress?” Adrian audibly gulped, blushing behind the DM screen.
“That's right, my sacred duty is to enact the Patroness of Torturers will with her cat of nine tails, finding those faithful and willing of the whip.” You drew the cat of nine tails whip you’d made and cracked it behind your chair, startling the table. “Any takers?”
“Wait so you’re a Goliath too?” Adebayo needed the full picture here and as you nodded everyone saw the vision but Harcourt spelled it out, looking thoroughly impressed.
“Giant goth dom mommy.” She murmured like it was a secret code you’d unlocked to successfully swipe the declaration of independence.
“That’s right.” You flashed everyone a sharp smile, those hypnotically crazy eyes intensely staring into Adrian’s soul. He gave you a loving stare back, drunk off how good you looked.
You'd successfully out freaked them all, even Langston and his mother, allowing Adrian to slip into the role of Dungeon Master without any more interruptions.
God Adrian seriously loved you.
The rest of the session was amazing, the party worked together to solve the mystery and take out a whole gang of Gnolls that were terrorizing the local village. Adrian had so much fun that his ribs hurt from laughing along with his friends too much. He was so proud of them all getting into character, reading their sheets and trying to figure out the dice mechanics that he had to make sure the BBEG was defeated, handing the landing blow to his BFF Chris who delivered a vicious mockery so vicious, Mrs Chase had her ears plugged by Adebayo.
“That was awesome man thank you!” Chris declared, the goofiest of smiles plastered on his square head. “Let's do this again sometime.”
“Really?” Adrian was flabbergasted, staring around the table when everyone else agreed.
“You guys want to hang out and play DND again?” He thought this would only be a one time deal, that they were all contractually obligated by you to show up somehow.
But instead the Checkmate crew all said they were looking forward to it and bid him farewell. He didn't even notice when anyone left, dumbfounded and glued in his chair, staring down at the minis, maps and copious notes of preparation he had put into the evening.
Not even when Langston and Loretta left together did he make a single sound of protest. You waved in front of his face a couple times, “Adrian you okay? That was such a fun session, you’re a wonderful DM!”
“Y-yeah.” Adrian said slowly, tearing up. It had all suddenly hit him at once. These were truly his friends, genuine bonafide friends, who wanted to be here playing a game with him tonight.
His mother didn’t even need to beg them to come back for another session like his last campaign.
Suddenly a rush of every excluded sleepover, empty birthday party, always without a lab partner, dancing alone on prom night, all of those sad childhood memories, flooded back to him.
“What's wrong?” You asked, noticing his forlorn expression, bottom lip trembling. “Did we not play the game properly or you’re worried about how you ran something? I think that combat went super well.”
“You didn't have to bribe them right? The gang just showed up?” Adrian double checked, lovely green eyes peering up at you at last.
“No I didn't Adrian, they all wanted to be here and enjoyed the game.” You reassured him gently and Adrian burst into tears.
“Oh my sweet man, come here.” You held his crying face close at your chain mail laced bosom, letting him sob for as long as he needed. When Adrian was done, blowing into a tissue and went to clean up the table of his DND stuff, but you stopped him, cracking the whip nearby.
Adrian’s eyes widened and then his cheeks flushed bright pink, rising to his ears when he saw the lust-filled gaze on your face. “Let’s do that tomorrow handsome, you’re mine now. Time to go to bed and prove yourself a true believer of the Maiden of Pain.” You cooed, gripping his wrist tighter and pulling him up the stairs, slack jawed and dazed by the swing of your hips in that tight paingiver priestess garb.
Slamming his bedroom door shut behind you both, you motioned for him to strip, holding the cat of nine tails and stroking it suggestively.
“Are you an ardent apostle for your lady of torture?" You demanded, cracking the leather right by his thighs. Adrian inhaled sharply, everything on his face spelling out just how ardent he was for you in this very moment, most notably formed in a nice tent at his jeans.
“I’m always an ardent apostle for you my precious poison…” Adrian sighed, instantly dropping to his rightful place, on his hands and knees before your glory.
It took him no time at all to shuck off his clothes, hesitating at his teal boxers for a moment, as if contemplating something. His eyes drifted to the bedside table drawer and flickered back to you a few times, making you grow slightly suspicious and excited.
“Oh? Something fun in there?” You guessed, grinning when he nodded.
“I have something for you.” Adrian whispered, sounding incredibly nervous as he went over still on his hands and knees for you of course and opened the drawer.
“I’ll say.” You giggled, taking a step forward and harshly pressing the point of your stiletto heel into the small of his back, earning you a lovely groan. Raising the whip high you eyed the plump booty shaking but stopped when he suddenly swiveled around.
But when he turned, it wasn’t something kinky like what you were expecting. Instead in his palm was a velvet teal ring box, snapping it open to reveal a white gold ring, topped with a large spider-shaped star sapphire, its fangs dripping in emerald green poison, sitting on a web of tiny shimmering diamonds.
“Wha-” You couldn’t even finish your sentence.
“Will you marry me?” Adrian asked, knelt in his boxers, with you standing over him caught unawares, only a second prior fully about to whip his ass.
This truly was the perfect moment to propose for you two.
It made complete sense, and your heart was so full on how on the same page you both were.
“Oh Adrian…” This time it was your turn to tear up, dropping the whip to the floor. “YES! A HUNDRED THOUSAND MILLION TIMES YES!” You squealed, jumping up and down excitedly, chains jingling and plump curves jiggling gorgeously, Adrian was truly the luckiest man alive.
“I mean I already forged the documents with the courthouse and census, but an actual wedding to be officially announced Mrs Adrian Allen Chase? I can’t wait! Oh I’m so excited!” Screaming in pure delight, you dragged his face up to smooch it a hundred times over until it was sufficiently marked in blood-red lipstick stains showing exactly who he belonged to.
“Me too!” Adrian couldn’t even focus on what you were saying, the joy of your answer to his question being yes was still ringing in his ears.
Slipping the ring on your finger, it was dazzling and perfect, he’d listened to what sort of stones you loved, the little eyes on closer inspection were amethysts and Adrian showed you the engraving.
Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.
“Your high school yearbook quote! I felt like it was fitting, but I mean if you want it changed…” Adrian grew a little nervous when you kept staring at the words, thumbing them over in a trance.
“I never thought I’d meet someone who understood me, let alone so well.” You teared up, the odd sensation stunning you and probably ruining your mascara. Yet Adrian kissed the tears all away, and looked at you like you were still just as beautiful, if not even more.
“I feel the same way.” Adrian flashed you a princely toothy grin.
“I also have a ring for you.” You remembered suddenly, getting it off your costume. Unclasping the silver ring, it was pronged and crafted after the whip you’d made.
“Oh it’s a little big, I might need to get it resized.” Adrian said cluelessly, holding it at his ring finger.
You giggled at your naive fiancee and leant into his ear whispering, “It’s not for your finger.”
That explanation left his face cherry red, lips parted, eyes glazing over when Adrian fully understood its purpose, realisation stumbling in a whine that he poorly hid with a cough.
“I love you.” He kissed you, stealing the laugh that left your lips, roughly replacing it with his tongue.
“And I love you.” You returned the favor, biting down his neck in a series of loving, bruising nips.
The night was spent in another series of dice rolls, role playing, dungeon delving, critical hits, misses, and resulted in a nice natural 20 with advantage for both of you. The next morning getting up any earlier than past midday was however, a natural 1 with disadvantage.
It was your final year of middle school. October had ticked over to the 31st and it was trick or treat time again in Evergreen and you had made your costume all ready to go trick or treating.
This was probably going to be your last year and opportunity to go trick or treating as you were getting older, about to enter high school. Besides you basically had to hide all this kind of stuff from your parents who hated anything fun.
They had forbidden you from trick or treating this year or celebrating any other holiday including your own birthday and in order to make your costume you had to sneak it in the late hours of the night and early morning to avoid detection.
You didn't really mind if you missed out on Halloween but Adrian had invited you to go together and he was so looking forward to it. He wouldn't talk about anything else at school lately on the walk back home and excitedly pointed out all of the decorations to you that were popping up in the neighborhood.
Adrian kept saying how extra spooky this year would be, and how he had apparently heard about from mysterious sources that you should both definitely hold hands while trick or treating just to be safe from any strangers or ghosts. Besides you might get lost!
When you tried to ask your father about going he broke the television set so you guessed it wasn't allowed. But disappointing Adrian would feel way worse than whatever your stupid parents dished out.
Your arm was still broken from the last holiday you'd celebrated without your father's permission, Valentine's Day, when you gave Adrian a card so you incorporated it into your costume making a brief case out of cardboard you spray painted silver to go around the cast.
You swung it around as your candy bucket, but probably wouldn't take many sweets home anyway so there wasn't evidence of your sneaking out. It felt secure enough and was light not affecting the cast which was annoyingly bright blue and not red.
It was blank outside of Adrian who had signed your cast with a drawing of a cute cat saying hope you'll be feline better in no time! 😻
Whenever you looked down at it you found yourself smiling and you really didn't want the doctor to cut through the cast when it was time to be removed. Which was coming up soon. Turns out your elbow shattered as well and you needed screws drilled in so it had taken quite a few months for it to properly heal.
Looking over by the nightstand you saw your crutch and recalled how Adrian had been sent to detention recently for biting a boy who tried to steal it off from you on the way to homeroom.
While you still needed the crutch for some balance with the funny position your arm was locked into, it didn't really suit the outfit for Halloween when you looked at yourself in the mirror and you decided that you could just limp around a bit tonight.
The character you'd chosen was Carmen Sandiego because that was your favorite game at the moment so you were all dressed in red with the trenchcoat and hat. You thought it looked pretty good and going down stairs you tried to sneak out but with the added limp the stairs creaked horrendously.
"Hey!" Your mother yelled groggily from the living room and you heard the familiar roll of a wine bottle.
Before your mother could yell at you about what the hell you thought you were doing or where the fuck you were going, you bolted outside and ran towards the Chase residence. Thankfully she was too drunk to make any sort of pursuit.
Knocking on the door, you enjoyed looking at the gaudy cute Halloween decorations that were littered around the lawn and the cute ghost fairy lights on the porch. A sweet hand made sign by Adrian listed that TPing their house was actually illegal.
Every year the sign and house was relentlessly TP'd anyway along with yours from the bullies that gave you both a tough time but Adrian never gave up and outlined why it was wrong.
Answering the door Mrs. Chase stood there dressed as a witch while Adrian was dressed up as Where's Waldo. He had a white and red striped beanie tucked over his headgear and wore a long sleeved striped shirt with high belted jeans. The costume perfectly suited him and his large wire framed glasses.
"Killer costume! Where in the world did you come from?" Adrian said with a cheeky grin.
"Thanks Adrian, I really like your costume too...um I found you!" You replied shyly.
"Oh lovely costume dear!" Mrs. Chase said brightly when she saw you. "Are you little red riding hood?" She asked sweetly.
"No mom, she's Carmen Sandiego!" Adrian said with a huff. "And I'm Where's Waldo, our costumes match!" He announced proudly.
"Wow they do, but I never told you what my costume was going to be? That's a cool coincidence!" You said brightly and watched Adrian's face immediately flush a bright pink, green eyes daring away.
"Uh...sure is, yeah a crazy coincidence!" Adrian tried to save face but his mother was onto him and twisted his ear.
"Did you climb that fence again Adrian Allen Chase?" Mrs. Chase demanded.
"N-no!" Adrian lied, not making eye contact with either of you and finding the ceiling very interesting all of a sudden.
"Honestly..." Mrs. Chase sighed. "Okay let's go, I'll chaperone you two!" She clapped her hands together giddily and Adrian's face fell.
"What? No mom, please I don't need you to chaperone us! We are old enough to go out on our own!" Adrian argued with a big whine.
"I don't think so young man!" Mrs. Chase rebuffed him with a stern frown.
"I'll take them mom." Gut offered, he was dressed as a zombie, the grungy makeup and gratuitous fake blood, stitched and green face paint was really well done and he'd torn his already distressed clothes up even further.
"Hm, alright just don't lose sight of them!" Mrs. Chase relented. "I'll stay here for the trick and treaters then, have fun dears!" She waved you all off with a fond smile and dumped a bunch of candy into your briefcase candy bucket.
When you were out of earshot and view from Mrs. Chase a couple blocks down, Adrian turned to Gut.
"Thanks for covering for us bro. You can leave now though! See you later, okay let's head to the haunted house!" Adrian gripped your hand tightly and tried to walk away from Gut but was grabbed back by the scruff of his neck.
"Nope. Not leaving you guys alone. No monster mash for you two! You've got to hang with me and Chris tonight." Gut chuckled as Adrian tried to wrestle out of his grasp futilely.
"And what's all this about a haunted house?" Gut asked Adrian who grinned.
"There is a big haunted house set up at the end of the street near the park, it's supposed to be really scary and have actual ghosts in there!" Adrian announced to the group trying to sound mysterious but his voice cracked at the mention of ghosts.
The grip on your hand also trembled slightly from Adrian who tried to keep brave. But you knew that the one thing that seemed to frighten him was the paranormal.
Nothing else seemed to phase him even if it was gory or gross but he would close his eyes tightly at the ghost scenes of Scooby Doo and only reopened them back up again once Velma had definitely solved the mystery.
"Don't you hate ghosts? You cried watching Casper..." Gut began and Adrian glared up at him.
"No I didn't!" Adrian snapped.
"And you left your light on in your room all night for a month after Ghost busters..." Gut continued to tease him with a malicious glee.
"That's not true...it's really not!" Adrian turned to you panicked. "I'm not scared of ghosts at all!"
Then a figure entered your periphery, Chris had snuck up and put a finger to his lips for you to be quiet.
"Boo!" Chris said behind Adrian who jolted and let out a high pitched scream.
"AHH! NO PLEASE DON'T HURT ME GHOST I'LL DO ANYTHING!" Adrian begged for his life, beginning to cower against you.
"Haha! Dude it's me...heya geek squad!" Chris greeted you both, dressed as a vampire.
His hair was slicked right back and he had a black cape on with dress pants and white collared shirt. Fake blood dripped down his dollar store fangs.
"Uh...I mean, that wasn't scary. I was only joking I knew it was him." Adrian coughed trying to cover up his shaky voice and looked at you sadly.
His sweaty hand nearly left your grasp but you squeezed it and his eyes widened keeping hold of it.
"I know." You played along with a big smile at him. "We shouldn't stop holding hands in case of strangers right?"
"Right! No weirdos will get to you through me, don't worry!" Adrian promised.
"What's cracking Dracula?" Gut said high fiving him.
"Knew you didn't have a brain Prince Charming haha!" Chris scoffed at Gut's zombie costume.
"Don't fucking call me that dude!" Gut snapped back at him, green eyes narrowing.
"Nice costumes by the way! Are you Inspector Gadget and the Hamburglar?" Chris asked you both.
"No I'm Carmen Sandiego..." You said shyly.
"And I'm Where's Waldo!" Adrian said proudly.
"Oh right...those guys! Well they both wear disguises so good job." Chris said with a grin. "Can we join you to go check out that haunted house?"
"Okay I guess we can let you guys tag along then..." Adrian said reluctantly, looking to you.
"Sure, it'll fun!" You replied cheerfully.
"Y-yeah...fun..." Adrian said, going white as a sheet.
"Let's head to that haunted house then shall we?" Gut offered with a snide look at his scaredy cat little brother.
"Hell yeah dude!" Chris agreed. "What about candy though?" He asked, his bucket already filled to the brim with it.
"You are such a dork!" Gut laughed.
"I don't really want much." You said.
"Me either, it all just gets stuck in my braces." Adrian agreed.
After going to a couple houses along the way, as you walked along you could see that Gut and Chris were whispering together in secrecy about something.
For whatever reason they also kept staring back at you and your broken arm making you a bit self conscious.
The two of them looked uncharacteristically serious about whatever they were talking about, their trademark happy go lucky and petulant expressions were wiped from Chris' and Gut's faces entirely.
Maybe the cast looked a bit silly with your costume after all...but you couldn't help it!
"I'm excited to see the haunted house." You said with a bright smile to Adrian who was fidgeting with his striped shirt the whole way there.
The haunted house was a big manor of a rich family in Evergreen and it was completely decked out with spider webs, skeletons, tombstones, coffins and witches cauldrons.
When you all arrived on the lawn, Adrian stopped and turned to you nervously.
"O-okay...but um only if y-you don't think that you'll get too scared right? It's okay if you don't want to go inside or anything..." Adrian checked with you anxiously, his hand was trembling in yours.
"I'll be all good." You said with a certainty that made Adrian looked up at you confused.
"H-how do you know that?" He asked, befuddled.
"Because you'll be by my side Adrian, and you're the bravest boy I know." You replied as you walked up the stairs to the front doors, tugging him along. Adrian paused, pulling your hand back.
"R-really? You think that?" Adrian said, pushing his glasses up his nose a bewildered expression on his now cherry tomato face.
"I know that! You always protect me from the bullies at school even when those boys gang up on us." You gave him a brilliant smile that he returned with one full of braces.
"S-so do you, when the girls pick on me and call me names that is...you always yell at them to stop for me..." Adrian gripped your hand tighter, not able to keep eye contact as he wobbled up the last remaining stairs.
"Come on dudes, it's this way!" Chris told you both to hurry up, ushering you into the front doors.
"Don't wet your pants!" Gut teased Adrian who was about to yell at him but stopped caring when you yelped, getting scared at the doors suddenly closing with a slam and gripped his arm.
"Are you okay?" Adrian asked you quietly.
"U-um...yeah." You lied. The door slamming reminded you of home and what was going to happen when your parents got a hold of you for trick or treating without their permission.
There was a set of red curtains and a sign that read it was completely pitch dark inside and to be careful. When you two walked through it was pitch black darkness and your eyes couldn't really adjust, putting off your already shaky balance.
"Hey Adrian, sorry but can you hold me? It's a bit hard to walk still with my arm and I didn't want to bring the crutch because it ruined my costume. But I don't want to trip in the dark." You were struggling a bit to be honest and Adrian quickly helped you his entire being stammering in reply.
"S-sure...o-of course I uh can h-hold you..." Adrian gulped heavily and you heard Chris and Gut snickering ahead as they continued to enter the darkness behind the red curtains.
Huddling together you and Adrian tried to follow close behind Chris and Gut through the gauntlet.
First a silly Spirit Halloween glow in the dark skeleton jumped out and Adrian nearly socked it in the face with a scream but still kept you upright.
There was a spooky soundtrack playing with ambience from the Goosebumps tv show that Adrian whimpered at whenever it creaked or a boo and howl emitted.
The fog machine vapors basically made him hyperventilate in fear at the ghost residue but he never once let go of his grip on you and led you through the house.
When a plastic bag on a string constituting the ghost sprang out on a fishing line, Adrian stepped in front of you, his whole body shaking.
"I ain't afraid of no ghost!" He screamed, tearing up, you could hear him sniffing in the dark.
"Run, go save yourself! I'll hold it back!" Adrian told you with a strangled cry like you were in a Friday the 13th slasher movie about to get caught by Jason Voorhees.
"Adrian, I won't abandon you!" You insisted, taking his arm again and helping him walk past the plastic bag, kicking it away.
"Holy shit! You just Karate Kid kicked that ghost like it was nothing!" Adrian said in complete awe.
"Yep that's me, I crane kick ghosts anytime of the week!" You replied with a giggle.
"You're so cool, sorry I'm such a lame dork...getting scared at all of this silly stuff." Adrian said glumly.
"You must be embarrassed to even be seen with me, the boy is meant to be the brave one..." He sighed heavily and trudged along.
"You are brave you were going to sacrifice yourself for me! That's really cool." You attempted to cheer him up but Adrian wasn't listening.
"But I'm just a big coward..." Adrian whispered to himself.
"No you aren't!" You told him but he kept silent clearly dejected.
You then both entered a room with a faint eery green light and a table with different silver serving dishes and platters inside.
"Woah this must be the candy room!" You said excitedly and went to pull a lid off.
Inside was what looked like a human brain and guts and you leapt back and screamed.
"Cool!" Adrian said enjoying how realistic it appeared.
Then he noticed you shaking like a leaf beside him and wrapped his arm around your shoulder.
"Hey it's okay, it's not really brains and guts. It's just jello and baked beans and stuff." Adrian explained and you felt silly for getting so scared.
"Sorry that I screamed like that..." You said with a blush at how loud you'd been.
"No it's okay, I'll protect you from this room. It's only fair right?" Adrian grinned back at you and began to pull the other lids off.
Revealing a severed hand that made you tremble, pulled teeth that you turned away from, and a plate of human hearts and a bowl of eye balls that were moist that all seemed way too real as they stared back at you.
But Adrian went to each one and took a big bite, telling you how it was made with a mouth full of food making you giggle.
"Grapes with food dye and fondant...red velvet for the hearts..." He munched along. "Intestines are sausages with spaghetti maggots..."
By the end of it you weren't the slightest bit scared anymore and neither was he and leaving the haunted house you found a rather pale faced Gut and Chris.
"Hey what did you think? Kinda scary huh?" Adrian said brightly to them.
"Uh yeah...that stuff looked so real in the last room like actual body parts dude I can't believe you ate it..." Gut looked like he was going to be sick.
"Yeah, seriously Jeffrey Dahmer, what the hell?" Chris agreed, looking just as grossed out.
"But it was all fake and made of food anyways, why not eat it?" Adrian shrugged like it was obvious.
Then the owners came out looking pissed. "Did you seriously eat our display young man? That took us ages! Where are your parents?" They yelled at you all, Gut and Chris looking at one another before turning to you and Adrian.
"Woops...let's bail gang!" Gut decided dashing out with Chris. Adrian helped you down the stairs with your arm to bolt away.
In their wrapped up mummy costumes, the owners couldn't really chase you guys much anyway and just shook their fists in indignation at your direction instead.
Making your escape back to the Chase residence you both giggled inbetween heavy breaths for air.
"That was so much fun!" You and Adrian said exhilarated.
"Yeah sure was! Thanks guys we're gonna head to a party now. Happy Halloween you two." Chris said goodbye.
"Can we go?" Adrian asked even though he knew what the answer was going to be.
"When you're older...maybe!" Gut said with a shit eating grin, waving you off condescendingly. Gut and Chris grinned, sauntering down the road together.
You noticed that they had masks from the movie Scream ready to put on for whatever highschool party they were going to.
"Darn it." Adrian said to you with a frown, walking you back to your house down the street.
"Maybe next year." You replied with a giggle.
"Thanks for a great spooky Halloween Adrian." You said shyly giving him a hug with your good arm once you were outside your house.
"T-thanks for a great s-spooky Halloween too!" Adrian chirped out, gently patting your back.
"I'll see you around Waldo, don't go hiding too well!" You said playfully to him with a wave as you walked up the steps of your porch.
"Same to you Ms. Sandiego! I'd go all around the world to find you!" Adrian returned your wave and upped you with a big formal bow, nearly losing his beanie in the process.
"Night Adrian. Thanks for protecting me from all the ghost and ghouls tonight!" You said fondly, hand shaking as it gripped the front door handle.
Soon enough you'd be yelled at by your mother and maybe even get your other arm broken for defying your father.
"Anytime! I'll always protect you from anything no matter what." Adrian proclaimed with a big puppy dog grin, walking back to his house tail wagging.
"I wish that was true..." You whispered, turning the handle to the true house of horrors that awaited you within.
adrian meets you for the first time, he’s crushing immediately but you’re a little iffy.
warnings: insecure reader, slightly mean reader, reader doesn’t really trust men, adrian’s a bit insecure and nervous too, drinking (takes place in a bar), back and forth between you and adrian’s povs
authors note: please do not interact with my stuff if you’re under 21! you will be blocked!
adrian and chris had been at the bar for at least an hour. it was their regular bar they always met up at after work, usually with the other 11th street kids. but, even with all the hours spent drinking here, adrian had never seen you here before. trust he’d remember that face.
you honestly didn’t look like you belonged there, too pretty, too sweet looking. this dark, dingy bar didn’t deserve to have you in it. he noticed you the second you had walked in. about a half hour ago with your friend, a look on your face that read you’d rather be anywhere else, maybe it was your friends idea to come here, maybe that’s why he’s never seen you. you nursed one drink and chatted causally to your friend sitting across the table from you. adrian, ever observant, didn’t take long to notice a few cute little habits of yours (twirling the same piece of hair, messing with the lemon on the side on your drink, crossing your legs and kicking your foot almost nervously)
“dude, you’ve been staring at that chick for like 20 minutes, it’s getting creepy. when are you gonna go talk to her?” chris’ words snap him out of his daydream.
“what? i have not been staring at her!” adrian tries to defend himself.
“hey man it’s ok! she’s kinda cute. go buy her a drink!”
“first of all she’s way more than “kinda cute”, second of all—“ adrian’s eyes suddenly snap over to chris, who now has a huge grin on his face.
“i knew you were staring at her!” chris laughs, slapping adrian on the back,
“look, i’ve never seen you actually have the hots for a girl before, you need to go talk to her!”
“ew, i dont “have the hots” for her,” adrian grimaces.
“all im saying is if you don’t go talk to her soon….” chris sighs, adrian’s eyebrows pushing together.
“…i’m going to,” he rests a hand on adrian’s shoulder.
adrians eyes go wide.
“please don’t.”
“i’m gonna have to,” chris shrugs.
“no! fine. ugh! i’ll go,” adrian slowly and nervously gets off the shaky bar stool he was sitting on next to chris, reluctantly making his way in your direction.
you saw him across the bar, of course you did. he’s been staring at your friend basically the entire time you guys have been in here. you’re used to guys staring at her, she’s gorgeous.
it’s only a matter of time before he saunters over and cringingly asks to buy her a drink, it happens everywhere you guys go.
you never get hit on and honestly, you don’t really mind. the guys that usually hit on your friend are….unique looking… to put it nicely. and of…. below average intelligence with little to no emotional maturity or respect for women. again, to put it nicely.
you much prefer to be left alone, your distaste for men growing everyday anyway (especially the losers in these bars). it makes you feel bad for your friend even though she doesn’t seem to mind much. ordinarily giving the guy the time of day, for reasons unknown to you.
aaaand here he comes, right on cue!
he’s nervously wringing his hands and adjusting his big silver glasses again and again as he approaches. you stare into your drink, awkwardly stirring the straw as you wait for the usual dorky pick up lines.
“hi, uh, i’m adrian. and i just um…was just wondering if you would be ok with me buying you a drink?” he clears his throat as a beat of silence follows.
god, this guy sounds like he’s never talked to a girl in his life.
the silence drags on and finally, you look over at your friend to see why she isn’t answering him to find her staring at you. with furrowed brows you look up at the man to find him staring at you as well.
you look side to side with just your eyes.
“were you talking to me?” you ask with a monotone voice.
“well yeah,” he gives a small nervous smile and pushes up his glasses again.
you laugh dryly at his response and he presses his hands together again, his shoulders starting to slump, looking like a kicked puppy.
“sorry, this was dumb. i’ll just go.” he mumbles.
“no wait, you’re seriously asking to buy me a drink?” you raise an eyebrow.
“yeah?” his voice shakes a bit.
“why?” you cross your arms.
“why?” he repeats.
“yeah, why?” you stare at him, eyeing him up and down.
“cause…well cause, i think you’re pretty and my friend said that this is what you do when you think a girl in a bar is pretty,” he gestures behind him at his muscular friend who tips his beer bottle towards you with a smile, taking a sip.
you laugh at him again and look him over some more.
he’s actually sorta cute, in a dorky way. he looks like he’d have a comic book collection and unfortunately you’re into that.
“i guess so?” you’re still unsure but you look over at your friend who’s smiling brightly and giving you double thumbs up.
his eyes go wide and his smile stretches across his entire face, “really? sick!” he clears his throat again, “uh, i mean, what would you like? to drink, i mean,” leaning on your table. he’s really trying to be “cool” but it’s not working at all.
you give him your drink order and he shoots finger guns as he turns to make his way to the bar. hitting himself in the forehead with his palm and shaking his head on his way over there.
your friend immediately grabs your hand.
“oh my god! he’s a cutie! and so nerdy! just your type!” she giggles.
you let out a small laugh,
“he’s probably just talking to me cause he was too nervous to talk to you first. 20 bucks says he’ll ask me for your number.”
“what? why would he do that?”
“you think guys don’t ask me for your number?”
her smile falters, “but he seems into you! and he was so nervous, it was so cute!”
“girl, guys are never into me. they don’t ask me out and they definitely don’t ask to buy me a drink,” you tilt your head at her.
“well maybe because you’ve never met this guy! maybe the universe was waiting!” she grips your hand tighter.
“ok that’s a little dramatic for a guy i just met at a bar,” you roll your eyes at her.
“omg he’s coming back! and i “conveniently” have to go to the bathroom,” she winks at you and shoots up out of her chair to leave you alone. your hand extends towards her and you open your mouth as if you’re going to yell at her not to leave you when the man sets your drinks down.
“i’m back!” he smiles brightly at you.
“i see that,” you nervously reach for your drink.
“what happened to your friend?”
there it is.
“what happened to your friend” trying to casually bring her up so he can ask if she’s single.
“i’m not giving you her number. if you want her number you should’ve just asked her, buying me a drink is not—“
“i don’t want her number?” he looks at you like you’re crazy.
“you don’t?”
“no, why would i? am i supposed to? cause i really don’t. i didn’t even notice her there until i walked up to your table, really. why would i ask to buy you a drink and then ask for your friends number, that’s crazy!” he laughs, probably louder than appropriate.
“you’d be surprised how many guys think that works.”
you grab at the stem of the cherry in your drink as he looks at you in surprise.
“is that why you were kinda mean when i asked to buy you a drink?” he asks sheepishly.
“oh, was i mean?” you ask condescendingly, pouting slightly.
“yeah you kinda scared me,” he admits while still smiling at you.
“and yet you still bought me a drink.”
“yeah cause like i said, you’re really pretty. i wanted to talk to you. well actually, to be honest, i didn’t wanna talk to you. i didn’t think you’d talk to me, but my friend kinda made me,” he winces.
“first of all you didn’t say i was “really pretty”, you just said pretty. also it’s great that you’re only talking to me cause your friend made you,” you roll your eyes at him.
“no that’s not why!” he waves a hand towards you.
you stare blankly at him.
“ok technically- if you wanna get technical, that is why. but it’s because he really wanted me to talk to you,” he defends himself, his voice getting a bit higher.
“i wouldn’t stop staring at you and he said it was creepy.”
“you were staring at me?”
“yeah, who else?” he laughs again like you’re crazy for thinking any different.
“it probably was creepy.” you deadpan but then give him a slight smile so he knows you’re joking.
“i wasn’t trying to be!” he whines, throwing his hands up.
you let out a small laugh and then pause for a moment,
“what was your name again?”
“adrian!”
“ok, adrian. what about me is so pretty to you?”
“you want me to tell you what i think is pretty about you?”
you nod, knowing he’s not going to have anything to say and you can prove that he really wants your friend.
“ok…well,” he begins, voice slightly shaky,
“the first thing i noticed was your eyes. they’re so big and pretty, i couldn’t stop looking. i like your outfit too, i don’t wanna sound like a perv but it looks really good on you. also your hair, it looks so soft and shiny. and your um, your lips, they look soft too,” he gets quiet at the end of his sentence but you still heard.
“and you smell good! which i didn’t know obviously until i was near you but still, you smell like a strawberry field!”
suddenly, you can’t look him in the eyes and you can feel your cheeks heating up. good thing you’re wearing blush otherwise he’d be able to see how pink they are right now. you’re not used to people, let alone cute guys, complimenting you.
“oh. well, thank you for the drink,” your voice comes out quieter than you mean it to.
“you haven’t told me your name,” he says after a moment of silence.
“well you haven’t asked, genius,” you cross your arms.
maybe you’re being a bit meaner to him that he deserves but whatever.
“shit sorry! ok, what’s your name?”
you tell him and he repeats it back with a smile.
“did you know penguins mate for life?” he asks suddenly.
“i did know that, actually.” you say, caught slightly off guard by the random animal fact.
“well did you know spiders dance to attract mates?” he leans excitedly towards you a bit.
“so what, are you gonna dance for me?” you laugh and tilt your head at him.
“do you want me to? i can.”
and then he’s out of his seat, next to your table, hands in his belt loops, moving his hips in a circle.
“oh my god stop!” you grab at him, a bit embarrassed, and make him sit back down as you laugh so hard your stomach starts to hurt.
“did it work?” he looks at you with big puppy-like eyes.
“that dance was supposed to attract me?” you’re still laughing so much you can barely get the words out.
“yeah! it’s the best one i’ve got! maybe you need to see it again.”
“please no! it worked, okay! i don’t need to see it again!” you force him to stay in his seat, covering your face a bit with your hand.
“ok i-i’ll stop as long as you don’t cover that…pr-pretty face,” he stutters through that line, trying to flirt but he’s obviously not very good at it, grabbing your hand to move it away from your face.
“ew that was so corny,” you scrunch up your nose.
he smiles wide at you in response. his smile is actually really cute, it’s so big it takes up most of his face and he’s got dimples.
damnit.
“did you know crows can remember faces?” he tells you.
“you sure know a lot of animal facts,” you smile at him because it’s weirdly appealing.
“i know so many! i could probably take a test right now and become like a zoologist or something.”
you giggle because unfortunately his big glasses and nerdy facts are charming you.
suddenly, you feel eyes on you. turning to your left, you see adrian’s strong friend still at the bar but now with three other people, 2 women and 1 super tall man, all staring at you guys.
“do you know them?”
he looks over to where you’re gesturing and sighs.
“yea sorry, those are my best friends and coworkers. we come here a lot but they’ve never seen me talk to a girl before so they’re just being nosey. you can ignore them.”
he waves his hand in their direction as if waving them off but just as he finishes his sentence an absolutely beautiful woman with dark braids starts walking over to you.
“hi! my name is adebayo! i’m really sorry to interrupt cause this is super cute,” she points between the two of you, “but i have to steal adrian.” she gives you a sad look as adrian whines.
“nooooo, seriously? why?”
“look, i wouldn’t if it wasn’t important, okay? we have to go.” she gives him a weird look that he apparently understands and he sighs as he starts to stand up.
“sorry, i actually do have to go. i really liked talking to you though,” he pouts.
“it’s okay, i liked talking to you too,” you stand awkwardly infront of him.
“you did?” he says it like he almost doesn’t believe you but you huff out a small laugh and nod your head yes.
both of you smile at each other for a moment too long before adebayo interrupts.
“but you got her number, right adrian?” she nudges him with her elbow.
“oh shit! i would’ve killed someone if i left here without your number.” he laughs and shakes his head.
weird joke but okay.
he fishes for his phone in the pocket of his jeans that look like a dad from a 90’s sitcom should be wearing. you get your phone out of your purse and you swap, typing your number in as he types his. when you trade back he notices you put a little pink heart emoji next to your name and his stomach does a small flip.
he thanks god for ads reminding him to get your number even though, had he forgot, he 100% would’ve just found you and followed you around a bit to see you again. there was no way he was letting you get away.
“well, we really gotta go! nice to meet you girl, you’re adorable!” adebayo smiles as she drags adrian, who hasn’t taken his eyes off you, away. you give him a small shy wave, wiggling your fingers and he copies you, tripping over his own feet as the woman pushes him away.
he meets back up with the team and they immediately leave the bar, harcourt explaining that she’ll go over the mission on the way there. he steals one more glance at you before he’s shoved out the door and he can’t believe that you were already looking at him, your friend back by your side, a big smile on her face, you two no doubt talking about him.
maybe he should feel too needy about texting you immediately but he can’t stop himself. his fingers hit send before he even has his seatbelt buckled in the back of economos’ van.
adrian 🧜♂️: did you know that if the female spider doesn’t like the male spiders mating dance, she eats him?
why the hell did he save his name with the mer-man emoji? he’s so weird, you think as you smile to yourself.
you: good thing i wasn’t hungry
adrian laughs out loud at your response, making the rest of the team look his direction.
“awwww look who’s texting his girlfriend,” chris teases, tousling adrian’s hair.
“she’s not my girlfriend,” he rolls his eyes and unsuccessfully bites back a smile.
“this is so cute,” ads smiles.
“it’s weird. but anyway you need to focus.” harcourt adds, harshly.
adrian pouts but puts his phone away, already thinking about how when this mission is over he’s going to call you and tell you every manta ray fact he knows.
After Adrian came back two day mission, all he wanted was to be in your bed and play switch. He unlocked the door with his key, throwing the duffle by the hall tree and taking his shoes off.
You were probably still at work he thought, making himself home by getting into your shower and using all your products. Mimicking your usual shower routine on himself, from you shampoo to body scrub. He leaves the shower feeling fresh, not bothering with a towel around his body as he dried his hair with a towel and left the bathroom.
The house was quiet without you, lights off, windows shut. The house was just.. a house. Not a home, not until you come back at least. Stood infront of the dresser, taking out navy and teal plaid pajama bottoms and slipped it on. Not bothering with a boxer, its not like he was a stranger. He got in your bed making sure to coo at the cat.
Rubbing at kitty for a while until the cat rolled off the bed, leaving him alone under the comforter. When he settled he took out his phone, spamming you a few texts. Saying that you should totally leave work early and come home because he wants you in bed and preferably with a kfc bucket. Poor baby needs you back because he is soo alone in your apartment and your cat lowkey hates him because he is too loud.
I got a great prompt for a stalker/obsessed reader x Adrian who has a shrine of him a while ago now (I love all my inbox requests and am drafting them all sorry I'm just a very slow writer 😭) And what about a nurse reader who cared for him in the hospital after Coverdale Ranch? (she was surprised/disappointed that he healed so quickly and escaped🤭)
Vigilante protected reader from a patient who tried to physically assault her and when his secret identity is nearly revealed in the hospital she keeps it hidden (doesn't ID him properly) and starts stalking him. She goes to Fennel Fields all the time just to watch him work, the arcade you name it.
Now at Checkmate they are hiring for a medic and reader leaps at the chance but has to act like a normal person during the interview. Even when Adrian is being adorable right there in the office!!!
