I think The OG Broadway Six's funniest Queen is Catherine of Aragon. This isn't because she was written as such, I think Anne Boleyn, Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard are all written to be funnier and they're absolutely hilarious, don't get me wrong, but Adrianna Hicks's performance pushes her over the edge to me. Her physicality, inflections, and expressions take me tf out every time she says or does anything 😂

The “make your own” rhetoric makes a certain sense at the outset. My issue with it is

At any given moment, legions of Black and nonBlack poc are indeed making their own, they’re writing books, making comics, putting on plays, making short films, they are doing everything that white creatives are doing. To say “make your own” is implying that they are too stupid and lazy to have thought of that.

It’s never coming from a place of encouragement, only dismissal of very real concerns over a lack of representation in creative fields.

Anyway, to wrap it up, yes, please make your own stuff. Write that play, film that short, publish that book, collaborate with other creative folks who want to help bring your vision to life. It may not be a surprise hit that jumpstarts your career, but it can be incredibly rewarding in its own way. And also, never stop demanding more from the institutions with the resources to truly nurture these projects and turn them into surprise hits. There is room for everyone, it’s harmful to pretend otherwise.
